I've had Era on my list for about a year now and I'm so excited that my partner brought me for a date night. We had a 6:30pm reservation and upon arrival we were promptly seated at lovely window table near the front. The ambiance is great it's spacious with beautiful tables, chairs, and a decent sized wine display. Our first server was great she offered suggestions for wine and the menu and she had a friendly personality. We started with the Era 75 and a glass in the Spanish , red that was on "wine o' clock", we also ordered the shrimp and avocado tostini's and truffle fries. The wine was ok it wasn't as full bodied as I expected it to be but my partner really like the era75. The crostini's were a 10/10 and the truffle fries were a miss as I think they could have been cooked for a few more minutes. The servers switched at some point so we got someone new and I think she was only person there. We both ordered the linguine with the first server but the second came right before our dishes came and we shared we wanted a white to pair with the pasta. She seemed a little less knowledgeable but she made a suggestion that I liked the Alvarinho. The wine didn't come out, I had to stop eating and wait. She came back after about 12-15 minutes to check on us and I shared we still had not received the wine. Another person came to check on us I'm not sure who he was but possibly the owner. The linguine was well prepared although a bit salty for my liking. We were warned about the spice level but it wasn't spicy in my opinion. Overall the dish was good. For dessert my partner ordered cheesecake. The reason I'm giving a 4 is because of the slow service after the servers switched out and because the kitchen became quite smoky a few times and I smelt like smoke when we left. I will definitely return and I'm looking forward to the patio when it gets warmer out. read more

I have visited this establishment several times, and it consistently delivers a wonderful experience. Between the menu, the wine selection, and the overall vibe, everything feels perfectly curated. The restaurant had a nice feel as soon as you walk in. It wasn't very busy, but I assume that was due to the weather. There's parking right across the street if you can't find street parking. I attended for a group event with a pre-fixed three-course meal. For the appetizer, we were limited to two small bites per person, which honestly took me by surprise. The bites themselves were pretty good. Those of us who ordered the steak received it well done despite requesting medium-well, though the flavor was still good. The cucumber salad lacked flavor, and the shrimp pasta portion was on the smaller side. The cheesecake was the best thing in the course. The wine selection, however, was great; really good wine options. I'm giving it three stars, mainly because it may have been a challenge handling a large group. It's quiet in a snowy Sunday but the environment is clean and inviting. I tried the South African Brut Rosé and while it was enjoyable it had orange wine notes that some people may not be thrilled about. It's a nice neighborhood spot that I think is perfect for solo outings, small group gatherings, or date nights. I tried 3 wines: a Dornfelder (red), late harvest Royal Tokaji (white), and a Riesling called sekt fitz Ritter pfalz. These all are sweeter wines and I enjoyed all, but I liked the late harvest Royal Tokaji the best. I also love that they don't just have light bites here. The steak I ordered was cooked perfectly and was flavorful. My friend got the lamb sliders and enjoyed them. We also got the salute charcuterie board that had smoked mozzarella, black pepper pecorino, gorgonzola dolce Prosciutto, bresaola, truffle salami House marinated olives, Lambrusco wine jelly, rosemary focaccia. It was perfect! We sat at the bar because originally I was interested in potentially ordering happy hour drinks (they have cocktails and wine for happy hour), but I ended up not getting anything happy hour related. I believe select wines and cocktails are 50% off at happy hour. Jaime, a lovely team member was behind the bar and she was very nice and knowledgeable about all the wines. First...it's hard to find, I mean you could easily miss it because I would pass it everyday if I'm commuting into DC. It's RIGHT there on Rhode Island Ave...on the opposite corner of pennywise or whatever that other restaurant is(right below the circle before you get into DC). The wine Well...I'm not a wine person per se but I overheard a wine person say, "For such a small establishment, they have a great variety of wines" They allow a tastings cause, I'm not a wine person...yet. I found a wine I actually like. The owner(s) also co-authored "Wine for Dummies". Like I said, I'm not a wine person but I'm no dummy either. She's a PhD and a sommelier, I think that's what they call the wine experts...so you can't go wrong. The food I was more hungry than thirsty on my Bumble date so I thought it was going to be some fu fu dishes typical for a wine bar but let me tell you. I had a burger, I figured that would be safe, I was wrong...that Grand Cru burger thing is one of the best burgers I've had in my life. I had one in Brazil that was better but top three in my life and I'm over 50 so...go figure. My friend had the tandoori wings the meat was falling off the bone. The servers are knowledgeable about wines and pairings. I heard it's family owned and you can feel it when you get there, not to say it's ghetto or slacking in any endeavor, the place feels warm. It's definitely not a sports bar so business casual is perfect, I didn't see any jerseys or boots. It's really chill with a semi-bourgeois cool vibe. It's a quiet spot, when the members are not there, LOL Joking...not joking, what I mean is, I learned that there are memberships and the members were there in full effect. They are a positive hilarious diverse bunch. They get a little loud but nothing like a sports bar. I heard them shh shhhing themselves, during some humorous debate about men and women. It was black AND white people talking at the bar, which during these times is rare but they seem to all share info and allow all opinions...I was eavesdropping. No one was there trying to win...nothing but respect. It's a community that I would like to remain a part of. If I'm commuting, I'll probably go on Thursdays to avoid traffic. Okay !!! Era Wine Bar has been on my " Black Girl" wine list for two years . This past weekend, I decided to get the ladies together. Atmosphere, it's cute and intimate . I love the location . It's the border line of Mt Rainer, MD and Washington DC, perfect N.E. WDC location for that strip . Customer service was accommodating and hospitable. I actually had to return my linguini pasta dish because the spice was over powering . (I don't like spicy foods and was unaware that this particular dish had heavy spices ). Anyway there was no push back, instead alternatives were offered . It worked out . I love the wines selection and you get two samples of two different wines . Very nice and upscale looking establishment. Though Era is a wine bar, it does look the part of a proper dining venue. Myself and a friend made a stop here on a Saturday evening after hanging at another nearby establishment. We were greeted by a friendly host and opted to sit at the bar. Our Bar Host was equally friendly and very outgoing (wish I could remember her name). She made suggestions in terms of what we might consider ordering which was helpful. We ultimately chose wine flights and a couple small bites (bars). The food was very good and so was the wine. Somehow, I ended up ordering a pecan pie for dessert which I didn't need but was also delicious. All in all, this was a great experience and I would be really happy to go back. Side note, Era wasn't particularly crowded when I got there. I'm happy I randomly came across this place. A friend and I met here for lunch on a Sunday and we were both very pleased with the experience. We came at about 3:30 so parking was very easy. I was informed that it comes medium so I ordered it a bit more well (just my preference). I had been meaning to check out Era Wine Bar because who doesn't love a good wine bar?! The wine bar is located on a corner with other restaurants and businesses. Parking can be tricky or it can be easy but that's most places in DC. If it gets too tricky you can just park in the adjacent neighborhood. I met up with a friend here for dinner. If you're coming here, just be prepared to indulge because it's not cheap. When I came, my friend and I indulged. I tried three different types of wines and all of them were quite divine. We also got multiple small plates because I'm greedy and want to try some of everything. The crostini, delicious, samosas, delicious. Just all of it. I worked there for a month.i thought the job was easy and laid back due to having Had little to no customers or business, I was hired as the second cook of a small kitchen that holds only 3 people. The dishwasher the main cook and me , little did I know they treat their business like good vibes only so you have to interact even when having a bad day they judge off your energy you give not the work . Your personality matters to them even though your job is to prepare items in the menu. The fact the business only receives 5 customers a day on a good day , they want everything perfect to them not your as the cook or customer . They believe you are not as good as you say you are in cooking if you cannot do what they can do. They don't BELIVE in training and bettering their workers beyond a certain period of employment. If you fail you fail. It's the wife who made the menu so The husband is very forgetful @ 50 years of age training you his way while being fussed at by the wife for not doing things the menu way the husband then acts like he said no such thing leaving it to look as if you're messing up . Multiple times with multiple people have this exact same thing occurred. He will argue you down that he didn't say what he just told you to do the next day during training.Owners also use home cameras for video and audio recording as spy cams for surveillance on the job everything is recorded and heard so the owners watch and work will listen in on phone conversations and the wife stays home only comes in to train they live around the corner from the establishment so majority of the time the husband just sits outside smoke a cigar not paying attention to what's going on in the kitchen. Not only is there a problem it's an AC problem in the kitchen. The prices are high as hell and not worth the money . They have an open kitchen see for yourself. Working around a leaking ac causing puddle on floors in a small space and customers come for the wine that's been sitting for years in the basement. I was let go on my off day with some made up excuse of me being late off my break 5 mins. They buy 90 sec commercial ad space on fox dc and now have no customers from the promotion and no Money to pay both workers long term but have a 5 year lease so will be open UNTIL . can't keep a cook , because they will not allow it nor anyone to be themselves only workers . They believe in speed and presentation not the taste to match the price. You are trying to impress them your whole employment rather you know it or not. I had a good experience to me I was blind sided with the firing didn't know I was "too slow" for one table orders . Or "my tardiness" was stopping or preventing anything . It just goes to show how hard up they are . You will be corrected every time you send a picture of your work for satisfaction thinking your way looks better. No sir that pisses them off . They want to be responsible for the complements and hear turning not the cooks work. It's uncomfortable to work in an environment like this one but I made it happen and soon as I started to get use to it they let me go. Good thing I have another job they made things very stressful and like I said only 3 at the most 7 orders a day . How can you mess that up if only working 6 hr shifts using first two to prep for the day. You never use what you prep so once it goes bad you will have to know and toss it if not it comes out your check or your fired either one. They believe this is how a kitchen should run. No amount of betrayal felt worst than that phone call on my off day to tell me I was being let go. After being complemented by a customer to the same man that fired me hrs later for missing 5 mins of break is insane. I didn't get a chance to correct my behavior nor explain as if they didn't care how respectful I was the whole time employed by them. I will continue to cook and provide for my family this storm will pass. read more

I visited Era Wine Bar for brunch and the space is absolutely beautiful. They have a bar area, couch style tabling, and regular table options. The staff are very friendly and inviting, and they are very knowledgeable on wine. We started off with their meat and cheese plate, and ordered a bottle of Aslina (one of my favorites). The plate was delicious with Italian meats and cheeses, focaccia bread, olives, and jam. Next we shared the crostini and fries. All of the food was good, but we really enjoyed the vibe the most. We also found out that they have a wine membership giving you access to the cellar in the basement whenever the bar is open and when they do not have a private event. This is a fairly new Black-owned business that opened in early-ish November. I went once to catch up with a friend, but I only had some wine. But I was immediately intrigued by the vibe and decor of the place. It has a grown and sexy mood to it, and it's perfect for dates. The staff are friendly and very knowledgeable of their wine selections. I discovered a new one that night thanks to them and it's top 3 favorite whites for me now -- the Falaghina. It is a drier and very unique white wine, can't really describe it outside of that. I didn't have any food that night, but I definitely enjoyed the space and vowed to return. I decided to do so with my parents for my birthday. We were going to sit outside, but the sun was going down and the temperature was dropping like a stone... AND the inside was completely empty, so we moved in! I had the pleasure of trying food this time, including lamb sliders and tandoori wings. Sidenote: the owner's wife has some Indian heritage, so there is some Indian food to add to what many would view as your standard wine bar menu. The lamb was cooked just right, and the tzatkiki and other ingredients in the sliders really set it off! The tandoori wings fell off the bone and the flavor was on POINT. Somehow I ended up having the same wine, which was as great as the first time, and my parents were really pleased with their wines too. All that being said, I hope this business continues to do well. This new wine bar is such a wonderful addition to this area and is definitely worth checking out even for those who don't live nearby. They have a very unique variety of wine that is more interesting than the typical French/Italian/California wine list, and food way beyond the standard cheese boards and flatbreads you typically find at a wine bar. The cocktail list was internationally-inspired too (amaro, tequila, cognac, and even cachaca!) but we did not try any cocktails. The decor is beautiful, lots of marble and "wine red" drapes, modern touches, and comfortable leather and upholstered seating (so hard to find in new restaurants). The food was delicious and represented a wide variety of spices and flavors, and everything went great with wine. They had small plates and appetizers, a couple of large entrees, and a few desserts. We had the dates (stuffed with goat cheese and pistachio), olives (marinated in garlic and lemon), chickpeas (stewed in tomatoes, garlic, parsley, paprika, and other spices), shrimp (in garlic chimichurri), and lamb sliders (with cucumber, onion, tzaziki). The server was so helpful in recommending wines and food. You can order wines by the glass (3 oz, 6 oz, or 9 oz pours), and there is a "shop" with a much bigger selection, where you can buy bottles to go. We were able to taste an Austrian Zweigelt Rose, South African Pinotage, Spanish Malbec, Uruguayan Tannat Blend, Turkish Selda Red, and South African Sparkling Rose. They also offer options for private events downstairs, as well a club where you can store bottles in their cellar and get discounts and access to special events such as tastings. Wanted to try out this new wine bar that was recommended to me by a friend and had a great experience. There is a very good, chill vibe and I actually felt a bit underdressed as most of the people there were in dresses or suits. A huge wine display puts a great touch on the aesthetics of the room. There's also seating outside that I'm sure will be used more when the warmer months come back around. If you are a wine drinker this is the place for you! They serve 3, 6, and 9oz glasses along with full bottles.  They have a very wide selection of wines. We even spoke with the owner who gave us a bit of history on how they came about and how business has been pretty good since they have been opened. It was a very personal and inviting experience to meet the owner. He was hard at work and we would not have known he was the owner if he had not told us. He had a very chill, cool personality and was easy to talk to. Great service overall. They have a very short menu so you should probably come just for the wine or have already eaten. I had the wings and if you like Tandoori Wings they are must try! They were so delicious and came out hot just like I like them. I did have to pay for parking during the week out front but it was only a couple bucks and worth the few dollars in my opinion. Definitely looking forward to coming back to try different wines. Visited last week and let me say-- I'm so glad to finally have a good wine bar close by. I didn't have one wine I didn't love. They have a great variety of wines and have a good amount on the by the glass menu available in 3 oz pours. The white wine (forgot the varietal) from Ridgeback Vineyards in Paarl, SA was my favorite. Soft music-- great selection, cute aesthetic. For dinner, I had the burger for my entree and the Cabernet braised mushrooms really set it off. I could have gone without the truffle fries. Potatoes lacked flavor and the Parmesan was just sitting on top. Recommend using a truffle oil for a light coat and grated Parmesan for more adherence. The cheesecake had great flavor but could have been colder. Service was impeccable. Every staff member was attentive, Samaj was our server and was great--attentive, made good recommendations, etc. Just a great experience overall. I might try the food again off the strength of the burger but I'd come here for the wine over and over again and try the charcuterie as well. read more

I stopped by Era Wine Bar in late October. I was impressed by a number of things: the ambiance - I'd call the vibe "unpretentious class." The interior decor is simple yet elegant. The front-of-house staff was dressed in casual but nice clothing in black or black & white. The music was current/upbeat and at a volume where you noticed it but could easily talk over it. the food - I liked the variety presented in the menu - seafood, beef, chicken and interesting vegetarian offerings, often with Mediterranean influenced seasonings. I only got to try the veggie flatbread and the Spanish chickpeas but both were delicious and served in average-to-large portion sizes. the service - I was dining solo on a Saturday night. It wasn't super busy but even so I wasn't expecting the high level of service and attention I received. I was seated immediately after being offered some choices of where to sit. The recommendations and answers to my questions were spot on. The front-of-house staff checked in on my from time to time but did not overwhelm me with too much attention. the wines - I'm not super knowledgable about wines, but I know what I like and, along with some guidance from my server, I was able to choose a wine that was a good accompaniment to the food I selected. The wine menu is pretty large. For some of the wines, there are options to purchase a small pour, a large pour, as well as a whole bottle. Others giving reviews in this forum have mentioned the 20% service charge that is automatically applied to the bill. I have been assured by the owners that this money is paid out to the employees. As they say in the restaurant biz these days, a tip paid on top of the service charge is not expected but always appreciated. read more

One of my new favorite places and long overdue for such a cute quaint and artsy town like Mt. Rainier. The plus is the street parking is easy on a Saturday night. Stylish mid-century modern décor. Great wine and tasty small plates. Nice crowd with a playlist that took me back to my neo-soul days at the 9:30 club. Owners really cool and nice down-to-earth people that love to see their customers enjoying the food and wine! Food favs: All the crostinis are amazing all 3 varieties Gotta have the Parmesan Fries Steak with Chimichurri. A HIT! Tandoori chicken wings were a little puny, but the flavor was amazing. Per our waiter's suggestion get a dipping sauce. Wine Favs: Whites, the Chenin Blanc crisp and flavorful Reds, The Burgundy full-bodied smooth but not overwhelming And we toured the member's seller in the basement and it was pretty cool.
