Carbón & Leña is a great find in Hyattsville. My friend and I love Dominican cuisine and this hit the spot. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but the o side is nice. It is tiny though, with just a few tables and some counter seating. By 1:00 pm on a Saturday, it was full. Service is friendly. I got the stewed chicken platter with rice and beans and a side of tostones. My friend got the stewed ribs with rice and beans and a side of platanos amarillos. We shared the pastelitos de queso and I ordered jugo de maracuyá. We loved everything and had leftovers. The chicken was delicious but the ribs are the way to go. They were so tender and flavorful. Tostones and pastelitos were perfect. And I always love rice and beans. I'd return here anytime and highly recommend checking it out.

I've eaten from here a handful of times and it gets better and better each time I do. I had to write this review because their red snapper is AMAZING. I am salivating just thinking about it. Perfectly seasoned and well flavored. I'm personally particular with rice and peas, but can definitely vouch theirs is really good. Seriously delicious Dominican food. Highly suggested for those wanting to try solid Dominican food in the area.

Merengue - delicious. Reminds me of a kola champagne

This spot is truly a hidden gem and I love exploring these types of places. I drive up and down route one and never noticed it. Then again, it's quite easy to miss if you're not looking. It's directly across from Shagga (an Ethiopian restaurant). If you're driving on route one towards the DC direction, it comes up on your left! They've been open about 7 months now and the folks here are very friendly and easy to talk to. I came here yesterday with a fellow foodie Yelper and we both enjoyed our meals and our experience. I like that the portions are generous - I had leftovers for lunch today. I never had Dominican food before but I love it. It's very similar to food I grew up on back home in Guyana. The flavor is very authentic. Like seriously, is there someone's grandma cooking this food?! It has a nice, cozy ambience. Not a place to come with a group of 20! There is a small parking lot adjacent to the restaurant so you don't have to worry about parking. They offer local sodas as well as coke products. I tried the merengue and enjoyed it. Reminded me of a Jamaican kola champagne. They have some beers as well. We ordered the chicken empanadas and they were delicious. For my meal, I got the pollo guisado with rice and sweet plantains. Everything was very tasty. I can't wait to come back here! I highly recommend this local business in the College Park/Riverdale area.

First, the food is amazing, we ate Sancocho ( heavy or créame Dominican style soup), and of course Dominican beer " Presidente" , they also have plenty parking . We had the opportunity to meet the owners " very friendly " ... see you soon ... and the food price is very good too.

Best Dominican Food in the DMV!!! This restaurant is one of my favorites, I've been going there for 2 years and counting . Never disappointed me !! Great Service!! Amazing Authentic Dominican Food!!

Hidden gem, food was made with love. I had the pollo guisado rice and beans & 2 pastelitos & a passion fruit juice. Everything was delicious. I will be coming back. The only reason why I'm not giving a 5 star is because my chicken was more bone then meat but it was late in the day so I probably had the last batch.

As the review, I happen to see this place across from Shagga and decided to try it. It was a pleasant surprise. I tried the readymade pork stew with white rice, green salad, and a side of tostones. While waiting for the tostones, I decided to try a beef empanada. Mmm, mmm!! Great flavor and still crunchy even after been under the heat lamp for an unknown amount of time. Back to my main course. The pork was very tender and very flavorful (although a tiny bit salty for my taste). The rice was perfect, not hard and not mushy like it sometimes is at Chipotle. The tostones were fried to perfection. Only thing missing was the mayo-ketchup. :( In summary, it is worth the try. I gave it 4 stars just because it was a little expensive compared to other similar restaurants.

So delicious. I took my mom here, during lunch time. We loved the service and the food was so delicious. We'll definitely be back soon.

There is plenty of indoor and outdoor patio spacing to accommodate groups and their customers. The music varies but I've heard my share of bachata played over the speakers. The owners and staff are committed to serving their customers. I do believe this is a family owned and operated establishment. For the first timers visiting you may order similar from behind the counter similar to chipotle or order made to order menu options such as the coconut cream fried red snapper over rice. Unfortunately, due to bad past experiences with mofongo from other places, I decided to skip the mofongo and go for a guisada (stew). Generally speaking the beef stew, which was served with beans and rice was decent. However, for my tastes, the stew seemed to be really greasy/fatty. I do not think that I ever had a guisado with so many fat droplets in the "soup". Also, I thought the beef was a bit tough/chewy for a stew; I was expecting the meat to be a bit more tender. While the stew was not horrible, I will say that I was a bit disappointed that I spent $20 on it. Since this is a Domincan restaurant, a little Spanish might go a long way. Overall, I thought the staff was nice. However, this appears to be a place where the staff knows a lot of the customers (or at least the Latino customers), so you might feel a bit like a persona non grata upon entry. However, they'll probably will warm up to you after a few minutes. While I somewhat enjoyed my stew, I really enjoyed my margaritas more. Since I'm still new to the area, I might check out some other Latin/Dominican restaurants before circling back around this restaurant.
