S8. General Tso's Chicken Beef and Broccoli
Pouya G.

Great carry out in the Brightwood park, probably one of the best in the city. I liked them before the change in management and the new management did NOT Disappoint. General Tsao chicken was great, and beef and broccoli was on point. When I look at the previous reviews I see that many people don't like their fried food, but the typical AmericanChinese food was great!

What can you say about this place? Chicken wings with "mumbo sauce" or some fried shrimp with fried rice are at your doorstep faster than I can find my wallet most of the time. I'm writing this after having just placed a phone order and bet the phone will ring from the delivery driver by the time anyone reads the first word of this online. Yums is pretty good for what it is and they're really fast. Along with wings and shrimp, there's also a wide variety of American "Chinese" food. I've never set foot in the place (and won't), so I've never even seen the menu (and can't find one online). Pros: fast, hot, not bad at all Cons: no menu in the bag? Also, they put the sauce on the beautifully fried wings unless you tell them to put it in a cup. If you like your wings soggy and smothered in sauce, don't say anything--that's how you'll get 'em. Oh, and the guy will tell you to hold on at least three times when you phone in an order. Just hold on.

a tray of fried potatoes

Totally gross food that I would not recommend to anyone. I ordered General Tso's chicken which consisted of the grossest, stringiest chicken with a mushy fried exterior. See pictures attached for the sad excuse for a sweet and sour pork that I also received. Didn't even come with sauce or vegetables. Just greasy fried pork and nothing else. Only saving grace was the Crab Rangoons. But not enough for me to give Yum's anything other than a one star.

My group of 5 enjoyed a variety of their drinks and dishes, sharing 3 appetizers, enjoying 5 entrees, and indulging in two of their desserts. I started off with an alcoholic Mai Thai. Food wise, I had their grilled oysters, brussel Cesar, fried chicken curry dish, trifle dessert, and sorbet. As a non-seafood person, it was a big deal for me to try their oysters. I started slow with just their grilled oysters. They were drowning in garlic and butter, so it was hard not to like. The Brussel cesar was also a solid shareable. I appreciated that the salad did not come drenched in dressing. The curry friend chicken was phenomenal! The chicken fell of the bone so easily and was so crispy, moist, and overall outstanding. The curry and impossible rice paired perfectly with it. Finally, the desserts! I could have eaten two of the trifle dessert...it was smooth, creamy, and the perfect amount of sweet. It was everyone's favorite between the two. The sorbet was good, but I found the white chocolate a little weird/awkward since it was sitting around a bunch of cold sorbet...didn't melt or mesh well with the dish. It wasn't bad, but I'd try something else next time. Overall, I loved this place. The vibes, staff, and food were amazing. I can't wait to introduce more friends to this gem.

Ambiance was vibey and cozy. Our server John was awesome. We ordered the crab and shrimp ceviche, a sourdough/goat cheese/ricotta dish, salmon crudo, seafood stew, branzino, oysters and my drink was yummy too! also got butter noodles for the kiddo, the restaurant was child friendly. i believe my cocktail was called a heartache. Beautiful presentation of the food. Oysters and crudo were phenomenal and i truly enjoyed everything i ate! I'll definitely be back when I'm in the DMV.

For starters, we got the New England Clam Chowder and an order of Chickpea Fries. New England Clam Chowder - definitely a chowder and not a soup (heavy cream base) with a nice flavor and a healthy amount of clam bits. Chickpea Fries - A nice portion of well prepared fries. Nice crunch on the outside, but moist on the inside. Well seasoned and not oily. Comes with ketchup and an avocado lime ranch, which was ok. It's a huge portion and we took most of it home to enjoy later. Good use of chickpeas. Branzino - This is a whole fish split in half. Pretty easy to remove the bones oneself. The skin was nice and crunchy with the meat inside moist. Well prepared. I'm not a huge fan of dill and I think the seasoning of dill is a bit overdone here. (I'm pretty sure it's dill. Whatever it is, it's too heavy for me and detracts from the meal.). The wild rice side dish is very good. Lobster Roll - Excellent. My partner ordered this and the only comment was that the large was very big and next time they likely would get the small one. Lots of delicious, cold lobster meat. The fries also were excellent. The service overall was very good. Our food was served at an appropriate rate (apps, then main, which seems not to be important at a lot of restaurants these days) and the water service was excellent. Recommend this restaurant. I probably would not get the Branzino again because of the heavy dill seasoning, but there are other items in the menu that look interesting.

The music was chill and we had the World Cup on the screen so it was very entertaining to have that playing while conversing with friends. Jason was amazing! He was so sweet at the bar and catered to whatever my friends and I requested. He was also very quick to bring out the drinks and food requested. We got a lot of food and I honestly forgot to grab some pictures because we ate them up so quickly! The calamari and the sticky pork ribs stole the show most definitely! The margarita and hot honey pepperoni pizza was also very delicious. The chicken pesto wasn't my favorite to be honest I've just had better pesto in the past. The California roll and the shrimp tempura rolls weren't that good in my opinion it just didn't have that authentic taste. The espresso martini was great! The passion fruit margarita was on the sweeter side but it was still nice and then the dragonfruit lemonade was great! Overall I would definitely come back for another happy hour or just for dinner in general!

My grilled chicken was moist, flavorful, and cooked very well. The fried catfish was not too salty and had great balance where you can taste the fish. The mac and cheese, cabbage, and green beans were all of nice quality, the weakest link is the potato salad, however that is a dish that can be complicated for different restaurants to get the hang of, fortunately I can prepare some awesome potato salad myself. The peach half and half drinks were balanced perfectly well not too sugary and sweet. I swear some of these places make drinks way too sweet and you want to check your insulin levels. The server was highly attentive and a great conversationalist and paid attention to our wants and needs and had superb professionalism and a strong work ethic. He was hospitable and accommodating. The staff was friendly and approachable. We had fun and enjoyed this more than Milk and Honey and even Carolina Kitchen. DC keeps gentrifying and losing its soul, but there are still some hidden gems around. This spot blends in with the Walmart, and funnily enough I have driven past here a gazillion of times and assumed it was some bakery or another spot and did not know it was a soul food joint, something DC has been minimizing and pushing out to Maryland like the city always does. I think it is masterful that they use clear plastic containers for their food making it easier for the staff as that can be expensive and time consuming with the dish washing/prep, sound economical move. It is nice that the business (U Street etc. location) has been in the DMV for over 20 years and expanded to Baltimore in Fells Point. I think Baltimore will like this spot! This felt authentic and soulful in a way that I had not experienced in the city in quite some time, as the city has had a lot of restaurants be sterile, bland, flavorless, and catered to certain demographics while completely ignoring others. I liked the soundtrack with R&B and was able to hear some TLC on the soundtrack which was very nostalgic and a throwback to DC before the gentrification when it was truly Chocolate City! Overall, it is a spot that you can visit more than once certainly not a one and done like a lot of restaurants that lack service, food, and ambiance/vibe.

At that time, I was upset about what happened with George Floyd a week earlier; still in 2026, it was wrong what happened to Floyd (not to mention more recent news that happened in that city was horrible too). I hung out with a friend on that warm day having a beer outside his apartment in Takoma Park. He is a mega-leftist politically (I'm more independent), but said he wanted to support a black-owned business; I said that's a good idea; I might do that for dinner. He was doing his own thing for dinner, so I was on my own. So, I looked up on Yelp what was in the area, and I saw just across the border in DC, Oohh's & Aahh's. Staff was nice, and I got a fried chicken platter. As this was Covid times, there was no dine-in. So, I schlepped all the way straight up Georgia Ave 6 miles back to my home in Wheaton fairly quickly on that Sunday as I don't like my food getting cold. I think my food stayed pretty hot as it was well-wrapped, and if it had cooled off, I could always microwave at home. The fried chicken, mac n' cheese (my favorite vegetable...I know not really a veggie but a joke), etc. were all solid. If I was ever over here, I'd consider coming back; just so rare I go to DC these days.
