Camarones en aguacate (jumbo shrimp, avocado, lime)
Jill S.

I have been dining here for many years, and the food is consistently good. Also, the people working here are very nice and welcoming. It's probably the best Cuban food in Maryland. Some favorites are: ropa vieja (stewed shredded beef), maduros (fried plantain), camarones al ajillo (shrimp in garlic sauce), camarones en aguacate (shrimp with avocado and garlic sauce), but everything I've tried has been delicious. The location can sneak up on people, but there is plenty of parking on the side and back. They have a good weekday happy hour in a small bar area with specials on small bites and drinks.

The oxtails were so flavorful and tender. They also give you a bunch of meat. Then when you finish you mix the rice with the sauce. So goooood. Then the beans had some spices to it that was so savory. Plantains and croquettes were just ok, probably wouldn't get again. My bro got ropa vieja and that's was really good too. But oxtail is best dish there. Really friendly staff, I asked what they put in the beans and the waiter went to the back to give me a full rundown. Everyone was nice. The price was fair as well.

I was here in July. Completely forgot to review this place. This a truly authentic Cuban restaurant. They even make and sell their own hot sauce. I order the chicken and rice. My wife ordered the shrimp dish. We had appetizers of empanadas. I sampled the chicken and guava ones. Service was excellent. We didn't have to wait too long for our food. The decor of the restaurant gave it that Caribbean feel. If we are ever in the area again, my wife and I will definitely dine again here.

Best Cuban food around! I've eaten here for years but it's been awhile. My most recent visit was for a take-out order. I was able to easily place the order online through their website. My order was ready when I arrived. I really enjoyed the ropa vieja with a side of white rice and black beans and tostones. Everything was delicious and filling. I'm happy knowing this awesome business is still thriving. I plan to visit sooner rather than later!

Aguacate con Camarones

I like this neighborhood gem. The food was straightforwardly delectable (especially if you are a sweet tooth) and seating area was spacious. Food - Camarones en Aguacate: The shrimps in the starter are plump and fresh with refreshing lemon juice. Yet a little pricy for what expected from a $18 homestyle dish. - Bistec Palomilla: I am a lover of onion-sautéed meat -- the subtle sweetness is lifting. Steak is fully cooked, so a little bit fimer than I usually prefer, yet still very satisfying overall. - Ropa Vieja: Warm and tasty--loved how the seasoned, shredded beef felt so comforting with the rice. Service was friendly, and the ambiance--warm and inviting--fit the homestyle theme perfectly.

Absolutely loved this Cuban restaurant! The food was delicious and felt truly authentic, and the atmosphere was fantastic. It honestly reminded me of being back in Miami! The prices are a little on the higher side, but the quality and flavors of the food definitely made it worth it. Would absolutely come back!

10 out of 10 stars!! it was so cute, they had real candles on the table. But please be careful because the lady behind us was holding her menu and it started burning from the candle. We didn't have a reservation, but we're able to sit down quickly. The food was amazing in our server was able to give us recommendations. We were so full, but we had to try the rum cake and it did not go to waste. We will definitely be back.!

Beef Empanadas

Visited for my here for birthday. The restaurant is small but has ample seating. Our server was adequate could have been more attentive. I ordered the Empanadas for my appetizer they were flavorful and hot. The beef was better than the chicken. My main dish was Ropa Vieja. The beef was chewy, the tostones and rice were good. I got the red beans vs the black beans. The red beans were really good. I got the Tres Leches for dessert. It was good, nice and moist. I would got back again to try another dish.

This was our first time eating here, and it was really good. It was late afternoon on a Sunday, and the place had a decent number of people there. Even though we didn't have a reservation, we were seated right away. The server was prompt and polite, and I felt that we were well attended to. We started with the combination appetizer, which was good. I had the Churrasco Cubano, and my wife had the Picadillo. She enjoyed her meal but mentioned that it had just a little too much salt. Additionally, I ordered a Cuban sandwich to go, which tasted really good even though I ate it later. The presentation of the food was also impressive. I definitely plan on coming back, even though it's kind of far from where I live. I would recommend this restaurant.

The food was delicious. The steak was juicy and the service was great and attentive. The family always loves coming here as we know the food is good and we will be well taken care of.

Avocado pico

Wow! What a great experience across the board. Food, service and ambiance! I stopped in for lunch and had the most amazing meal. My server, Daisha was on it. Couldn't ask for better service. The food was the star of the show. I ordered the Lechon Asado which is a Cuban marinated pork. It comes with rice, beans, and plantains. I asked for a side of the avocado pico (extra $1.29) which was out of this world. I'd recommend getting this with any dish you order. It's so fresh and full of flavors. The restaurant is beautiful with plenty of seating. The bar area is a bit small, so I'd be curious to see what it's like during HH or when they get busy. I most definitely will be back for more!!!!

Tres Empanadas

Everything was so good! We only had a couple of appetizers that included the chicken, beef, and guava & cheese Empanadas and a tostones dish with shrimp in it. I also had a pretty good guava mojito. The service was prompt. I'll be back!

Do they still have happy hour? Nothing is mentioned on their website.

Is it authentic Cuban food?

Yep, from the Ropa Vieja to the Pernil and Cubano the meats definitely taste like home. Likewise, I smile every time they ask if you want the side of arroz y frijoles negros or moros y cristianos. Platanos Maduros and tostones are authentic as well.…

The meal arrived packed to go, even though I had said I would eat it there. The portion was not particularly generous. The chicken itself was tender and juicy, and the only thing that saved this from the shameful single star. The rice was dry and lukewarm, the cabbage was blanched to a nice crisp/crunchy but utterly devoid of seasoning. The curry sauce might have been the biggest disappointment. No complexity, I only tasted salt and heat. Last straw, I had to ask for a key to the restroom. To add insult to injury, as I continued to shop. I found that the next three businesses were also eateries. Well, now I know and you do too. This joint belongs in a mall food court. Big fat MEH.

Island Quizine's setup was nice and clean, the line was reasonable, and we thought, "Why not?" Well... we found out why. I ordered the small white meat jerk meal for $20, my guy got the dark meat jerk meal for $25, and we ordered the kids the jumbo wing platter with an extra side for $30. Grand total: $84 with tax. First of all, the jerk was NOT jerking. AT ALL! The chicken was covered in a brown sauce that was giving everything except authentic jerk seasoning. No spice, no smoky jerk flavor, no Caribbean vibes. It tasted more like something I'd grab from a mall food court. Then came the portions. My $20 white-meat meal was a few slices of boneless chicken breast that I'm pretty sure didn't even add up to half a breast. The $25 dark-meat meal had about four small thighs. But the one that really sent me was the $30 jumbo wing platter... with THREE wings. Three. For thirty American dollars. For $84, we could've gone to a sit down restaurant, had someone bring the food to our table, and probably still spent about the same amount for better quality, better portions, and better tasting food. The setup was beautiful, clean, and inviting...I'll absolutely give them that. But the food and value did not come close to matching the prices. We walked away feeling like we had just participated in a financial transaction we did not fully understand. I definitely wouldn't do it again.

When I tell you that oxtail was falling off the bone? 10/10. The brown stew chicken was flavorful, tender, and cooked just right. The cabbage was seasoned perfectly, not soggy, not bland. Everything on that plate hit. No complaints about the food whatsoever. The space itself is small, clean, and minimally decorated. Nothing fancy, but very well-kept, and I appreciate that. Service was good. The owner personally took care of me and accommodated my request to swap out the rice for extra cabbage with no issue. I always appreciate when owners are hands-on and attentive. Now for the hiccup: the credit card machine wasn't working, so I had to pay via Cash App. Not ideal, but okay. What almost took me out was the attempt to add a service charge. I definitely spoke up because that extra $1? Yeah... it was about the principle. Sheesh. Overall, the positives outweighed the minor inconvenience. The food alone would have me coming back. And for me, that says a lot.

After having parked nearby, we explored the spot. One side was where you would order food and drinks (no seating on this side). The other side had tables and chairs, including a full bar, and a large outdoor area - it was nice being outdoors when the sun was not hot (although I did see umbrellas and many covered areas out there in the back). Our event had a DJ as well. The overall layout of the place was nice, where I would revisit the business and maybe have my own party. This review is more for the carryout side. At the time, we were not trying to get a full meal, just something to snack on. I saw they had several patties available and when asked what they had, there were many choices. I don't remember all the choices they mentioned, but I do remember these: Beef, Chicken, Shrimp, Goat and Mutton. I got a Chicken Patty and a Mutton Patty - never tried either before my visit here. For drink, I got a Ting and Mango Passion juice (sold in a bottle). The Mango Passion juice cost a lot more than each of the other items I got. When we got our order, the patties were in a different bag, but the employee who was on the bar side couldn't tell us which was which. It was a bit of confusion, and we had to determine which was which for ourselves (I was not a fan of that). Both patties ended up being good. I had the Chicken and another in my group had the Mutton. I love Ting - it is one of my favorites. It's a drink flavored with both grapefruit juice and cane sugar. I got a chance to taste a little of the Mango Passion juice and could taste both flavors in the drink. Not sure I would pay that cost again though. Today, I gave them another shot because Uber Eats was offering a buy one, get one free deal on the jerk chicken meal. I chose rice & peas with plantain for my sides. The chicken was cooked on the grill--which I love--because it really brings out the flavor in jerk chicken. I also requested my jerk sauce on the side since I prefer a dry rub style over a saucy one. The only drawback was the small bone pieces in the chicken and rice. That's something to be cautious about, especially if a child is eating the meal. The plantains were also inconsistent--some pieces were hard, while others were mushy. On the bright side, the coco bread was perfect and the Jamaican rum cake was phenomenal. Whoever baked that cake clearly took their time soaking it in rum. It reminded me of the way my grandmother used to make it--absolutely delicious. I would definitely order the rum cake again.
