The service and the Brussels sprouts were the best part of the meal. The servers were very attentive and kind. The Brussels sprouts chat was so good! Roasted to perfection and paired well with the chutneys. I also ordered the lamb vindaloo and it was lack luster to me. The lamb chunks were good, but the sauce lacked spice even though I asked for spicy. My friend got the garlic naan and I tasted it. I wasn't a fan of the taste or texture. This one has been on my list for a few years now and I'm glad we finally tried it. The location in downtown silver spring near the movie theater makes it a solid choice for some Indian food before going taking in a movie. Here were our hits and misses: Spicy passion fruit: definitely spicy. More spicy from the jalapeno than the sour/sweet from the passion fruit. A hit if you like drinks with a kick! Dalchini: "good" (Highest level of praise from my husband) Samosa chaat: proportions of chutneys and chickpeas all perfect just needed some onions/tomatoes diced on top for texture and it would have been perfect. Lamb korma: thick delicious gravy and they Didn't skimp on lamb. Definitely a hit with my carnivore husband. Tofu chana masala: tastes just like Chole. Can't even taste the tofu as it isn't crisped up or anything it's just in there all soft and paneer-like. I actually wasn't sure about that but I tried it and it was lovely!! A hit for me and for anybody looking for a vegetarian friendly protein forward option . Something to note: There is construction going on so be sure to factor that in when trying to find parking as there are road closures/detours. We were seated pretty quickly and it was a busy Saturday evening for them. The portions are appropriate -- not too little and not too much; you really feel satisfied and it's just awesome they have some dishes with tofu. There's lots of other stuff to try on the menu for future visits and since we are often in the area to catch a movie I have no doubt we will be back. read more

A warm and inviting Indian restaurant in DTSS; waitstaff were just as warm and hospitable. The menu is vast, with mostly northern region dishes. They different vegan and vegetarian items, as well as food that contains nuts. We shared a fish pakora appetizer. It was fried tilapia strips floured and seasoned with many spices. The exterior was crispy and interior was tender and flaky. It came with a green cilantro based chutney. I had the basil infused salmon. 2 pieces of marinated salmon cooked in a tandoor oven and rolled in basil and parsley came out, accompanied by cilantro chutney, shredded red cabbage, cucumber slices and basmati rice. The fish was cooked to perfection, with basil flavor complementing the protein. My companion liked his fish curry. It was a mild bit flavorful gravy with slices of tilapia. The drinks (mango lassi and Pinot Grigio) were also very good with the meal. read more

We came here because we were in silver spring for the day and someone on reddit recommended it. What a great spot. All the food was phenomenal - delicious, and flavorful. We got the butter chicken, lamb korma, and chicken tikka masala. My favorite and what the waiter recommended was the lamb korma! The butter chicken is a classic you can never go wrong with. And the chicken Tikka masala has a nice tomato flavor. The samosas were very delicious! We also got the cucumber drink and the tamarind margarita. Both were absolutely delicious, but might i say they tasted like there was not much alcohol in them. i still enjoyed both drinks regardless. Refreshing and flavorful. Sometimes, accidental dinner plans work out so well. Orginially, we intended to visit another local restaurant; however, there was some confusion with that restaurant, so we ended up at Spice Street. Overall, our group had a very wonderful time. The restaurant, as well as the staff, was very warm and inviting. For me, the atmosphere was one of a snazzy restaurant with a low-key lounge vibe. Overall, I thought the menu prices were pretty fair in comparison to other Indian restaurants in the area. Ok, so a few of the dishes might be a bit up there in price, but these prices were not anything unreasonable. For my dining pleasure, I went with the Chicken Tikka Masala, which was absolutely amazing. The dish came with a large portion for food. Also, I thought the chicken was well-seasoned and cooked long and low to perfection. The dish was so good that I'm not sure if I will be able to try other dishes upon my next visit. ;) Although I cannot directly speak for the other folks at my table, I'm pretty sure that they were happy with their dishes. The food at Spice Street is amazing with so much variety, and I can highly recommend their service as well. We were able to snag a table for Valentine's Day evening on their website and they did NOT overbook - we were seated within 5 mins. of arriving. Service was prompt and attentive without being intrusive. The cocktails were innovative and delicious; we loved the jalapeño passion fruit cocktail (spicy!) and the ginger mojito. We were very hungry but decided on 4 smaller plates, which was exactly the right amount of food. Highly recommend their Crab Kathi Roll appetizer, the Crispy Spinach with Dates, the Chicken Cafreal and the Eggplant Fritters - although the mild spicing and flavor of the eggplant was outshone by the other robustly flavored items; still tasty though. Great Indian thalis (lunch only, but every day). They rotate the thali choices daily. It's a generous portion of food and includes three curries (choose from five), naan, rice, and dessert. Who remembers catching up with friends, family and colleagues over Indian cuisine at lunch? Especially at a buffet? Vegan, vegetarian, can't decide, in a hurry, got hours to stuff your face? Finally found a go-to buffet spot! So why will this review not be about a buffet? They have three menus so I'm coming back on a Monday or Wednesday, when they have rice pudding. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays have a second menu. Sundays and Fridays have the third. Also, the menus clearly designate what is gluten-free. And it's most of the menu. Woohoo! Everything reviewed here is gluten-free. Chai was good and they offered to dialed back on the milk. TYSM! I was so pleased and excited to have palak chaat, which I affectionately call fried salad. This version had a lot of chopped dates and a little tamarind chutney. Delicious with no fuss. I like some yogurt and diced tomatoes and onions (AKA fuss) on mine so I hooked up the leftovers at home. Lamb was the choice that day. The grilled lamb chops were so succulent and well seasoned that I still think of the flavors. Aloo palak was fine. To me the spinach was a softer purée than usual, the potatoes leaned firm and the salt level was a tad high. Did I eat it? Yep! The lamb korma was pretty tasty. Less distinctive cashew flavor and some lamb was less tender. And other pieces were much softer. The basmati rice was delicious. I was offered more to take home. Please and thank you! I wanted to eat and drink more but I got full too fast. Won't make that mistake again when I go back for the "pick 3" buffet!!! read more

DO NOT patronize this place. They are HOMOPHOBIC and RACIST. I went in to eat and they said it would be a 40 minute wait. I said ok. The host walked away towards the bar and I then saw the bartender smirk at me as if the host was making fun of me. So I went inside to the bar to ask if something was funny and noticed there were only 3 tables with white people taken and they were not busy at all. So that got me to thinking they didn't want me there because I'm black and gay. I then ask why 40 minutes when the restaurant is basically empty and they said oh because there was only one server. We went on a Monday evening. We secured a parking spot in front of the restaurant. Parking could be an issue on a busy night but it was practically empty. Probably 2 other tables had patrons. The service was nonetheless superb. We were seated as soon as we sat down. The waiter was very friendly and honest about the menu. I ordered the cardamom gin cocktail and it was good. Fair amount of alcohol and not too sweet. I tried the vegetable soup. It was piping hot and ok. The vegetables were too thin for my liking. My friend did not love the soup or his extra spicy vindaloo. My chicken tikka was delish and the nan was fresh and tasty. I am so glad I stumbled upon this spot. read more

Things shifted around after our meal, which is irrelevant, but we really enjoyed our dinner. The cocktails were super tasty and the Samosa Chaat was very good. I'd have preferred the sauces to be on the side, but that's a nitpick.It was super flavorful. The crab Kathi roll was new to us (we love Indian food) and was very tasty; it was easily a highlight. the naan and out other bread were very good. We were only given one bowl of rice for our mains: The veggie Korma and Chicken Makhani, but that makes sense and it was a good portion. Both mains were super flavorful and exactly what we wanted. I've been to the restaurant before and can say that the food is consistently good. I took photos but it doesn't show how good the food was. Ate here last night with a group of 9 adults and 1 toddler. They did such a lovely job of balancing everyone's needs and helping with the toddler by bringing bread right away. The toddler also had food allergies and they went out of their way to show us what she could eat. This is a pleasant little place with friendly service. We had heard raves about the thali lunch specials and were eager to try: one of us loves sampler platters! The thali consists of 3 choices of the 6 on offer - these vary depending on the day of the week. Between the two of us we were able to sample all 6 of the Sunday possibilities. Also included is your choice of bread and a small dessert. The consensus: at $16, the thali is good value for money. We ate our fill and still had leftovers to take home. I am a big fan of Spuce Street! I've been here twice now with family and we have really enjoyed ourselves. Ambiance and service are great! The star is the chicken vinadloo. It has a far more complex flavor then all the other versions I've tried in my many years. I prefer it to the lamb vindaloo, I felt that the chicken was more tender (in my visits at least). The shrimp Tikka was devoured quickly and the chicken makni was also very good. The samosa chaat with chickpeas (not sure if this is the name) was delicious. The mango chaat was also very good. The normal samosas are quite tasty and the fluffy garlic naan is always a must order. My only minor gripe is that the chicken Tikka masala had lots of green bell peppers in it, which changed the flavor profile. Not sure if that's how they normally make it, but it was a little odd, although still polished off in record time. This is my favorite Indian restaurant in DTSS by far! read more

I have to admit that I'm a little worried about this place. The food is amazing, the location is great, the prices are totally reasonable and yet during a weekday lunch there were only three tables filled. Come on people! I had the Tandoori Murg which is basically a half tandoori chicken and it was literally flawless. The cook, the flavor, the texture...all of it. This isn't one of those places that fakes their tandoori...they've got the oven in the back and they're not afraid to use it! The naan is just the way I like it. Not crunchy but with a little char on it - it tears apart but isn't chewy. Yum! The lunch special which my friend had was a steal. Three dishes, an order of naan and a dessert (Kheer...YUMMO!!!). This is the perfect midday lunch for the working Joe (or Josephine). The service and people were super nice and the decor is relaxing. I just don't get why this place isn't packed all-the-time! I came her for Happy Hour and Dinner and had a delectable experience. I had the tamarind margarita which had a fresh, aromatic taste and a sugar rim and it was so good. There was a perfect balance of delicious taste and expected strength from an alcoholic beverage. For an appetizer, I had the wings which were hot and delicious out the oven with a smokey taste. Then I got garlic naan with the chicken tiki masala and it was well seasoned and so flavorful. Your taste buds will be happy. I enjoyed the customer service and thought they were kind and attentive.
