We were looking for a last-minute place to enjoy Valentine celebration. We found this hole in the wall place and it was a fantastic experience. Very crowded & reminded me a little of New York City but this sits in North Bethesda. Tables end to end, all full and a little live music in the background. The food was outstanding highly recommend the.Picadera Cubana - it will easily serves 2! Steak, chorizo, shrimp, fried yucca, chicken and calamari in a rich sauce. Great taste! Reservations for Cubano's can be made on Open Table.

The restaurante is well decorated and does well bringing a Cuban accent with details, pictures and some rustic furniture. The service was good and they are not all over you, they give you your space to think, eat, digest and finish your meal. The taste was really good. I ordered to start my meal some empanadas with a homemade garlic/cilantro side sauce and it was on point. As main dish I had chicken soup with a side of Tostones. The soup was really good and its not a pre- made version. Its homemade. The tostones fried just right. Finally a small Cuban coffee "cortadito", needless to say was the right choice.

Authentic Cuban food nestled in a quaint spot. The food was on point. Ropa vieja all the way. The drinks were good and the service was very quick. This is a definite place to go over and over again.

What an amazing little restaurant tucked away in Bethesda. My husband came across Cubanos when he ordered delivery and loved it so much, we had to try it in person. We've actually been several times now and each time, the food is absolutely delicious. We've tried everything from the empanadas, the lunch snapper (Varadero), the dinner whole fried snapper, the seafood soup (Caldoso de Mar), the steak and Cuban sandwich, to the croquettes. Of everything we tried, the croquettes were my least favorite but they were still tasty. The soup was fantastic. It kind of reminds me of a bouillabaisse, but maybe even better. The snapper lunch dish and the whole fried snapper are delicious. Both are served with this decadent coconut rice that almost tastes too good to eat. The sandwiches were outstanding. Crunchy bread on the outside, with soft fresh bread on the inside, packed with meats and dipping sauce. And in case you saved room for dessert, you have to try the quatros Leches. Everything about the food was amazing and worth coming back for. The ambience is great. You walk in to this small restaurant and feel like you're transported to a tiny Cuban cafe. The walls are decorated top to bottom with different wall papers or decorative art. I love that in the background, there's great music playing but at a very manageable decibel, so that you can still talk and hear one another easily. The service was great. Our waiters have always been attentive and made great recommendations as to what to try. I look forward to going back and trying something new, though I love what we've had so far and would be absolutely happy ordering those again too.

This is such a pleasant surprise. A friend invited me out and it's been so long since I had Cuban food so I was very excited and they lived up to all my expectations. We went on a Thursday which turns out to be the day they have happy hour all night. Those mojitos are top notch. We started with a mini Cuban sandwich, the octopus, empanadas and shrimp which were all so full of flavor and cooked to perfection. I got the shrimp plate with bean and plantains and the beans are excellent. The food was so good I had to come back the next Thursday with my man. Excellent food and even better service. Definitely check them out

    Picadera Cubana and Ropa Vieja

Our party of four came here on a cool Sunday for a nice and easy dinner. The experience was great and the food was delicious! We ordered the three entrees and one of the entree had enough portion for two. Big entree - Picadera Cubana $60: as you can see from the second picture attached below, this big oval dish had everything. The sauce below the meat and yuca and fries were amazing! The beans and rice that came it was complemented the meats really well! The yuca and the calamari were definitely my favorite part of this dish. For $60, it's definitely on point. Ropa Vieja - $28: this shredded beef over a bed of rice is pretty good! The beef is marinated well. Unfortunately, the serving size is a bit underwhelming. A+ for taste, C- for size. Not included in the picture is the $28 Lechon. This slow roasted pork dish is essentially the shredded pork version of Ropa Vieja. The seasoning and sauce aren't as heavy as Ropa Vieja, so this dish is light in terms of flavor. But, the taste was still great. Service: it was good! Our waters were constantly refilled and the staff was nice. $127ish post tax is not bad for a good meal for four people in Bethesda! Music is a bit loud, but the two babies slept through it.

This is an awesome Cuban restaurant in Bethesda. I enjoyed everything I had here. The croquetas were crispy and I liked the sauce they came with. The arepitas de lechon were good too. It was like a crispy fried thick taco with toppings. The chargrilled octopus was cooked well. My favorite was the caraminola. I never had this dish before so I was pleasantly surprised. It was crispy and fried on the outside and the inside was filled with tomato sauce and meat so it wasn't dry. The mojitos here were also great. The service was good and I liked the cozy atmosphere.

We enjoyed everything: the starter, entrees, and desserts. Service was excellent; we had a main waiter and another kid who helped out. It was a nice vibe for a Valentines dinner. The live musician, the cozy environment and a good crowd all made for a nice first experience at Cubano's.

This place never disappoints…read more I've been here multiple times -- with family, on dates, and with friends -- and it's always a great experience. This most recent visit was with a friend who was trying it for the first time, and he loved it. The food was delicious as always. He had the arroz con pollo (which I recommended), and I had the camarones al ajillo -- shrimp in garlic sauce with rice, salad, and plantains. Everything was flavorful and perfectly cooked. The bartenders were so pleasant and attentive. We sat at the bar, and even though it was crowded (which it usually is -- a good sign!), the service was still great. Now let's talk about the drinks because they were the real stars:    *   My friend had three mango margaritas and couldn't stop talking about how good they were.    *   I tried the cucumber jalapeño margarita -- you could literally smell the fresh cucumber as they made it. It did not hold back on the jalapeño! It had a real kick, but the flavor was amazing.    *   And the mojitos? Delicious. They use real sugarcane, and you can taste the freshness. Great vibes, great service, consistently amazing food and drinks. I will absolutely keep coming back and always recommend this place.

They have good drink options which was nice for a group which all had different tastes. We started with appetizers, including the chicken empanadas, the tuna tacos, and ceviche sampler. The chicken empanadas were good, if not particularly memorable. But had a nice crunch on the shell and the inside had a nice savory flavor and not dry. The tuna tacos, which didn't have the most appetizing color, was also tasty. The tuna was tender and balanced well with the crispy shell. The ceviche sampler was also delicious, each one having a different flavor profile. I liked the tigre de leche the best in terms of the acidity and brightness. I just wish the ceviche had some kind of vessel to eat it with. One of the ceviche had plantain chips which was nice but I wanted more. Without it, the texture is just one note. For the main dishes, we got the lomo saltado and the aji de gallina which are two, iconic Peruvian dishes. Both were just meh. The aji was the better of the two. The sauce was flavored well with the creaminess of the sauce not overwhelming the garlic and tumeric flavors. But the rice was SUPER dry, almost crunchy. The lomo saltado was even worse. The beef was overly cooked, some pieces were very sinewy and chewy. It was also overly salty and the veggie to meat ratio heavily favored the veggies and made the dish feel cheap. Overall, it was fine but given the options for Peruvian in DC, not sure this deserves 4 stars+.

Their mojito is exactly how it should be: super refreshing, light, and not overly sweet. I also tried the frozen piña colada, and it genuinely transports you with every sip. So good. Food-wise, you really can't go wrong. The yuca & tostones basket is a must every time - perfectly crispy with a slight tang from the sauce that keeps you going back for more. I've had both the chicken and beef empanadas, and adding a little of the sauces they serve with them just brings everything together. I was a little hesitant about the maduros envueltos en tocino (plantains wrapped in bacon), but they completely surprised me - in the best way. Sweet, savory, and honestly addictive. And the Cuban sandwich? Top notch. You can tell they've really nailed the bread, which makes all the difference. Everything also comes with a side of greens in a light vinaigrette, which balances things out so you don't leave feeling too heavy. The vibe is lowkey with dim lighting and always great music playing - perfect for a date night or just catching up with friends. The servers are always very attentive and polite, which makes the experience even better. They also have a separate smoke room where you can wind down with a Cuban cigar, and the prices are pretty reasonable. Definitely a spot I keep coming back to.
