We stumbled on this place looking for a simple place to grab a meal. This has to be the best chicken I have had in years. They are fast and the food is amazing. Then we found the bar in the back. Again, interesting whisky choices, you won't find those hard to find big names, but you will find a hand pick selection of some unique whisky's. The bar tender (sorry I wish I remember your name) took her time talking about so many of them and she offering me a recommendation. Great experience and chat. Don't pass this spot by! read more

An interesting concept - bar in a separate room in the back and roasted chicken in the front. The bar having karaoke and was too loud so we just had the chicken. We were both pretty hungry so my wife suggested a whole chicken. It was moist and delicious but too big for two people so we brought it home and had dinner the next night. The chicken is available as 1/4, 1/2 and whole. There are a number of sides available too as well as beer and soft drinks. read more

I have to give Chicken + Whiskey credit. It takes a special kind of arrogance to serve food that looks like this while also lecturing customers through a mandatory "fair labor fee." Let's start with the obvious. If labor matters so much, build it into the price. Every other business manages to pay employees without turning the receipt into a public relations campaign. Instead, Chicken + Whiskey wants customers to admire them for charging extra after the fact. As for the food, the chicken looked less "wood fired" and more "insurance claim." One piece was so aggressively charred it appeared to have entered the atmosphere and returned. The sides were forgettable, the presentation was indistinguishable from a middle school cafeteria tray, and absolutely nothing on the table justified the premium pricing. The entire experience feels engineered by a marketing team. Keep the menu prices looking lower than reality. Add surprise fees later. Call them something noble. Hope nobody notices. We noticed. The funniest part is that the restaurant seems convinced the labor fee demonstrates transparency. Real transparency would be putting the actual price on the menu. What they're doing is the restaurant equivalent of an airline advertising a cheap ticket and then charging separately for the wings. For a place so concerned with fairness, they seem remarkably comfortable being unfair about pricing. I left feeling like I'd paid admission to watch a TED Talk about compensation practices while eating chicken that looked like it had been recovered from a structure fire. The food wasn't good enough to justify the price. The price wasn't honest enough to justify the policy. The policy wasn't clever enough to justify the attitude. One star. Raise your prices. Pay your staff. Stop expecting applause for it. read more

This establishment was less than half a mile from our stay. The girl states, " I found my people!" The food was decent chicken was a little too salty for me. I don't like how they offered you sauce and didn't tell you that there was a charge for it. I don't mind the fair wage surcharge that's fine. I did read about that. After 10:45 PM there were no more black beans that was the only downside of our meal, but the chicken was tasty enough. read more

We had a plan to come here for some decent Peruvian cuisine and this restaurant fit the bill. Besides it was somewhat close to our apartment so walking here was easy. This side of town is super lively so we actually walked around for a bit before we came here to eat. I ordered the Borracho Wrap while he got the Quarter White chicken thar included 2 sides. This place is Peruvian fast food at it's finest because they did a great job preparing our food. We sat at the restaurant side, although the club side of the place would have also worked. That part of the restaurant has a totally different vibe. I wish this place also served Anticucho because that IS my all-time Peruvian food. The music was traditional salsa, the food was great, and overall vibe was very nice read more

I came to Chicken & Whiskey twice in two days, once on purpose and once by chance. Both times were after events, and I was so happy to have something casual but delicious that was still open on 14th. I had the chicken tenders with red sauce included. The first time, I had mac n' cheese as my side. The second I opted for no side. The chicken tenders are hot, crispy, and deliciously seasoned! I like this place because it doesn't necessarily feel unhealthy or heavy. The club in the back is obviously a cool spot with lots of fun dancing and drinks. I'll be back! read more

Color me surprised when I've visited this place expecting chicken and whiskey; and while I got those things, I was pleasantly surprised by the Peruvian flair and cuisine. I was in town for homecoming and decided to take in a local eatery as 14th St. used to be one of the spots where fun would happen. I was pleased to see all of the new restaurants and bars that are in the area. I stopped in here as it looked lively, and I wasn't disappointed. The chicken was well flavored and juicy two things that I really appreciate. And I loved that there was a secret speakeasy type bar in the back that served amazing whiskeys. Both the servers and the bartender in the back were super dope and kind to me and I held great conversations with them. Next time I'm in DC I'll certainly take another spin with them again. read more

One of those spots I never skip when I'm in DC. Their pollo a la brasa is absolutely the best in the country--juicy, flavorful, and perfectly cooked every time. My go-to sides are the yuca fritas and sweet plantains, both so delicious. They offer other sides like arroz chaufa, veggies, beans, etc Prices? Unbeatable Besides their rotisserie chicken (peruvian - venezuelan style), they also serve up wraps, salads, arepas, and more--plenty of options if you're craving something different. Big shoutout to the crew at the counter--your energy and customer service are always beyond special. You guys make the experience even better. Pro tip: Don't miss the hidden bar behind the back doors--it's a whole vibe and 100% worth checking out- also great drinks read more

New to the area I found Chicken +Whiskey on a food delivery app. I love Peruvian food so I had to give them a try. I ordered the half chicken dark, half bean & rice and sweet plantains. I also ordered a Inka Kola. At first glance I was surprised at the portion. There were two pieces of chicken on a bed of 1/3 c of rice. I was like this can't be all the rice. Then when I looked in the bag the bowl with beans also had rice in it. Odd packaging but I guess altogether it was about a cup of rice. Then the sweet plantains were packaged separately. The chicken was way too salty and the rice and beans had no salt. The sweet plantains were not completely cooked. I was saddened because Peruvian food is always a hit for me and with the high ratings I expected good things. Perhaps it was an off night. There were no utensils in the bag which to me was a missed opportunity to make a good impression. Considering the food was being delivered to a hotel and folks usually need utensils away from home. On the fence about if I would order from here again, but if I did, I would probably go in person instead of ordering through a food app. read more

Get the family deal of a whole chicken + 4 sides; it's such a good deal and maybe feeds 4 semi-hungry people or 2 very hungry adults lol. Loved the mac n cheese it has little bits of corn in it. Love this place for their chicken! The meal can relatively be healthy and there is indoor and outdoor seating. They also have a pretty good happy hour special. The service is great. This is our go to spot for casual dining with a group of friends. We often go here for dinner and get their combo meal. It used to be $50 but they have increased the price to $60. It's still worth it. They give you two whole roasted chicken ( very tender and flavorful) with 4 sides. Highly recommend the Yuka fries, rice and roasted veggies. Doughnuts are good as well. This place is the epitome of a mullet - business in the front and party in the back. I dropped by Chicken + Whiskey on a early Saturday evening to meet a few acquaintances. While visiting the boy's room, I noticed a bar in the back of the restaurant. Clearly, I missed the big sign on the wall in the restaurant saying "Whiskey in the back". ;) Since I arrived a bit early for my meetup, I decided to check out the bar...Also, I was quite excited to have an adult beverage while waiting for my acquaintances. I'll say that I loved both the chicken and whiskey components of Chicken + Whiskey. I think this is the perfect business model, because you can party in the bar and grab a bite to eat before or afterwards. Whiskey: The bar component has a MASSIVE selection of whiskey options, which is to be expected from the + Whiskey. Also, it has a nice mix of various cocktails, so I think everyone can find something that they will like. For my tasting pleasure, I went with "I can buy myself flowers" (of course I ordered it how Miley Cyrus sings it) and a standard Manhattan on the rocks. Both drinks were delicious although gin-based beverage (I can buy myself flowers) was a bit too sweet for my liking. My bartender (a woman with brownish/reddish hair) was absolutely amazing. Chicken: The restaurant component is a typical Peruvian rotisserie chicken operation with plenty of chicken and side options. For my meal, I went with 1/4 white chicken with two sides (mac n queso and fried rice). The chicken was very delicious with oh so juicy meat. The mac n queso was just ok, but the fried rice (arroz chufa) was amazing especially with the bits of bacon mixed in. The meal was about $14, which I thought was reasonable. Since I did not get enough gin and whiskey from the whiskey bar, I decided to wash my meal down with a can of a hazy IPA. The can of beer was $9, which I thought was a little pricey. But, it is what it is, I guess. Overall, I definitely will love to visit Chicken + Whiskey again, especially the Whiskey part, because I really would like to try more of their cocktails. One note: While you can take your beverages from the Whiskey part to the Chicken part, it is HIGHLY recommended (actually, it might be a rule) that you do not bring food from the Chicken part to the Whiskey part. If you want bites while in the Whiskey part, you can over food from the bar's menu. read more

After going to a concert in the neighborhood, we were looking for some food to fill our bellies. After checking out a few eateries, we settled on Chicken and Whisky, a Peruvian place, as the roast chicken looked really inviting. The first impression was good. The shop was decorated with bright colors and an open kitchen. All of the staff were young men who were in good spirits and very friendly. We shared the 1/2 chicken with two sides combo and selected the Yuca fries and sweet plantains. We also shared a can of Brazliian Guarana-flavored soda. My husband also tried a pork belly arepa. We must have been hungry because we devoured the food in just a few minutes. That's how good everything was. The chicken was roasted to perfection, even the breast was tender and juicy. The yuca fries were big and crispy and the plantains were nice and charred, but not overly sweet. Needlessly to say we were very impressed with the food and wish we have a Chicken and Whisky near home. If you are in the neighborhood and want some delicious Peruvian roast chicken, definitely give Chicken and Whisky a try. read more

Got there Sunday night around 7pm after it had started to snow and it was comfy. Solid roasted chicken, yucca fries and plantains for sides. They were out of the roasted vegetables. also tried their chicken empanadas which was mostly potatoes than chicken but still tasty. When I went to order some churros just after 8pm, they had decided to close down the kitchen early for staff meals. Was kind of annoyed as I see the hours posted on yelp to be till 11pm. I used to love taking whiskey and remember and it was just this location on 14th with a really cool back bar. The actual food here is very good, the prices are reasonable and the flavor proposition delivers. But for me this was one of the worst delivery experiences I've ever had. My driver waited a lengthy period of time for food here and decided to cancel on me and leave. The food once ready then sat, by the time another driver took the order it was a hazard and the food had to be remade. A planned 25 min order took 2 hours to make its way to the end destination. read more

I'm in empanada heaven here. Their chicken empanadas with the aji amarillo sauce are just so good - generously filled, flavorful, full of tender chicken with sauce and veggies, warm and with perfectly fried dough. I've had so many empanadas lately that were bad or just okay (burnt, dry, bland, etc.) that I'm so happy to have tried these! I've had their fried arepas before, which are so decadent and filling (my favorite is the one stuffed with chicken and plantains) - the absolute perfect drunk food for me! The only thing I've not enjoyed here was a side of plantains, which were kind of tough/not a great texture. I haven't ordered them again, but the ones in my arepas haven't been like that, so it's possible I just got an old/off batch that one time. The restaurant is tiny and you're better off taking your order to go in my experience, but this is my comfort food spot for when I just want delicious fried food. I really need to try their drinks soon! I can vouch for the chicken but not yet the whiskey. I've always found the service quick and helpful, but I'm also usually there at odd times, and I know they can get crowded in the evening. You can order ahead for pick-up if you're in a hurry. read more

Takeout order review: This is my first and not my last time eating here. It's definitely worth the time and money, which I might add is worth the bang for the buck! Service: excellent takeout service Ambiance: I definitely plan on coming back to grab some drinks. Cute spot and very comfy Food: My boyfriend ordered the Carne Mechada Bowl with the Aji Amarillo sauce and after taking one bite of his food, I immediately fell in love lol. I should note that he's been here a few times before so he introduced me to the restaurant-excellent recommendation babe! But, the shredded braised beef was very well seasoned, tender, and delicious. Paired with the Aji sauce...AMAZING! I ordered the 1/2 chicken (white meat) with the Caribbean coleslaw and yucca fries. The 1/2 chicken was SO juicy! Perfectly seasoned and tender. I'm normally not big on eating the skin on a chicken but when it's seasoned as good as this is, it's worth the carbs. The Caribbean coleslaw was a great tangy add-on to the chicken and the yucca fries were nicely seasoned and perfectly fried! I must say that I added the Aji sauce to both the yucca fries and the chicken and I'm officially obsessed! lol whatever they put in this sauce, sign me up for a lifetime supply. Dessert: we ordered the tres leche cake which came with a twist. There were pineapple chunks and shredded coconut added and I think it threw the flavors off. Not my favorite and definitely not something I'd try again. Overall, the food was delicious! The hype is believable so run, don't walk! Run to this place and order away. read more

Lunch, dinner, or late night...chicken and whiskey is ALWAYS a great choice. Didn't go into the store today but my ubereats came super quick. Based on Yelp reviews, I had very high expectations. However the Peruvian chicken wasn't that much more amazing than an average Costco chicken. We ordered the carne mechada bowl and 1/2 chicken with 2 sides. Total was $37 which for fast casual was on the higher end. Chicken was well roasted, savory and juicy. It paired well with the yellow packet sauce. The carne mechada bowl had braised beef, black beans, avocado and basmati rice. It was great for a onetime experience! read more

Chicken + Whiskey is a vibrant spot in the heart of the modern Logan Circle neighborhood serving up authentic Peruvian roasted chicken (a.k.a. pollo a la brasa) and a plethora of sides - while it has its quirks, it offers a flavorful experience that's hard to forget. Finding parking around here can be a bit tricky, especially during peak hours, but it's worth the effort for a taste of their food. They have a fun little outside counter for a quick bite, or you can dine inside, where there's several tables (and even a speakeasy in the back bumping Latin beats). I opted for takeout and ordered the 1/2 Chicken Dark with Yuca Fries ($15 for the chicken and one side, $16 for two sides), which turned out to be a delightful choice despite a few hiccups in the process. When I arrived to pick up my order, there was a bit of a delay--about five minutes as they located my meal. To add to the minor inconvenience, they initially forgot to include the fries and one of the sauces I requested (Aji Amarillo). However, the staff quickly rectified this, packing the fries in a small bag and offering a sincere apology for the oversight. Now, let's talk about the food itself. The website boasts that they "brine chicken for 12 hours in a uniquely flavorful recipe, then slow roast them to perfection at 1000°F, over natural wood charcoal." The 1/2 Chicken Dark was moist, juicy, and packed with flavor, hitting all the right notes in terms of seasoning and tenderness. It came with two sizable chicken quarters (thigh and drumstick), and it was simply seasoned, but the quality of the chicken was great. The only downside was the skin, which was flabby and overly congealed (even after reheating it in the air fryer), lacking the crispy texture that would have elevated the dish even more. However, I did order takeout, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that it would be much better if I ate it at the restaurant. On the other hand, the Yuca Fries were a standout. They were lovely and crunchy, with a perfect mix of spices (I believe they use Tajin) that made each bite exciting. The fries paired exceptionally well with the signature Inti Picante sauce, which brought a smoky, spicy kick that I thoroughly enjoyed. Despite the minor service issues, the quality of the food at Chicken + Whiskey shines through. The staff's quick recovery in addressing the missing items showed their commitment to customer satisfaction. Additionally, for its prime location in DC, the fact that I was able to get a two generous chicken leg quarters and a good amount of yuca fries was a pretty great value. I look forward to trying more from their menu (especially their wide variety of sides), hoping the in-house experience is as lively and engaging as their food! read more

Made it just in time before closing after a Nats game. We got a couple of chicken borracho wraps and a side of yucca fries. The wraps had a generous amount of chicken and was flavorful. The price of this food was absolutely insane. I know it's downtown DC but anything over $30 for the meal we ordered is insane! The food was honestly a 3.5/5. Mac and cheese had corn on it and was bland. Just not good. Chicken was pretty good not hot though. Actually nothing was hot. Rice and beans were good also but it could have been seasoned better. Chicken tenders were very small and weird looking. They were also dry so a lot of sauce had to be used. Empanadas were a solid 4.5/5 beef were better than chicken. The service was mediocre. Communication was off. It was clean so we ate in. Everyone behind the counter were playing to be honest. The biggest issue is the comparison to the food and price. Definitely not worth it. read more

I visited Chicken + Whiskey for the first time recently after hearing great things about it for years. I don't know why it's taken me this long to visit. The 14th St location has a fast casual chicken spot in the front and a "hidden" whiskey bar in the back, behind a commercial freezer door. I visited for happy hour on a Friday at 5 PM and we were the first people there. We enjoyed the cocktails and food, especially with the happy hour discount. Happy hour runs Mon-Fri, 5-7 PM and includes $2 off all beers and arepas, $3 off all cocktails and sanguiches/wraps, $9 pisco punch, and $15 beer + wings combo. We had the Pisco Punch, Squash It, and Sweater Weather cocktails which were all tasty and $9/$10 on happy hour. We got the wings and beer combo and the Borracho Wrap, recommended by the bartender. The wings were good if a little dry, and actually came with all 3 sauces on the side. The wrap ($10.25 on HH) was excellent, the perfect balance of textures and flavors. Very impressed. Service was quick and friendly. Overall, we had good experience, but there are a couple opportunities to improve. The cocktails were clearly fall cocktails and out of season now that it's April. The beer + wings combo was a bit disappointing because it was only for the Tecate beer (not any beer). The 3.75% surcharge is also unwelcome. Finally, for a first timer, the food/drinks situation was a little confusing. Before visiting, we thought we would be able to order from the full menu at the back bar, but it actually has a limited food menu. Then, the door to the bar has a sign saying you can't take food and drinks back and forth between the front chicken shop and back bar, which gave us pause. The happy hour menu mentions a discount on "sanguiches" but the main drinks/food menu doesn't use this term. And while the menu design is very stylish, it's also very busy and a little hard to fully read and parse. read more

A friend recommended this place when I was in the area and I'm glad to have stopped by! I was looking for dinner on a Thursday night and first saw the bar of the restaurant that is in front of the store. Once you walk in, there is a seating area along with the area where you order and past that is another bar area that's located inside the store. Thursday night was pretty dead, but when I went back Saturday it was busy to get inside of the back bar and seemed fun. It is a quick order line where you let the associate know what you want and they start to make it in front of you. I ordered the Chicken Barracho Wrap and Sweet Plantains and both hit the spot after a night out. I enjoyed my quick dinner so much that Thursday night that not pictured is the Chicken and Beef wrap that I went back for Saturday to bring back to my partner.
