Love this place. Burger deal on Mondays is awesome and they have a great happy hour I think everyday till 630pm. They also allow kids until 8pm. The stairwell is a little steep but manageable. Best dive bar in the area. Awesome beer selection and I've never had bad food from here. Service is great too. It's actually pretty big space wise. I don't remember seeing a changing table in the bathroom (not that it's catering to that crowd but just an FYI). read more

I am always skeptical about so-called "dive bars" in the DMV because I have been let down many times, but this place was legit. We sat at the bar and were given menus and waters quickly. Our bartender was super friendly and quick overall. They have an awesome beer list! So plenty of options on that front. I had an Earl grey and lemon sour that was fantastic. Im not a whiskey drinker, but they also have an extensive selection of whiskeys. For food, I ordered the Pueblo road burger and upgraded to tater tots. The tots were nice and crispy (but not overcooked) with the perfect amount of salt. A classic, but done well. The burger was phenomenal, though. The burger itself was cooked perfectly, clearly was made of quality meat, and was seasoned to perfection. So many places rely on the toppings to do all the work flavor-wise, but the toppings instead just enhanced the solid foundation of a great patty. The bun was also good quality, though it did get pretty messy. I would come back here for the burger alone, but the overall vibe was also great and was a perfect chill spot. I came here after visiting my friend who opening a yoga studio nearby. She raved about the burgers so we were excited to try them. Unfortunately we got there too late for the burgers so they had their late night menu. I ended up getting wings and they hit the spot. I got the Thai chilly wings and they were crispy and hot. Of all the years of me going to Silver Spring I've never heard of this place. It's one of those spots that IYKYK I guess. The energy in this place is off. If you enjoy random sketchy people coming up to you uninvited, this might be your spot. The service was mediocre at best (Except for one server Conni, she was pretty sweet), and the food honestly felt questionable--I didn't feel great about eating there, which says a lot. I know it's a dive bar, but basic cleanliness shouldn't be optional. I'll give credit where it's due: the decor is actually pretty cool and has character. Unfortunately, that's about the only redeeming quality. There also seemed to be a lot of underage-looking drinking going on, which added to the uncomfortable atmosphere. I kind of loved everything about QHT. My friends kept calling it a dive bar but I feel like it's so much more, it's what every dive bar WISHES they could be. Sure, there's the dim lighting, basement setting, laidback vibe. But there's also a fantastic menu for both beer and food, super friendly service, and a space for live music (which I am definitely coming back for). I had such a nice time here with my friends, and it's the kind of place that would be great for a date or for a solo night out too. I'm withholding one star for now because they were out of the New Trail stout that I was thrilled to see on the menu, but when I come back for a show, maybe that will make it worth an update. read more

The Quarry House is a DMV institution. They have great burgers, great tots, a great atmosphere, great events like trivia and live music, great beers, and a great happy hour. Service is friendly and straightforward. Everyone should visit at least once. On a recent visit, I got the bacon and cheddar burger ($14) with tots ($2), a Peabody Heights Old Oriole Park pilsner ($3.67), and an ESB ($6 ish on happy hour). The burger and tots were perfectly cooked and delicious. The beers also reasonably priced and tasty. The Quarry House is in a basement and is a dive bar with tons of character. I have a feeling that this will be my go-to place for burgers with a side of adult beverages in a chill environment. If you are a beer lover, Quarry House Tavern definitely is the place for you. OMG! The beer menu is HUGE and has a wide variety of beers in its curriculum vitae or BV (a nice play on the term, CV). The vibe of Quarry House gives the epitome of dive bar - dark, interesting smells, bathroom graffiti, low-key, jukebox 'soundtrack', out of the cut, no frills, and keeping it real. At 1st I have to admit that I thought the two bartenders were kind too cool for school; however, they are very nice and engaging with the bar's clientele. Also, their service is efficient and prompt. If you have any questions about Quarry House's interesting cocktails, they will definitely give you some great suggestions. While I've visited Quarry House on two separate occasions, I hope that there are many visits in my future. My short-term goal is to visit enough times, to try all of of the tavern's burgers. read more

I went here a couple of times for happy hour and it really blew me away the second time!! The first time, I ordered an old fashioned and some tots. The drink was great, the tots were alright. After seeing posts about how great their burgers are in this area, I wanted to get a taste at what I was missing out on. I didn't order a burger but I did order their sliders. I was absolutely FLOORED!! It's been so long since I had great sliders, I honestly don't remember the last time I did. Next time I come to this place, I'm absolutely getting a burger because I know that it's gonna be a banger! The service was great on both days and everyone was pretty friendly. I love how the place looks. Something about it feels so rustic and authentic. Ask for their whiskey options and you'll spend the whole night going through the menu. Ask for the beer options, you'll be handed a book. Love the Friday nights for the live music. It was my staple for many years, even if for 30 mins. Probably brought all my friends who visited me when I was staying in DTown SS. It was also a great first date place. Tater tots was a must along with their regular burgers (without cheese). I'm a fan of the QH. It's a great dive bar in the heart of Silver Spring. A hidden staircase takes you in to one of the best dive bars in the DMV. A great selection of local beers and an extensive liquor list. The menu is limited mostly burgers and appetizers. They have a great daily happy hour. Our waiter Tom was fantastic. Trivia night is fun and not to serious. I would give it 5 stars but their policy regarding checks for tables over 6 is not good. Instead of letting you split out the check or do individual checks. They say they can run credit cards if you evenly divide the check. WTH? Why should someone who has a meal an appetizer and no alcohol have to potentially pay for someone's 6 beers. I recommend you bring a bit of cash to avoid this situation which put a damper on a fun night. read more

It's hard to find a good burger, let a lone a good burger that gets delivered warm and tasty but Quarry House Tavern delivered! Heard about this place from friends, and this is a hidden gem! Actually, we missed the entrance first as there wasn't a big sign on the stairs. The place has a good dive atmosphere, but a bit dark. The happy hour is pretty generous as you can get rail highballs for $3.95 and beers for $2-3. The cocktails were pretty strong and good. The foods were also solid. The hamburger was perfectly medium-rare, juicy, and tasty. The pretzel was buttery and soft, which I really enjoyed. Buffalo cauliflower was savory and balanced. After the meal, we also got a stout brownie with ice cream. I didn't taste much stout, but the brownie was warm, melty, and perfectly matched with ice cream. The service was efficient and friendly. I need to update my review now that my wife and I have become regulars and we love their best beer selection in town as well as their food. Definitely a major upgrade back in their original spot after the fire put them across the street shortly before I moved to Silver Spring. We even came here the night of the wedding since we love this place so much. My wife also took her sister, her bridesmaid, for a mini-bachelorette party the night before while my cousins, our friends, and myself were across the street at Astro Lab. Their burgers, wings, and chicken sandwiches are amazing as well as their appetizers. They also had a temporary barbecue menu along with a whisky flight during Washington Restaurant Week that was a hit and a great deal. We do miss their hot dogs during happy hour but they have made improvements since the pandemic. They even had an outdoor "camp" during the worst of COVID. Only thing we wish they had was an elevator to go downstairs as I'm slightly mobility impaired and many in Downtown Silver Spring use wheelchairs. Another good solution would be to have outdoor wedding for those with mobility issues as well as those who prefer to eat outdoors. Overall, we are so glad this place continues to thrive despite the fire and the pandemic. read more

Quarry House continues to be an awesome spot. It's fairly easy to locate from the street, as you will always see someone standing outside to check ID's. You then have to go down the steps and into the bar. You'd be surprised at how big it is in there! I've come several times and had drinks with buddies and snacked on the tater tots... why are those tater tots so good?!?! I've come on quiet nights, I've come on loud nights... surprisingly I haven't encountered live music yet. The only thing that's really changed is the decrease in accessible parking for the place. With that construction going on it can be trickier right on Bonifant, especially during peak times. read more

I've lived near DTSS for almost 5 years now and this is the first establishment I walked into which was playing a non radio version of a Grateful Dead song, specifically Brokedown Palace. Off to an interesting start. The premise of this bar screams DIVE DIVE DIVE but the VIBE is like a warm blanket over the shoulders next to a fireplace with a fine bourbon, beer and burger, with warm music and good cheer. I can't believe it took me this long to check this spot out being that my barber is three doors away and I've past this place a zillion times over. lol Quarry House Tavern is known for quick bar eats and burgers that reign supreme here! The draft beer list of about a dozen and rotates seasonally. There's a ton of bourdon selections to choose from too. As mentioned earlier, the Burgers are the star here and the wings too. The tater tots are damn good as well. The secret? They set the deep fryer temp high which makes the fried foods crisp and not greasy. Vegan options are available and also tasty. Interesting seasonal offerings keep the menu dynamic and the regulars coming back for more Service is great, prompt and efficient.....yet personable, friendly and welcoming here. In a sentence, Quarry House is a beloved dive bar with great food and an impressive beer and whiskey selection. Of course, most things and even some people contain multitudes that one sentence can't capture, so it's also a lot more than that. It's also a vibe, from the killer jukebox (which was playing Jonathan Richman, Le Tigre, Fugazi, the English Beat, Bad Religion, etc. last night), the random stickers/dollar bills affixed to the rafters, and the helpful, cool staff. The beer selection is well-curated with tons of local options (Cushwa, Burnish, Brookeville Beer Farm) and more classic Belgian, etc. options on draft and in bottles/cans. Lots of different styles and ABV, too, from a light 3% English mild to a 13% Belgian quad, with many hoppy (and a First State sour) in between. The whiskey list is lengthy as well, with several hundred bottles to choose from. The food's worth a trip by itself, especially the burgers, which often pop up on Eater/Thrillist sorts of best of lists. I had the Chophouse, which is a pepper crusted patty with arugula, Gorgonzola, perfectly cooked crispy bacon, and garlic aioli, plus a side of their tots. The tots were nicely fried and super crispy, and the burger was rich, unctuous, and delicious. If the 5/5 isn't clear enough, this is a great spot well worth a trip (or, more accurately, many trips). read more
