I cant believe that this was only my third visit. Ever since I read about Manifest Bread opening shop in Riverdale, I've meant to visit but kept forgetting to until a couple months ago and now I will make a more concerted effort to stop by on my day off. Manifest Bread not only has a neat variety of menu options but, the ambiance!!! It's a cool interior, clean bathrooms, and AMAZING STAFF! I've come twice for breakfast and once for their jambon beurre sandwich. My first breakfast included: - sweet potato bialy: interesting-in-a-good way grouping of ingredients and the crust was crisp - biscuit with butter & jam: biscuit was flaky, crisp, and yet doughy; the right amount of butter, and jam provided tartiness/refreshing bite - olive oil cake: no complaints! My second breakfast included: - biscuit with butter & jam: a must have! - basque cheesecake: I have to be in the mood for cheesecake and I'd aay it was "light and airy" but may not be the best judge here - cardamom bun: last 2 times I came here, the cardamom bun was coated in a thick white frosting, but this time, it was different, so i HAD to go for it and for a fan of cardamom, this was superbub! ABUNDANT amountof cardamom and right amount of moistness! I would have ordered a bialy again but new I was going to have a big lunch so will get it next time. The jambon beurre sandwich was not what I had expected as it was more...flavourful and salty than I would have preferred as I like a plain butter and ham on a baguette sandwich...however, you can taste the quality of the meats used. UPDATE: Went back for breakfast and this time got the mulled apple cider and: - onion poppyseed bialy: I did not need creamcheese with this and it was fine, but if you eat the crust with butter and the apple butter - yum. Crust was on the tough-chew side, but flavor profile was good. Now that I've had it again, will stick to the biscuit. - morning bun: very flaky, crisp, snd the sugar just got all over and me being a messy eater, I felt like I got the sugar all over me and sticky, too. I've purchased their baked goods at regional farmers' markets and wanted to see the brick & mortar store for myself. It's located in a convenient, small shopping center off of Route 1. Parking is challenging at peak times. The selection of baked goods is varied and fresh. The line to buy items can get long. There's a decent-sized space to "eat-in", should you want. The sweet potato/chili/pistachio bialy is quite a creation, really like it, zings big time. I've never seen that flavor combo in a bialy before and hope they keep making it. The gingerbread with meyer lemon glaze has a very deep ginger flavor that's quite memorable. Not as keen about the breads. The community sandwich loaf is too plain for me and the sourdough breads are tame. read more

This place is open all day. It is next to a train station, albeit the kind of strange suburban riverdale area that I don't know sees a ton of commuters. The parking lot is crowded and a bit of a mess. Coming on a weekend meant waiting in line, and it was not a speedy line. The selection was interesting, but they were struggling to keep up with demand. I ordered the last piece of multiple styles of baked goods, which I suspect was upsetting for the people behind me but which was a decision that worked out well for the recipients of my haul. The loaf was richly sour and the butter I got with it tasted cultured, the other pastries and things I tried didn't quite leave the same impression. Love this place! Lots of seating and the kindest workers. They go above and beyond for their customers. I wanted to buy their fresh milled flour, which they sell for 4$ lb if in excess, which they say is 95% of the time. Also tried their bialy, which is similar to a bagel and it was quite sour, but texture phenomenal. Their olive oil cake was like a pound cake and the frosting is the main flavor, but afterwards you get a lingering scent of olive oil. Cardamon bun was ok. Espresso tonics are like my favorite drink and theirs hit the spot. I am a savory girl and this place has so many savory and sweet options, especially since they have actual food as well. Manifest Bread was so popular, the owners decided to expand the premises to have a larger sit-down area where they could offer lunch and dinner in addition to the bakery. And I was excited! How disappointing to find - after a long wait while the restaurant was shut for renovations - that the lunch menu is even more limited than it was before. There were just a few sandwiches to begin with, and now my favorite (mufaletta) is only offered on a few days of the week. I don't understand this. If you have the ingredients, the labor, and the technique, why hold back? The new space is beautiful, with plenty of tables and staff on hand. But, tellingly, there were few customers for lunch on Sunday. To me the space, which must have required a big investment, is hugely under utilised. I hope it is just growing pains. read more

We finally made it! I made it my mission to visit Manifest on a Sunday morning post snowstorm for breakfast. When you enter there is an ordering line where you can see all of the of the baked goods they have for the day and make your selections before it's your turn to order. There is coffee, tea, and a wine menu as well. Manifest faces the parking lot and has large windows that get lots of natural sunlight at the table that's right in front. We were lucky enough to get the table right in front which was perfect for such a cold day. My partner and I decided to try the savory danish with a whipped cream cheese onion filling topped with a light cheese served cold (a touch too cold for the weather). We also tried the frittata with potato and I'm not quite sure as the other ingredients were easy to miss, we also tried the homemade hot sauce, which was very spicy! The frittata was served cold as well. We ordered two cookies to go the chocolate chip pecan and ginger molasses both large, soft, and perfect. The ginger had a nice fresh fragrant flavor! Worth the drive! Looking forward to trying the sourdough bread and foccaccia that we are taking home. There was a line but it went quickly and food was brought out quickly. Mwe ordered poached egg on bialy, sweet potato, chili, and pistachio bialy, cardamom bun, and mushroom and onion pastry. Beverages included lemonade, hibiscus lemonade, and cappuccino. Everything was amazing! Flaky pastry, perfect crunch and chew on the bagel, egg was done just right, and everything came out looking beautiful! They don't have holiday flavored lattes but have a few nice flavors. If you want the frittata warmed you have to request it warmed. Nice cafe music was a little loud so can't work there for long without it being bothersome. read more

Manifest Bread in its new, enlarged iteration is better than ever. As often happens, the closure during renovations took a LONG time. It was worth the wait! The olive and onion foccacia here is sublime. The Basque cheesecake, also, absolutely an amazing creation. We're also very fond of the financiers, the ginger cookie and the baguette... Really, everything we've tried is as good as that particular thing can be. We'll keep returning for our faorites and to try as much of the menu as we can! read more

Everyone is excited about the bread and pastries, but the real gem is the dinner and beverage service. Manifest is turning out some of the best pizzas in the DMV alongside an ever changing lineup of delicious and seasonal appetizers. We used to order pizza every Thursday and had been waiting for a pizza nights to come back because they have the best pizza. Instead of just ordering carry out we decided to eat in. I'll start with the downside because after that I only have good things to say. The online menu is a sample menu so drinks and food may not match what is actually being offered in the restaurant. They also had us order before we sat down and we definitely weren't ready for that when the menu was different. My husband had a plate with sliced pork or ham (sorry I don't eat it so no idea the proper name), some type of jam/jelly, a big cracker. He said the meat was delicious and I had some cracker which was really good. We also had a cod, potato dish with bread which was very good! As always the pizza was amazing! DC came out a list of best sourdough breads or something and everyone was commented this shop in the comments that wasn't on the list. So I drove 45 mins from Alexandria to try it. Got there 930am and got the goods. Owner lady helped me and was lovely and nice! Everyone was great and service was great. Got to try their pastries and sesame sourdough. Good stuff all around and sesame bread was great. Sliced them up,froze them and heat up a slice when I want one. So good. Sesame adds a punch to the flavor profile. Well done Manifest. This bakery is the truth! Popped in, thinking I was going to have a hearty breakfast for Juneteenth, and it ended up being a bakery - best decision ever! The line was a few people out the door, which I didn't mind, and we were served promptly. We ordered a cold brew and a latte, The almond and rhubarb financier (if memory serves me correctly) and the cardamom roll. All were excellent - I mean wow. Decadent but light and full of flavor. The financier has such an interesting texture with the surprise bite of compote in the middle - SO good. The roll was like eating a delish slice of chai bread - I dont know if that's a real thing but this is what I envision it to be. This place was so good we came right back after running some errands and grabbed the buerre jambon sandwich and two more financiers and the salted caramel corn cookie. That sandwich was made from the heart of a french chef and no one can tell me different. I mean just wow! The meat, the bites of salt. THE BUTTER?? Salivating just thinking about it. Definitely one of my new favorite bakeries in the DMV! I've loved everything I've tried so far. The cardamom bun is perfectly moist (not dry and hard like cardamom/cinnamon buns can sometimes be), and I'm not even a huge fan of cardamom but the flavor is perfectly balanced with the sweetness of the icing. Their chocolate chip cookie was also delicious - still soft and gooey even though I took it home and didn't eat it until the next day. Their focaccia has a great sourdough flavor and chew, and I also enjoyed the chicken salad sandwich. Also, don't miss out on the lattes! In conclusion everything has been delicious. There has been a bit of line every time that I've been but it moves relatively quickly, and there's a good amount of seating inside if you plan on eating there, as a lot of people seem to just get takeout. I was in search of some non-grocery store sourdough bread and found this business. I was excited about the opportunity to taste some fresh bread. I arrived at about 1 PM on a Friday after a 30 minute drive to their location and was deeply disappointed that they were sold out. I never understand why bakeries Don't bake all day long. I was told by the person taking orders that in order to get bread it's best to get there no later than 10 AM. Since I had already driven all the way to get there I figured I would experience what else they had to offer. So I got a sandwich. The sandwich was good, but not amazing. As you can see from the picture it's a ciabatta and was burnt. The flavor of the sandwich overall was good, but not something I would be excited to make another trip back just for the sandwich and would not order it again. The soda was tasty. The location is nice. Parking was easy. It's a small place but on a Friday afternoon there were a decent amount of available seats. Manifest Bread is absolutely the most prime bakery in PG County and the NE DC area! Their sourdough bread is incredible, their sandwiches are creative and delightful, and the baked goods are out of this world! Their cardamom bun is truly otherworldly! It's a small storefront with a surprising number of options. There's usually a line out the door on weekends and it moves fairly quickly. They make two kinds of sourdough bread, baguettes, focaccia, apple crumble, chocolate babka, chocolate chip walnut cookies, pistachio and corn financiers, and a few other baked goods. When I went, they were in process of replenishing everything so I got what was behind the counter- the financiers. Truly, the flavors of pistachio and corn worked perfectly together. I bought one and then came back for two more. 2) Coffee: They have a full coffee menu that includes a latte, cortado, macchiato, espresso, americano, cappuccino, drip coffee, and cold brew. They brew Ceremony Coffee. My latte was creamy and adding a few packets of sugar made it pop for my sweet tooth. They also sell teas and lemonade. 3) Space: It's on a block of other local businesses and in a small yellow building. There are a few small tables and seats, but most get their order to go. There's a public restroom in the very back. The entire space is beautifully-designed, letting lots of natural light in. 4) Story: It's owned by a husband-wife team who baked out of their house during the pandemic, cultivating a loyal following. Now they have a storefront. If they are not too busy, talk to them. Have repeat customers in line raving about the food and attesting to this place. That was a good sign considering they just opened. Come early this is a hit for the local Riverdale community. Did I wake up early on a Saturday morning to bike 5mi to enjoy some carbs? Yes. Was it worth it?? A resounding YASSSS! My friends and I got a croissant, cardamom bun, strawberry and lemon tart, cheddar and apple baguette sandwich, and a regular sourdough loaf. Cardamom bun was so tender and the last bite in the middle had that perfect texture that smooshes between your teeth; it was very cardamom forward without making it tasty too spicy. The baguette bread was substantial and had a thick crust, which the fillings held well up against--nothing really squeezed out! Croissant was flakey, but Pluma's is still the best in the area imo. The tart filling was delicious, but it didn't match any other tarts we were familiar with, so we were thrown off. I didn't try the sourdough, which is their specialty, but my friend said it had a great crumb and was nice and soft inside. The shop is fairly modest, so don't come here with a group expecting to find seating. There were two small tables with 2 chairs each and 3 stools against the wall when I came. Most people were grab and go, so it wasn't a big deal! Service was friendly and very helpful! We even chatted with one of the owners briefly who gladly responded to our many questions. Yes, I did wake up early on a Sunday morning to commute from DC. No, I don't regret doing that. I arrived before 11 and some of their options were out already. Expect a line but it usually moves fast. I got a cardamom bun and took home a loaf of whole wheat sourdough. The cardamom bun was amazing!! Very strong cardamom fragrant, not too sweet at all, pillowy soft dough and delicious icing. My only complaint is it's not big enough because I want more. The whole wheat loaf was great as well - high hydration, and you taste the flavor and texture of the grain. Their focaccia also looked amazing, will try next time. The shop is pretty small so seating is limited, definitely more of a grab-and-go situation than a sit down cafe. read more

The space itself is uncomfortably small (but they are expanding soon!). So I wouldn't go and expect to sit. The nice thing it's located in a cute Riverdale Park where you could go find an outdoor spot. My favorite treats here are the ginger molasses cookie and focaccia. I get two focaccias every Saturday at the Gateway Farmers Market (which they will still be doing when they close for expansion). The tomato basil focaccia is my favorite! You never know what focaccia they will have so it's a nice surprise. You cannot go wrong with any kind of focaccia they have. Staff have always been friendly. read more

A very cozy coffee and bread shop that has a few other offerings available. If you are in the Hyattsville, MD, I want to encourage you to make this shop part of your morning. I had the softest and tasteful onion bagel and a latte. The staff is friendly and the location is also very central to the Marc train for those who commute. You can grab your coffee before you hip on. Seating is very limited, so make plans to grab your goods and go or to be very friendly with those who are coming in since the space isn't large. Well, I am late to the party, but I finally got to the much-vaunted Manifest Bread bakery at 6208 Rhode Island Avenue in Riverdale Park, Maryland 20737. And, now that I've stopped there for a sandwich, a cocktail, and a cookie, I definitely see what all the fuss is about! By 2:30 pm on a Saturday afternoon, the small bakery had run out of a lot of things, but I was able to get a Chicken Salad Sandwich on a baguette ($10), two Oatmeal Date Cookies ($3), two Financiers ($5), and a Mediterranean Gin & Tonic ($12). There is nothing quite as refreshing as a G&T on a hot day, and this one had a unique edge: the addition of clementine liqueur, which gave it a citrusy sweetness, and lovely color. The baguette was the best I have tasted in the DMV... spectacularly crispy and nutty on the outside and tender on the inside, and filled with a very creamy house-made chicken salad... an enormous sandwich of very high quality for $10 (photo shows only the smaller half). Oh, Manifest... just when I have found you, you are closing soon for a planned expansion. So, folks, if you haven't been to Manifest yet, don't dilly dally... they will close for 3 to 4 months starting at closing time on July 28 (last day of service), and hope to re-open as a 20-table cafe with a 7-seat bar sometime in November, after they have expanded into the space next door. And, while you're in the neighborhood, you can leave your car in the lot in front of Manifest and walk across the street to Town Center Market liquor store (amazing selection of rare rums, whiskeys, tequilas, liqueurs, and other spirits), and 2Fifty Texas BBQ, home of award-winning smoked meats. Talk about a Hidden gen! This bakery is in a small, nondescript shopping center by the train tracks in Riverdale. If you've ever been to Texas 50 it is close to that. They make the most incredible pastry, breads, and cakes, and on Thursdays you can special order a pizza that is out of this world. This morning I picked up some chocolate croissants and some apple turnovers and needless to say they received rave reviews from my guest visiting from out of town . The croissants are unbelievable. I think the best in the DMV by far there was only one table inside to set but there's a park close by when the weather is nice and you can have your coffee and pastry highly recommend this establishment and I can tell you I have bought cakes for birthdays and they are delicious as well. read more
