JUST GO!! I've been going to Koite Grill for years, but usually the College Park location--this was my first time visiting the Silver Spring spot. The location is very convenient, though it's near a major intersection, so parking can be a bit tricky. It's also a busy area. My friends and I went for a girls' night out and decided to expand two of our American friends'' palates by introducing them to the best Senegalese food in the area--don't question it, it's a fact. I highly recommend the Dibi: incredibly flavorful and tender. Their Jollof rice rivals Nigeria's--slightly spicy, but absolutely delicious. The mac and cheese was perfectly done. There were six of us, so while we ordered individual entrées, we shared several appetizers, which allowed me to try even more dishes. Everything was outstanding: Plantains - delicious Peanut soup - yummy Okra stew - delectable Pastels (beef and fish) - perfect Bottom line: everything was good, even the sorrel drink. The service was amazing as well. They accommodated our large party in a very small space--the restaurant is tiny, yet bustling. I loved the cultural vibes and energy. It's a very casual dining experience that beautifully reflects Senegalese culture. I would 1000% recommend Koite Grill. It was a fantastic introduction to African cuisine for my American friends, and I'll definitely be back. By the way, each of us ordered carryout meals after we stuffed our faces. That's a clear indication of how good the food is...

This is my first review of 2026!!! I ended up stopping in here at random with my friend as we perused downtown Silver Spring. I've eaten Senegalese food years ago, and suddenly had a craving for it. When you walk in, it's very bright and colorful---orange walls, African decorative baskets on the tables, and Afrobeats music videos playing on the TV. It's more of a takeout spot than dine in, but you can eat in. I ordered the Chebu Jen, which is king fish with a side of jollof rice, yam, and cabbage while my friend ordered a side of yucca fries and suya beef. I had guava juice as my refreshment. The service was pretty quick. Once we put in our order, we found a table and sat down. There were not a lot of people inside at the time, but many people were coming in to pick up their food. We got our food pretty quickly. However, they serve you in to go containers with plastic cutlery and plastic plate if you do dine in. I thought since we were eating in, we would have received our food in actual dining wear, so I was a bit surprised that's not how they do it. But, let's get to the actual meal. My meal was a very generous serving of rice. The rice was short grained and almost looked like orzo ? The jollof was smoky, flavorful, and a different spin than on Jollof from Nigeria. They gave two condiments with the meal (a spicy pepper sauce and hot mayonnaise). Be careful with the spicy pepper sauce! It is very peppery and hot! I liked it, though, and kept adding it to my dish even though my taste buds were on fire, lol. The king fish was tasty too. There were about four decent size chunks of it in the stew that came with the dish. It tasted a lot like mackerel. The cabbage and yam were so tender and melted in my mouth. I had so much food leftover to take home! My friend also enjoyed her dish as well although she had a hard time using the plastic cutlery to cut into her beef suya. The yucca fries were good, and we both agreed we'd definitely order from them again. Overall, great food at decent prices!

Take out Review! We had such a positive experience at Koité. We ordered through DoorDash and the food was ready on time. Service was very friendly and nice. AND THE FOOD, fantastic! It was our first time eating Senegalese so we ordered a spread. Fish Fataya, Dibi Chicken, beef suya, and puff puff. Everything was great but the beef and jollof stole the show. Highly recommend. We'll definitely be back.

Delicious. The portion of fish was slightly disheartening but again it was delicious so I don't know if I'm complaining about the size or the fact that I want more. The pastels were perfect. The jollof was exceptional. The ambiance was chill and comfortable. The service was good and inviting. No one was rushing you or acting disinterested in making sure that you got your order right. It was a lovely experience. Great food. Great service.

I've passed by Koitae Grill many times and have always wanted to try it-finally, I did, and it did not disappoint! Just as the reviews promised, the food was fantastic. Here's what we tried: * Fataya Pastel (Fish Pastry): Crispy on the outside, but the fish filling wasn't much. * Che-bu-yap with Lamb: The sauce was rich and has a sweetness to it! * Lamb Dibi: Tender, juicy, and perfectly seasoned. * Jollof Rice: Tasty and well-spiced, pairing perfectly with the flavorful sauces. Everything was cooked to perfection, especially the meats, which were wonderfully tender.

This is my first time trying Senegalese food and I am SO IMPRESSED. Every portion was huge and so fairly priced. All this food was only $71. Service was friendly when I picked it up and it was ready promptly. The fataya was savory and crispy with lots of beef filling. The sauce definitely packed a bunch, but added spice and texture. The plantains were EXACTLY how I like them-- perfectly tender without getting mushy. They had a delicious glaze and weren't too oily. The Yassa Poulet was probably my favorite dish, which I paired with the white rice and a squeeze of lemon. The savory, creamy sauce with onions added a succulence to the chicken and had a balance of salty, acidic, and spicy. The Thiebou-Dienne was also delicious paired with the jollof rice and lemon. The carrots, yam, and cabbage were all perfectly tender and had soaked up the flavors of the sauce. The fish did have bones in it, but they were big enough to be easily spotted. The fish was juicy and I liked making little tacos with the cabbage and rice. Not pictured but the thiakry with millet has such a great texture, although it was a little sweet for me. My friend was obsessed with it though. I think adding a squeeze of lime would cut the sweetness back for me and make it perfect. I will definitely be back to try more of the dishes in the future!

Well done Koite Grill. I feel like I got a home cooked meal. Chicken Yassa: very good! Chicken was tender, sauce/gravy was flavorful...My husband said the onions in the Chicken Yassa took him on a journey. Jollof: this was my first time having Senegalese jollof. So different. The smallest rice grains I've ever seen. Came with a couple of slices of green and red peppers, onions, carrots, peas, and corn... And when I say a couple, I mean 2-3 of each vegetable I listed in the whole container. No complaints from me at all. Dibi Chicken: Chicken grilled well! Just not as deeply seasoned as I expected.. and I don't mean salt... But the grilled taste of chicken can really make up for the flavor. Mac and cheese: not bad at all.... It's like when you go to a cookout and you're praying it's any good... It looks promising. You taste it and you're like "ok it's not my mom's but I see what they did!". Would I get it again? Maybe. Would I recommend people try it. Yea, doesn't hurt. They don't use macaroni. I think they use rotini but I can't remember. Beef Suya: good flavor, kinda tender, more of a wet seasoning than the Nigerian way. Hibiscus Mint juice: very tasty and sweet! Would get again... Only a hint of Mint. Took about 30 min to get food after ordering.

I order this for my family gathering 2 days in advance. I was under the impression that for $160 we would atleast get onions. I'm disappointed and if I didn't have other things to do I would drive back.

Feel free to correct me Yelp but there does not seem to be as much advertisement in the media given to West African restaurants as East African eateries in the DMV area. Not trying to start the whole east/west coast beef again but just my opinion it seems like a big focus on African cuisine seems to be focused just on Eritrean/Ethiopian cuisine here and I put money that you can name more of them. On this day after taking in some cinema in the Silver Springs area we decided to try out Koite Grill that was a short walk from the theatre and near the Silver Springs metro stop. Like many places it is a small place that you can walk past if not paying attention. There are a few seat on the outside if you would like to take in the views. Supposedly they also have a food truck from reading the reviews and this food truck has goat which they did not have in the brick and mortar this particular day. I think some of the places like this might have only one person cooking in the back. It seems like the food was coming out slow but in all actuality it looked like the food was held up by the staff at the front. When we came in plenty of people were waiting for food either to eat there or taking it to go. All the food came out at about the same time which tells me that their food was sitting there. Fortunately or food came out in a decent time and came out hot. Even if you are eating there the food is wrapped up as if you ordered it to go but they will bring you plates. To start off we went with the beef pastels as an appetizer. It's a bit of a cross between a beef patty and sambusa that comes with a sauce. They come in threes in case you are dining alone and worried about having too much. Warning that they come out hot. You can get it stuffed with fish also and they were nothing but tasty. For the main entrée I went with the che-bu-yap also known as thieboudienne. Once again I went with the beef option and good thing there is someone that actually knows how to cook beef to leave it tender and not dried out from overcooking. The beef comes on top of jollof rice that I wish had a bit more oomph in it. When I say that I personally would like more onions, spices, tomatoes, and perhaps some chilis in it. Hey everyone has their own spin of the popular jollof rice but overall it was not disappointing. This entrée is something I would definitely order again as I saw some others in the place had ordered this same dish.

This place is soooo good. This food is from the food truck in Forestville MD, but I also visited this location as well. THE ONIONSSSS I LOOVEEE LOL service is always great and food just amazing and fresh every time! The sorrel and pineapple ginger drinks are good as well.

Dibi Trio- lamb, chicken and goat with extra onions and jollof rice. Sorry, I dove into the plate before a picture.

10/10! A+++++++ Listen, I need a food tour of the continent! I stumbled across this food truck because Marlboro Pike is the unofficial spot for food trucks in this area (District Heights/Forestville, PG County). When I saw that it was Senegalese food I got more excited-- I've never had it! The sign on the truck said they had award-winning jollof. Not sure what award, but I was convinced. You know I had to do my research, asking others in line for recommendations and wait time. I told them I'd come back another time because the reported 20-minute wait wasn't in my plans. The guy working the window gave me a sample, I think to ensure I came back later. *mind blown* I placed an online order for pick up later. One small plate and an extra side was $30. I prefer to eat $30 meals at a sit down restaurant, but I was pleasantly happy that I could experience this here vs. a trip to Silver Spring where they have a brick and mortar. This was great because the food tasted fresh and not laden with sprinkled on spices. Their onions didn't looked grilled, but they are delicious (I ordered extra) and this is coming from a semi-onion hater. The food truck didn't have my desired veggie side so I opted for drinks. The pineapple ginger is kick throat and tasty. The hibiscus drink is rich and the sweet that my taste buds needed. I let my son taste my food and he started closing his eyes and humming before getting a good bite in. He started asking a bunch of questions: where is this? When are they there? etc. I'd say he gives it his stamp of approval, lol. I definitely recommend this truck and to order online, though have a plan B as they might be out of something without you knowing.

I'll keep this short, their food is amazing! Since first trying this delicious meat, I've tried their Silver Spring, College Park, and District Height locations. While each is different, they all are delicious. Silver Spring: They have the most extensive menu. It's in downtown Silver Spring, so parking can be challenging. They also have limited seating. College Park: They have a limited menu that focuses on their Dibi meat. Parking is easy, and the service is friendly District Heights: They are open Wednesday - Sunday. They have some additional grilled items available. Also, their prices are slightly cheaper. I love the Duo with lamb and goat. Their jollof rice has been my side of choice. I also love their ginger juice. Foodie Tip: Go, now!

I was planning to visit Koite Grill in Silver Spring this weekend, but saw on ig that their food truck was near me in Forestville! I ordered online and it gave me a pick up time with the order confirmation. When I arrived they had a speaker with music playing, and someone was cooking on 2 big grills. I had to wait a few minutes for my order, but the music set a nice atmosphere, so I didn't mind. I ordered the grilled chicken with jollof and it was DELICIOUS! I honestly ate half of it right it my car. I ordered the large and it was enough for about 3 servings. I'll definitely be back to try the BBQ chicken next time.

This is a very humble establishment that runs on African time but serves really authentic cuisine. Go here solely for the food. Better if you can do a take out order. I had grilled lamb with spinach, jollof rice and sweet plantains. Just amazing. I also did a take out order of Ndolle (goat with some bitter leaf gravy). Loved it. There are too many issues with the restaurant. Outdated ambience, super super slow service, difficulty communicating with the staff which resulted in some extra side dishes I ended up paying for, their website doesn't work, the prices they charged were a bit more than what was on the menu (basically outdated menus) and the list simply goes on. Inspite of all these issues, I would still go there because none of those issues seemed intentional. I didn't see foul play. The manager/owner Patrick and the server/cashier Agbenfa both seemed naive and humble. They tried to make sure I enjoyed the food. I also feel I may have gotten lucky because the food that was served to me was hot. (Not cold or room temp like some of the others mentioned) I went on a Friday night. I would have to try a few more times before judging if the food is consistent. But the two entrees and the three sides I tried were all phenomenal. It also helps if you know what you are getting but I like to try new things especially when I am going to authentic places and I don't mind taking small risks. Oh the portions were huge. When it took 30 mins for the lady to come take my order, I was all set to leave the place and was prepared for a 1star experience as I started reading the reviews.
