The music was chill and we had the World Cup on the screen so it was very entertaining to have that playing while conversing with friends. Jason was amazing! He was so sweet at the bar and catered to whatever my friends and I requested. He was also very quick to bring out the drinks and food requested. We got a lot of food and I honestly forgot to grab some pictures because we ate them up so quickly! The calamari and the sticky pork ribs stole the show most definitely! The front door host's were AWESOME, warm and welcoming ! However- PLEASE be very aware and cautious of the bartender AMAYA! She will openly flirt with your man in front of your face, while strategically giving you the EVIL EYES, she did this to me the whole visit. her conduct was so impish, and wicked. I wanted to eat outside, so I was looking for restaurants with patios. I was coming from Greenbelt and was on Georgia Avenue when Matchbox popped up as 1 of the suggested restaurants. I've been to other locations, so I decided to try this one as I've never been to this location before. Food- 3 Drink-4 Waitress-2 Ambience-5 Overall -3 Let's start with the food. At first I was disappointed when I saw they took off my favorite appetizer, so I ordered the Cripsy Calamari Appetizer instead. So as I am waiting my waitress had stopped by twice to ask me if I was ready to put in my entree and every-time I had to tell her no as I haven't even gotten my appetizer yet. This rubbed me the wrong, I felt like I was being rushed and that didn't make sense as this was on a Thursday at 1 pm and the restaurant was practically empty. Now the patio seating was lovely and I truly enjoyed basking in the sun while sipping on my Sauvignon Blanc, I have so many memories from DTS and it was nice to be in the area again. Anyways my Appetizer came and it was sooo good. I loved the fried jalapeños in the mix it really gave a nice kick to my Calamari. I decided to order the Shrimp Tempura Roll which is a new addition to the menu but whew this is where it went left. It was NOT good, drenched in sauce and fish eggs ... and the presentation of the roll looked sloppy and rushed especially considering one roll didn't even have Shrimp in it. There was barely any cucumber inside ... on top of all that they still gave me side dippings too... I ate 1 roll and it was nasty and too much. My husband and I stopped by for their Brunch yesterday and it was so worth it! My type of vibe, a live dj, and bottomless mimosas for $25. I got the catfish and grits and we got a pepperoni pizza. The food was delicious. They also offer a brunch buffet that has lots of options including a waffle station but I wasn't in the mood for that so maybe I'll check that out next time. The restaurant itself is nice, and spacious, the ambiance is a cool little vibe for a date or to bring your friends. My only reason for not giving them 5 stars is because of the bartender. The vibe has definitely changed. The restaurant was packed, with grass wall and plant decor and a DJ playing music, which gave it more of a trendy, day party feel than the laid-back brunch spot we remembered. They've also shifted to an all-you-can-eat brunch menu on weekends until 4 p.m., priced at $42 per adult and $14 per child. One important thing to note is that you can't take any food to go if you don't finish it. With kids, the pricing and restrictions just didn't make sense for us, so we opted to order individual entrees instead. I ordered the steak and eggs with French toast and a vanilla latte, and everything was good. The kids got cheese pizzas and absolutely loved them, which was a win. The other adults in our group also enjoyed their meals. Overall, the food is still good, but the new brunch format and louder atmosphere may not be ideal for everyone. Matchbox Silver Spring... you had me, then you lost me. Came in and was greeted right away by the hostess, which I always appreciate. She gave us the option of inside or patio seating, but we opted for the bar--seemed like the quickest move at the time. Now here's where things started to wobble a bit. We couldn't sit at any of the high tops because they all needed to be wiped down. When I asked about it, I was told the busser would get to it...eventually. No sense of urgency, no teamwork, no quick "let me take care of that for you." Just vibes. And not the good kind. So, bar it is. The bartender was pleasant enough and took our drink orders. I took a minute to look over the menu and landed on a dragon fruit lemonade, paired with the apple pear salad topped with salmon. Let me be clear: Food? On point. Drink? Tasty. No complaints there. But the experience around me? Not so much. Because those high tops never got wiped down, I was stuck sitting closer than I wanted to other guests, fully tuned into conversations I definitely didn't come to hear. Ambiance matters--and this wasn't it. Now let's talk about the real issue: the lemonade. At no point was it communicated--on the menu or verbally--that this dragon fruit lemonade was not a free-refill situation. Instead, it's $5 per serving. That's something you tell people upfront. Not after the fact when the bill drops. And when I asked about it? The response was just, "that's our house lemonade." ...Okay? And? That doesn't answer the question. Transparency goes a long way. I gave one demerit for the noise level. On Saturdays and Sundays there is a DJ for a few hours. We were sitting right near his setup, so it was really hard to hear our conversations. I came for brunch this past Sunday for my best friend's birthday, and I'm so glad she picked this spot! The food was amazing. Service could've been better since they were slow with water and clearing tables but the food more than made up for it. They offer unlimited brunch with shareable plates. I ordered the shrimp and grits and loved that it came with turkey sausage and no pork. It wasn't as hot as I like, but still delicious. The peaches and cream waffles were very indulgent. Ask for toppings on the side or they'll get soggy. I still enjoyed them so much I had to stop myself from finishing the whole thing. The breakfast potatoes were great with fresh onions and peppers and a perfect crunch. I also tried the lemon blueberry pancakes after eyeing another's plate. I asked for toppings on the side and was glad I did because the top pancake was crispy and amazing on its own. The warm maple butter was so good I wanted to dip everything in it. Thats reasonable, however she did not advise us that all fried foods will take over an hour while the rest of the offerings came in a timely fashion. Arancini: 3.5/5 - Pretty tasty and has nice dipping sauce Pizza bread: 4/5 - Good flavor and an interesting way to use extra bread IMO. Fried calamari: 3/5 - (Took almost 90 minutes to arrive) my friend said it was kind of bland and a little rubbery. 4 people got pizzas in a normal amount of time and enjoyed them. 2 people got salads and enjoyed them. Fried chicken sandwich (Nashville Hot / took over 90 minutes to arrive): 1/5 - Not at all spicy, the "hot" sauce was served on the side and was milder than green Tabasco. The chicken was very thin, unseasoned, and disappointing on all levels. My score is based on the food alone, not the wait. It's the unlimited brunch by far. Our server told us to go crazy and that's exactly what we did. We kept asking just to make sure, but yes, you can order EVERYTHING on the brunch menu as many times as you want for 2 hours. All for a mind blowing price of $38 per person. Unlimited Brunch At Matchbox in Downtown Silver Spring (that's where I went, but there's other locations that have brunch as well). This was my second time in a month going for brunch because it is SO WORTH IT. The DJ was phenomenal, Leayrohn played the best brunch music, people were dancing through the doors, I even got his IG before I left. Bairon our waiter was just as attentive and cool as ever, a really great example of what customer service should look like. My son was with me, who is graduating in 2 weeks and he really enjoyed our brunch date. I met both managers, Ty and Jim when Bairon told me that the patio area could be reserved for large parties, I had to find out more because a graduation brunch would be wonderful. Both managers provided me with information and let me know I could contact them with any further questions regarding large party reservations. Not only is the area nice, but DTSS is really a great place for a day/ night out. The patio area is nice in general, but so is the entire restaurant. It's just a wonderful place for casual dining. Now to the brunch The food was AMAZING!! I cannot stop talking about it and recommending visiting for the brunch deal. Make sure you have reservations because space does fill up fast. The stuffed French toast is delicious and the variations of dishes with grits are great! They also have a little section with popcorn and cotton candy which is such a cute touch. My first brunch at Matchbox was a great experience. The service was great and its a very spacious venue. The peach waffle and the French Toast were both delicious. I'd easily come back for those two items alone. The seafood scramble left a lot to be desired flavor wise and I definitely would not order or recommend that. While I didnt taste the shrimp and grits, they looked good and my friend really enjoyed it. The wings were good, it's all you can eat so just order more if you want more. The size was perfect for me because I only wanted to taste them. The waffle and taco bar didn't look bad, but the menu items sounded better so we stuck with them. The food was very good, but unfortunately the overall experience was impacted by inconsistent service. We arrived for our 9:30 brunch reservation and immediately ordered biscuits and pancakes, only to learn the blueberry pancakes are no longer offered, a disappointment since they were a favorite. Throughout the meal, we were repeatedly told the oven was causing delays. After waiting about 20 minutes for cinnamon rolls, our server informed us they weren't available and were supposedly arriving from another location. My eggs were ordered with cheddar but came with American cheese, and my latte was initially made with regular milk after I specifically requested almond milk. After asking multiple times about the biscuits and waiting nearly an hour, we watched identical orders go to another table while ours arrived later. The gentleman at the front was kind, personable, and professional, which was appreciated. The food we did receive tasted great, but the service issues made the experience frustrating. Amazing Experience! I had an incredible time here! The food truly over-delivered. The buffalo wings were the perfect size -- not those huge hormonal wings other places serve -- and every dish was just as impressive. The chicken and waffles, beef sliders, pepperoni pizza with pepperoni cups, and shrimp and grits were all delicious. The chicken Alfredo, even though it was tomato-based, was seasoned beautifully. The steak and eggs with potatoes were cooked and seasoned to perfection. The drinks were excellent as well. We had dinner at Matchbox on a Friday night. Overall, the restaurant was about half full. We waited about 10 minutes for the waiter to ask take our drink order. Very pleasant person. But after that, the service was really slow. We got margaritas and they were terrible! No salt, no flavor.... It seemed like something was missing. After another 20 minutes, our appetizer finally arrived at the same time as our entrees. It was clear that our appetizer had been sitting somewhere and everything was served at the same time. Unmatched! Period. This is the 2nd Matchbox I've been to for Sunday Brunch. This place was better than the other one. Why? Service: quicker, waiter was nicer and very accommodating. Ambiance: the DJ had the place LIVE!!! He was a WHOLE VIBE and played a variety of old and new school from different genres: Go-Go, Hip-hop, R&B, and Afrobeats. The energy in the building was a lot of fun with people dancing in the aisles, the DJ showing his moves etc... FOOD: we ordered a variety from the extensive brunch menu. Once prompted, they came over and offered helpful recommendations. Taste On the waiter's suggestion, we tried the catfish and grits as well as the huevos rancheros. Both dishes were absolutely delicious and came out quickly. They were so good, we found ourselves wanting more! Ambiance Matchbox is a great spot for both small and large groups. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, perfect for brunch. Its location is also convenient for exploring the nearby shopping area after your meal. I gave Matchbox's unlimited brunch a try last month (May 2025)... IT. WAS. GREAT!! Be sure to come on an empty stomach so you can eat your monies worth, haha. I came here with a few friends and we ordered a variety of dishes so we could try different things. We received complimentary biscuits (they were light, fluffy, and tasty) and ordered a lot of food off the meny. My favorite item was the stuffed French toast. The strawberries weren't the freshest, but still... that dish was SO DELICIOUS! I had the standard eggs, potatoes, and turkey sausage and they were cool... it's your standard breakfast. Nothing fancy needed. The waffles with the peaches were good as well, but once I tried the French toast? Oh, it was over for everything else! Actually, let me correct that... the old bay wings were bangin' too!! You know how sometimes you order wings at a restaurant and they are soggy or maybe they taste a lil freezer burned or something? There was none of that with the old bay wings... they were delightfully crisp and full of that old bay flavor. The old bay wings and stuffed French toast were my absolute faves!! If you're coming to hear the DJ, please note that he arrived around noon. We came at 10:00am and sat at the bar and left not too long after the DJ came. He also took requests, so that's nice if there's a song you want to hear while you're there. One thing I really loved about their brunch is that they allow you to take it to go (#WHERETHEYDOTHATAT??). Ordered buffalo chicken wings and a pepperoni and hot honey 10 inch pizza. The cost for both items to be delivered by DoorDash was $42.67, plus a $6.00 tip. The items were delivered 1.3 miles from restaurant to doorstep within the estimated timeframe. Sadly the pizza was cold, but the wings were still warm. I guess pizza gets colder faster..IDK... The pizza flavor was really good, which made me more disappointed to think how much better the pizza would've tasted if it had been hot, or at least warm. I could tell everyone was having the same experience. It wasn't very busy and there were less than 8 people at the bar but she was making drinks for the entire restaurant. I had the fig and prosciutto pizza which was okay. Just okay. I also had a gin cocktail that wasn't good. Another disappointing restaurant taking up space in great real estate. OMGoodness! So, some friends planned to meet up for a birthday celebration. When I got there, I could hear the music from outside, saw a crowd waiting, then made my way to the front and found my tribe. They were seated and had already ordered. So I sat down and started eating. They'd already ordered from the all you can eat menu and the food and drinks were flowing! Everything was delicious, the food was served hot, the service was timely, the wait staff were kind and efficient, the music/DJ were fire, and we had an all around great time! We had visited several Matchboxes and always appreciated their extensive menu and atmosphere. However, this experience was different and left us really disappointed and skeptical of visiting any future Matchbox. Service was awful and made the entire dining experience stressful. We constantly had to remind our waitress of our orders, it took nearly 40 minutes for our drinks to arrive, and our orders came out at different intervals. When our orders arrived, it would come from another staff member who would just shout the order over and over until someone grabbed it from him. The food was good and we did appreciate the something for everyone options - salads, pizzas, sandwiches, and dessert options. However, the terrible service still certainly cause us to go elsewhere. read more

A group of friends and myself came in tonight to celebrate a birthday! The service from start to finish was nothing less than amazing! Our server Bryron was the best, he made great recommendations, was very knowledgeable and attentive! We also got to meet Jake the FOH manager, who was also amazing and very attentive! Everything was great! We had drinks, shots, appetizers and entrees. Wish I had room for dessert! I will definitely be returning to this location with more family and friends! My husband and I had reservations for The Matchbox and we arrived a few minutes early. We chose this place based upon the recommendation of a friend we are visiting. When we first arrived, the young lady at the counter left and went to the back. She never said welcome nor even acknowledged our presence. Another team member up and seated us. After seating us, she left. She didn't say that 'someone will be with you shortly' or anything. After that, we saw no one. My husband and I gave them what we felt was a reasonable time to come and check on us and no one did. They acted as we did not exist. The restaurant was not crowded by any means. The other diners all appeared to have been served. No one ever came to take a drink order or check on us. We set there a reasonable amount of time and then got up and left. No one even acknowledged that we were leaving. The staff at Miss Toya's (next door) and Copper Canyon (across the street) provided exceptional service and food during our previous dining experiences with them. After leaving, we went to McGuinty's Pub and were treated as paying patrons. Both the service and food at McGuinty's was good. The Matchbox is apparently doing so well they can afford to turn away patrons on a slow night. read more

If you would like a long, wait time, unprepared serving, hair in your food, poor service, wrong items, and begged for what you ordered then this is the place for you. Me and my sisters came to this place because we heard good things however we made a reservation and we had to still wait for a table in order to be seated. This is very unacceptable and I will never be back. read more

Went to matchbox (Silver Spring) Sunday at 2:15. For a start, the music was so loud inside (pushing past 80 decibels!) I could barely communciate with the host(ess). Had to be sat outside, as inside would have been impossible to hear/talk without shouting. (Strike 1) Service was SLOW. The bar was the issue; we got our appetizers before we got our drinks! (Strike 2) We didn't get drinks for close to 30 minutes after ordering. (I ordered my 2nd when he brought the 1st.) I felt bad for the waiter. The food itself was decent; the spinach & artichoke dip was good, and the Buffalo wings were spicy, if a little skimpy. Lastly, when we arrived, I told them I had a reservation (via OpenTable), which they acknowledged, but I later got an email from OpenTable asking why I missed the reservation. They didn't click the button to let OpenTable know I was there. (Strike 3) Next time I'm trying Miss Toya's Creole House next door, or going to the Rockville matchbox. read more

Oh my Waffle! This place was not packed for brunch and I'm not sure why! This is an amazing place to brunch and if you haven't been, GO! Everything was GOOD! The Waffle was to die for! Will be back to brunch. Great service too! read more
