I recently revisited Kaldi's Social House, a place I hadn't been to in years. The restaurant features comfortable seating and a large bar that effectively divides the space, accommodating both diners and those working on laptops. We decided to order breakfast to-go. Although there was a line, it moved quickly, which was a pleasant surprise. We tried the 12oz lattes, which were decent but could use a little extra flair to elevate the flavor. This Black History Month, I've decided to celebrate Black excellence by supporting Black-owned businesses! The support continues beyond February so join me! Today we took a drive to Kaldi's to order some breakfast to-go. The restaurant was really packed but the ordering process was actually pretty smooth. We ordered their 12oz lattes, my drink was modified to add a splash of almond milk. The lattes sadly weren't anything special and could probably benefit from some cinnamon or a flavor of some sort to bring a little personality to the drink. To eat, we ordered their waffles (sorry for the to-go pictures) I ordered the sweet corn waffle and my boyfriend ordered the waffles with fresh berries. The waffles were PHENOMENAL!!!!!!!!! Probably the best and most creative waffles I've had in a long time. The sweet corn waffles were magical. The addition of jalapeño peppers perfectly balanced off the sweet flavor seeping through the waffles. It was beautifully paired. The waffles were also very creamy and soft. Only downside is that I didn't care for the random garnish of corn of top but I get the presentation. This might have been better if it was seasoned or sautéed but the random corn didn't add or take away from the dish. My boyfriend lovedddddd his waffles and berries and said that it was the perfect breakfast selection. I'll definitely come back to order more waffles but also wished that they had a way of conducting pick up through their online portal. As mentioned, it was packed in there but there were some nice seating around the restaurant so I assume that you'll need to get there really early in order to dine in. Loving the ambiance and how it's divided into cozy lounge seating as you walked in, counter and bar seating in the middle and towards the back with your usual dining tables etc. We chose the dining area. QR code available on each table so you can order and your order will be coming straight up. My order of shakshouka and violet latte was delicious. My friend had caramel latte and chicken waffles, which she said was also great. Would love to come back trying other items on menu. read more

Parking can be a bit tricky since it is in downtown Silver Spring, but there is a garage within walking distance which made it manageable. The ambiance was really inviting, and I learned that on weekends it even turns into a rooftop nightlife spot. Service was quick and accurate, which I appreciated while getting work done. Kaldi's is definitely one of my favorite coffeeshops. It's pretty spacious, but there have been many times I wasn't able to find a seat, especially on weekends. I've never been disappointed by the food and drinks. They give you a pretty decent amount of food, so I'll say it's worth the price. I used to come here for happy hour and their upstairs lounge back in the day, but I'm not sure that still goes on. I remember the drinks being a pretty reasonable price as well. read more

The experience I has today was completely unacceptable. I went to Kaldi's rooftop this past weekend and accidentally left my jacket. I called the social house and rooftop all day Saturday and it continuously went straight to voicemail. Today I decided to stop by in person. I talked to a cashier who was nice and told me she would try to help but was unsure because they have different management from upstairs. I told her I completely understood and there was no rush. She talked to who I assume is her manager and his demeanor was completely rude towards me when I literally said nothing to him. He scoffed and said "she's gunna have to wait". The cashier let me know she would check but she had to do a few things first. Again, no rush, I told her I appreciate her. The man asked what kind of jacket it was and I told him. He came back down with my jacket with a scowl on his face. I decided to kill him with kindness and thanked him even though he showed me nothing but hostility. He ignored me and turned his back. With this said I would never return to this establishment. I have heard several horror stories about how they treat people especially black women and this was very disheartening to experience. After my visit to the VA one I had to expedit my visit to the one closer to home, and it did not disappoint! I didn't get a full meal, but I got a refreshing green smoothie -- I don't remember the name, but I know it had spinach, kale, banana, coconut, and more and it was delicious. I loved that it was served in a jar -- that's not something I see too often! The setup of the place is entirely different from the other location, and they have some outdoor seating too. Each indoor table has a QR code you can scan to order, or you can order at the counter. All the staff I interacted with were really friendly, and again they play great music. I got their apple butter latte and it was really well done however I think I just didn't like the flavor of it personally but it doesn't mean that it wasn't Not well done! I love Kaldi's! Such a great atmosphere for small meetings, studying/work, or even a date. I have been periodically going for years, but finally decided I should review because I forgot how delicious the breakfast sandwich is! I'm a pescatarian so I got it without any meat, but it was so good even without. I think it's the crisp of the cheese. I also got the strawberry fields smoothie- love the fresh strawberry topping and the slight thickness from the almond butter. The BEST hot dirty chai in the area! Totally love it as well as the ambiance of the place. I went every time I took classes next door at Create. I also would pick up a sandwich for carry out. All were wonderful and I'd definitely recommend this restaurant for lunch or a quick breakfasts. Only issue is parking can be a pain. But it's worth this little hassle. A tale of two dishes! While the salmon omelette was a total hit, the gluten-free waffle was a complete miss. I honestly regret ordering it. We came here with our friend and our baby. It is such a great place to meet up with friends and enjoy coffee/ tea and some good food. The atmosphere is amazing. We came here for brunch and I ordered chicken and waffle, a croissant, a zucchini bread. Everything is quite delicious. My husband got an açaí bowl and he loves it very much. I decided to have a breakfast affair while visiting, and instead of going to Parkway Deli I elected to have a meal at Kaldi's. The space is very hipster but in the best ways possible. I liked the coffee and loved the ambience of this place. The latte was solid. Not scalding hot, a touch of foam, and strong solid flavor with balanced milk. I thought they would add stevia but it was at the table. No biggie. Everyone seemed to be ear hustling everyone else's conversations. This was definitely the place where you overheard some interesting things. People watching was good too. I definitely got a sense of people's struggles or lack thereof by the types of bags they were carrying. It was a little early for lunch and I was pressed for time. Also, my food allergies seemed to take baked goods off the table. Unfortunately, the baked goods did not leave me longing. I can't believe I have never been here! I love a good Matcha latte and they did not disappoint. Came here for a ladies brunch and everyone enjoyed every single thing. The set up is a little bit chaotic when trying to get a seat, but thankfully, it wasn't super crowded. My biggest gripe is that the potatoes were not seasoned. But everything was still very good. I had an egg white veggie omelette with potatoes and a lavender Matcha latte. That might be one of the best matcha lattes I've had in a while. Everyone really enjoyed their drinks as well. The space is very inviting and comfortable. I heard they have a rooftop, but it's only open for events. I'm hoping that when it starts getting warm, they will reconsider. WARNING: Infested with ROACHES! Owner knows and doesn't care! I have loved this place since it opened but when I went this morning, I found multiple roaches CRAWLING ON MY PARTNER during breakfast. Worst yet, when I told the staff, they told me they were already *fully aware* and that the owner (Shawn/Sean) was unwilling to shut the restaurant down or meaningfully address the issue. They were advised by the owner to quietly refund my food and then scoot patrons out of that one section, by *lying* to everyone - saying they needed to do a "deep cleaning" in that area. Roaches are not just gross, they are dangerous - carrying many food-borne illnesses such as salmonella, e.coli, etc. Knowingly staying open when you have an active infestation is *unethical and illegal*. There are reviews from weeks ago citing that other patrons also saw and reported roaches and nothing has been done to resolve this - only to hide it. This establishment does not care about your health. As someone who loves bugs, I can attest that I saw multiple life stages (nymph, juvenile, and adult). This indicates a full infestation that has been allowed to continue for far too long. Plus, the roaches I saw were in an area away from the food and moisture in the kitchen and behind the bar -- where there is almost definitely a much larger amount (given that they are certainly not surviving by eating benches and wallpaper). Plus: they have gone through great lengths to block me on social media to prevent this information from getting out Updated to add: the environmental protection agency public health division sent someone to inspect kaldi's on 12/12/25 and confirmed the roach infestation. They had to legally compel Kaldi's to do the right thing and hire an exterminator, and will be subjected this business to an additional biannual review process because of their concealment of this issue that endangered their customers. read more

I came here to meet my sister and her infant on a weekday morning. The cafe is child-friendly, with plenty of space for the stroller. We shared the lemon ricotta pancakes which were savory without being too sweet and covered in a berry compote. We absolutely demolished the pancakes. We also got the build-your-own breakfast wit the vegetarian breakfast sausage (excellent), squash (also good), potatoes, avocado, eggs, and salmon (only fine - a little dry.) I also got a cappucino which was perfectly fine. There were a few folks on their laptops and I did take a work call during breakfast. It was a reasonable work environment, though they do play music. We stopped here to do some adulting and wedding planning after seeing the Muppets Christmas Carol at AFI Silver and the vibes were just lovely. My partner had done some work here about a month ago in between a couple appointments locally. I really like my mumbai fog drink and i'm intrigued to try the coffee. My grilled cheese was amazing cheesy and I liked the kick of mustard with it. Great value for the price. I did want a bigger bowl of soup though. That probably should've just been it's own order. Oh well. The soup was wonderfully tasty. My partner really liked her chicken and waffles with the sweet corn waffle option clicked. This was my first time eating here and I really enjoyed my meal. I didn't mind their "seat yourself" set up but I was a little confused on how to order because there weren't a lot of menus around but I ended up figuring it out. I ordered a waffle, bacon, and eggs and it was really good but I think I'd leave the waffle off next time because I just wasn't a fan. I went here for brunch a while back and I sat at the bar. I can't really comment on everything about the service because people who sit at the bar have to order their food upfront. The staff were very nice and helpful. As far as how the place looks, it doesn't really stand out as anything too memorable, but it was pretty nice and spacious. I asked for a recommendation on what coffee I should order and I thought it was really well made. This was a while ago and I don't drink a lot of coffee, so I don't remember what kind it was. I remember it being good though. I also ordered the chicken and waffles and unfortunately they weren't very good. The waffles tasted bland. I wish they had added something like cinnamon to give the waffles a little flavor. The syrup wasn't helping much either. The chicken was better than the waffles and they were a tiny bit spicy which helps balance it with the syrup, but they weren't that good either. They weren't that tender or juicy, it was disappointing. For brunch at least, I don't think I'll be coming back here. Unfortunately I only pictured two out of the five items we ordered, the Ultimate breakfast sandwich was so good after we took one bite we didn't stop eating. Either way, we ordered the Lemon Ricotta Hotcakes, Chicken & Waffles, Ultimate Breakfast Sandwich, side of chicken sausage w/scrambled eggs, onions & tomatoes. The servings are a decent size for one person, definitely not shareable (just in case you were wondering). The Ultimate breakfast sandwich was everything! We decided to get it on a toasted croissant instead of the brioche & loved every bite. Definitely a must have item! The lemon ricotta hotcakes were full of flavor, had the perfect balance of tartness & sweetness. I got the blueberries on the side being that I was unsure if it would overpower the other flavors. Their eggs & chicken sausage were good as well. Went to Kaldi's today to get the Gluten Free Pumpkin Pie French Toast listed on the web site. Not only were they NOT available when we arrived, the menu was COMPLETELY different than listed online, and the waiter said they don't make gluten free French Toast because it's not good. I ordered gluten free waffles and was handed waffles by the waiter. I asked if they were gluten free because I'm allergic to gluten and he said they were. They were NOT. They were the standard waffles that someone else in our party ordered. When he brought the second plate of waffles, I asked again. He assured me the new plate was gluten free. I thoroughly enjoy each visit to Kaldi's. Today I ordered a custom breakfast meal with waffles, bacon, and potatoes. The chai was delicious and made with oat milk. I like how each table has a QR code for you to order directly through the Toast app. It makes your service there very convenient. I did notice when I went to the bar when I ordered a second dirty chai it was $1 more than on toast. Not sure why that is but it was odd. Most folks there are busy working or reading with headphones on. I couldn't say whether or not it's noisy but every visit I never have a complaint about it be hard to focus. Which goes to show why I enjoy coming here because it's a chill environment to lock in and get things done or just relax/unwind, catch up with a friend or even a first date.
