Five Stars for New Big Wong! The food here was absolutely amazing! We ordered the combination fried rice with chicken and double shrimp, the mild General Tso shrimp, and the General Tso chicken. Everything came out piping hot, just the way I like it, and you could really tell how fresh the ingredients were. Our server, Oscar, was fantastic and took great care of us. In addition to the excellent food and service, the entire restaurant and restrooms were spotlessly clean. It was moderately crowded, which gave it a great, lively energy without feeling overwhelming. I've ordered from here several times since I moved to PG county February 2025, but keep forgetting to make a review and take pictures of what I ordered. I love me some fried rice just like everyone else, but decided to try some lo mein and the combination when came with shrimp, chicken, and beef. I always make it spicy because that how I like it! Just so I have some veggies I ordered a side of edamame. Now the prices are not cheap and I can't say it's only because I ordered from door dash or Grubhub. We know for connivence prices on these sites are more expensive. Maybe one day I'll take a stroll into DC to check out the place. I just hope it doesn't disappoint and makes me not want to order from them again. It was cinco de mayo so the service was very slow over an hour to get our food. But when it finally arrived it was surprisingly still warm enough for me to dig in to check out the flavor. It was some good lo mein not too greasy and has enough of all three proteins. What I wish they would have added more veggies and a tad bit more garlic and spice. But other than that it was a good amount of food. One of my favorite Chinese Food places is called Fortune China located in Owings Mills. Naturally as someone living in the DC Metro I simply can't justify venturing off to Baltimore County for Chinese food. As I hunt for great Chinese I stumbled upon New Big Wong and I gotta say it's up there for best Chinese in DC Metro. I always judge a Chinese food place by their portions and beef and broccoli (my go to dish) but I also tried the dumplings, egg rolls, and crab rangoons. The crab rangoons are huge and while I wish there was a little bit more crab they were a great side dish. The egg rolls wee massive and I enjoyed the fillings, the dumplings were great! Well seasoned. The beef and broccoli was solid. Not better than Fortune China but not terrible! Overall would try this place again. read more

The only thing close to good was the lo mein. The general tso chick was over cooked and the sweet and sour pork was overly braised with the pork having a very bad taste. New Big Wong was a total surprise for me as I was just wanting to find something quick to eat in DC Chinatown. Well looks can be decieving as this is tucked away in a downstairs basement front. Open entering in, there are many tables for you to sit down on, and generally you are served water and the menu right away. If you like chinese food, then you know what to expect here. I wanted something simple, so I got dumplings and chicken fried rice. Their fried dumplings are more of the same fare you get anywhere else. It's greasy, it's savory, and it'll keep your stomach happy. Just make sure to dip it with soy sauce. The chicken fried rice was gigantic when it came out. I think it's more of a family style dish to share with, but of course knowing me that's not something I can accomplish eating on my own. The fried rice was perfect, I don't really have much to say is, I wonder how it'd fare if I went during late night hours instead. This is a solid place to check out. Small, lowkey & nothing fancy but packs a mighty punch on their dishes! Hidden, in the basement of a chinatown business front...is New Big Wong. It's been around in downtown DC like forever! Be careful when driving are looking for this place because .... one blank of an eye while driving down the H Street Chinatown area, you might miss it. It's just that in assuming... especially at night. lol. The food is delicious and the prices are very good. The portions are big here too..... not to mention the meats & vegetables used are always fresh. My go to and one dish that is always on realest and that this restaurant is famous for is the "Dry Scallop Fried Rice" dish! It's one of the best. It comes in one size and is loaded with shrimp scallops crab meat ....& lot of flavor! The Peking Duck dish is another favorite of mine from this restaurant as well. On any given day, you will find the restaurant pretty crowded which is a good sign, but both carryout and dine in available if ever in the area. This restaurant tends to get a lot of Uber eats DoorDash orders I noticed as well. I definitely recommend if you're looking for authentic Cantonese cuisine and good Hong Kong fare..... that is on an American-Asian carryout vibe ..... This is your place! Do not sleep on the noodle soups. The portion was incredibly generous and diverse in their seafoods. I got gigantic scallops and just poached shrimp. This was a takeout order, but the noodles were just par cooked so that by the time it reached me they were still separated and bouncy. They did not skimp on the bok choy so it felt super healing to have in the colder months. And the broth was golden, clear, and incredibly umami. The delicate seafood flavor really carries this dish, and the fragrance of the white pepper really shines through. I love a classic noodle soup like this. Everything must have had tablespoons if msg, because I drank gallons of water when I got home, but it stands for make stuff good. It's not the best, it's not the worst. Before the lady ran over I gave my information to the guy in the back and then got my order. My shrimp egg foo young was full of shrimp, and it came with a separate large container of brown gravy -- perfect! I also had a couple of the crabmeat fried wontons, and they were very yummy. The others had General Tso's Chicken, Orange Chicken, and Cashew Chicken. All greatly enjoyed their choices. We also appreciated that we could easily opt for fried rice versus white with each order. Ambiance - Basic and no-frills, with a location right next to Capitol One Arena and a divey bar scene that clearly drives much of its popularity. Absolutely terrible, despicable, and unacceptable service. My friend recommended this place because they tried it and said the food was absolutely delicious. My friend and I ordered our food at the same time, even placed the same order for combination lo mein. The only difference in the order was that I ordered a drink and he didn't. When we got there, he paid for his order, the amount matched what he was quoted online, and his food was ready right then and there as expected. When I got there right after him, the amount that they rang me up for was somehow actually more than what I was quoted online, which the online system DID include tax tip, and fees. I actually had to go back and ask the person that rang me up for an itemization of the receipt to make sure that they charged me for the correct order. It was a small difference in price so I didn't pursue it any further. I, however, became very irritated when I was quoted 11:15 for my order online to be ready, which is approximately 20 minutes from the time I ordered it. I waited an extra 30-40 minutes beyond that time for my order to be ready. The only reason my order came out was because I became fed up and asked for my money back, at which time suddenly my order finally showed up. It makes me wonder what the purpose of even ordering online was if my order was still going to take an extra 30 minutes from the time I even got there, which no one else seemed to have to wait that long. It also raises a question of whether they even had my order in the system, whether they even cooked it, and why it took an entire 30-40 minutes to make a combination lo mein. To add insult to injury, one of the people working there bumped me several times and did not say a thing and just rolled her eyes at me, which I find very disrespectful and borderline racist and discriminatory. Even my friends noticed her excessively rude demeanor. Even if the food is very good (which at the time of this review, I have not yet tried it so I can't confirm if it is) I doubt I will be back on the basis of the experience alone, which was nothing short of absolutely horrifying. read more

Anytime I'm craving greens or veggies, I know I can count on an authentic Chinese restaurant to deliver and New Big Wong definitely did! We ordered the following dishes: Chicken Corn Soup Combo Fried Rice Chicken and Green Beans Garlic Chives The dishes tasted exactly as I had expected. I have been a patron of the New Big Wong since it was BIG WONG! I moved to DC in '94 (Chicago native) and this has been the authentic Chinese food I am accustomed to eating (New York as well). I love it here! Ok, so hands down THE best beef and broccoli I've had! This dish has easily beat the B&B in place I've gotten it from in Chicago and New York! Please try the Kan Shaw Yee Mein (noodles stir-fried with beef, chicken, and shrimp) and the XO Sauce Short Ribs as they are my other "go to's" and they never disappoint! I see a few complaints about the service but I've never experienced a less than welcome environment. Even when I'd take my children in as infants (they're now 21 and 23), I got amazing service! We know it can get tough maneuvering dinner time with an infant and toddler at home so getting great services cry in a restaurant with little one is a rarity! I don't know...there's just something about an unsuspecting eatery that gives the food an extra yummy factor!
