I was super excited to discover yet another great Senegalese restaurant in the DMV area! Safe to say that Chez Dior is a hidden gem... The food was authentic and beautifully plated. The mom and pop restaurant hit the mark with all of the usual dishes that you would expect to find at a Senegalese restaurant. Everything was well seasoned, fresh and tasty. The service was a little slow, and a few of the items that were ordered were never brought to the table - it wasn't at all a busy time, so likely they just forgot to bring it to the table. Overall those I had a great time and would definitely visit again.

Maaaaaann listen.... This food is as good as it looks and then some. Came here on the recommendation of a colleague. He and I were supposed to get barbecue from a nearby spot which happened to be "closed for the new year", so this phenomenal Senegalese restaurant turned out to be Plan B. My buddy is a fellow foodie and from Guinea, West Africa, so he knows his African food. Since most cultures on the motherland continent fight over whose Jollof rice is "the best", I wasn't aware that Senegal is where it was (actually) invented. The food here is well seasoned and unctuous. I had the lollipop lamb chops & Jollof. My buddy had okra stew and rice. He doesn't even like okra and neither do I but I tasted a little bit of his stew and I was impressed.... As was he obviously since he ordered it. Add ginger beer with fresh pineapple for a refreshing and pretty spicy drink. I had to tone mine down with some bottled water because the ginger was gingering - heavily. Service is a bit on the slow side but everything is prepared delicately so I don't mind waiting. We were the only ones in the restaurant until a couple of the tables got filled. Quiet ambiance. Definitely a good spot. I'll happily come back to this place.

Oh yeah, babe! *Emeril Lagasse voice* I loved everything about the food and the service. I had this place bookmarked for years and finally got the chance to try it as I was in the area for an appt. I called in an order for mafe (peanut stew) and thieboudienne (Senegal version of jollof w/ fish). I loveeed their peanut stew. It was rich and the meat was actually chunks of goat meat, along with some root vegetables, rather than random pieces of tough goat offal other places will throw in their peanut stew. Because there was actual tender meat in it, it was well worth the $20+ price tag. The rice accompanying the thieboudienne was delicious! It's very different from a Nigerian and Ghanian jollof as this version used broken rice instead of whole grains, and it's cooked for so long that the flavor totally permeates the rice. I could taste notes of dried fish in the rice-- so, so good! My favorite thing is that the service was FAST! I called in my order and it was ready about 20 mins later. Next time I'm in the area, I'm going back!

Absolutely amazing spot! I heard of it from an Uber driving and it's been on my list for a year now. It's very small and quant but the food and service is amazing! Walking in, it feels and smells like a true Senegalese home and the worker was so kind.

Giving Chez Dior 1 star because while the food was ok, the rest of the experience was pretty bad. We were hungry, so decided to sit and eat there. The gentleman serving us was pleasant, but he was on the phone the entire time we were placing our order. The menu also had no prices, which I've never seen before. We were the only customers there at the time and there was no music on, so we could pretty much hear everything in the kitchen. Someone was doing a lot of sneezing and coughing. NOT the sounds you want to hear from the area where your food is being prepared. I was tempted to leave at that point, but my friend was set on having Senegalese food today. I decided I'd say a good prayer and eat. I had the chicken yassa which was ok, and my friend had jollof and goat which he said was really good and tender.

Food: This was my first time having Senegalese food so I asked Julio for recommendations and he recommended jollof rice so that's why I got! It was tomato mixed rice + vegetables (cabbage, carrot, plantain, eggplant) + 2 chicken drumsticks. The chicken was SOO good - I would order just the chicken. It comes with a lot of rice so it fills you up and could feed me for two meals. Next time, I want to try the yassa chicken and thiebou diene. Service/Drinks: Shoutout to Julio for the best service! While I was waiting for my food, he let me try their house-made drinks and they were AMAZING. The hibiscus mint is my favorite and the baobab juice is also SO good. The ginger juice is very ginger-y so get this if you REALLY like ginger. They also have Senegal coffee! Parking: they have a few parking spaces behind the restaurant (next to vigilante). If you park here, you can enter through the back door of the restaurant.

Nice, clean atmosphere and good customer service. I waz immediately greeted when I entered the restaurant and took a moment to look over the menu. The staff was really polite. I ordered takeaway and it was good. The vegetarian nem was delightful! I am excited to go back and try more. I would recommend this place. Cheers!

We both enjoyed the Yassa chicken and Tiebou Yapp at this hole in the wall restaurant. The only thing I didn't enjoy was sweating during my time there. The temperature was probably close to 80 or 80° inside. They both came with mounds of rice, a meat and a small portion of their extremely spicy sauce. The Yassa chicken was tender, but I wish they had better quality knives so it was easier to cut the chicken off the bone. I liked the large serving of the lemon flavored sauteed onions and small pieces of mixed vegetables. The Tiebou Yapp's fried rice was seasoned broken sticky rice. My partner liked it but thought the meat was a little dry. It still made for a tasty dish when mixing all the different food components together with the spicy sauce. Also tried a side of plantains. They were a bit too oily. Wished they cooked them a little bit more so they had more crispy edges. The Bissap (Hibiscus) drink was a very sweet drink. It tasted like a concentrated grape juice. Wouldn't get this again. Overall, had good Senegalese meals here and would come here again.

I ordered the thiebou bou yapp dish, nems, bissap. The thiebou bou yapp came with sooo much food. You'll definitely get your money's worth for it. It came with beef shank, jollof rice, onions, and a super spicy sauce (the chef even warned us to only use a little at a time). The beef shank was a bit tough, but it tasted good. The jollof rice was cooked with the tiniest grains of rice I've ever seen, but it was very delicious. There was soooo much of it! There was a little saucer with cooked onions and some kind of sauce. It was good, but not memorable. The nems was interesting. I thought it would the Senegalese version of Chinese spring rolls since the menu's description for it said spring rolls. However, it's sort of more like Vietnamese summer rolls, except the consistency of the skin was a bit gelatinous. It was very different. The contents of the nems and the sauce that they came with were pretty good, but I don't think I'd order this again. The bissap is the best hibiscus flowers drink I've ever had. It was sweet and refreshing and had a unique taste from what I'm used to. I recommend this drink. The interior design was interesting. They had some Senegalese artifacts, newspaper clippings of their restaurant, photos of Senegal, and lots of large spoons and forks on the wall. Lastly, they have outdoor seating, but it's only one table.

I remember having amazing fried fish from here maybe 8-9 years ago, good enough for me to probably have made 2 or 3 trips to pick it up. After years of a hiatus, im back today for peanut soup- maafe! Never had it before, it wasnt bad, maybe not my cup of tea but i could tell it was well made for what it is supposed to be. And the lamb was tender and delicious in it. The sauce was just a bit more 'funky' than i was expecting.. maybe used with fish sauce too? But the nems appetizer and bissap drink were delicious absolutely. Wait for food wasnt long and waiter was friendly. Im still coming back, maybe stick with apps and fish dishes- id like to try the thieboudienne next!!

Beef brochettes with onion sauce and fried plantains (half bitten). Very delicious!

Dish: I ordered the spice wings with a side of jollof rice and spinach Efo-Riro. OMG! So let's start with the wings, the flavor on these wings were the right balance between rich spices and touch of sweetness. There was a hint of honey lingering on my tongue after it was greeted by a strong spicy flavor. Adding to this, the wings were fried to perfection with crispy skin resting on the top and smooth white meat down to the bone. AMAZING! The jollof rice was stellar! And while I do not know much about the perfect preparation for this dish to review if this is the best, I've had a few from various West African countries and can say that this one had that grainy texture with just the right spices mixed in. The spinach efo-riro was SO good. I honestly could have had a plate of this by itself and my taste buds would still be pleased. Overall, this place is very generous with their serving sizes. Well portioned, beautifully prepared, seasoned to perfection, and a sure trip down culture lane! I enjoyed it so much.

This is a very humble establishment that runs on African time but serves really authentic cuisine. Go here solely for the food. Better if you can do a take out order. I had grilled lamb with spinach, jollof rice and sweet plantains. Just amazing. I also did a take out order of Ndolle (goat with some bitter leaf gravy). Loved it. There are too many issues with the restaurant. Outdated ambience, super super slow service, difficulty communicating with the staff which resulted in some extra side dishes I ended up paying for, their website doesn't work, the prices they charged were a bit more than what was on the menu (basically outdated menus) and the list simply goes on. Inspite of all these issues, I would still go there because none of those issues seemed intentional. I didn't see foul play. The manager/owner Patrick and the server/cashier Agbenfa both seemed naive and humble. They tried to make sure I enjoyed the food. I also feel I may have gotten lucky because the food that was served to me was hot. (Not cold or room temp like some of the others mentioned) I went on a Friday night. I would have to try a few more times before judging if the food is consistent. But the two entrees and the three sides I tried were all phenomenal. It also helps if you know what you are getting but I like to try new things especially when I am going to authentic places and I don't mind taking small risks. Oh the portions were huge. When it took 30 mins for the lady to come take my order, I was all set to leave the place and was prepared for a 1star experience as I started reading the reviews. But I'm glad my patience served me well. I wasn't in a rush. It was a lazy Friday evening. Lazy enough to stick around long enough to try their food.
