Im part Rican, and let me tell you its not many Rican or Dominican restaurants in the DMV. The ones that I've been to have been a disappointmented. Im start with the good stuff.. The Sancocho is amazing. Its a hearty meat stew that in my family we call it the hang over soup or the feel better soup. Growing up if I had the flu or a cold my mama would whip this up. Their soup was good... but I wish it had tripe and more meat in the stew and a bit more seasonings. Would i order it again? Probably not. Mofongo. Something that I absolutely love.. I stopped by La Case Del Mofongo because my other lunch plans fell through. LIke the name of the restaurant suggest, this place has a large selection of mofongos on its menu. Unfortunately, due to bad past experiences with mofongo from other places, I decided to skip the mofongo and go for a guisada (stew). Generally speaking the beef stew, which was served with beans and rice was decent. However, for my tastes, the stew seemed to be really greasy/fatty. I do not think that I ever had a guisado with so many fat droplets in the "soup". Also, I thought the beef was a bit tough/chewy for a stew; I was expecting the meat to be a bit more tender. While the stew was not horrible, I will say that I was a bit disappointed that I spent $20 on it. Since this is a Domincan restaurant, a little Spanish might go a long way. Overall, I thought the staff was nice. However, this appears to be a place where the staff knows a lot of the customers (or at least the Latino customers), so you might feel a bit like a persona non grata upon entry. However, they'll probably will warm up to you after a few minutes. While I somewhat enjoyed my stew, I really enjoyed my margaritas more. Since I'm still new to the area, I might check out some other Latin/Dominican restaurants before circling back around this restaurant. read more

I'm a Dominican who moved to MD from NYC/Washingon Heights (95% of that area's restaurants are Dominican-owned and staffed so the food is like eating at home). I regularly order carryout from CDM (live too far for delivery) and if you are looking for some amazing mofongo, pork belly, carne guisada, etc. look no further! The menu is not very extensive but that means they can focus on the items they serve so everything is good - I've tried several "Dominican" restaurants in the area and have never gone back to any of them. Pls note that while they have dine-in space this is a place you go to for the food and amazing service - there's a lot that can be done to elevate the ambiance to minimize the "carryout"' vibe, but the food and service (and passion fruit mojitos!) are amazing so it's worth it.. read more

Hole in a wall type of spot, but as we all know these type of places tend to be great. The place was pretty simple but who cares since the food is amazing. Tip: If you're looking for Mofongo and Trifongo, this is the place to go. La Casa Del Mofongo has made the list of family favorites. The customer service is great, the portions are generous and the food is excellent. We came for dinner and the place wasn't busy, however, a good bit of people came after us and it immediately became alive and poppin. There's a full bar inside the restaurant that you can sit and eat while having an adult drink or casual dine in, at the tables. Do yourself a favor and add this to your foodie list! ORDER: * Queen Frito * We ordered fried cheese which was amazing. I could eat a serving all to myself if I didn't have to share. I've tried fried cheese at other restaurants and this takes the cake. They brought out ketchup and a sauce that reminded me of ketchup mixed with mayonnaise (I've done this mixture to dip French fries in - don't ask just try it). The queso frito is good by itself or with either dipping sauce. * Trifongo * Trifongo is a go to for me. It didn't disappoint. The blend of smashed fried green plantains, fried sweet plantains, and boiled yuca; chef's kiss. It came with a delicious sauce that jazzed it up, however not needed if you're not into the sauce. Either way, it was good. * Bisteak * Another go to is bisteak. Beef married with sautéed onions and fresh rice was delicious. The beef was tender and flavorful. A side of beens came with this entree. The beans were nicely cooked. * Carne Asada * Juicy beef with raw sliced onions and rice. This is probably the best carne asada I've had. The fact it wasn't dry or drenched in a sauce to mask the dryness was pleasing. The beef was tender and as mentioned, juicy - yum! Accompanied by fresh rice. SIDES: * Yuca * Fried yuca is always good paired with any meal or by itself. DESSERT: * Flan & Tres Leches * My family is divided into team flan and team tres leches so we ordered a slice of both. You really can't go wrong with either or in my opinion. DRINKS * Mango Mojito & Bailey's Pina Colada * Both drinks were nicely made. They definitely weren't stingy with the alcohol and came in big glasses. Highly recommend having a drink with your meal. SERVICE: Excellent and patient while you explore the menu to decide what you want. Food corks out fresh and I love the fact the rice is covered until it's brought to you. LOCATION/FACILITY: This gem is nestled in a small business strip off 495 and Georgia Avenue. You can't miss it! PARKING: Public parking came be found next to the business strip off the Georgie Avenue. Free on the weekend. Otherwise be prepared to pay the meter. SEATING: Indoor tables and a full bar This place is a nice family or friend casual spot. The full bar and tv plying a sport game added to the casual atmosphere. I've been looking for a place that serves Mofongo, because it is one of my favorites! I finally found this place and when I say it was GOOD, it was exactly what I was looking for outside of Puerto Rico! We ordered the shrimp Mofongo Al ajillo (with garlic). They have many other proteins to choose from like chicken and pork. The portion was just right, they have Mango juice, flan and tres leches cake. The service is quick and friendly! My cousins and I stopped here for lunch on a Friday afternoon. It is a part of a shopping strip off street so if you're not paying attention, you can miss it. I dropped my two cousins off while I circled around looking for parking. There is an adjacent lot next to the building with paid parking. Limited spots are available in the front, maybe 4 or 5. The server was nice but the service itself was lacking. My cousins had placed their orders by the time I arrived inside. I waited for the server for a few minutes but ended up having to go to the bar myself to place my order. I ordered the lunch carne guisada, the same as one of my cousins. I also added a side of platanos Fritos. Their orders came out first. That I understood. I kept being told that my order would be out. About 20 minutes go by, my server comes to tell me that they are out of carne guisada. It was no where near packed in there. The other customers came in after us so if that was the last of the carne guisada, shouldn't they have known that from when my cousin was served? I replaced the beef with chicken. That eventually came out without the platanos so I had to reiterate that I wanted an order of them. The food was just merely ok. As a Cubana, I was expecting more flavor from our distant neighbor. If I were to visit this establishment again, it would be just for the lunch special. I can't see myself spending more than $10 here. I was also charged incorrectly. My bill was for carne guisada. I once again had to go to the bar and wait to get the issue corrected. She tried to tell me that I ordered the guisada, which is true but that is not what I received. read more

Us to try La casa da mofongo The food was simply delicious (I'll highly recommend) this restaurant. The food was fresh made to order when we walked in we felt like we was actually waking in to our families home. The restaurant was so clean very spacious available take out & dining in was available. Also customer service was warm & accommodating when we walking in we was immediately greeted. The lady that was our waitress was so nice & explaining the difference things on the menu. The food is delicious!! Please hurry here. I had mofongo con camarones and a side of chicharrones. The mofongo was brilliantly garlicky (don't eat it on a first date) and had bits of chicharrón inside. YUM. The camarones (shrimp) came in a red coconut curry type sauce. Unexpected flavor but so delish. Chicharrones were on point. Vibe is upbeat and positive, servers are sweet, as other reviewers have mentioned. Rihanna was playing at the perfect volume. Let me start by saying I am not in any way an expert on Dominican food, in fact I think I've only had it a couple times before, so I can't comment on authenticity. I'll also try to separate that which is my own personal taste and that which is more objective. We came here craving mofongo, but we've only had Puerto Rican mofongo before. (See note above - this is a Dominican restaurant.) The friendly male staffer (owner? not sure) who speaks English explained the difference between Dominican and Puerto Rican mofongo along with other info about their menu. Their mofongo is served along side the protein you order it with, but also by default comes with chicharrones (fried, dare I say dessicated, pork belly) inside. Their mofongo doesn't come with an additional side, but their other entrees do. They have a choice of three sauces for the mofongo; garlic, tomato, and coconut. I'm a huge fan of Puerto Rican garlic sauce on mofongo; I did not care for this garlic sauce nearly as much. It was much less intense but more creamy, unfortunately not as flavorful. I would probably try coconut next time. I ordered the shrimp mofongo, husband ordered the carne frita de res (fried beef). Although the shrimp were good sized and cooked right, with the not-as-good garlic sauce they really didn't shine as they could have. The beef however was very good even with no sauce. They brought pink sauce to accompany it, which to me tasted just like thousand island or russian dressing. I don't think the beef needed it but it would be fine with it. The mofongo itself was pretty good. I still think I prefer the Puerto Rican style, but I did enjoy it. It was VERY filling. One thing I personally did not care for was the chicharrones inside. Did I mention that they were dessicated? It wasn't the good kind of crunch, and I ended up pulling those pieces out. The gentleman did say that they could make the mofongo without it, so I think next time I'll ask them to skip it. The gentleman said a lot of people were ordering the pork belly and it was really fresh... so if that's it when it's good, I think I just don't like it. But that doesn't mean it's actually bad, may just not be to my taste. I should note the other waitress doesn't really speak English, and my Spanish accent was so bad that she had trouble understanding me. You may be better off asking her to get the other guy if you think you're having a communication issue. Hubby also ordered the passion fruit juice, it was very good. I was trying to conserve calories so I resisted the temptation to order a mango mojito or a pina colada but other reviews said their cocktails are very good. All in all, I do want to try the restaurant again and try some of the other proteins and sides. The gentleman said the stewed meats are very popular. And they have goat... I love goat... may need to try a goat mofongo without the chicharrones... As an FYI re the parking situation, the meters right outside are only monitored from 9-6 weekdays so that's great for dinner. There is also a lot south of the restaurant but to get into it you have to turn onto the side street. If you're coming from the North it's a bit of a challenge, you have to go past it several blocks before there's a place to turn around. If you're coming from the north you also could go the long way, take 29 to Dale drive, which comes out just south of the restaurant near the parking. read more

Food it tasty here. It's Dominican cuisine and they had Presidente beer! It's DR's typical Pilsner. I ordered the bistek encebollado, white rice and guandules (pigeon peas). Rice and beans were great. Just that and avocado did the trick. This is not a fine steak restaurant so manage your expectations at the door. Go for the chicken because it would be safest for first timers. Meri was our waitress and she was delightful. She was funny, enthusiastic, and bubbly. What a great spirit. She was prompt in bringing us whatever we asked and checked on us twice. The music playing is bachata and the staff sings it with passion. Lovely and happy atmosphere. The trifongo was delicious! The chicharrones trifongo was cooked perfectly! All the food tasted like I was back in Puerto Rico. The Carne asada was a little overcooked. Seasoned well. The carne pastelitos fried to perfection and the ground beef was seasoned amazingly! The service was ok. Our waitress didn't speak much English but we managed to get it together. She also had one of her other employees who spoke both English and Spanish to help out, which was nice. The ambiance is laid back and the atmosphere actually reminded me of Puerto Rico. Hole in the wall Dominican place. MUCH APPRECIATED to have this in this area, especially being from Miami. It's very authentic! I started with the pasteleros of beef and chicken. Very small empanada like or pastry like stuffed with beef, chicken or cheese. MUST TRY THEIR BAILEYS PINA COLADA AND THEIR MORIr SOÑANDO. Morir soñando is orange juice with condensed milk and evaporated milk I believe. It's just delicious. I had white rice with stewed beef and habichuelas (red beans). It was my grandparents anniversary today, they're from PR and love Spanish food. Our server was friendly, I ordered the Carne Guisada which is my favorite dish. It was delicious! It was well seasoned, and the meat was just how I like it. As a group, we ordered Mofongo and it was delicious. Best Mofongo i've ever had. I ordered Tres Leches for dessert, it was quite soggy and very milky which I didn't like. But that's how it should be. Would certainly come again. This is a good spot for monfongo but definitely eat the food in one sitting - mofongo hardens the next day and is tough to soften again. The food was generally tasty. Mofongo is not on the lunch special menu so it can be a bit pricey. I had the regular mofongo and got a side of rice with beans and yucca and my boyfriend had the chicken mofongo. I thought the chicken would come inside the mofongo but I'm not a mofongo expert. The chicken and mofongo was decent. The staff is very friendly. I'll come back here for my mofongo fix. read more

I was craving Dominican food and was searching for a place to go when I saw La Casa Del Mofongo. I got the chicharrón, quipes, and pastelitos and the y were all delicious. Apart from the food being magnificent so was the service. I went only to pick up the food but ended up staying for hours eating, drinking the cold Presidente's, and talking to the bartenders. My first time at the spot and I ordered three different items off of their menu one was the meat platter which comes with chicken, sausage and pork belly (assorted meats), the other was oxtail stew and the stew goat. It was during lunchtime so the wait was really long, however I was slightly disappointed in the amount of plantains that they use as filler in this platter, as apposed to real meat. The other problem I had with this platter is that at the bottom of the container they were more chicken than anything else. The serving provided maybe a half a cup of pork belly and five pieces of sausages and the rest were chicken and plantains. I don't think this is right because of the price that they charge for it and these are not expensive meets. Overall the food tasted good. I will go back again but next time I'm dining in to make sure that I am getting my moneys worth. And to also make sure that the food is worth the wait.
