I've never had a bad experience at Roaming Rooster until today. Whoever made my sandwich didn't even bother to take the all of the paper off the cheese slice before putting it on my sandwich...and I didn't notice at first because there was so much lettuce on it that it covered it up.

The food is good, every time. I think they wait until it's ordered to cook it. Needlessly, I would recommend it despite the wait. It travels well, so order it for takeout or delivery because there isn't much of a dining experience. You're likely to be the only one eating there if you so choose.

My colleagues had been raving about the infamous Honey Butter sandwich at Roaming Rooster, so that had definitely built up the anticipation in my mind. Overall I would say that it tasted good - but my sandwich was much much oiler than the others made in the same order. As it was a chicken spot, I also tried the whole chicken wings; and unfortunately I found them to be massively over seasoned and I could barely finish one. The fries were also not so much to my liking. The majority of them were super short, and seemed more like the "ends" of the fries than a whole one. It could have been that it was an off day, or maybe something with my particular order. There was a long queue of people grabbing lunch - so clearly there's something about this place that many many people love! So, don't necessarily take my word for it... You could have a different experience!!

Honey Butter Fried Chicken Sandwich with a side of hand cut fries -- SO GOOD.

I consider myself a chicken sandwich connoisseur. As a fan of the Roaming Rooster food truck from before the pandemic back when I used to work in downtown D.C., I was excited to try this brick and mortar store. As luck would have it, this came to fruition this past weekend after a meeting I had at the neighboring brewery. Me and two colleagues came for lunch and we ordered a LOT of food. They each got the club sandwich while I got the honey butter sandwich and we also ordered some of the hand cut fries and some cole slaw. The fries were incredible -- big Five Guys vibes here as they were fresh, crispy, and had that Boardwalk fry texture. Big bonus was the portion size (we probably would've been fine sharing a single order among 3 people). The cole slaw was refreshing and helped cut through the richness of our individual sandwiches. It's definitely not the heavy, creamy mayo type of cole slaw, so keep that in mind when ordering. On to the sandwiches -- they were massive. Multiple pieces of juicy, plump, crispy, well seasoned chicken stacked high on soft toasted buns. The honey butter sandwich I had was salty, savory, sweet, but definitely required lots of napkins. My friends each enjoyed their club sandwiches and commented on the crispness of the bacon and sauce. Overall, the 3 of us were more than pleased. The shop is very unassuming and has limited seating, so I could see how getting a place to sit during a lunch rush might present an obstacle or two. That said, the place is very casual and gives an upscale fast food vibe similar to what you'd expect from say a Shake Shack or an In-N-Out on the west coast. The person who served us was incredibly nice, but I expected that considering the people who operated the food truck were incredibly kind and accommodating back when I frequented it. So happy the vibes carried on from the food truck to their in person shop! Now I just need to try this fabled breakfast sandwich I've heard about...

I have had Roaming Rooster on my radar for a very long time now, ever since the Popeyes Chicken Sandwich craze days, bc it was the suggestion of a friend. I found myself close to DC today and said what the heck? I was nervous about lines and didn't know that there was more than one location, I thought I was going to the historic first site but I stumbled on this hidden little gem and I'm almost glad that I did. For starters, there was no line, I walked straight up to the counter. The lady at the register was extremely nice and helped guide me through the spice levels before deciding on what I wanted. I ordered (2) Honey Buttered Chicken Sandwiches(med level) & hand cut French fries. I loved it. Absolutely loved it. The chicken was delicious, and it was just the right portion of honey and butter. I think, in the future, I'm going to go with the hot version of this sandwich bc there really wasn't much spice at all with mine but it was delicious nonetheless.

We were super excited to try this place based on the reviews. My son is a foodie and loves chicken sandwiches. I really like Buttermilk fried chicken. Oh so so good. Here's a review of our experience. Customer Service - we were never greeted. Even when I greeted the Spanish looking girl at the register saying "hello, this is our first time here". She says "may I take your order" in the most non enthusiastic way. I felt they could careless for our business based on the look on both ladies who served us faces and attitudes. Yet, we continued on still excited to try there chicken. My son order the regular Chicken Sandwich that comes with coleslaw in Hot heat as he likes spicy food. I had the 3 whole wings In medium heat. We shared an order of fries. I've never heard of fries fried twice. My son explained the concept to me about how it gives it a nice crisp and I was excited to try it. Food results - my son said the chicken sandwich was not at all spicy and had too much coleslaw in it. It wasn't very flavorful either. He's definitely had much better. My wings were too spicy for my tastebuds. An hint of spice to add or bring out the flavor is all I can handle. I couldn't even finish one of them. I gave them to my son which he commented it's spicer than his sandwich. We think they mixed up the spice levels on our orders. Both of us also felt the wings weren't flavorful especially for being buttermilk along with lacking in the right crisp and texture. I really like and have had much much better buttermilk fried chicken. Unfortunately, it was an expensive disappointing experience. Now we know and will look elsewhere. Sorry I cannot recommend this place.

Hands down the best chicken sandwich I've had in a while ! There are 5 sandwiches to choose from, including 1 veggie option (fried oyster mushroom). You get to choose your heat - mild, medium, hot, extra hot. I got The Club with medium heat and an order of fries. The medium still had a nice kick, but it wasn't unbearably spicy. The fries were also really good. I wish they had an option for small fries. Customer service was good. I sat to eat in the restaurant and they had a really good r&b playlist going.

The menu is overwhelming. I was craving Chinese food and this place offered that as well as wings, subs, fish - you name it, they have it. I ordered egg drop soup and honey chicken, and I was not disappointed! I was ready for mediocre Chinese food since that's what I've been used to so it was quite a delight when it tasted delicious. The egg drop soup only comes in one size so that was unfortunate for one person to eat. The honey chicken was on point though. I was worried it would be a bit dry, but it was everything I was craving and more. The price isn't too bad either. There is minimum seating, and you have to spend $10 minimum to be able to pay with a card. Just a heads up. Because I raved about this place, my housemate also decided to finally try it and we were both oh so pleased. We will definitely be back to try the wings and more!

On our way to another location on H Street last Friday, one of my colleagues pointed to H & Chicken (H&C) and said it should be our choice for the following Friday. So, we made our way back to H Street this Friday to check out H&C. Let me get to the point and say we had absolutely no serious regrets about anything we ordered. Although we had to park about two blocks from the location (IYKYK), it was worth it. When we arrived, there was a small line. But, it was moving pretty fast. When we got to the counter, the person taking our orders was very helpful at offering suggestions. If you don't want to go to the counter, there are kiosk where you can place your order. The one negative comment that I have about this location is that people who came in and placed their order(s) long after we did, received their order(s) before us. So, I don't know if there are any specifics into how they manage getting their orders out Outside of that, the food was really good. Each of us ordered just about the same thing which included chicken and fish. Where we differed a little bit was on the sides. Just about everybody ordered the M&C. Some of us ordered, french fries and greens, or potato salad, and greens. When you order the chicken, you automatically get a biscuit. Unfortunately, that is not the case when you order the fish. (OPPORTUNITY FOR IMPROVEMENT) So, some of us had to order a biscuit on the side. Overall, everything we ordered taste really good. However, I will say the noodles in the M&C were slightly overcooked, and there were a bit more stems in the collard greens than I would have preferred. But, the taste for both the M&C and the collard greens was on point. The fish and the chicken (including the mumbo sauce) gets a thumbs up. Everything was seasoned and fried well. It is my understanding H&C is open until 5 AM. So, if you're having a good time at one of the local establishments on H Street and it gets a little too late to go to a traditional fast food location or one of the restaurants on the corridor, I wouldn't hesitate to give H&C a try. The only thing I would be mindful of is there is limited space for dining in. So, you will probably have to order, grab, and go. I do want to note one important thing. If you are going to H&C for the Thursday and Friday chicken wing special, the H St. location does NOT honor that promotion. You will need to go to the Hyattsville location for that. Everybody in our group agreed that we will be returning. Happy eating!

0/10 experience. Easily the worst America's Best Wings I've ever been to…read more I ordered a Philly cheesesteak combo with shrimp, plus 5 wings and fries. The cheesesteak was embarrassingly bad. There was barely any steak at all, which is insane for a sandwich called a steak & cheese. The shrimp upcharge was even worse: tiny, low-quality pieces that added absolutely nothing. The fries were also completely different from the usual America's Best fries and were mostly batter with barely any potato. The wings were noticeably smaller than normal too. Overall, everything about this order screamed cheap ingredients and corner-cutting. Usually when i got to basic takeout spot, I don't expect much. But this was so visibly bad that I actually brought the food back and got my money refunded. Avoid this location.

My go to meal is usually a fish sub with Western fries(potato wedges) with Mumbo Sauce, and a half and half, and I'm usually never disappointed. If I could ding them for anything, I would say, sometimes the food is greasier than I'd like, and the customer service is not always the greatest, not that anyone is rude, because they're not, but you almost sometimes have to fish for a greeting upon entering. I usually go to the America's Best Wings in DC, and they have the Maryland stores beat with the Mumbo Sauce, but again, I'm just being picky. This place is a cool little carryout when you're in the mood for some delicious wings and fries.
