This is the BEST West African restaurant in the DMV area. Every dish is authentic and worth every penny.

Arrived at 1:45 and the restaurant opens at 1 on Sundays. My boyfriend and I tried to order the jerk chicken and beef patties, but both were not ready. We were able to order the curry chicken and curry goat with jallof rice. Then we asked about the fried plantains, but that wasn't available either. The interior of the restaurant is not very appealing, but it seems like more of a takeout place. The curry chicken was flavorful, but had more small bone pieces than expected. The curry goat was also tasty. We especially enjoyed the jallof rice. The portions were decent for the prices. Overall, since half of the menu was not ready almost an hour after opening time, it deters us from wanting to return again. We were look ingforward to trying the beef patty and jerk chicken as they are foods that Jamaica is known for but we were disappointed that they weren't available. First time trying this place and it was good. It was a big pricey but they give you a lot of food so it's pretty much worth it. The staff is friendly. They have a variety of food items for you to try. The interior is okay with very few seatings and certain areas that need repair. But it seems to me that this place is designed for pick up. read more

I was in the area for an appt and wanted West African food, found this place on Yelp, and was fully prepared to have to wait 20-30 mins for them to prepare my food. Imagine my surprise when I walked in and saw that everything was ready so that I could order my two combos and go! lol idk why this isn't common for West African restaurants (like it is for Caribbean places with similar stews), but I'm happy this place got it right! They didn't have too many protein options (just brown stew chicken and curry chicken), but that was fine with me as I was craving brown stew chicken anyways. I got that with jollof rice and cabbage. I will say the portion size is more than enough! I had enough food for three meals so I was pleased with it. The chicken was juicy, succulent and fell off the bone. I also appreciated the stew. I loved the cabbage! It was probably my favorite part of the meal, and the jollof was pretty good. I honestly can't say enough good things about Sweet Sweet Kitchen. I ordered 3 dinners for carry-out--I live an hour away--and wanted to get food for the family. When I got home, I realized my cassava leaf was packed with white rice instead of the jollof rice I had really been craving. I called just to let them know--not expecting anything other than a note for next time. But to my complete surprise, the gentleman I spoke with (Kaba) told me he would personally drive to my house--after the restaurant closed--to bring me the jollof rice. I was absolutely stunned. Who does that these days? He asked me to text him my address, kept in touch the whole time, and sure enough--he showed up around 10 PM with my jollof rice in hand. I didn't have cash on me to tip him, but my daughter had just come home and gave him $20 because we were both so blown away by that level of service. This is what real customer service looks like. Kaba went above and beyond in a way you just don't see anymore. The food is amazing, but the people behind it are even better. My family and I visited this place yesterday. I visit a few establishments on this street and finally got the chance to check Sweet Sweet out. I got the oxtail plate with jollof rice, a side of plantain, and ginger beer. The highlight was the rice and oxtail gravy. While the meat was good overall, some pieces were tougher than others but nothing undesirable. I know the prices of everything have gone up but $37 is a bit offputting. The food here is amazing. Sweet Sweet Kitchen is a small African/Caribbean restaurant that offers authentic Caribbean & West African food. You will be hooked on your visit. I literally came on a Friday came back on Saturday. My favorite dishes include the Cassava Leaf, this was actually my first time trying this dish. I love the curry chicken and the oxtail is fall off the bone good. I want to try the curry goat and the snapper next but I keep getting the curry chicken. Parking is limited. As far as it may be, quality always wins and I'll be back!! The fried chicken was so juicy. Even thought I tasted a hint of ginger! Cassava leaves were spot on. The meat was tender, like goat. I don't have anything to compare it to besides someone's home cooking and it definitely makes top 2! The jerk chicken was pretty good. But the star of the show was the brown stew chicken!! I stopped by at this restaurant on a Monday afternoon and it wasn't so busy, but things started picking up after about 1:30pm. However they were able to pick up the speed and cater to everyone. I ordered the cassava leaf dish which came with either a side of jollof rice or white rice. I had the white rice since it was recommended by my server, and it took about 15 minutes for it to be ready. I also asked if I could use the yelp 10% discount that was available to me after checking in and that was also honored. The cassava leaf dish was sooo good and tasted authentic to what you might have in a traditional Sierra Leonian home, I recommend it! They were also quite generous with the serving size and the amount of meat in the dish which I appreciated. My friend had the chicken curry dish and I also liked that too. LISTEN!!!..... Thee best Curry Goat, Oxtails, & Jollof Rice..... I've had in a long time..... hands down!! The flavors of each dish and how distinct each one tasted was unique and on point. The spice level was a little on fire, but the good kind of burn and all I can say is "Flavaaahh!".Lol This place does not skimp or play around with seasoning their food that's for sure. They were so helpful and accommodated me well. One of the sisters cooked the curry goat. I remember this because the minute I tasted it while there....I immediately ran back to the counter and had to ask---give props! One them replied to let me know she cooked it and smiled They even gave me a sample of Jollof rice to try as well as part of my order. It was a really cool gesture and made a great first impression on me as a first visit. In all honestly, the only grip about this place that I have is that the price point is a bit steep given the meal's rice to protein serving, but it's still worth it overall. Also, they don't serve veggies WIITH the platter (like cabbage, mixed vegetable or salad) with the meal...at least not the meals I got. --NOR-- do they sell combination platters (i.e. like oxtails and a jerk combo, curry chicken and goat, etc)....what's up with that!?? You end up spending a hellavajh lot more trying to build a combo by buying the items (dishes) separately. ***Management: Please consider making these slight adjustments/changes to your menu for the customer. In all though, I thoroughly enjoyed the food. I'm so glad I stopped by here today out of curiosity. I didn't love the jollof rice, as it didn't seem to have much more flavor than the white rice did. I'd like to try something else but last time I was there they were sold out nearly everything. There are so many great things about living in Silver Spring, and one of the greatest is all the amazing curried goat nearby. Curried goat and ginger beer is my "last meal" pairing, so I have strong feelings and love for it. Admittedly, as of this writing I have only made it to two Caribbean places to have curried goat and they were both great, but this one is the best so far. If any are better, it is hard to imagine how, but I will try them all anyway. Sweet Sweet Kitchen is primarily a takeout counter but they actually have about a half dozen tables and booths, so you can plop down and dine in, which we did. It's on a one way street with very dubious parallel parking opportunity but just a block away or so is a good garage so if you're driving, save yourself some heartache and park there. The food was ready-made so there was very little wait. I had curried goat with jollof rice and it comes with 2 plantains; hubs had the curried chicken which came with the same rice, plantains and some salad. Both of us loved our meal and were ecstatic to discover it actually had a good amount of heat, unlike pretty much every other restaurant we've been to in MD in the six or so weeks since we got here. The curried goat had the perfect amount of heat, and great flavor intensity, and enough sauce for the rice to become lovingly saturated so it was all a flavor bomb in my mouth. They sell D&G ginger beer and pineapple ginger which I'd never had, hubby got one and it was awesome, I may get that one next time which is saying something for how much I loooove my ginger beer. This isn't an ambience place, but if your idea of "date night" is orgasmically amazing food regardless of the surroundings, it will hit the spot (pun shamelessly intended). We each ate half our meal and were comfortably sated but still had room for a quick trip to Sweeteria for dessert and tea. read more

This little restaurant has absolutely amazing food. I tasted a lot of spices and a good kick to it. I ordered jerk chicken with rice (the one with beans) and it came with plantains. As a plantain lover, i do wish that the plate had at least 4 slices of plantains. They pour sauce on the beans and although I asked for the least spicy sauce something in the food had some spiciness in it. I absolutely enjoyed every bit of it and would definitely come back. I wish they would have carried fresh made juices but they do not. They have jamaican Kola Champagne which is a delicious soda. The dish and soda totaled at $17.74 so definitely not the priciest but not inexpensive either. If you have not tried jamaican food, I would encourage you to try this location. Give it a try ! I would give 5 stars for how pleasant the cashier was but the food....not good. I purchased the oxtail and was given exactly FOUR pieces. Not only where there only four pieces but 3/4 of them had the nerve to be rock hard and not edible. The rice was good and it was obvious that it was made fresh but the oxtail was old and reheated. The person in front of me also received exactly four pieces and asked for a side of oxtail and was told it would be the same exact price with or without the rice and plantain (which was burnt btw). This was some of the best goat curry I have had in a long time, and I just went to Jamaica a few months ago. I really enjoyed the Jollof rice and plantain that also came with the meal. Got the curry chicken and the brown stew chicken (based on others' reviews). Curry chicken definitely a little spicier than stew. The chicken seems to be cooked as a whole chicken and chopped up - bone-in. YUM. Not dry!! Rice with peas = well-flavored, well-seasoned. Price is a little on the steep side - $30 and change for the two dishes, but it's COVID times. Just need to get some more veggies in to get a balanced meal (I noticed others' commenting about cabbage running out... I do think cabbage would be nice b/c we had no veggies!!!) Definitely wanna return to try to try the cassava leaf and oxtail (and jerk chicken)!!! AND try plantains... and veggies :) Probably need to come earlier to get more options and veggies. read more

A very good friend of mine had been raving about Sweet Sweet Kitchen for awhile so I finally took heed to her suggestion and ordered the Kamala Harris Curry Chicken with white rice. The fact that they named the dish after our Madam Vice President is humorous and clever. I like curry chicken...but I typically prefer jerk chicken and probably should've gone with my preference for my first visit. The Kamala Harris Curry Chicken wasn't bad, but it lacked the flavor I was hoping for. I look forward to trying the jerk chicken and other menu items in the future. I discovered this place while in Silver Spring getting my hair braided. I could smell the aroma from the smoke walking nearby. Curious to what it was, I decided to stop by. I was greeted by the Manager Susie, who was so pleasant. I asked her if I can try the cassava leaves because I haven't had them in years and wasn't sure if I was going to like them. She said off course and made me a sample! They were sooooo good and seasoned to perfection!! However, more spice than I could handle at the time so I decided to go with the Oxtail's and Jollof rice.
