Nazrawu Tibs, Awaze Tibs (lamb), Veggie Combo
    Dangerous D.

I was visiting Silver Spring from out of town with a friend and was pleased to see all of the options available for Ethiopian cuisine in the area. We narrowed it down to Nazrawi Ethiopian Restaurant and couldn't have been more pleased with our choice. The staff was very welcoming and was burning a fresh ember of itan zaf as we were walking in. The ambiance was very relaxing. We chose Nazrawi Tibs, Awaze Tibs (lamb), and the vegetarian combo. It was absolutely excellent and some of the best Ethiopian I've ever had. Every single thing that arrived on our platter was delicious. I'm not always a "vegetarian" guy but I always get a vegetarian combo at every Ethiopian restaurant I try; I find it is a good indicator of quality. The beef came out sizzling and the lamb was spicy and rich and served on a bed of fresh njera. We had a huge portion of food and we ate more than I think either of us was expecting because it was just so good. We ended our meal with an excellent Ethiopian coffee set. All in all, this was just one of my favorite dining experiences I've had. The staff was wonderful and if I lived in the area, this would be one of my spots I would frequent regularly. I can't recommend this place enough. A++ experience. Keep it up Nazrawi! I will be back again next time I'm in town!

I came in here for lunch with one other person. The restaurant was pretty empty so service was fast. The food was delicious! I got the Mahaberawi combo platter and it was the perfect platter with a little bit of everything. It's very filling without being too expensive. The other person I was with had a similar dish but it was vegetarian. He also really enjoyed his food. The service was great. Our waitress even packed our leftovers so that it wouldn't be such a mess. Silver Spring is full of great Ethiopian restaurants and this is definitely one of them.

This is one of the best Ethiopian restaurants in Silver Spring. That means a lot considering there are so many Ethiopian places in the area and the competition is high. I had Goat Awaze Tibs and it's reallllllly yum. It has hot chili in it. Very nice flavor. Good quantity. Service was good, went for dinner on a week night. They didn't have our favorite honey wine. They offered another sweet wine. My friend got a mix of two different kitfos and she liked them too. The restaurant seems spacious. Clean restrooms

Mahaberawi - beef tibs w/ collard greens (ye'abasha gomen), yellow split peas (kik alicha), cabbage (tikil gomen) and injera.

Don't sleep on this place! This is easily one of my top 10 favorite restaurants in the DMV. They season their food so well that every item is bursting with flavor. I ordered the Mahaberawi - beef tibs (spicy or mild, you choose) w/ 3 sides, I chose the collard greens (ye'abasha gomen), yellow split peas (kik alicha), cabbage (tikil gomen) and injera. Normally, I also add Nazrawi Fish to my order - that's a whole fried fish w/ a side of marinated house salad but since I was eating alone I decided on the Mahaberawi by itself. I could become a vegan the sides by themselves are so good. If you try this place, I promise you won't regret it, it's well worth the trip!

My first time going to this place, as usual another Yelp find, the ratings and reviews were a determining factor to give it try. I love Ethiopian food and I was bringing my little sis to have her first experience. The place was clean, felt inviting, nothing fancy but well kept. It seems like a family-run operation in the good sense. The food took a bit to come, which to me is a good sign; when it comes too fast, it's always questionable. We had the veggy combo and the Nazrawi meat tips, everything was delicious, tasted home-cooked. Spice-rich, sauces with right consistency, tender meat, the collard greens and beets were my favorites. I'm not Ethiopian but I've had plenty of injera, in many US cities, and this had the right balance of sour and fluffy. I had a positive experience, and the staff was nice. Ah, and we also had the Baklava for dessert.

I was excited to try this Ethiopian spot for the 1st time...especially since I saw the high Yelp reviews. When I got there, it wasn't busy so I thought the customer service would be top notch. I was wrong! The hostess/waitress didn't offer me any water...so I asked for tea thinking it would be exotic or authentic. I was surprised it was just plain ole Lipton tea then I looked to the left and noticed a strand of hair in the glass sugar container which ruined my appetite. It went downhill from there. This explains my poor review.

Delicious! I had the meat and veggie combo - everything was great. I've tried several Ethiopian restaurants in the area, and this is now my favorite :).

After a five week medical trip to Chicago we decided to take advantage of what our neighborhood is most known for: Ethiopian food. I have tried most of the restaurants here but Debab was one on my bucket list to try. We think it is now our favorite. We ordered two teas which had wonderful sweet spices to it as well as the Lamb Awaze Tibs and the Debab Special Tibs. Compared to the other restaurants that serve all sorts of alcohol and get loud, Debab has no liquor license which makes it good for families and those wanting a sober time with loved ones or friends. The tea is definitely a wonderful alternative to the beer or wine we would usually order at the other Ethiopian restaurants. The Lamb Awaze Tibs had a great kick to it, not overly spicy or minced so you can taste and feel the delicious lamb chunks. The Debab Special Tibs was also equally tasty and they definitely butter it better than the other restaurants. Next time, we will try some different dishes as they have an excellent variety and you can also create your own express plate here which is unique. The seats are also very comfortable as I just had surgery in sacrum to remove a tumor and it can be discomforting without my cushion that I forgot. Don't forget to check in so you can get a 20% off coupon and be sure to tip what is taken off to equal the original total, as the receipt suggests a lower tip based on the discounted total. Our server was on point and gave us injera when we were running low on it. I think we'll be back in June when my father comes to visit us as this our new favorite Ethiopian restaurant.

I found this restaurant after doing a Google search because I wanted authentic Ethiopian cuisine. The 5 star reviews were the truth! From the time I walked in for late lunch, the host and I believe manager, welcomed me to their restaurant. I had an appetizer and a main dish (vegetarian), all of which was absolutely delicious. This was more than enough for one sitting, so I have dinner or lunch tomorrow and priced nice. Shout out to the entire ladies in the kitchen, at the bar, and serving...

I had lunch here the other day and it was a nice experience. They didn't have an extensive menu, but they offer the greatest hits such as do to eat, etc. I was looking for lamb Shekla tibs, but they didn't offer that so the waiter recommended the lamb lega tibs instead. In addition to that we ordered the veggie combo as well. It was kind of odd that they show up as Debab on yelp and their menu still says Debab, but the sign outside of the restaurant says Nazwari. Maybe they changed ownership and haven't had a chance to update everything. Either way , the food was really good, fresh, and the service was quick. I look forward to stopping by here again next time I'm in the neighborhood.

This was my first time trying Ethiopian food. We got the Debab special combo with the grilled beef and a Debab special tibs, which all came on one huge dish with a basket of the Ethiopian flatbreads (injera). I might be wrong here, but I think the dish is meant to be eaten with hands because no utensils were served, but they have forks in the back. Both the beef orders came sautéed with jalapeño peppers, which I really liked and would recommend if you're into spicy food. These two orders could have easily fed three people because my friend and I were stuffed by the end of the meal and we still had good amount of leftovers. Loved the generous servings and the workers were super nice and friendly.

To start this review off, I want to say that I was in a very special place. When I say that, this place simply told a story. It felt like I was in Ethiopia! I was greeted by a kind and warm staff, and my waitress was very knowledgable of the menu. I ended up ordering lamb tidbits, and they absolutely knocked my off of my socks! They were filled with so much flavor, it is almost hard to describe the essence of each bite. I also had a side of beans, tomato salad, collard greens, corn, and cabbage, and brown rice! All of the veggies were very fresh, and everything just meshed well together: They give you very generous portions, and this is by all means authentic Ethiopian food. On top of all of that goodness, the prices here are great. After eating the owner came out and asked me how everything was! This always speaks volumes in my opinion! This was my first time trying Ethiopian food in a restaurant setting, and it was honestly beyond delicious!!! I will be back for more soon , cheers to more amazing times!

It was awesome to see the diversity of the diaspora from the African continent (East and West Africa) the Caribbean/Latin America, and America all in one safe space enjoying themselves without the performative and obnoxiousness from others I would give them that. The Billy Holliday mural and the interior design has a nice sleek, New American vibe. My problem is the service, the cost, and the food although solid, I cooked a brunch the following day myself not to brag (scrambled eggs and cheese, friend potatoes with diced green peppers and onions) that was masterful in comparison to the gingerbread style big ole French toast and fancy "scrambled eggs and cheese" this spot has. The service charge was ridiculous as my mom's bill was 70 plus bucks for just the seafood shrimp and grits which was nice, a very sweet pre-diabetic lemonade, and bread pudding that was like bougie Georgetown prices with the dominant culture. I paid 40 dollars (Hairstylist from Baby Boy!) for French toast, scrambled eggs with cheese and lemonade. The food is nice and all but nothing to die for. We came for the vibe, culture, and atmosphere also, but we do prefer the chains of Dennys and I-hop if I am not doing the cooking which is most of the time. The server would dirty mack and take a while flirting with women at the bar and playing around with staff, and I had to give a clinical gaze with my glasses and hand signal for him to return. We did ask up front about service charge and gratuity included from the beginning but they have a very Southern slow pace here that I agree with others and I am a very patient man and notice that. It can take a while to get your checks, get change, just other tasks that you would think would be handled more efficiently. The place attracts the social media crowd, with professional pictures, the glitz, the glamor the Hollywood red carpet of the DMV, but the structural integrity of the pricing, service, and experience needs to step its game up in the worst way. We certainly see this place being a bit turned up and precarious in later hours. The closest parking that is reliable enough is the Safeway garage so it is not the most convenient, where as at least Matchbox has the Wayne and Colesville garages to park at and then enter. It was nice to support the Black owned establishment but it is a 1 and done spot. Majic 102.3 put in the hype a couple of years ago, but I found the truth, no thanks, it is a performative culture that still has that ole Georgia Ave. street culture.

The lattes sadly weren't anything special and could probably benefit from some cinnamon or a flavor of some sort to bring a little personality to the drink. To eat, we ordered their waffles (sorry for the to-go pictures) I ordered the sweet corn waffle and my boyfriend ordered the waffles with fresh berries. The waffles were PHENOMENAL!!!!!!!!! Probably the best and most creative waffles I've had in a long time. The sweet corn waffles were magical. The addition of jalapeño peppers perfectly balanced off the sweet flavor seeping through the waffles. It was beautifully paired. The waffles were also very creamy and soft. Only downside is that I didn't care for the random garnish of corn of top but I get the presentation. This might have been better if it was seasoned or sautéed but the random corn didn't add or take away from the dish. My boyfriend lovedddddd his waffles and berries and said that it was the perfect breakfast selection. I'll definitely come back to order more waffles but also wished that they had a way of conducting pick up through their online portal.
