Kudos to the employees dealing with an irate customer yesterday. These folks handled this situation well! Have been at this one several times, as used to be a big fan of this franchise. Am I still? Yes to a degree but more of a good fan now. Their increased prices are understandable, but seems like less meat and vegetables than before. Could I be incorrect? Yes. Excellent cheesesteaks tucked away in L'Enfant Plaza. We showed up a bit too early and so had to wait, but it was definitely worth it. I got the "steak Philly cheesesteak" (what?). Poor naming scheme aside, it was a great meal. The meat was sliced super thin and was very tender. The rest of the sandwich was filled with toppings like lettuce, pickles, and of course, melted cheese. We also tried the cheese fries, which I probably wouldn't get again (they were really cheesy). But the sandwich is totally worth it. They also have several fruit juices that looked quite nice as well. It's a great place to refuel if you're around L'Enfant! read more

When arriving to enter the Spy museum there was a sign saying that there was food and stores very close by to the museum but not in the same building. So I took a walk to find out what is inside. We walked to the food court which was located down some stairs and most of the stores were still closed because of either Covid or that maybe they weren't open on that day. With the few options, I decided to try out Charleys Philly Steaks. I haven't been here in year's but it was my first time at this location. One of the pluses was that it is fast and quick. Ordered a #7 and jalapeño fries. I enjoyed the jalapeno fries the most. It has a little spice to it and the cheese was also pretty nice. Today, (3/3/21 @ 12:30pm) all the steak is on one side of the damn sandwich. Most of the mayonnaise is on one side of the sandwich. The pickles are the ones that people don't even eat. Why are they on my sandwich? Pentagon City and Tysons corner location are awesome. Some people don't learn until their job no longer exist because customers stop coming. My first time here as I am trying near eating joints in the L'Enfant area. During lunch time, the staff are pleasant and get you through the order line and pick-up very quickly (impressive). Large selection of cheese steak sandwiches and they do offer alternative chicken and even a turkey option. Standard fixings on the sandwich but they do ask if you want all or some. My order from order to pickup was fast and I have to say that the meal was very good. Generous portion if meat (I went with the standard philly cheesesteak sandwich). Meh. Came here for a bite to eat with my boyfriend when it was extra cold out, we didn't feel like walking elsewhere, and basically everything else in the court was closed. It was about what we expected, which wasn't much. We chose to split the large Chicken California: a chicken philly with provolone and ranch. The cheese was nice and melty, but the bread wasn't nearly crispy enough, we needed more ranch, and the chicken wasn't super flavorful. The lettuce on top was still unpleasantly damp. We also shared an order of "ultimate fries," their fries covered with ranch, bacon bits, and cheese. If they'd covered it with any cheese other than gas station nacho cheese, it would have been pretty good. As it was...the nacho cheese was a little too funky for my preference. Also, it was really expensive for mall food...I get that we had a large sandwich and fancy fries, but it was 18 bucks. Seems high to me, even for D.C. Oh well, it got the job done. I do prefer the location at Union Station, but this one was also pretty good. The same exact cheesesteak sandwich here was a little pricier than it was at the Union Station location, and it seemed to taste more salty when I had it here, too (just my personal experience and opinion). Other than that, I still thought my cheesesteak sandwich was pretty good! I ordered a proper Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich (not a steak and cheese sandwich, as they tend to call it around here sometimes), the way they usually make them in Philadelphia... which is just bread, steak, provolone cheese, onions, and nothing else! That is it, simple as that! Although some people like to add mushrooms or peppers to their Philly Cheesesteak Sandwiches in Philadelphia, which is also good. Charley's Philly Steaks is a new restaurant that opened in the L'Enfant Plaza a month or so ago. It's apart of the recent renovation of the entire plaza and it really draws a big crowd during lunch time. I ordered the regular size California Chicken Cheese steak, Fries and Strawberry Lemonade combo. The price ended up being $11 and some change. Not a fan of spending that much on my lunch, but I was willing to try it out. The sandwich itself was okay. Pretty flavorful and it actually covered the entire hoagie roll, but it did seem like it was missing something. The fries were pretty lame. No type of flavor whatsoever! The strawberry lemonade was excellent! Pieces of real strawberries are cut up and floating around inside. The staff was very accommodating and didn't mind explaining the menu items to the customers. After you place your order, you wait to the side and when your order comes up the sandwich maker will ask for the toppings you would like on your sandwich. This area can be a bit hectic to wait around for, so make sure you listen for your number to be called because people are huddled up around the glass like cattle. It was an okay experience, but it's not somewhere I would like to eat on a weekly basis. Even if I could, I don't think my wallet will allow me too. read more

Not bad, not excellent, just Charley's. I have eaten at many of these places, which are invariably in food courts in a mall or airport. I ordered a small three cheese and chicken sub (a new special), regular fries and a strawberry lemonade. The sub was good, and it had a reasonable amount of filling for me, although I could see other people saying there is too much bread. However, the lettuce tasted OLD to the point that I just took it all off the sub. The fries are Charley's standard fries--quite bland, honestly. They were fresh, though. I do have to give them props for the strawberry lemonade, which was made well and actually had real strawberry bits in it. In terms of service, the guy who took my order and made my sandwich was pretty friendly. This was a slow day (Saturday), so I didn't have to fight the usual throng of people at L'Enfant Plaza. All in all, not bad. Charley's won't be my first stop of I'm looking for lunch at L'Enfant, but it's not my last choice, either. read more

They offer a combo meal that includes fries and a drink. The lemonades are delicious. I got the peach lemonade and they actually grind peach into the drink (watch out for chunks of fruit coming up the straw)! I ate here once for dinner and once for lunch. I went into the Food Court at Union Station during lunch hour today. The plan was to go to the Subway at the far end for a sandwich, drink, Doritos, and maybe a chocolate chip cookie. But then I chanced upon Charley's Philly Steaks. WHAT A SURPRISE!!! I gave the overhead menu a look-see and thought: Why not? (Hasta la vista, Subway.) The gentleman who took my order for a cheesecake, fries, and regular sized Strawberry Lemonade was very courteous. I didn't have to wait long. Maybe a little more than 5 minutes. I hurried back to the office, where I ate my lunch. The steak sandwich hit the spot. DELICIOUS. The fries were average. Nothing exceptional, but not awful, either. I especially enjoyed the Strawberry Lemonade. YUMMY!!! (I'm very partial to sweet drinks and that Strawberry Lemonade was perfect.) Best customer service ever! They workers there are always friendly and make sure my orders are made to perfection! Unlike other Charley's I've been too this location doesn't take any shortcuts and my food is always great! The young man Aaron is very friendly every time he greets me at the register and isn't ever afraid to give his honest opinion on making suggestions. I'm truly glad this location was able to survive at L'Enfant Plaza because they truly are the best Charley's team in the entire DMV area and I couldn't ask for a better group of individuals who works there! read more

If you've been to any other Charley's, you'll know what to expect. Prices are high for a food court restaurant, especially when you tack on DC's 10% tax, but the food was pretty good. They were moving people through the checkout fairly fast for the lunch rush, but the folks on the grill were getting confused. The customer in front of me was lactose intolerant, and he had to tell them twice to remake his sandwich because they kept putting cheese on it. For my order, they gave me the wrong kind of fries.
