Recently held an event in the office and had to find a place to cater. I feel like our office is in a food desert, there's not much in the immediate area. It hasn't really bounced back just yet. But I also feel like we are in a bubble too. Our street looks vacant, but once you walk to one end of the block or other, the opportunities are within sight. I have seen this place when I have had the pleasure to drive into work. However, it's not an establishment that I would walk to for lunch. DC blocks can be super long to walk and it can take a while to cross the busy streets. With our event coming up I figured why not. We went with the 40 Person Package from their catering menu. I think they under-describe this. It states it is for 40 people, but the amount of food you receive can easily feed more than that. Especially when it comes with four full pan sized side dishes. Definitely enough food to feed a crew and have leftovers. For our sides we went with White Rice, Plantains, Mashed Potatoes, and House Salad. All the food was received well by our crew and they were pleased to be able to partake in what was left after the meal was done. The White Rice comes with peas and carrots right in it. The Plantains are fried perfectly. Mashed Potatoes were velvety (sadly they appear to have taken them off the menu since we ordered). And the House Salad was a light side to rest of the rich food. What was over the top here was the delivery of the food. This was two weeks post snowstorm and the streets of DC were still mini mountains to climb. Our delivery person was amazing with the delivery. He, however, had the mishap of the mashed potatoes deciding to ditch before being delivered. He was very apologetic, cleaned it off the sidewalk outside, and went back to the restaurant to bring a fresh tray. That is superb service in my mind. read more

A solid Peruvian Chicken joint that has all the trimmings you would expect. However, they offered a unique side that I needed to try ... roasted Brussel sprouts. The Brussel sprouts were slight sweetened by the addition of carrots which really offset the bitterness you sometimes get with such a dish. Excellent idea! But let's not forget the main course ... the chicken. Nice and juicy. Quite good! Definitely worth a try! read more

I've ate at this little place several times now. It has never failed me! I do warn than it is just out of the downtown area. The chicken and all of their aides have a great flavor. It's not bad on the pocket book either. When I visited the place, the staff were extremely friendly and helpful with the menu. The decor was fitting for the food. My mistake is ordering when I'm hungry. The half chicken is just a bit too much for me...but I still ate it all. I left nothing for leftovers. When I'm DC, this is a place to eat. read more

Omg! The food here was so delicious. My sister had catered food delivered from them for my bachelorette party, and everything was just so tasty. My friends and I talked about how good the food was, especially their rice with the green sauce on top. We had chicken, plantains, salad, and their pasta salad. The pasta salad was so tasty too. I've been ordering here for such a long time now that it's for me to admit that that quality doesn't seem to be the same. The past few times I've ordered from here, the chicken was overcooked and dry (as were the fries.) The side salad also is no longer as high quality. I think the first couple times I realized this, I thought I was just catching them on an off day, on an off order. But now that it's been more consistently this way, I thought it's time for an update. To all my Charlotte folks... think Viva Chicken. My only real gripe? They dared to toss a bag of whole baby carrots into the Brussels sprouts. Come on--chop those things up! That aside, the Brussels sprouts themselves had great flavor. The balsamic glaze really popped, adding a tangy sweetness that paired well with the earthy sprouts. I do wish they had been roasted a bit longer, though--they were still a little too firm for my taste. The plantains, on the other hand, stole the show. Beautifully charred and caramelized on the outside, while staying soft, warm, and perfectly sweet on the inside. And then there's the chicken--the heart of the meal. The Peruvian seasoning came through nicely, especially on the breast, which stayed tender (though it felt like it was about three minutes shy of tipping into dryness). The thigh and leg, however, were spot on: juicy, flavorful, and cooked just right. Overall, definitely worth a stop if you're craving those bold, comforting Peruvian flavors. read more

Had a strong craving for Peruvian food! I really wanted Sardi's but unfortunately, there aren't any in DC near me so I did a quick Yelp service to learn that District Rico is close by and has good reviews. I went with the quarter white meat chicken, fried rice, plantains, and Brussels sprouts & carrots. Only problem was there were no carrots. Not sure if they missed all the carrots when putting mine into the container or if they ran out, but I was looking forward to them. In terms of location, there isn't much over there since Walmart closed so it's easy to miss the spot. I likely wouldn't eat in there unless I had to as there's a lot of "riff raff" around but it wasn't dirty inside which helps. read more

I had never heard of this place. I was doing errands nearby and visited for the first time, and I rate it five stars for their absolutely fantastic quality food! There was no wait in line. The service was friendly and upbeat. You order Chipotle style, picking your main and sides and then pay at the end. I ordered white meat (chicken breast) and two sides; mac and cheese and yucca, and all were incredibly fresh and tasty. The chicken was on the bone and piping hot. The green and white sauces significantly enhanced the flavor of the chicken. There is plenty of single window seats and tables. The interior including the restroom was clean and well lit. I figure I give this local spot a try. I am so happy I did. The food was amazing. Totally satisfied my taste buds. The staff were friendly and energetic. As I was waiting for my order, I noticed lots of delivery guys stopping by for pick up. No wonder not many diners. I, myself, was also waiting for my to-go order. My husband is craving Peruvian food and because it's his bday week, I want to find a really authentic tasting grilled chicken and thanks to Yelpers, we found this restaurant called District Rico. This amazing restaurant is near a parking garage and they happen to also have an available street parking we found. The place is clean and homey. The two guys were so nice and helpful. They really help us choose the best with a smile. So we got the family meal of authentic Peruvian grilled chicken and 4 sides. They have a lot of side selection. We choose sweet fried plantain, fried yuka, black beans and brussel sprouts. We also got the delicious carne asado with two sides. We got the delicious brown rice and another plantain. My husband loved it and we all enjoyed every thing. The chicken is so well spiced and the flavor are just plain delicious. The meat so soft and moist. All the sides are excellent! The service was great and it felt like a Chiptole type of service, but the Peruvian way. I randomly found this place as I was out of luck with other Peruvian resturants in other locations, but I was so happy to see a Peruvian restaurant close to my hotel. It was a walk away and there were lots of seating. The chicken was delicious and enojoyed the variety of sides like brussel sprouts, fries, and more. The meal was ready within 15 minutes after ordering and all the items were super hot when we brought them home. The chicken smells amazing and we were so excited to get started when we got back home. When we opened it up, it was hot, flavorful, juicy, and meaty; this is one of best Peruvian style roast chickens I've ever had. The yuca fries are amazing; crispy and crunchy but thick and soft on the inside. The onion salad is essentially pickled onions and tomato with some pineapple for flavor and was the ideal contrast to the rest of the meal. This place has everything: Great flavor, big portions, affordable prices, a pile of yuca fries for $0.99... Actually though District Rico is awesome. I ordered the chipotle shrimp burrito and was shocked how good it was for under $11. The shrimp were delicious and not overcooked, the rice and beans were tasty as well, and the yuca fries, only $0.99 extra, were crisp and perfectly salted. I can eat a lot, but I still had to take some leftovers home. I was actually only visiting DC for a week but I went back for lunch a second time because it was such a positive experience. The second time, I got a veggie burrito. It was similarly good and filling, with a nice blend of grilled peppers and onions plus guac. Now for the food: I got the 1/4 chicken dark meat with the fried plantains and chickpeas as sides. I also got the mild sauce. It was really good! The chicken was juicy and super flavorful. I ordered from here on Monday for dinner on UberEats. I got the Family Chicken Dinner special with four sides which were Plantains, Yucca Fries, Pasta Salad, and Corn. The chicken was delicious and all three of their sauces were great as were all four of our sides. The portions are very generous and the prices are very affordable. The prices may be lower in person here which is not uncommon but they had a $10 coupon to try them on UberEats.
