Tallarin Saltado with Chicken
Shandy R.

I stopped in for a birthday brunch and LOVED my experience. I'd give this place a 10/10, from the decor, the vibe, the service and the food. It was my first time visiting but my 3 other friends have been here before. The menu is overwhelming only because everything sounded really good. I decided on the Tallarin Saltado with Chicken and couldn't stop thinking about it for weeks! I wish I lived closer but I'll definitely be back ASAP.

My first time at the Bethesda location! I love the aesthetic there. It's so clean and lively. I really enjoyed the food here, but some dishes were more on the salty side. pork belly bao buns * $16.50 tostones sampler * $18 sangría roja * $12.50 pescado a lo macho * $27.50 bistec a lo pobre * $31 tacu seco de cordero * $30 The service was also great. If you don't know what to get, ask your server for some recommendations.

Jasmine and I stopped in for brunch on a beautiful weekend afternoon and this place delivered on every level. We did three courses for $34 a person. First up was the anticucho de pollo and tuna tartare tacos. Strong start. Then the lomo saltado and traditional ceviche for the second course. The ceviche alone was worth the trip. We wrapped up with arroz con leche and the buenazo, which was the perfect way to finish. Our server Alonso was attentive, professional, and made the whole experience feel effortless from start to finish. As someone who works in the DMV helping people find homes in this area, I love discovering spots like this that remind me why the community here is so special. Pisco y Nazca is exactly the kind of place that makes this area worth putting down roots in. 10/10. Will be back.

The environment is wonderful and upbeat, there is a solid happy hour where you can enjoy your drinks and snacks. My order: TALLARINES A LA HUANCAÍNA $ 24 linguine with creamy parmesan, huancaína sauce, topped with lomo saltado TRADITIONAL Pisco Sour $16 Pisco, lime juice, egg whites, Angostura bitters I ordered my steak medium and received very well done. There was a lot of potential for the steak to taste to be better. And my pisco sour didnt truly hit the notes I needed it to. Overall the meal was mediocre. I would say it's a great spot to hang out after work for drinks and good service.

This is the third location of Pisco Y Nazca that we have tried and they are all good.  This Bethesda location has all the great menu items we enjoy such as the ceviche mixto, empanadas (both chicken and beef), bao buns, lomo saltado and pescado a lo macho.  All are generous servings and very tasty.  We ended our dinner by sharing two desserts, the buenazo and the pionono.  Both were rich and good but, surprisingly, I might say I liked the pionono more (which is weird because the other option was a very chocolate brownie.)  One of the best things about Pisco Y Nasca is the flight of pisco sours.  We split two between four people and this was more than enough for everyone to sample and enjoy.  We really appreciated the helpfulness and friendliness of the staff who helped make our meal even more pleasant.  This location has plenty of garage parking nearby.

I am still processing and savoring the memories of our delicious meal from yesterday. We arrived during a busy happy hour without a reservation, and they were able to accommodate us in a space. Without fuss, I might add. The place was buzzing nicely, with music not too loud but enough to recognize what was playing and enjoy a good rotation of Latin hits. Drinks were flowing everywhere. We had a nice couple next to us, and we quickly began exchanging recommendations. We both enjoyed our meals and drinks. The whole place is a vibe. It's definitely higher on the price scale, I would say $30 per person plus drinks, but for me, the food is worth it. Worthy mention: ceviche callejero, lychee cocktail, white sangria super fresh, has berries. And our seafood entree was so juicy and tender, 10000/10. Worth the $48, and it fed both of us with leftovers since we had appetizers.

This was our first visit to this establishment and we wanted to check out their happy hour. We arrived a few minutes after 4:00 on a Saturday and the bar was mostly full. There were about 5 spots left. The bar does turn over, but I would recommend to come early for happy hour based on our experience Service- 3 stars. It started out well, the bartender greeted us immediately, gave us water and menus, then checked on us within 2 minutes but we weren't ready with our order yet. Then after that, no one checked on us for at least 10 minutes, no eye contact even though the other 2 staff were there. We were behind the barrier/column so I don't know if our bartender couldn't see us , but we never saw him after the initial greeting. We ended up flagging another staff member and they took our order. Food came out quickly though Food- 4 stars for quality and price point. We liked everything we got. The ceviche tasted fresh, great seasoning and good acid. I loved the scallops appetizer too, cheesy and delicious. We ordered 5 things off of happy hour, and 5 drinks. Everything came $96 including tax and tip between two people and we left satisfied full wise. The restaurant is bright, open decor and welcoming. We enjoyed our first visit and would be happy to return based on our experience

Even the bathrooms were beautiful.

Pisco y Nazca is a restaurant that provides a modern twist on Peruvian food cuisine. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful in turquoise, orange, and tan colors. The restaurant calls itself a gastropub and the beautiful bar area, is the first thing you see, as you enter the restaurant. It has plenty of seats and the drink menu is fun and flirty. My friend and I thought we were coming for Restaurant Week, but found out they were only honoring Restaurant Week for dinner. We decided to stay and have lunch. Service was very good. Our waiter was attentive and gave suggestions on his favorite dishes. I ordered a red sangria and it was delicious. Great fruity flavor and a well mixed cocktail. Next, we tried the tuna tacos. They were fantastic. The fish was fresh and tasty. The crunchy taco and flavorful salsa was a real treat. Thank you, Eddie K. for your recommendation from your review. Our main dish was the lomos Saltado. The meat was tender and perfectly cooked. It came with rice and fries. The dish was cooked with onions and peppers. Unfortunately, the sauce was a little too salty. But, everything else was delicious. The dessert was a super star. I had pumpkin cake covered in a Nutella and caramel sauce with ice cream on the side. It was a luscious, sweet treat, that covered all the bases. I would order that again in a heartbeat. My friend got a chocolate cookie crumble mousse. It looked decadent and delicious. She really enjoyed it. All in all, it was a fun time and enjoyable food. We look forward to trying the ceviche out our next visit.

This location was selected for a Galentine's dinner with some friends. Parking was a little interesting since the garage right next to the restaurant had a power outage. There's no street parking but a few drive in garage options within walking distance. Upon Entry the restaurant was lively, with dim lighting to set the ambiance. You could see the wrap around bar full with patrons and some seating throughout. There are some nice arch accents to walk through and wooden accents throughout. The menu unfortunately was not marked off for gluten free options, but the kitchen was able to assure gluten free items were available (would be great to offer a gluten free menu). We were also able to enjoy a menu set aside for restaurant week which allowed us to try an appetizer, main and dessert. My girlfriends tried to ceviche, which we thought came with plantain chips but were provided after we questioned without an issue. I tried the pork belly bao buns, which were crisp and had a nice sauce - wish there was a bit more since this seemed to be the star of the show! For our main to the table we ordered Tallarines a la Huancaina, Salmon Andino & Chaufa Mixto. We all seemed to enjoy our meals! We ended with dessert Tres Leches & Suspiro. Would overall give this restaurant another try, looking forward to trying out other menu items.

Bao buns

Came here for a Galentine's celebration and had a really good experience overall. We all ordered from the Restaurant Week menu, which was a great way to try a variety of dishes. Everything we tried was flavorful, well-prepared, and a solid introduction to Peruvian fusion. One thing to be aware of if you're coming on a Saturday: there's a 2 hour dining limit. It wasn't a dealbreaker, but it did make the evening feel a bit more structured than a typical long, chatty celebration dinner... just something to keep in mind. Parking was manageable thanks to nearby parking garages, though street parking is limited, so plan accordingly. The only downside was that it was a bit hard to get clear answers about which dishes contain gluten. I asked our server which dishes he recommended for gluten free, and he listed a few dishes that had soy sauce, bao buns, etc. Friendly, but not very confident or knowledgeable on that front, which could be tough for anyone with dietary restrictions. All in all, great food and a fun vibe especially for group dinners or special occasions, with a few logistical things to plan around.

Contemporary place for great food and great service. Our 4 top had tasty dishes and our server was attentive and friendly. Tables are close together and doesn't provide much privacy for talking. Overall good value and we're going back!

We got off the Bethesda Metro feeling hungry and were looking for a place to eat when we saw Pisco y Nazca right there, so we decided to give it a try. Wow, the food was really good, outstanding flavor. I've had some truly amazing Peruvian food in Costa Rica years ago. I still remember the shrimp fried rice that was better than what I've had at most Chinese restaurants. Pisco y Nazca brought back the memorable Peruvian food experience again. We enjoyed it so much that we came back another time to celebrate a birthday. The service was friendly and attentive as always. We have found another great local place to take out-of-town guests!

Located in the previous McCormick and Schmicks and Cesco, this place was hopping on a very busy Wednesday night. Highly recommend reservations. Most of the tables here can accommodate 2-4 people. Larger parties will be in the private room or closer to the front. They do have happy hour which consists of drinks specials only. I had two Pisco sours and boy did they pack a punch. You can order from your table as well. I was quite tipsy! We had a party of eight and since the place was packed, service was a little slow. I did enjoy their tuna tartare tacos and Croquetas to start. For main dishes, I enjoyed the Tallarines a la Huancaina- pasta was good as well as the sauce. The Lomo Saltado was okay, a little salty and the tenderloin was not tender and was cooked well done. I did request it medium rare, oh well. My Mom did enjoy the Pescado a la Macho. Large piece of fried fish with seafood. Overall, I will come back and try their other dishes. Glad it opened in Bethesda and it's a good option if you aren't looking for American food which Bethesda has plenty of.

To stay…read moreby the side of our elderly dog, we are foregoing the experience of dining out, more and more. After we finished eating, she remarked we needed to visit the restaurant sometime. We'll have to look for an opportunity when we are around the dog all day, so she can be on her own for a couple of hours, likely sleeping. Birdsong already is acclaimed. This is much more Thai and Thai American. Like Chinese or Italian cuisine before it, Thai flavors have assimilated to a palate not accustomed to the true strength of the spices. Birdsong is a remedy. They do not offer the pad thai that has become a staple, no longer exotic but to its detriment. (A digression. The history of pad thai, with contested origins, is fascinating. As you delve into these matters, you see how syncretic culture is. You also are exposed to the efforts to fashion a unifying mythology.) We ordered the chicken, the shrimp, the crab fried rice, the papaya salad, and the enhancement. The chicken and the shrimp were quality ingredients, prepared well. Although both proteins were fried, they felt clean. The crab fried rice was one option of many with the rice base. The papaya salad was fresh. The enhancement was radish with "fermented daikon, garlic, red onion, cilantro, palm sugar, and fish sauce scrambled with eggs for a balanced savory and sweet flavor," and the portion was generous: we put it on the rice, then I finished it off in an omelet the next morning. We have traveled to Bangkok. Thai spiciness exceeds what I would endorse, and I love hot dishes. Birdsong was much milder, though with sufficient pepperiness my wife, who does not share my preferences, remarked it was closer to her limit. They will work with you in this respect, and I'm confident I could request something that would test my capabilities. That is, in my book, all positive. The dishes that were mild according to the menu, were mild, but they were flavorful. If you do not like fish sauce, for example, you may not appreciate the offerings, which if they don't have fish sauce have something along those lines. I hope Birdsong fares well.

We were looking forward to eating at Birdsong, which has gotten great reviews. A few friends said…read morethat they went and loved it. But we thought only one of the four dishes we ordered was especially good, I wouldn't order the other three again. The Basil Shrimp - described as "Battered and golden fried" seemed more like tempura. I wouldn't have ordered if I knew. The Tom Yum soup was good, but very pricey at $25. For comparison, a similarly sized, likely an even larger entree Tom Yum soup at Bambu is $14. It had lots of noodles. We were sharing, and asked our server for recommendations- she suggested a second dish with the same noodles. Usually a server points out if diners are ordering two dishes with the same base ingredient (noodles) but our server actually suggested the second one. Seriously? And unfortunately, it was underwhelming, just blah. We left most of it. We got the chocolate crème brûlée, the presentation was very nice, with gilded peanuts on top. The taste was just so so, sweet but not much chocolate flavor. We liked the decor and the atmosphere was nice. We loved the bird mural. Service was mixed. Our server was friendly, but could have been more helpful. First, the recommendation for a second dish with the same noodles was not a good one. We asked if we could share everything, including the soup. We specifically asked if they could put it into bowls for us. They brought two bowls, but we had to wait a while for a spoon to divide it ourselves at the table. She ended up bringing us one of those small soup spoons that you often use for soup at Chinese restaurants. It was around the same size as a regular soup spoon. Apparently they didn't have anything that is more like a ladle, and it was not very useful for portioning out the soup. We thought we'd love this restaurant, but it was a miss for us tonight. Not only that, and this is on us, the only dish with any real nutrition or healthy ingredients was the soup. For one "small plate" appetizer, two entrées and one dessert, the total was just under $100.

Cannot overstate how nice the bar and restaurant ambience is which is fine-dining level but with a everyday casual service and menu. The aptly named "Kraken" is fantastic. 10/10, no notes. Actually a value at 200 bucks if it's your dinner. The lobster roll was 45 bucks and that is exorbitant, but given everything under Trump :)...not surprising.. I've had this review in DRAFT for a while, to allow time for rumination as to the final rating…read more.. On the one hand, there are some very positive aspects to Beth's, situated in downtown about a 10 min walk from the Bethesda Metro Station. Turn off Old Georgetown Road onto Fairmont Ave, and the first thing you encounter is a beautiful outdoor patio for al fresco dining and a large bar. The colors are vibrant with a focus on Southwestern earth tones; very reminiscent of a cafe you'd find in Sedona. It was still on the chilly side when my dinner group gathered, so we opted to sit indoors. There is a small waiting area in the foyer, and then a moderately sized bar, which leads into the main dining room. TBH, the design asthetic of the space is a bit of a "mishmash." Is it supposed to be European inspired? A continuation of the Southwestern motif? It's all a bit odd... We had about eight in the party, so staff pushed together two tables for us. We were greeted promptly and were told that the restaurant could accomodate individual checks, as ordering is done with handheld devices. My other observation about Beth's is, I'm not quite sure what "story," the place is trying to tell. The menu focuses on "Bites," which could be interpreted as "appetizers" and only has four "plates," aka "entrees." Our server mentioned while awaiting our orders that Beth's wants diners to share the "Bites" with a spotlight on their cocktail selections. So is Beth's trying to be a tapas bar then? I opted for the recommended Purple Rain which consists of Gin, lavender, lime; mostly because I LOVE a nice herbal Gin. The distinctive flavor of juniper berries from the gin was present, while the floral notes from the lavendar and citrus of the lime balanced out the drink. I was pleasantly surprised. Food started arriving after about 20 min, and visually the barley risotto was quite appealing. Instead of short or medium grain rice, Beth's uses the ancient cereal grain barley. It is slow cooked in stock to produce that slightly chewy, yet not undercooked mouth feel. USDA choice braised beef short ribs was stewed until fork tender, and the dish was finished off with Parmigiano Reggiano, and butter. For $24, the plate was a good portion size and very tasty. I dunno. I sampled some of the small plates such as the Brussel Sprouts, crunchy ravioli, crispy spring roll...and everything was fine. Not outstanding...not terrible...but just fine. The kitchen seems to be competent, so it would be interesting to see a menu where more main dishes were offered for diners who want a more substantial meal. The other thing I'll note is, due to the extremely high ceilings, the main dining space is a deafening echo chamber. I was hoarse by evening's end, since I was literally yelling over not just the background music, but the other nearby diners. Just keep this in mind that if you're seeking a quiet and cozy spot, either dine outdoors or come early. After some reflection, I settle on 4 stars. Service was good with water glasses constantly refilled, dirty dishes removed, to-go boxes offered, and the ability for separate billing. Price wise, for one alcoholic beverage, and one entree my tab with tax and tip came to a bit over $50. Automatic gratuity was added for the table since we had over 5 people. I appreciate the server informing us so we didn't "double tip."

We came into Beth's this past Sunday for a brunch before the snow storm. It was our first time here…read moreand here so here's a quick first impression based on our brunch. The atmosphere is fun and creative and probably ideal for a date or a group of adults. It might not be the greatest atmosphere for smaller kids or a family on a time budget. Inside is dimly lit with upscale decor including a paneled pop out faux cafe front, maybe French quarter-ish style, wall on one side. On the other is a mural. (I think it was a tree and mountains hidden behind some panels.) If I were to describe it, I would use the words, New Orleans meets modern art. They also have an outdoor space, where the faux cafe wall extends. This would be an ideal place to have an outdoor brunch any day, but this day of course. The menu does say new American, but I think that means that they have a little bit of everything plus steaks and burgers. To start the meal, they dropped an assortment of baked goods for the table, including a biscuit, a mini fruit tart and something that tasted like a blintz. It was carbohydrate heaven. We added a shared a baked brie appetizer that was excellent as well. For the main course we shared a Turkish breakfast plate, as well as some steak and eggs. I washed things down with a Bloody Mary from their brunch drink menu. My steak and eggs were cooked to perfection and the Turkish breakfast was very flavorful. The baked Brie was excellent for sharing and I really liked my bloody Mary. Overall, we enjoyed the atmosphere and the food. A good part of that was the excellent service provided by the staff from start to finish. I think it's a terrific brunch spot and somewhere I would recommend for some fun bites and a couple of drinks.
