OK overall. Went at 8:00 on a Saturday night yet there were few people dining. I ordered Minchet Abish and was told they were out and couldn't serve it. Seems strange to be out at 8:00 on a Saturday night with modest business. I don't believe they had so many orders that they ran out; they just chose not to make any on a Saturady might, imo. I picked this restaurant solely because the serve Minchet Abish, so I was very disappointed. Sambusa was good. We ordered the Veggie Combo, which came without the tomato salad listed on the menu. The best Ethiopian place we have found in many years! We tried the veggie sampler and the fish gulash and they were both incredible. Even our kid couldn't stop oohing and aahing with each bite. The veggie sampler had three types of lentils (yellow, mung/green, and a spicy red/brown), a smooth chickpea, collard greens, carrot and green beans, beets, and potato and cabbage. It's maybe the best selection of veggies and all very flavorful. Only the red/brown lentils were spicy. The fish had strips of tilapia, fried, and super tender in a tomato paste and onion sauce. I was visiting Silver Spring from out of town with a friend and was pleased to see all of the options available for Ethiopian cuisine in the area. We narrowed it down to Nazrawi Ethiopian Restaurant and couldn't have been more pleased with our choice. The staff was very welcoming and was burning a fresh ember of itan zaf as we were walking in. The ambiance was very relaxing. We chose Nazrawi Tibs, Awaze Tibs (lamb), and the vegetarian combo. It was absolutely excellent and some of the best Ethiopian I've ever had. Every single thing that arrived on our platter was delicious. I'm not always a "vegetarian" guy but I always get a vegetarian combo at every Ethiopian restaurant I try; I find it is a good indicator of quality. The beef came out sizzling and the lamb was spicy and rich and served on a bed of fresh njera. We had a huge portion of food and we ate more than I think either of us was expecting because it was just so good. We ended our meal with an excellent Ethiopian coffee set. All in all, this was just one of my favorite dining experiences I've had. The staff was wonderful and if I lived in the area, this would be one of my spots I would frequent regularly. I came in here for lunch with one other person. The restaurant was pretty empty so service was fast. The food was delicious! I got the Mahaberawi combo platter and it was the perfect platter with a little bit of everything. It's very filling without being too expensive. The other person I was with had a similar dish but it was vegetarian. He also really enjoyed his food. The service was great. Don't sleep on this place! This is easily one of my top 10 favorite restaurants in the DMV. They season their food so well that every item is bursting with flavor. I ordered the Mahaberawi - beef tibs (spicy or mild, you choose) w/ 3 sides, I chose the collard greens (ye'abasha gomen), yellow split peas (kik alicha), cabbage (tikil gomen) and injera. Normally, I also add Nazrawi Fish to my order - that's a whole fried fish w/ a side of marinated house salad but since I was eating alone I decided on the Mahaberawi by itself. It seems like a family-run operation in the good sense. The food took a bit to come, which to me is a good sign; when it comes too fast, it's always questionable. We had the veggy combo and the Nazrawi meat tips, everything was delicious, tasted home-cooked. Spice-rich, sauces with right consistency, tender meat, the collard greens and beets were my favorites. After a five week medical trip to Chicago we decided to take advantage of what our neighborhood is most known for: Ethiopian food. I have tried most of the restaurants here but Debab was one on my bucket list to try. We think it is now our favorite. We ordered two teas which had wonderful sweet spices to it as well as the Lamb Awaze Tibs and the Debab Special Tibs. Compared to the other restaurants that serve all sorts of alcohol and get loud, Debab has no liquor license which makes it good for families and those wanting a sober time with loved ones or friends. The tea is definitely a wonderful alternative to the beer or wine we would usually order at the other Ethiopian restaurants. The Lamb Awaze Tibs had a great kick to it, not overly spicy or minced so you can taste and feel the delicious lamb chunks. The Debab Special Tibs was also equally tasty and they definitely butter it better than the other restaurants. Next time, we will try some different dishes as they have an excellent variety and you can also create your own express plate here which is unique. The seats are also very comfortable as I just had surgery in sacrum to remove a tumor and it can be discomforting without my cushion that I forgot. Don't forget to check in so you can get a 20% off coupon and be sure to tip what is taken off to equal the original total, as the receipt suggests a lower tip based on the discounted total. Our server was on point and gave us injera when we were running low on it. I think we'll be back in June when my father comes to visit us as this our new favorite Ethiopian restaurant. read more

They didn't have an extensive menu, but they offer the greatest hits such as do to eat, etc. I was looking for lamb Shekla tibs, but they didn't offer that so the waiter recommended the lamb lega tibs instead. In addition to that we ordered the veggie combo as well. It was kind of odd that they show up as Debab on yelp and their menu still says Debab, but the sign outside of the restaurant says Nazwari. This was my first time trying Ethiopian food. We got the Debab special combo with the grilled beef and a Debab special tibs, which all came on one huge dish with a basket of the Ethiopian flatbreads (injera). I might be wrong here, but I think the dish is meant to be eaten with hands because no utensils were served, but they have forks in the back. Both the beef orders came sautéed with jalapeño peppers, which I really liked and would recommend if you're into spicy food. These two orders could have easily fed three people because my friend and I were stuffed by the end of the meal and we still had good amount of leftovers. To start this review off, I want to say that I was in a very special place. When I say that, this place simply told a story. It felt like I was in Ethiopia! I was greeted by a kind and warm staff, and my waitress was very knowledgable of the menu. I ended up ordering lamb tidbits, and they absolutely knocked my off of my socks! They were filled with so much flavor, it is almost hard to describe the essence of each bite. I also had a side of beans, tomato salad, collard greens, corn, and cabbage, and brown rice! All of the veggies were very fresh, and everything just meshed well together: They give you very generous portions, and this is by all means authentic Ethiopian food. On top of all of that goodness, the prices here are great. After eating the owner came out and asked me how everything was! This always speaks volumes in my opinion! Debab is dishing up some SOLID Ethiopian food in downtown Silver Spring. It is somewhat tucked in on one of the side streets with limited street parking. However, it wasn't too difficult to find parking around the block from the restaurant, and also had free parking on Saturday. I ordered the Injera Plate with stewed meat. Everything about it was perfect. All their vegetable dishes and meats were delicious. Injera was perfectly sour and spongy. We ended up getting another side order or Injera because we had extra toppings. The dish was more than enough for two people (I went with a friend and shared the dish). I definitely want to try their whole fish dish next time I'm in the area. There are several Ethiopian restaurants in the vicinity. I cannot speak for those Ethiopian resaturants, but I can definitely endorse for Debab! read more

I quite enjoyed the ambiance and spending time here with a new friend. The food was delicious and the Ethiopian beer seen below is mild and enjoyable. Our waitress was sweet and explained certain meals to me when I had a question. My only qualm was my friend and I asked for a couple more minutes to choose our dish on the menu and it seemed like 20 minutes or so went by before our waitress came back. There were little things like our waters weren't refilled or offered. Though things were at a leisurely pace, I would absolutely come back. Grandmama was back there cooking when I came in so I knew it was a good sign. The portion size is quite generous and it's nearly impossible to get solid Ethopian food fast; on the flip side I would have liked my veggies a little hotter. This place is incredible. It was like we walked into someone's house and they freshly cooked up an amazing meal for us. We had the Debab combo. They just opened up 10 days ago after renovations because I think this used to be ethio express grill. I'm not an expert on Ethiopian food but I've tried many places in DC and Maryland and this is the best. This was also just the best food I've had in a while in general because it was so fresh! You can tell the difference. I can see this place doing really well in the future and our family has designated it one of the places that we'll take our guests to eat. The lamb and beef was tender and flavorful; it has made me re-consider my choice of combination platters at ethiopian restaurants. But with that being said, the vegetarian dishes were incredible as well and I'd return without hesitation for those alone. The injera was soft and spongy with the right acidity to complement the dishes. Continued my tour of Ethiopian restaurants in the DMV with Debab as stop number 2. The ambiance of the place is quaint, they play good music and staff is friendly. They will let you seat yourself when you come in. I ordered the derek beef tibs (I really am going to venture out to another entree on my next stop. I promise ) and they were amazing. They were served juicy so it had lots of flavor and wasn't dry. My side was lentils which also were good. I have since been back there at least 4 more times to dine in and for takeout. I've also ordered the Awaze beef tibs which is also excellent. It's served in the thicker sauce than the derek tibs and is spicer. If you like spice you will love it. The side salad is very good. It's spicy but has amazing flavor and I highly recommend it. Why only 4 stars? For some odd reason when they serve drinks, they are served without ice. Not sure who wants to drink a warm drink but maybe there is some logic I don't know about. And on two visits I ordered the gomen (collard greens) as a side and they tasted burnt so I do not recommend getting them. Other than that, great food, great atmosphere, decent service. read more

This restaurant was probably the best we ate at while on vacation! The service was a highlight, we were served exceptionally well and had every question we asked answered. The food was delicious and I was especially impressed by the variety of dishes my group was able to enjoy, we had absolutely no complaints. I really enjoyed trying the Ethiopian alcohol they had available. This restaurant's ambiance was very pleasant, it really made you feel at home.
