Arepa zone is a western market staple! I used to go here all the time when I lived on foggy bottom, and it never disappointed. My go-to order is the pabellon bowl and tequenos. Both are extremely flavorful! This place always has one of the longest lines in western market, but it's worth it. It's located in a food hall, so there's plenty of seating. It does get pretty busy during office lunch hour, so I would try to avoid going from 12-1 if you're looking to avoid the lines.

Delicious arepas! I had the Pollo Mechado and my sister had one with shredded beef and cheese (direct quote - "It was perfect!"). Both came with the green sauce as seen in the picture. The arepas and the chicken inside were sizzling when it came out and it tasted absolutely divine. SO MUCH flavor in the chicken. Our food also came out within 5 minutes, although it seemed to be a slower time in Western Market (late Saturday afternoon) so that may have influenced it. Would definitely return and would recommend to anyone look for Venezuelan food!

I love anything plantain all I was excited to see this vegan option on the menu. It came with guac, black beans and plantain and a sauce on the side. Plantains were perfection but the order they could have stuffed it more proportionally so you get some of everything in each bite. I will say it looks better than it tastes and requires some maneuvering to experience all the flavors in a single bite. It's been a while since I had an arepa and when I did, they were a lot softer than this. I give it a 3.5/5.

I think it's great that D.C.'s Arepa Zone is expanding since I do think they make great Venezuelan fast food. This location in the Western Market (between the Foggy Bottom and Farragut West metro stations) seems to be popular already, especially with the nearby GWU students when I came by to visit around 9 p.m. on a Saturday night. I saw a lot of people eating pabellón, teque-pops (bite-sized tequeños or cheesesticks), and arepas. While I don't usually order arepas from them (I make them at home), I do venture out to them to eat things that I don't usually make at home such as their $5 pabellón empanadas (queso fresco, shredded beef, plantains, black beans) which always hit the spot for me, especially with their cilantro-based sauce. And downing that with the $4.50 passion fruit juice takes me back to Venezuela. They also have cachapas, patacones, and an espresso machine for various traditional coffee drinks as well. The only downside to this place is that their menu, while larger than their Mosaico by Arepa Zone's menu, is still rather limited comparing with the flagship on 14th street. Their printed menu is larger than their overhead menu as well - so be sure to take a look at the printed menu! You will not find Colombian hotdogs, pepitos, or golfeados at this location - for those other delectable goodies, nearby locals will still need to trek over to the other locations. Hopefully soon they can expand a bit of these offerings since the first two would probably be popular with the college students and the latter would be a great addition as a breakfast pastry with coffee. Their hours at this location is also what helps make this place popular - they are open for longer than most of the other Western Market vendors, staying open for 12 hours from morning to late evening on most days.

Really great arepas!!! I have been looking for great Venezuelan food in DC and I'm glad I finally found some! This reminds me of one of my favorite places to eat in Pittsburgh. I got the mini arepas which were a nice option to try several fillings. Service was fast and there was plenty of room in Western Market to sit and chat with friends. I would definitely come back here to try more of their options.

I love Venezuelan food. When I found out there was a nice, quick, cheap Venezuelan restaurant near my hotel during my stay in DC, I knew I had to visit it. Let me just say this food is excellent! Everything is very fresh, the employees are quite friendly, and the food is made quickly as well. I ordered the classic cachapa, Nutella tequeños, and the chocolate straws (packaged dessert). The prices are quite competitive for DC and the portions are okay (a bit on the smaller side). I'm a sucker for cachapas, and this one was pretty good. It was authentic from what I know. Good amount of cheese, nice and sweet. I'd recommend trying one with meat or plantains since this one was a bit plain. Still good though. The Nutella tequeños were incredible. It's hard to go wrong with Nutella filled Venezuelan sweets. These were packed full of Nutella, and you could see the man frying them in front of you. Very flavorful and delicious, not too thick of a breading. I only got 3 pieces though, would have loved more. This places a number of other great packaged sweets imported from other countries, so I decided to give the Latin American version of pirouline (called pirucream) a try. They were a nice little snack, and a decent price again at $2. Little sticks filled with chocolate and a tad bit of hazelnut. All in all, I definitely recommend this place. It's got a variety of items you won't find in most other locations. Great for students, not too expensive, relatively quick (5-8 min wait), and most importantly delicious food.

La Arepa Venezuela's cornmeal pockets of heaven! Soft, crispy, and flavorful, with generous fillings like tender chicken and creamy avocado. The sweet plantain and queso is a must-try! Authentic Venezuelan taste in every bite. 5/5 stars

Very unique and great tasting food. Prices are good too. The bread that these tequinos are made in and everything else is delicious. Sauces are great too. Nice ambiance as plenty of seating inside Western market.

Let's start with the obvious. If labor matters so much, build it into the price. Every other business manages to pay employees without turning the receipt into a public relations campaign. Instead, Chicken + Whiskey wants customers to admire them for charging extra after the fact. As for the food, the chicken looked less "wood fired" and more "insurance claim." One piece was so aggressively charred it appeared to have entered the atmosphere and returned. The sides were forgettable, the presentation was indistinguishable from a middle school cafeteria tray, and absolutely nothing on the table justified the premium pricing. The entire experience feels engineered by a marketing team. Keep the menu prices looking lower than reality. Add surprise fees later. Call them something noble. Hope nobody notices. We noticed. The funniest part is that the restaurant seems convinced the labor fee demonstrates transparency. Real transparency would be putting the actual price on the menu. What they're doing is the restaurant equivalent of an airline advertising a cheap ticket and then charging separately for the wings. For a place so concerned with fairness, they seem remarkably comfortable being unfair about pricing. I left feeling like I'd paid admission to watch a TED Talk about compensation practices while eating chicken that looked like it had been recovered from a structure fire. The food wasn't good enough to justify the price. The price wasn't honest enough to justify the policy. The policy wasn't clever enough to justify the attitude. One star. Raise your prices. Pay your staff. Stop expecting applause for it.

So good we ordered it twice Bread - could miss it but the Brazilian bread was interesting Snapper ceviche - 8/10 Cauliflower peru peri - 9/10 -I didnt know where this dish was going and as a cauliflower lover, I had to try it. Perfectly fried and sauces were so good. Yellow curry rockfish - 9.5/10. I love that they arent afraid to actually use curry! The tenderloin was so tender too!! And the taro cake very interesting, in a good way. A true stand out was the guava cheesecake - absolutely incredible and nothing like you'd think it would be. I love it when restaurants are super creative with food and the play on flavors were top tier during this meail. We also ordered a bottle of the Chilean sauvignon blanc, which paired perfectly with the food and stood on its own with the tenderloin. Our meal was a pleasure and I look forward to returning to this restaurant.

Again I must preface by saying I didn't dine here or experience the place. I was invited to a dinner here that I couldn't attend, and as a birthday surprise I wanted to send that table a bottle of champagne. I intended to order a Dom Perignon (for which they charge ~$400 per bottle). But the staff was on amateur hour -- instead of taking my order, they altered the reservation, then alerted the birthday person who made the reservation (ruining any potential for a nice surprise gift), and said they would have to cancel the original reservation because the number of people changed. Birthday person had to call them and me to smooth it all over. Then, another person called me to get my email address to send me a PDF to fill out (which I had to then send them on WhatsApp) for my order - a comically silly added bureaucratic/administrative load. Just take the credit card over the phone on the first call/request, like 99% of businesses around the world. This place takes 3-4 steps just to order something... This person had absolutely zero idea that I made the request as a surprise, so it suggests there is pretty poor coordination and communication amongst staff. I'm sure people come here regularly and have great meals and great times. But at their prices, wine/champagne mark-ups, and promise of an 'elevated' experience -- staff need to get their act together.

It is located a few blocks from the Washington circle park in Washington DC Service is excellent with attentive and friendly staff, from the hostess welcoming you, to the manager and al the way to the servers. The ambiance is relatively casual, with comfortable, nautical theme of blue and white decor with gold accents. Easy listening music set the stage for a comfortable dining experience, either with coworkers or for a special night out. Their wine and alcoholic drinks selection was wide and their mocktails were equally as interesting. You can definitely see the interesting Mediterranean/Latin fusion in all the dishes. From the ingredients and spices picked for each, to the presentation and flavor profiles, it all screams fusion. Even though we didn't go for the chef's tasting this time, our party got to try and share quite a few dishes.: To start, we were received by a mushroom and truffle cream soup shot. Tasty and creamy, great way to open the appetite. For the appetizer round we ordered the moussaka cigars and falafel. The moussaka cigars were perfectly delicate and airy, yet flavorful, stuffed with eggplant and ground lamb and pine nuts, served with a creamy manchego goat cheese dip to balance the crispy, fluffy phyllo dough. The falafel was equally delicate and light, served with a Latin tahini spiced with sumac and cinnamon. For the main course, we got to try three different dishes: The mushroom risotto - very interesting flavor profile. The crispy fried maitake mushrooms topped the perfectly cooked, creamy risotto, which was surprisingly acidic in a very refreshing way. The lechón was delicious. A generous portion of tender, fall off the bone, suckling pig, including a super crispy skin, served on a date mole with zucchini blossom and a side of zucchini salad with radish, olives and pepitas, definitely stole the show. The only criticism I would have is the zucchini blossom was a bit too oily probably due to the drench they used before frying. Other than that, it was a really well balanced dish. The Lamb terrine was served on top of potato puree, red cabbage confit and lamb juice topped with generous shavings of black truffle. Beautiful to eat with your eyes and equally as delicious on the pallad. For dessert we ordered the pistachio and yoghurt dresser with consisted of a delicious salty pistachio ice cream served with a dulce the leche foam and yogurt, served on a raspberry sauce and topped with a crispy Mille-feuille cookie. Fascinating dessert and incredibly well balanced. The sweetness of the Dulce the leche foam was expertly balanced by the pistachio ice cream and the raspberry sauce provided some acidity. The cookie gave a textural component much needed by all the other soft/smooth elements. Definitely try it out if it's on the menu. I would definitely recommend Imperfecto. I know I'd come back!
