First of all, forget Jose P's review saying that they lost their liquor license! They do have one and they made a couple great Mojitos for me! We met the couple who owns this place back in 2018 on a cruise and I've been meaning to stop by every time we're in the area. Today we made it happen! So happy we did! Must say that this appears to be more of a later neighborhood. We arrived shortly before 4 PM and almost every restaurant in the neighborhood was empty, even though they had happy hours. Cubano's was no exception. My wife and I were the only patrons. The Restaurant itself is beautifully set up! Truly enjoyed it. We ordered AREPITAS DE LECHON and CROQUETAS DE JAMON SERRANO to start, including our adult beverages! The dishes were superb! We both truly enjoyed the arepitas de lechon! Way yummy! A lovely way to start our late lunch. For our main courses, my wife ordered their happy hour chicken empanadas and I ordered the avocado salad. I really thought the chicken empanadas were beyond small. That said it fit my wife's appetite just fine. My avocado salad was delicious as well! If we lived in the area, I know we would be returning on a regular basis. As it is now, we'll have to wait till our next trip through the area. Keep up the great work Adolfo! read more

I have come here several times. My family is from Cuba, and I grew up on home-cooked Cuban food. Cubano has been the closest I've found to authentic. Unfortunately, this last time was disappointing. First, they lost their liquor license, so forget the mojitos, daiquiris, or even a beer. The most iconic Cuban meal is "ropa vieja," which we ordered. It is shredded beef, rice, black beans, and "maduros" (fried plantains). Unfortunately, the beef was cooked in way too much canned tomato sauce. It did not taste authentic at all. Still good, but disappointing. The only person working was the bartender, which slowed service. He was nice, and fortunately for us, many people came in and left when they found out they could not order drinks. Otherwise, the service would have been really bad. The music was great as they played all Cuban music, which I love. Overall, I feel like this place may not be around much longer, which is a shame. The food is still good, but they are starting to cut corners, and without the liquor license, it's clear that they are not going to get folks to stay. read more

Great service, mojitos, and happy hour specials! Was able to sit at the bar for a quick weekday happy hour meal. The bartender/host was super nice and gave great food recs and makes a great mojito. The mojito even came with fresh sugarcane which is hard to come by. For food, I tried the garlic shrimp, AREPITAS, and spanish omelet which all came out fast, hot, and tasted delicious. We were looking for a last-minute place to enjoy Valentine celebration. We found this hole in the wall place and it was a fantastic experience. Very crowded & reminded me a little of New York City but this sits in North Bethesda. Tables end to end, all full and a little live music in the background. The restaurante is well decorated and does well bringing a Cuban accent with details, pictures and some rustic furniture. The service was good and they are not all over you, they give you your space to think, eat, digest and finish your meal. The taste was really good. This is such a pleasant surprise. A friend invited me out and it's been so long since I had Cuban food so I was very excited and they lived up to all my expectations. We went on a Thursday which turns out to be the day they have happy hour all night. Those mojitos are top notch. We started with a mini Cuban sandwich, the octopus, empanadas and shrimp which were all so full of flavor and cooked to perfection. I got the shrimp plate with bean and plantains and the beans are excellent. The food was so good I had to come back the next Thursday with my man. Excellent food and even better service. What an amazing little restaurant tucked away in Bethesda. My husband came across Cubanos when he ordered delivery and loved it so much, we had to try it in person. We've actually been several times now and each time, the food is absolutely delicious. We've tried everything from the empanadas, the lunch snapper (Varadero), the dinner whole fried snapper, the seafood soup (Caldoso de Mar), the steak and Cuban sandwich, to the croquettes. Of everything we tried, the croquettes were my least favorite but they were still tasty. The soup was fantastic. It kind of reminds me of a bouillabaisse, but maybe even better. The snapper lunch dish and the whole fried snapper are delicious. Both are served with this decadent coconut rice that almost tastes too good to eat. The sandwiches were outstanding. Crunchy bread on the outside, with soft fresh bread on the inside, packed with meats and dipping sauce. And in case you saved room for dessert, you have to try the quatros Leches. Everything about the food was amazing and worth coming back for. The ambience is great. You walk in to this small restaurant and feel like you're transported to a tiny Cuban cafe. The walls are decorated top to bottom with different wall papers or decorative art. I love that in the background, there's great music playing but at a very manageable decibel, so that you can still talk and hear one another easily. The service was great. Our waiters have always been attentive and made great recommendations as to what to try. Saw their promotion for the Savor Bethesda Restaurant Week. There were just four patrons for weekday lunch. The three-course came with: 1. Three pieces Big Tequenos (instead of five pieces on the regular menu). 2. Arepa (the bun; not the Burger). 3. Cuban Flan (to choose vanilla or coconut). It was pretty basic, and I needed more flavah, more avocado, less brown salad bits in my salad. Not a good start. Our party of four came here on a cool Sunday for a nice and easy dinner. The experience was great and the food was delicious! We ordered the three entrees and one of the entree had enough portion for two. Big entree - Picadera Cubana $60: as you can see from the second picture attached below, this big oval dish had everything. The sauce below the meat and yuca and fries were amazing! The beans and rice that came it was complemented the meats really well! The yuca and the calamari were definitely my favorite part of this dish. For $60, it's definitely on point. Ropa Vieja - $28: this shredded beef over a bed of rice is pretty good! The beef is marinated well. Unfortunately, the serving size is a bit underwhelming. A+ for taste, C- for size. Not included in the picture is the $28 Lechon. This slow roasted pork dish is essentially the shredded pork version of Ropa Vieja. The seasoning and sauce aren't as heavy as Ropa Vieja, so this dish is light in terms of flavor. But, the taste was still great. Service: it was good! Our waters were constantly refilled and the staff was nice. $127ish post tax is not bad for a good meal for four people in Bethesda! This is an awesome Cuban restaurant in Bethesda. I enjoyed everything I had here. The croquetas were crispy and I liked the sauce they came with. The arepitas de lechon were good too. It was like a crispy fried thick taco with toppings. The chargrilled octopus was cooked well. My favorite was the caraminola. I never had this dish before so I was pleasantly surprised. I came here on a Monday evening with a few friends. The restaurant is a-bit small but it wasn't too busy so it wasn't too bad. The foods are mixes of good and average. The epanadas and Le chon was great but the burger & Cubano is sort of dry. The happy hour Sangria is great, it wasn't top shelf stuff but wasn't terrible and for $5 it was a great deal. Went here 7/24/23 with my homegirl around 6:30pm. We sat at the bar and was serviced by Julio M who was amazing btw. We were the only ones in the restaurant until about 30 minutes prior to departure. The offer happy hour 3pm to 6pm. It's street parking. I started off with Cuban Pina Colada and my homegirl got Tito's straight. Baby I was babysitting my drink. Finally a drink that I can taste the alcohol. Food wise I got the Platano rolls. I could only eat one. It was so filling. As an entree I got the palomillo steak with spinach, rice, black beans and my friend ordered the soup of the day under starters. The soup of the day was flavorful but yet light. The steak wasn't as tender as I like but than again I ordered medium well. The rice was buttery and seasoned. The black beans were seasoned well. The spinach was garlicky. Highly recommend this spot. Then a mini Cuban sandwich brought three small flavorful bites of pork and sauce. The reduced price reflected a smaller portion than the full priced version so not really much of a savings. Then on to arepitas de lechon. Pork on top of bread base with onions and flavorings. Really good. Gambas al ajillo was a winner. 4 large shrimp in this decadent butter garlic sauce. The 4th pick was empanadas de picadillo. Pork and olives inside deep fried casing. Flavor was there, but I am not a deep frier advocate for health reasons. Let's me start by saying you guys have the best piña colada's if the food taste as good as the drinks I would've given this place a 5 start but sadly it did not meat my expectations. The tucán con mojo was more of yuca with tomato soup, the yuca ball was not Fully heated. The ropa vieja was super dry with a pinch of rice, beans had some Flavor but again did not Meat my expectation. The waiter asked us if the food was good here I had to be honest but I wish I could say I enjoyed every bite but once again for the amount this restaurant charged they should def look into fixing some of the plates and their ingredients. Lovely hole in the wall spot with good service, cute decorated interior. Had a mojito while waiting for the food. For apps we tried the croquetas de jamón serrano which were good, and some squid. For my entree ordered the palomilla steak which was delicious. They let me sub out the plantain for a side salad since I'm not a fan of those. The portion was a good size, had to take the rest home.
