Love this corner market. Their sandwiches are delicious. I had the turkey bacon which is great. The market itself is upscale. Limited, but good looking vegetables and fruits. An old fashioned candy counter. Lots of really interesting products, like gifts, fancy oils, local products, cool sauces etc. the staff is great. The store is clean, bright, modern, yet retro. Yangs stands apart from regular DC corner markets and dishes up something just a little different from all the others. Yang Market is a great and essential store in the Eckington neighborhood of DC. A good selection of wines, beers, and snacks. They also have a coffee shop and deli. I got their club sandwich and it is quite the sandwich! Packed with three different meats towered high. If you don't like any of their sandwiches you can choose to create your own. The owners and service are great. If you are in a pinch for a quick sandwich or some snacks if you are in the Eckington neighborhood this is an essential spot. They also have a great mural on the side of the building. I plan to make many spots back here. read more

I really want to like this place, and support them because they're a woman owned business. But the last few times their customer service has been downright rude. Your local convenience store should just be that, convenient. It should also be friendly. I woke up this morning and came into the store at 1030 am really craving a breakfast sandwich, the lady in for me that there was no eggs and she couldn't make my sandwich because it would take 10 to 15 minutes to make eggs for a sandwich. They advertise that they sell breakfast sandwiches all day. It wasn't, by the way your sandwich is going to be delayed, so sorry for the wait. The owner literally told me we can't make it sandwich because it'll be 10 to 15 minutes. This was after making me wait 5 to 8 minutes when talking to another customer about kombucha, and how she just had her coffee. It takes me 5 minutes to make eggs at home. So I'm wondering how fresh the eggs are, especially if they sell breakfast sandwiches all day. The store is cute and looks like it would be a great place for the neighborhood. But this isn't the first time I or my partner received customer service that made us think that Yang's doesn't want our business. read more

Top notch spot! I heard about this place from some D.C. list about great sandwiches in the district, and this place did not disappoint. I forget what the sandwich I had was called, but let me tell you it was delicious. Everything was super fresh, from the bread to the shredded lettuce to the multiple meats. You could tell a lot of thought and appreciation for the art of food went into the making of the sandwich. The store itself is very clean and well organized. They obviously care about what the people want and ask for because they have some specialty items. They also have a good amount of products from local suppliers in the area, and who doesn't love to support local! Overall, this place is definitely worth a visit. It's lucky for my waistline that I don't live closer, because I would be here everyday if I could. read more

I went for the first time today and got the Positraction. it was great, lots of turkey, fresh veggies, delicious. Can't wait to go back and try some of their other sandwiches. Cool points instantly rewarded for being off the beaten path (aka, in the hood). More cool points given for being located inside a rando convenience store -- people eat that shit up! And some additional cool points sprinkled on for the artistic chalk-board menu and Christmas lights. So Yang Market is cool. A good place to take that person who [annoyingly] thinks they know every hole in the wall in every corner of DC and have seen it all. The food stands alone though, and apart from all the aforementioned highlights, deserves a high star appointment. I will say, I was extremely hesitant. Firstly, subs/sandwiches are not the easiest cuisine for a vegetarian, and most of the time, either there are no choices at all, or the options are really lame. And secondly, when you do fall upon the rare creative and delicious vegetarian sandwich, it's usually with a strong dose of creativity and taking untypical sandwich components to make something as filling and desirable as a mountain of roast beef. Was I going to find this is a convenient store sandwich shop in the Eckington?? Well... not really. There were no vegetarian options on the board, but when we walked in, my bf sweetly asked the one sole worker behind the counter if there were any veggie options or if he could whip something up for me. He happily obliged and said he would create something delicious and meatless for me. And he did! My sandwich had greens, mozzarella, tomato, peppers and pickled vegetables. The pickled veggies really took this sandwich from what would have probably been disappointing (due to the v. standard ingredient mix) to really enjoyable. So I didn't get anything creative or standout, but I found myself doing my happy shoulder-wiggle-yummy-food-dance, so it must have been pretty good. Tasty for sure. So I moved into the neighborhood a few months ago and was looking for near by sandwich shop on the Google and stumbled across this place. That was 2 weeks ago and I have been there 3 times since. I have stuck with the world traveler sandwich each time because I'm a sucker for some fresh mozzarella. Man, it might be the best quality sandwich I've ever had. My roommates and friends have now been converted and we go together. We love checking out the random assortment of stuff while we wait too. They have sodas, beer, wine, chips, snacks (animal crackers and star crunches!?), some household items and groceries, as well as local Julius coffee. One day I'm going to have to try their bagels. I think I'd be a regular even if I didn't live around the corner. This store is one of those hidden gems in DC that you just have to try. 100% quality. read more

The sandwiches here are so good. I honestly think this is the best sandwich place in DC. Tucked in the back of a nondescript bodega, this sandwich shop has the freshest bread, the best ingredients. You could easily drive across town for one of these sandwiches. I got the Mona Lisa. Prosciutto, spiced melon, and mozzarella on a hoagie. Great flavor combination. I really can't wait to go back and try all of them. Spent a little time shopping in the market as well, which has interesting things, mostly produced in DC. Just stopped in after reading an article in the Washingtonian about the new management and the addition of a small deli. I live a block away and I am ecstatic to have a place like this right here in Eckington! A nice convenience store with some groceries, snacks, frozen foods, medicines, beauty essentials etc. However, the highlight was certainly the Deli! Small menu but rich with options! I tried the Mona Lisa (w/prosciutto, melon and arugula) it was GREAT! Very tasty and filling without being too heavy! The owners were very friendly - in general, a great atmosphere and experience! Oh. My. God. You'd never guess that the best sandwich place is in this part of DC, but it totally is. I had the most delicious sandwich today. It was roast beef and cheddar on a super-fresh pretzel roll with a sauce that brought the whole sandwich together. My only regret was that I was full and couldn't immediately order another....wanted to try them all on my first visit. That'll have to be for the next trip. This was by far the best sandwich I've had in DC. This whole neighborhood is such a food desert, and having this sandwich shop is perfect. I could eat here every evening and be perfectly happy. I kept hearing about this place, so I figured I would break my diet and go grab a sub. I also needed to pick up some coffee. I love neighborhood bodegas (and supporting local businesses), and Yang Market definitely has earned a repeat customer from me. Like many other reviewers, I ordered the Mona Lisa, and it was absolutely fantastic. Fresh, sharp arugula, paired with slightly sweet melon and prosciutto, on bread with the perfect crunch on the outside, and chewy, gluten goodness on the inside. I grabbed a bag of chips, a coconut water and a jar of Folger's and headed home. I will say, I was sort of hoping they would have more local products, but I understand that those can get expensive to stock, and it's not like this is Union Market. I went two times. First off, I like the concept. Turn an unremarkable basic DC corner store into something better. (yeah yeah, gentrifier haters go fuck yourselves--there is still plenty of garbage food in DC if you want to poison yourself). The first time, my friend and I got the '64 Skylark. It was very good, traditional, and we each saved half for the next day--so the portions were generous! I liked it so much I went back. I was with my picky 13 yr old nephew, so while we ordered the '64 Skylark again, we held the spicy peppers and tomato--but I was expecting basically the same sandwich. Sadly, I got a shell of what I got the first time. Maybe it was the custom order that confused the sandwich maker. Maybe it was the actual sandwich maker (different person from the first time). But the sandwich was pretty skimpy. Expecting it to be a monster, I ordered just one to split with my nephew and we were both hungry afterwards. I will go back again as I am hoping this second Skylark was an anomaly. read more

The rest of the market is filled with a ton of local, socially-conscious products and the service is always great. ***please note, Yang's came under new owners in the last year who totally re-vamped and cleaned the place up! Used to have old fluorescent lighting, etc, but is totally refurbished now. read more

Can be pricey but the meats/ingredients are super high quality (I've chatted with the owner many times while he makes my food!) and so convenient to have something in the neighborhood instead of walking down to Bloomingdale. Great beer selection, wines are ok, but I think they will take requests if you plan on being a regular. Minimal groceries, but they have a little bit of everything if you are in a pinch. read more

It is really a cool little independent corner store with great sandwiches (two youts, which is roast beef on a pretzel roll, YUMMY), delicious cold brew and importantly, MILK CULT ice cream sandwiches. I was really struck with what a positive experience I had in the few minutes I was there, the owner, Pete introduced himself, he was super friendly and really made me feel like my business was appreciated, a real rarity in this town. read more

This bodega just makes me so happy. I wished they were closer. Let me begin by stating how refreshing it is for people to buy a place and keep the name. The first time i arrived to find the deli and a nice guy at the counter. I asked alot of questions and his suggestions. I came home with 2 giant hoagies. The bread fresh, thinly sliced onions, shredded lettuce, rare roast beef and sweet peppers to make anyone smile. After enjoying the sandwiches so much, i took some friends. The 64 skylark sandwich was superb. The gallo was an Italian sandwich the,way it should be. The oil and oregano were a perfet blend. Aaron and Finis were funny, informative and so happy. They were wonderful. The cannolis were filled to order and not too sweet. They have a wide selection of drinks, chips and candy. I love they have several local items like Compass coffee and Capitol Candy. Keep up the great work!! I will be back again for sure with my friends. We are all hooked. read more

I appreciate that they are located in this isolated neighborhood. They have mostly junk food but also carry Amy's frozen meals which I like. They occasionally have some not great veggies. No coffee or fresh foods. Neighborhood 'entrepreneurs' tend to hang around out front, sometimes with unleashed dogs. read more
