I keep driving by and finally decided to go in about a month ago. It's a cute little shop woth a few tables and a counter where you place your order on a large tablet. I'm trying to cut out the useless carbs so I tried the fried chicken amd slaw. Holy crap, what an excellent meal. I got the hot which I was happy with, but fair warning there are big chunks of jalapeño in the slaw so dont overestimate your ability to do heat. The dressing on the slaw is a bit sweet and that counters a bit of the spice. This is a nice sized meal, a good amount of both slaw and chicken, and if that isn't enough the fries are great. Since that forst time I have been there every couple weeks getting the same thing and havent had a bad experience. The chicken is great and the people I have dealt with have been very nice. My colleagues had been raving about the infamous Honey Butter sandwich at Roaming Rooster, so that had definitely built up the anticipation in my mind. Overall I would say that it tasted good - but my sandwich was much much oiler than the others made in the same order. As it was a chicken spot, I also tried the whole chicken wings; and unfortunately I found them to be massively over seasoned and I could barely finish one. The fries were also not so much to my liking. The majority of them were super short, and seemed more like the "ends" of the fries than a whole one. It could have been that it was an off day, or maybe something with my particular order. I consider myself a chicken sandwich connoisseur. As a fan of the Roaming Rooster food truck from before the pandemic back when I used to work in downtown D.C., I was excited to try this brick and mortar store. As luck would have it, this came to fruition this past weekend after a meeting I had at the neighboring brewery. Me and two colleagues came for lunch and we ordered a LOT of food. They each got the club sandwich while I got the honey butter sandwich and we also ordered some of the hand cut fries and some cole slaw. The fries were incredible -- big Five Guys vibes here as they were fresh, crispy, and had that Boardwalk fry texture. Big bonus was the portion size (we probably would've been fine sharing a single order among 3 people). The cole slaw was refreshing and helped cut through the richness of our individual sandwiches. It's definitely not the heavy, creamy mayo type of cole slaw, so keep that in mind when ordering. On to the sandwiches -- they were massive. Multiple pieces of juicy, plump, crispy, well seasoned chicken stacked high on soft toasted buns. The honey butter sandwich I had was salty, savory, sweet, but definitely required lots of napkins. My friends each enjoyed their club sandwiches and commented on the crispness of the bacon and sauce. Overall, the 3 of us were more than pleased. The shop is very unassuming and has limited seating, so I could see how getting a place to sit during a lunch rush might present an obstacle or two. That said, the place is very casual and gives an upscale fast food vibe similar to what you'd expect from say a Shake Shack or an In-N-Out on the west coast. The person who served us was incredibly nice, but I expected that considering the people who operated the food truck were incredibly kind and accommodating back when I frequented it. I was nervous about lines and didn't know that there was more than one location, I thought I was going to the historic first site but I stumbled on this hidden little gem and I'm almost glad that I did. For starters, there was no line, I walked straight up to the counter. The lady at the register was extremely nice and helped guide me through the spice levels before deciding on what I wanted. I ordered (2) Honey Buttered Chicken Sandwiches(med level) & hand cut French fries. I loved it. Absolutely loved it. The chicken was delicious, and it was just the right portion of honey and butter. She says "may I take your order" in the most non enthusiastic way. I felt they could careless for our business based on the look on both ladies who served us faces and attitudes. Yet, we continued on still excited to try there chicken. My son order the regular Chicken Sandwich that comes with coleslaw in Hot heat as he likes spicy food. I had the 3 whole wings In medium heat. We shared an order of fries. I've never heard of fries fried twice. My son explained the concept to me about how it gives it a nice crisp and I was excited to try it. Food results - my son said the chicken sandwich was not at all spicy and had too much coleslaw in it. It wasn't very flavorful either. He's definitely had much better. My wings were too spicy for my tastebuds. An hint of spice to add or bring out the flavor is all I can handle. I couldn't even finish one of them. I gave them to my son which he commented it's spicer than his sandwich. We think they mixed up the spice levels on our orders. Both of us also felt the wings weren't flavorful especially for being buttermilk along with lacking in the right crisp and texture. I have tried a few items on the menu, my favorites include the chicken wings (4) medium, the coleslaw and the Nashville hot chicken. You can get your chicken at three different levels, mild, medium, and hot. I typically prefer medium, it adds a nice kick. The coleslaw adds a great fresh element to your meal. I typically pair the wings with the coleslaw (cabbage, cilantro, parsley, jalapeno w/ vinaigrette dressing). If you can, I highly suggest ordering online to skip the line in-store. This is the BEST SEASONED chicken sandwich I've ever had - it was salty, sweet, buttery and spicy! If you have a high tolerance to spicy foods - I 100% recommends the extra hot, it was just the kick I've been looking for! The sandwich came with about 3 pieces of chicken, they did not skimp!
