The Breakfast Club, no not the 80s movie classic, no not the nationally syndicated morning show that sold out and went corporate and Netflix, but the Black diaspora sanctuary spot in the heart of Silver Spring off of Fenton Street is where I took my mom to for a brunch on an early Friday afternoon before Mother's Day weekend. It was awesome to see the diversity of the diaspora from the African continent (East and West Africa) the Caribbean/Latin America, and America all in one safe space enjoying themselves without the performative and obnoxiousness from others I would give them that. The Billy Holliday mural and the interior design has a nice sleek, New American vibe. My problem is the service, the cost, and the food although solid, I cooked a brunch the following day myself not to brag (scrambled eggs and cheese, friend potatoes with diced green peppers and onions) that was masterful in comparison to the gingerbread style big ole French toast and fancy "scrambled eggs and cheese" this spot has. The service charge was ridiculous as my mom's bill was 70 plus bucks for just the seafood shrimp and grits which was nice, a very sweet pre-diabetic lemonade, and bread pudding that was like bougie Georgetown prices with the dominant culture. I paid 40 dollars (Hairstylist from Baby Boy!) for French toast, scrambled eggs with cheese and lemonade. The food is nice and all but nothing to die for. We came for the vibe, culture, and atmosphere also, but we do prefer the chains of Dennys and I-hop if I am not doing the cooking which is most of the time. The server would dirty mack and take a while flirting with women at the bar and playing around with staff, and I had to give a clinical gaze with my glasses and hand signal for him to return. We did ask up front about service charge and gratuity included from the beginning but they have a very Southern slow pace here that I agree with others and I am a very patient man and notice that. It can take a while to get your checks, get change, just other tasks that you would think would be handled more efficiently. The place attracts the social media crowd, with professional pictures, the glitz, the glamor the Hollywood red carpet of the DMV, but the structural integrity of the pricing, service, and experience needs to step its game up in the worst way. We certainly see this place being a bit turned up and precarious in later hours. The closest parking that is reliable enough is the Safeway garage so it is not the most convenient, where as at least Matchbox has the Wayne and Colesville garages to park at and then enter. It was nice to support the Black owned establishment but it is a 1 and done spot. Majic 102.3 put in the hype a couple of years ago, but I found the truth, no thanks, it is a performative culture that still has that ole Georgia Ave. street culture.

Mac & Cheese and Oxtail Fried Rice

We went here yesterday and had a great time! The food was so good! I had the oxtail fried rice which was seasoned well and full of flavor! The shrimp deviled eggs were well seasoned and tasty. My sisters tried the blueberry pancakes and the oxtail grits which they said were good and savory. The mac and cheese was just okay. Needed more seasoning. Looking forward to going back and trying more menu items

I've been meaning to come here for some time now because of all the raving reviews, so I'm glad I finally got a reservation! When I've tried to book a reservation in the past, every weekend time slot was booked two to three weeks out - so that shows how popular this restaurant is. While dining in, the area was pretty crowded and also very loud, so if you're looking for a quieter restaurant, this isn't really the place. I did come on a Sunday afternoon, so it may be quieter during the weekday. To start, I ordered the early morning sunrise mocktail, which was really good. I was pretty hungry this day, so I ordered their home fries to munch on before my meal came. They were okay - nothing really special. For my main meal, I ordered the seafood grits, and it was absolutely amazing. I most definitely recommend. They do not skimp when it comes to the seafood! It had lobster, crabmeat, shrimp... all of my faves. I need to return soon because there's a lot of good menu items I would love to try!

I had an amazing experience at The Breakfast Club in Downtown Silver Spring! The food was excellent, the drinks were great, and the atmosphere was energetic and welcoming. A special thank you to our server, G, who provided outstanding service throughout our visit. G was attentive, friendly, and made sure our table was well taken care of from beginning to end. I also want to recognize Antonio and Brian behind the bar. Both were professional, personable, and made fantastic drinks while keeping the energy high. Their customer service and attention to detail truly added to the overall experience. Lastly, a shoutout to Lou, the security guard, for being welcoming, professional, and helping create a safe and positive environment for guests. It's not often that every member of the team contributes to such a memorable experience, but The Breakfast Club definitely delivered. Great food, great drinks, and an exceptional staff. I highly recommend stopping by if you're in Downtown Silver Spring. I'll definitely be back!

Found this place as a lunch spot on my way to my birthday hair appt. I had to try oxtail fried rice because wow what a combination! The menu here has so many showstoppers however so I see myself returning. The dish was huge and tasty, however the oxtails weren't meaty so it felt like I was eating a lot of fat. I'm new to oxtail so not sure if I should have higher expectations? For a midweek afternoon I was surprised to see single men and women filling the small bar. Servers were helpful. Compliments to the chef & interior designer! Go, enjoy!!

Great food, champagne and pure vibes. I stopped by to have brunch for my brother birthday and the vibe was exactly right nice music selection, lively, and welcoming. The food tasted like a home cooked meal and very flavorful. Menu items: Steak eggs and potatoes Seafood fried rice Lamb chops Sautéed spinach Garlic pepper Shrimp appetizer Street parking was easy, with a few parking lots in the area . This is definitely a restaurant I will return too!

Chicken and waffles, and The Club Omelete

I had high expectations after reading some reviews and seeing the online description of this place as an "upscale" restaurant. While I did find the food to be enjoyable and the ambiance decent, I was a bit disappointed that the experience didn't quite match the upscale vibe I was hoping for. Small details like lint-filled linens, a floor in need of repairs, and sticky menus contributed to that feeling. We ordered chicken and waffles and an omelet with toast. Again, tasty, but overpriced for sure. I was also quite taken aback by the 18% gratuity already added to the bill when it arrived. They also ask for a tip, so you must be careful not to tip twice.

+ delicious French toast and chicken + food was piping hot + friendly waiter +/- good cocktails, but pricey considering they looked basic. No fancy accoutrements. +/- parking is hit or miss - sign out front indicates they close early on weekdays. Not posted on their website - bathrooms were not the best and the hallway was littered with boxes - tight seating

If I could give negative stars, I would. My gf wanted to celebrate her birthday. I was sooo excited and co-signed to this celebratory road trip. I sent my review from previous visit out to give them a snapshot of the greatness to come. Whew... the way I'll never return or promote this establishment again is insane !! We arrived for our 2pm at 1:45pm. The nice young lady at the podium stated we will be seated shortly after 2pm. I watched the table for 7 be cleaned, and set at 2:07pm. For some reason, we were sat until 2:23pm. Nevertheless, we were grateful to be sat 40 minutes later. NEXT, the table literally moved to the best of its own drum. We were greeted by Samantha who was pretty great. Sweet. Since the table was severely not leveled, someone requested assistance. Shortly after, Ms. P who was sweet as sugar previously in passing was sweet no mo. She said, and I quote... "It's just going to keep on doing this, there's nothing we can do about it right now". ... right now! Right now! Then when? We're here now ma'am. I just did an Abbott Elementary stare as I could not believe the audacity. This did not mimick the great customer service rec'd during my last visit to this place. My gf who was celebrating her birthday was so happy to be born, I sat in silence. Please believe I would have grabbed my party of 7 and left w the swiftness if it was my event, but it wasn't. Also, the fact that I could see 2-3 cloth towels under the base of the table proved that at some time, there was something that could have been done about it. Just not for our party of 7. I sat in silence for 12 minutes, and then carried on as normal as I knew this place would never ever ever see me again. Collectively, we ordered the following. Mango Lemonade - Standard. Giggle Juice - Flavorful. Tales of the Caribbean - Extremely well concocted. The Breakfast Club Chicken and Pancakes - The wings were flavored well. Cooked a little harder than necessary. The pancakes were a good size and tasty. Pork Bacon - Standard. Not crispy as requested, but still good. The Collegiate - Lack of flavor on Oxtail. Disappointing. Ate half, left the remaining food there. The Club Omelette - Plentiful, and tasty. Oxtail Fried Rice - Sent back due to temperature after receiving 10 minutes after everyone else's dishes. Extremely bland, needed seasoning. Ate less than half. Left the remaining food there. Oxtail and Grits - Underwhelmed. Needed seasoning. Certainly left more to be desired. Ate less than half. Left the remaining food there. The Breakfast Club Chicken and Waffles - Pretty good. Food 3/5 Customer Service 2/5 I can always excuse a bad kitchen day, but customer service... nah, that's intentional. No excuses! Do better The Breakfast Club !!

    Seafood & Grits, sooooo good!

Have eaten here once to dine in and 3 times to go. All great experiences ! First thing, parking can be a bit challenging so allow yourself a few minutes if you have reservations. I was lucky enough to find street parking right in front of the restaurant ! The ambience is beautiful with beautiful art and jazz vibes. Service was good. Our server was very attentive and answered all our questions. The food is soulful and full of flavor ! Their Mac and cheese is cheesy, gooey, and decadent! Everything you'd want from a Mac's and cheese. Their shrimp and grits are also divine. So much flavor and love in that dish. My friend had the oxtail hash. She let me try it and It was very tasty. Tender and flavorful. I have not tried any other dishes yet, but I keep ordering their mac and cheese to go! Never disappoints. Would definitely go back!

The breakfast club was like my right hand my entire pregnancy and has remained a warm favorite postpartum. I have had just about everything on the menu lol and I have never been disappointed. My favorite dishes: Seafood fried rice- the mild is spicy so if you aren't one who does spice well, Id opt out, I love it. The plain is just as good! But it is LOADED with seafood. It's worth the price and full of flavor! Seafood and oxtail grits, CHEFS KISS. The fenton street wings The donut ice cream and sandwich is something to write home about weekly, think warm skinny brioche donut with just the right amount if caramel and vanilla ice cream. I literally could have it once a week whew. Im not a dessert girl but THIS, is IT.

We met up next door and decided to come here to grub. Even in the afternoon this place had a nice crowd, lucky for us the bar was empty. It was my first time, and man... they do have a nice selection of bites! I was off-put by their 3 appetizers costing ~$20 each... my word. 6 wings, $20! At least give us 8 for an almost entree price point. Anyways, we ordered the Fenton street wings, oxtail & grits, and breakfast club burger. The wings were fried well how I like them, sweet and savory. We had ranch and blue cheese on the side. The burger was decent, it was not medium as asked and she said it could use a little more seasoning but overall satisfactory. The grits were cooked well, pretty smooth. The oxtail was really fatty, didn't have much meat and the meat was chewy/tough. I liked the dish concept as I'm a big fan of shrimp & grits and the gravy that comes with that. The service was just OK, the crew was nice and friendly. I would return to try some other items

Hubby and I came here for brunch on a Sunday with another couple of friends. Hubby ordered their vanilla bean French toast and I ordered their omelette with added lobster. Balance came out to approximately $54. What's hot - Quality. Excellent. My omelette was delicious. It had a good amount of fillings of vegetables, and the additional lobster I ordered. No skimping. The sauce on the omelette had a wonderful kick, similar to Cajun with a very slightly spicy kick. It went nicely with everything. My husband's French toast was thick and substantive. Our friend's chocolate chip pancakes were good. She said it had whipped cream, rather than a slab of butter on top of her pancakes, which she preferred. Her husband's fried chicken was tender and not overly battered. - Location. Fairly easy to find with many other businesses on the area. Convenient. - Automatic gratuity. There's an 18% service charge included in every balance, which is listed on the bottom of their menu. I appreciate that it's disclosed on their menu, rather than surprised on us at the time we pay our tab. What's not - Service. Lacking. First, the other couple who was with us ended up getting their orders first. Nothing wrong with that. The orders for my husband and I came out well over 10 minutes later. We had to ask for an update on our orders, while we were waiting, and no one provided us with one. Second, when the host seated us, he told us there is a 90 minute seating time. He didn't explain to us what that meant. I asked the waiter who took our order what that meant. Specifically, I asked him if we'll get kicked out if we take more than 90 minutes, to which he responded no, and he did not know anything about a 90 minute seating time. Not customer service friendly. - Pictures. They have a staffer going around and taking pictures of diners. I asked the gentleman if he was taking pictures for their website. Turns out he returns with the pictures framed and tries charging you $20 for each picture. Had we known of this, we wouldn't have taken the pictures to begin with. This type of activity should be disclosed in the beginning, rather than asking us to take pictures without knowing the purpose. - Acoustics. Terrible. First, they play music really loudly- too loud to carry a conversation even with a small table of 4. Second, around noon, they had a live singer, who had difficulty managing her sound with the speaker. That meant her speaker kept going in and out with static noise. Everything was so loud. This is a restaurant, not a bar, club, or lounge. I did not come for the sound, but for sharing good food with others and have a conversation. The ambiance and acoustics do not allow for that. - Parking. There is parking in the area, which is a combination of paid and unpaid. - Credit card charge. To be fair, the credit charge is listed on the bottom of their menu. However, be aware there is a 3% additional charge if you use a credit card. - Price. Value for food is excellent value, but in combination with the aforementioned negatives, not good value for money. Final answer Given the service and ambiance/acoustics, do not plan on returning, nor would I recommend.

Waitstaff was professional and helpful. We first ordered drinks, then starters. We ordered entrées after drinks and starters arrived for good pacing. Several of us shared a Skyfall Cabernet Sauvignon. It was smooth and fruity. We shared pimento cheese dip with veggies and bread triangles, bread basket, burrata and spiced cauliflower. All were excellent, Star was the burrata, so creamy and had pesto with it. My entree was a prosciutto sandwich with fig spread. The sandwich was on ciabatta bread. It held the sweet fig spread, savory prosciutto and soft Brie . Very filling and yummy, and came with crisp fries. Everyone loved their food. Some had dessert and coffee afterwards which was also top notch.

My cousin and bestie were in town and wanted a true DC brunch/day party vibe, so we gave it a shot and overall, it was a good time. When we arrived, we ordered mimosa pitchers and were directed straight to the buffet. The food spread was huge: waffles, pancakes, French toast, made-to-order omelets, chicken sausage, pork sausage, bacon, fried chicken, jerk chicken, shrimp, grits, collard greens, mac & cheese, breakfast potatoes, salmon, fresh fruit, and more than I can even remember. The variety was definitely a highlight. I wish they had real food utensils instead of plastic. The mimosas, however, were very juice-heavy and pretty weak . We ended up switching to bottle service so we could enjoy real champagne, which was much better. The absolute best part of the experience was our server, Noah kind, attentive, friendly, and fine AF . She made sure our drinks stayed flowing and kept us informed about our table time so there were no surprises. Top-tier service. The space itself is large with two levels. We initially thought we'd be seated downstairs, but due to a private event, we were directed upstairs. You pre-pay for the food at the door before being seated, while drinks are paid for at the table. Hookah is also available for an additional cost. Overall, I'd definitely go back especially on a Sunday when I don't have work the next day. It's a fun spot for the 30-something crowd looking for good food, music, and a lively day party atmosphere.

C&C oozes so much potential but fails to deliver in the atmosphere and vibes here. The architecture…read moreand interior design are immaculate and awesome which means the establishment has the bones to truly complete and stand itself out as a premier spot, however the limited menu, pedestrian service, shared co-ed restroom (which is a dangerous concept, that I do not like and certainly pushes against social norms and boundaries) and the VERY loud music where you cannot have a fun lively dinner without it being too extreme. I think if the music was turned down, menu expanded, and separate restrooms for genders, then the place would be a more memorable experience. The server was a nice young man, but he would piece things like me having to verbally ask him for utensils, straws, napkins, and other items that we needed, instead of him providing the basic essentials up front, taking the initiative to ask us in advance or even suggest that since he brought napkins how about straws etc., having more hustle and a proactive approach goes a long ways. The door man and the server were nonchalant here, for a place blasting Nelly at 100 plus decibels, we do want the staff to have a little energy. The music upstairs and downstairs are also different, and you can hear the music thumping at the garage about to leave. I think this place is at the top of the noise ordinance downtown Silver Spring. We struggled to find menu items (There was some item online I think burger that was not on the current menu, so the updates need to be reflected online.) We enjoyed our grilled chicken sandwiches with avocado, lettuce, tomatoes etc. but there needs to be more of a hybrid approach here if the owner wants to maximize business potential. The club and lounge era is dying especially with Millennials and Gen Z globally. There should be the quieter restaurant vibe that might have live events like comedy shows (Hire local Huggy Lowdown to work down here) or music performances etc. (Hello Marcus Johnson another local) I think having live events here occasionally will provide the energy better than blasting music that will crack you and your dog's eardrums with your dog sitting outside of the establishment as I don't think Fido needs to be sitting at the table eating and drinking with me like some folks think. Del the Funky Homosapien "It's important to practice good hygiene, at least if you wanna run with my team!" All in all, let's not have it too clubby, let's scrap the shared restrooms, let's have more professional, welcoming, inviting service, and this is a rough gem in the making if major structural changes and updates are made and they step their game up, they have the foundation and bones but need to carve it out a bit more and polish the rock!

I am not a true seafood lover as there are very few seafood items I eat but needless to say my husband couldn't say enough positive things about the catfish and grits and the other couple we were with absolutely loved that they got their calypso sauce on the side because then they got to enjoy the flavor and crispiness of the fish. The one crabcake on the Chesapeake Crabcake meal was very flavorful and I enjoyed it. Their food was very good. The prices weren't too bad but you also got a lot of food for the price. We had leftovers which was nice!

We had a large party, so I had the anticipation that the service might be delayed, however it wasn't too bad. The seafood and grits were DELICIOUS! We ordered all of the favorites, and high were flavorful however the lamb chops were a disappointment. I ordered it to be served medium but even with a reorder, it was still well done. Drinks were as expected, nothing to write home about however I would visit again. Maybe for a happy hour timeframe.

Visited last night to celebrate a few things…read more I have to start with the best part of our experience. Staff ( i wish I got their names at the front) were so pleasant! Alex, our server was AMAZING!!! please ask for him every time! We initially wanted to be at the bar but it was packed! We ended up in a private style booth in the back. The booth offers curtains and the ability to adjust your lighting and music.... lovely bonus. We ordered a lot: Shrimp Cocoktail -9 Crab balls - 9 (wish they were more or bigger...comes with 5) Steak Frites - 8 Chicken - 8 (didnt care the root vegetables but the flavor, overall, was great) Scallops - 7 (great flavor, some were under. The bed of spring vegetables could have been spinach instead...?) Complimentary birthday cake 10...amazing!! We also got a few drinks that I cant rate, but my friends said were great! Will absolutely be back again! ALEX is wonderful and the food is consistently amazing. Kudos to the Chefs !!!

The staff as always is great! They have an all night happy hour at the bar only and the drinks were as I remembered. During the happy hour I stick to the classic martini offerings. My go to is the lemon drop. Love it! Unfortunately the happy hour food offerings were not as I remembered. I appreciate the staff because anything we did not like they took back and removed it from the tab. I did enjoy the wings though. If you are looking for a place to meet a friend for a drink at happy hour I would say come but maybe not focus on the bar bites. Again this review is only for their happy hour. I went this time on a Tuesday and it was not as crowded that night but I know sometimes happy hour can be packed and it's only offered in the bar area.
