Great neighborhood bar.

Super friendly bartender, good selection of beers on tap. Seems like the whole neighborhood was there. Good country music on the speakers,

Barking Dog Hot Dog (sauerkraut and mustard) and old bay chips

Visited The Barking Dog for dinner on a Tuesday night. Took a spot at the bar with the big screens on Premier League soccer and college basketball tournaments. The bar was busy but most of the restaurant section and outdoor were wide open. The bartender quickly got my drink order (I had a tasty local red ale) and, shortly following, my dinner. I had the Barking Dog Hot Dog which had a mound of sauerkraut with mustard underneath on a really soft hoagie roll. The hot dog was very good. Plenty filling. The star of the plate was the housemade Old Bay chips. They were great plain and even better dipped in a bit of ranch. Another beer later (Barking Dog's amber this time) and I was a happy customer. Thanks Barking Dog!

Buffalo Chicken Wrap

Really like this place, great fun atmosphere for sports games and I think their food is a lot better than other sports bars. I really enjoy the chicken tenders as well as a few other things I've enjoyed here, like the buffalo chicken wrap (see picture). Great place to hang out with your friends too.

Located steps from Bethesda row, the Barking Dog has a mix of a college and dive bar feel. You can tell it's been in the neighborhood for a while but we stumbled upon it while exploring a few local areas with happy hour. On a Thursday evening, the bar was not very busy and we were attended to almost immediately taking a seat at the bar section. The food is a selection of your typical bar food, and the happy hour options seemed standard for the area, but I thought the prices were pretty decent. I had a few simple tequila cocktails, and hubby got a couple of simple whisky cocktails. The Buffalo rings were hot and tasty, but also similar to others we've had. We enjoyed the service, menu options, and comfy ambiance. I would say that there weren't a lot of ladies when I stopped by, but it could have just been the time of the day (pretty random).

Popular spot in Bethesda. Great service, great food and a great crowd. You never know who you will see there. They have an area upstairs that you can reserve for private events.

The establishment itself is pretty enough where that can be ignored, but maybe she shouldn't be the first face people see. Who knows. Our waitress was a sweetheart though! Now let's get to the good stuff. The drinks were average, the bites a little above. We ordered crab dip, wings, and fish sticks. The wings were a 4/5, could use a little more marinating (flavor didn't reach the bone but tasted good with ranch), the fish sticks had an odd aftertaste and I actually liked the crab dip. Here's my BBT (Big Back Tip): take the wing and dip it into the crab. I promise you won't be disappointed! Marinade where, I no longer cared about flavor reaching the bone. That was heaven. If you're into creamy seafood and chicken combined, you will LOVE it! The interior is trendy and oh so pretty, I would love to come back for an evening! Last time we came midday, so I can imagine it coming to life later on. They might have a different bartender and host as well. Only reason I'm rating 3 stars is because the food needed another item to taste amazing and the drinks weren't fabulous. They weren't bad, just meh. I'm not a regular drinker (maybe 1-3X per month, only if I'm with someone) so it needs to be worth the sip. There's street parking and a garage nearby. It's Bethesda, so plan accordingly. Enjoy!

Every other sports bar we checked was completely booked, so we were excited to find a table here. The atmosphere was fantastic! The place was packed, but it never felt disorganized. From what I could tell, they have multiple levels, including a rooftop, and there was a great energy throughout the restaurant. One of the highlights was an older gentleman (I'm guessing the owner or manager) who really helped create a fun environment. He walked around with a megaphone, interacting with guests, giving away small prizes like hats, bottle openers, koozies, and other giveaways. He even took a moment to thank everyone for coming and reminded guests to take care of the servers, which I thought was a nice touch. Speaking of the servers--they were amazing. Even with a full house, service was fast, friendly, and efficient. Food came out surprisingly quickly, drinks stayed flowing, and our server never made us feel forgotten despite how busy it was. I ordered the chicken tacos, which were good I, and everyone at our table enjoyed their meals. My daughter absolutely loved her apple pie à la mode and cleaned the plate! My only complaint is that, for a sports bar, the TVs could definitely use an upgrade. Some of the screens were fairly small, a few weren't very clear, and one even had visible lines running through the picture. Since people are coming specifically to watch games, better screens would really elevate the experience. Parking ended up being easy since it was a Sunday. The nearby garage was free, and I was lucky enough to find street parking directly across from the restaurant. Overall, this was a fun place to catch a big game. Great atmosphere, excellent service, good food, and I'd absolutely come back for another sporting event.

This place was hopping - loud, and vibrant, and by the time we left, it was packed. Special thumbs up for the Honey Glazed Shrimp Tacos - perfectly cooked shrimp with a glaze that added sweetness and spice but didn't overpower the taco. A perfect size bite for happy hour. I'd never have guessed 'spicy' (at a Mexican restaurant) is a $2 up-charge!! Only found out when I got the bill. And yes, I did mention it but nada. A heads up that asking for your Bloody Mary'spicy' will cost you $2 extra would've been nice. I also didn't appreciate the $14 guac that came w less than enough chips to finish the dip, but ordering "extra" chips are an extra cost. (free for the table with salsa at other Mexican restaurants). Anyways, I caveat this by saying photos online tell a different story, but it wasn't how ours came. My wife ordered 2 tacos for $14, no sides or anything else included, meh. If you end up going, their drinks are probably the best part of the place, but don't deviate without confirming you're not adding a hidden cost. Also, ration your chip/dip ratio, unless you're ok with spending more than $14 on a one avocado guacamole. Other than that the food was ok, our waitress was good (except for not telling me about a charge), but the nickel/dime policies aren't the best. It just left a bad taste.

Our server Danny was phenomenal, definitely on my list of top 10 servers I've ever had. It's really the little things that add to your experience and just make it hit 10x more. For example when I asked for straws he wrapped the naked straws in napkins before handing it to each of us. He was so attentive and kind and helpful - I love it. They treated our group to the beignets - fresh out of the fryer - 10/10!!!! Highly recommend. I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich (w no bacon) with the duck fat french fries - amazing. The chicken was a little dry but it help that it was super thin. The fries were gassss, so so addicting. I also ordered a can I call you rose to pair with my food. It was delicious. While my family and friends did bottomless mimosas and bloody mary. They also ordered the chicken and waffles and then the french toast. They enjoyed both but same critique for the chicken - unfortunately dryyy. Overall, good food and good people always make your chest warm and really enjoyed my experience here and I will come back to try other items!

There were none inside but we were seated outside on the sidewalk. It was an okay location, good people watching. The staff there is better trained the previous location. The beer was cold and my wife's cosmo was ridiculously small but to the credit of our server he brought it up first and gave her a full drink at no charge. The bread they provided is excellent, nice crust, fluffy inside accompanied by a nice soft butter. I ordered the grilled oysters. They were excellent, plump oysters with a nice topping. The mussels came out with the frites. Generous servings of both. The mussels were cooked perfectly. We had the mediterranean style. The frites were perfect. All along the service by "shahid" was excellent as was our encounters with all the staff. The only downside is it is expensive but one must consider the location in Bethesda and the effort it takes to provide this level of service so it is still a value. I would go again.

For DC summer restaurant week they have one of the best value lunches - still at $25/pp for three courses when just about all the other restaurants have raised prices. However the reason for the one star rating is I just checked my credit card statement and discovered that the restaurant has overcharged me by more than $100 (I suppose adding a "1" in front of the amount authorized on the CC slip might be an accident but the entire amount was altered). This had never happened at any other restaurants before so is very shocking. Not sure if this is a sloppy mistake or something done on a regular basis, either way it doesn't speak well for the restaurant. So if you are paying by credit card here you need to check you CC statement to make sure the authorized amount is not inflated.

I've had this review in DRAFT for a while, to allow time for rumination as to the final rating…read more.. On the one hand, there are some very positive aspects to Beth's, situated in downtown about a 10 min walk from the Bethesda Metro Station. Turn off Old Georgetown Road onto Fairmont Ave, and the first thing you encounter is a beautiful outdoor patio for al fresco dining and a large bar. The colors are vibrant with a focus on Southwestern earth tones; very reminiscent of a cafe you'd find in Sedona. It was still on the chilly side when my dinner group gathered, so we opted to sit indoors. There is a small waiting area in the foyer, and then a moderately sized bar, which leads into the main dining room. TBH, the design asthetic of the space is a bit of a "mishmash." Is it supposed to be European inspired? A continuation of the Southwestern motif? It's all a bit odd... We had about eight in the party, so staff pushed together two tables for us. We were greeted promptly and were told that the restaurant could accomodate individual checks, as ordering is done with handheld devices. My other observation about Beth's is, I'm not quite sure what "story," the place is trying to tell. The menu focuses on "Bites," which could be interpreted as "appetizers" and only has four "plates," aka "entrees." Our server mentioned while awaiting our orders that Beth's wants diners to share the "Bites" with a spotlight on their cocktail selections. So is Beth's trying to be a tapas bar then? I opted for the recommended Purple Rain which consists of Gin, lavender, lime; mostly because I LOVE a nice herbal Gin. The distinctive flavor of juniper berries from the gin was present, while the floral notes from the lavendar and citrus of the lime balanced out the drink. I was pleasantly surprised. Food started arriving after about 20 min, and visually the barley risotto was quite appealing. Instead of short or medium grain rice, Beth's uses the ancient cereal grain barley. It is slow cooked in stock to produce that slightly chewy, yet not undercooked mouth feel. USDA choice braised beef short ribs was stewed until fork tender, and the dish was finished off with Parmigiano Reggiano, and butter. For $24, the plate was a good portion size and very tasty. I dunno. I sampled some of the small plates such as the Brussel Sprouts, crunchy ravioli, crispy spring roll...and everything was fine. Not outstanding...not terrible...but just fine. The kitchen seems to be competent, so it would be interesting to see a menu where more main dishes were offered for diners who want a more substantial meal. The other thing I'll note is, due to the extremely high ceilings, the main dining space is a deafening echo chamber. I was hoarse by evening's end, since I was literally yelling over not just the background music, but the other nearby diners. Just keep this in mind that if you're seeking a quiet and cozy spot, either dine outdoors or come early. After some reflection, I settle on 4 stars. Service was good with water glasses constantly refilled, dirty dishes removed, to-go boxes offered, and the ability for separate billing. Price wise, for one alcoholic beverage, and one entree my tab with tax and tip came to a bit over $50. Automatic gratuity was added for the table since we had over 5 people. I appreciate the server informing us so we didn't "double tip."

I finally made it to Beth's and honestly had mixed feelings about the experience. The food was…read moregood enough that I really wanted to love the restaurant overall. The egg rolls were perfectly fried and delicious with the homemade sauce, and the fries were crispy on the outside while still moist inside. Trey was also a great server and definitely one of the highlights of the visit. The restaurant itself is beautiful, especially the outdoor seating area. The patio is bright, inviting, and honestly a much better atmosphere than the inside dining space. Unfortunately, the music inside completely took away from the experience for me. The restaurant has a dark/lounge-style vibe indoors, so the music really matters. Something more universal and upbeat like Motown, 80's pop, or feel-good music would match the space so much better. Instead, the playlist was loud, distracting, and honestly made me ready to eat and leave. I was also surprised that there was no happy hour offered, especially with such a great outdoor setup that seems perfect for after-work drinks and appetizers. Overall, the food and service (thank you Trey) were solid, but the atmosphere inside and lack of happy hour would probably keep me from returning regularly.
