I've ordered delivery (through doordash) twice from here now and both times the food was great. The items are always packed well. The food is so flavorful and yummy. They give plenty of injera bread too. I've gotten the yawaze tibs, which are delicious. I've also gotten the side of lentil sambusa which is also super flavorful and yummy. My boyfriend has gotten dullet and loved it. He liked it so much that the first time he ordered it he told me to make sure we remember this place so he can keep getting it. You also get a lot of food. I don't know how in person service is, but for delivery my experience has consistently been good. You also get a free can drink with meals, which isn't even stated on doordash, so that was a pleasant surprise. read more

The food here is so fresh, flavorful, well-balanced in spices and simply put....Delicious!! I've been here twice now and have not experience a bad meal yet. The owners and chef are very friendly and are eager to help cater a meal or tone down the spices to your liking. My go to here is no doubt...the Beef Tibs (#21. Yawaze Tibs). This dish is full of flavor and the portions are generous. Definitely enough to share or spare for another day as leftovers. Tender cuts of beef are cooked in clarified herb butter, then simmered-down and stewed in onions, tomato, garlic, berbere spices & jalapeño. It is served with a generous portion of injera and a side of tomato salad. No fork needed....You just break off a piece of injera and it's an all hands, stuff your face, lick your fingers experience from there. The veggie combo entree is another favorite at this restaurant for me...and a winner! The balanced, affordable platter is a blessing to those who have difficulty deciding what to order, and to others who want to sample a good fraction of an unfamiliar menu. It's made up of a mix of vegan curries, lentils, greens, chopped and stewed vegetables served on a plate of injera. The colors of fresh veggies and brightness almost make you not want to eat it because it looks like a piece of art. :) They serve many other variations of Ethiopian cuisine and veggie dishes, but it's the Tibs for me. While I feel like more meat should have been included in the takeout box, the food was flavorful and very delicious, would order again. I previously gave a 4 star rating but after having been here several times since that review, they deserve 5 stars across the board, hence this updated review! They seem to be thriving even during this pandemic. Still no dining in, but they have many loyal customers (other than me) coming for take-out orders. They are very friendly and the food is amazing! The portions are generous! I place my order in ahead of time. I usually request the lega tibs (no onions) and they always honor my request. I have never written a negative review of a restaurant before, but this was quite honestly the worst veggie combo I've ever had. It's 8:30, I haven't eaten all day, and I was looking forward to this meal. At this point the only silver lining I can find is being able to spare someone else this horrible experience. Literally every component was off: the injera was extremely sour and undercooked. the cabbage was undercooked, unseasoned, and swimming in oil. The beets were undercooked, unseasoned, and swimming in oil. The kik alicha (yellow lentils)? You guessed it...undercooked, unseasoned, swimming in oil. The greens were unseasoned and swimming in oil but, for a refreshing change, overcooked to an oily paste. The only non-oily component was the misir wot (red lentils), which were pretty much raw but seemed to have been seasoned with pure chili and salt, not berbere. Just so we're clear, I am not a picky eater--I can pretty much always find something to appreciate about a meal. And I love Ethiopian food. In my life, I've eaten many things that weren't to my taste out of politeness, but I couldn't eat more than a couple mouthfuls of each component of this combo because the greasiness made it challenging to want to swallow. The one component I did eat more of (the non-greasy misir wot) gave me stomach cramps...because the lentils were raw. Genuinely, what a shame. I don't want to tear down a local business, so please, go support local businesses by going to any other Ethiopian restaurant. [Coronavirus review] The stay at home order-which allows you to leave home if you're going out to get food-inspired me to do something I don't normally do: Ethiopian takeout. I was concerned that it was the sort of cuisine not amenable to takeout, simply because the variety of stews and soft breads would likely turn into a muddled mess. I wasn't entirely wrong about that, but it was nonetheless a good experience that got me a flavor mix I can't make at home. This place was removed from downtown Silver Spring, just on the Maryland side of Eastern Avenue, and seemed well-prepared to do takeout business. It didn't look like much on the inside, but everyone was gloved and masked and I got my takeout order having paid online without having to touch anything. The good news about getting their veggie combo to go is the mentality is clearly to pack as much into a takeout container as it will hold without breaking. A pile of rolled injera sat dry atop the selection of lentils and vegetables, a pile I wasn't quite able to finish, perhaps because I also ordered a lentil sambusa, which was tasty. The veggie combo gave a real variety of tastes: a strong ginger note in the sautéed cabbage, a heavy dose of chili powder in one lentil preparation, and the heat of fresh jalapeños in the salad. WOW WOW WOW!! When I can impress my brother from another mother living on the other side of the world - it deserves the WOW! So I think I ordered their fish gullash 6-7 times so far (in the span of 1 month). It comes with so much injera (the "spongy bread") and I love that you can just DIG IN - NO utensils needed because you just pick it all up with the injera!! The veggie platter is also a sure bet - there are SO many varieties of veggies in that platter! And they include beets - I really like beets. But if I had to pick one, it would be the fish gullash. I do have a palate that is super partial toward spicy and sour - it has a little bit of that, but it's my favorite thing here. I've also had the yawaze tibs and the lamb (for the group) - both really knocked it out of the park. If you get one thing: get the fish gullash If you want diversity: veggie platter/combo Beef tibs seems to always be quite the safe bet You get a lot of food!! One of these trays is 2 meals (AT LEAST) for me. And you get a drink with your order (it's a canned soda or bottle of water). Order on the phone ahead has worked really nicely for me - I always do try to give them 10-15 min more than what they quote you. But it's like their sign - fast food ain't good, and good food ain't fast. Be patient and your belly will thank you for it. read more

Definitely a take-out sorta place, but great food. I stopped in here randomly for dinner, and couldn't have been happier with the food. The food was delicious (easily some of the best in the DMV), and we got a LOT for our money - you will definitely leave here full. The caveat: this place really doesn't seem to be made for eat-in, even though it has tables inside. The server was nice but clearly had an extremely limited understanding of English, which made ordering a bit tough. Table service was nonexistent - our waters were just kinda bottles of water, and we were more or less on our own the entire time. I ordered the vegetable platter (spicy red lentils, chickpeas, tomato salad, greens, and there were beets on the side, I didn't know I was getting beets haha.) and a vegetable sambusao to go on the side. The food was DELICIOUS. Very hot , order was accurate and arrived in a timely fashion. Everything was flavorful and colorful. I want one day to go and dine in so I can have the full dining experience, but just based off the flavors of the meal, you'll love it! We've been faithful customers of Rohobot for quite some time. Which makes it difficult and disappointing to write this review. Our order tonight was off in every way possible. First and foremost, the containers were inappropriately packed with way more injera than the actual dishes which gives the impression of a dishonest business practice. Secondly, the injera was unusually sour/tart, it appears that they've swapped out most of the lamb dishes for beef (e.g. Alicia Wot), and have seemingly decreased the portions quite a bit (hence the increase in injera, I suspect). Not sure what's going on or the cause behind the sudden decrease in both quality and quantity yet increase in price but this is incredibly disappointing as Rohobot was our favorite Ethiopian restaurant. Now we'll have to return to Habesha Market or look elsewhere. read more

OMG! I was craving Tibs and this hit the spot! The flavor is sooooo good! I'm not really a fan of injera because it tastes slightly bitter to me but there's is t bitter at all. I ordered a side of rice because I eat mine with rice, you know, because I don't like injera but the rice was good too! And an nice portion! There's definitely enough food for me to eat twice! I absolutely love this place! This was the best Ethiopian food I have ever had and I have had a lot! I heard about this place from an article in the WaPo and I am glad I ordered from here. The Yawaze tibs were out if this world! It's the only time I've gotten any tibs and they've been in their own sauce. Normally they are like the Lega tibs which are seasoned but you would have to add sauce to it for extra flavor. Honestly, both tibs I mentioned were excellent but the Awaze was by far the favorite. The spicy lentils were also fantastic! We also really enjoyed the yellow peas and the carrots with cabbage. The whole meal was awesome and they even give you a spicy berbere sauce and powder to add flavor. Just make sure you also order extra injera because you will need it! read more

I love Rohobot so much! Every time we travel to the area, we make sure to grab food from them. One time, we took about an hour detour (with traffic) on the way from Syracuse, NY, to Southern Virgina just to get their food. My favorite thing there is their beets and tomato salad. I always get the veggie combo with the beets. This time, we tried the Misto, and it was delicious as well. If I had to choose one of the meats from the Misto, it would be the Key Wot. This is the best Ethiopian restaurant in/around Silver Spring. I can never eat at another Ethiopian restaurant because I have such undying loyalty to Rohobot. That said, I don't think I'd ever eat there in-person -- I've only ever gotten takeout and when I've been in the restaurant to pick it up it does not have the greatest ambience. Delicious, flavorful, spicy, rich, amazingly satisfying Ethiopian food. The derek tibs and veggie platter are out of this world fantastic, and more than enough food for two--or even three!--people. We order delivery and it always arrives perfectly packaged (in recyclable containers, no less) and piping hot. They even throw in a few sodas, which is cute. If you're wondering if you need an extra order of injera, you do not--there is copious amounts provided with each dish, plus everything wrapped in injera, so you'll be in great shape for an entire meal. Dined with a friend for lunch on a Saturday. The operation appeared to be a one man show. Although it took 45-60 minutes to get our food, when it did come out was absolutely delicious. The food tasted very fresh and spiced nicely - worth the wait. Most of the orders appeared to be going out the door via DoorDash, but the place was nice for dine in, if you have the time.
