Cute place that was surprisingly quiet at 10am on a Sunday. The iced lattes were large and delicious. The breakfast sandwich is a two person meal; croissant with omelette on it, salad (fresh greens, tomato and red onion with balsamic vinegar), potato chips and fruit. I am so glad a patron warned us how big it was because if we had ordered two it would have been way too much. Really good though. The ambience is grandma's living room / antique shop rather than hip. They didn't have music blaring so I listened to my own with headphones. They have both comfy and table seating, more of the latter. Staff was friendly; service wasn't super fast but worth the wait. Zed's is a great place for coffee. My wife and I went there five years ago before we got together as a couple. In fact she turned me into coffee drinker after taking me there. We hope to go back soon as it is a very cozy and friendly place with great staff to have a cup of coffee. They temporarily closed due to staffing but we are glad they reopened so we definitely need to go back. read more

Tried here to work for a few hours this week. It's so cute in the pictures, I've always wanted to try it. We had neighbors getting construction this week so I worked there Wednesday morning for some peace. The menu is small, but mighty, the service is iffy, and the pastries are store bought and stale. The front of house guy who brings the food and prepared the drinks is awesome, accommodating, and polite. I ordered egg and cheese on croissant, which came with salad and fruit. I also got my standard americano with room for cream. The food was well made, the perfect temperature and had just right seasoning levels. The americano was a bit cold so I figure he'd let it set while the food was being made to run them together. I had asked for cream, it was forgotten, they don't have any Splenda, only sweet n low, and their teaspoons are tablespoons, but the food was good. I also ordered a muffin later just to see what their pastries were about. It had clearly been in the pastry case for more than 3 days. It was REVOLTINGLY stale. I returned and advised and he offered a "fresh one" - from the fridge, in plastic, from a bakery in NEW JERSEY. They'd be better off selling Costco muffins. That muffin was HORRIBLE. Sickeningly sweet, 7 blueberries that were clearly rehydrated in the batter, and tasted like oil and preservatives. Sad. However, I came to work! There were two tables there when I arrived, they left within 15/20 minutes. The bathroom was not clean AT ALL - toilet bowl was gross and it was 10:00 am and they were out of soap and toilet paper. Ewwwww. I pray there was a hand washing sink in the kitchen. Also, the cook or whomever was in the back was watching something on tv, yelling in Spanish loudly, and generally making a racket. This did not make for an easy or enjoyable working environment. The layout is lovely, the chairs are comfy, the tables are just the right size for individuals or small groups (read 2 people) so the vibe is work/co-work, but then the dude is yelling in the kitchen!!! The other thing is, there was NOBODY in the place but me and one other dude who'd long since eaten, and the tables from the other people hadn't been wiped. They were bussed, but not wiped. The floor wasn't swept. It was just a general aura of idgaf but that's young workers in 2023 I guess. The concept is good, but the execution is struggling. I want to hope it's a bad day but who knows. I would try again if I was in the area but would definitely not go out of my way given the parking plus the issues above. Okay, not Great. read more

I needed a cup of caffeine bad..long days call for plenty of coffee. I'm all for a local coffee shop and since my meter was paid I had time today. Some days I'm fairly social and others I barely say a word....today I had time to be social lol. I walked into Zeds and said I need a pick me up...20 min later I learned the barista lives in my neighborhood...I'm about an hour away from home looking to get a quick fix and just decided to stop..the place has a vibe look...great for a quick meeting with friends or a kick back by yourself. This part of silver spring is pretty busy at night..we talked for a good 20 min on menu items and coffee experiences...I ultimately settled for a classic red eye...I drink my coffee black now and had no problem with this one. Plenty of seating, ample complimentary toppings, and friendly service are all a part of Zeds...I have yet to experience the after hour experience but I'm open for it...give this local shop a try for yourself read more

I walked in and was greeted with the biggest smile! The barista took my order, and I sat down to wait. The shop is very cozy; it felt like I was at my aunt's house. Chill spot to work! I'm always on the lookout for a cozy coffee shop to work from home, write on my laptop or just to enjoy a nice latte. The environment feels like a mashup between cozy thrift store furniture finds and some DIY projects. I chose to sit at one of the stools at the rugged countertop made of a couple raw 2x4s. Stools were a bit too tall for the low countertop for long hours of laptop work (what I was trying to do that day) but there were plenty of other normal table/seat options which were already taken. I got a cappuccino with almond/oat milk. They have all the standard non-dairy options. Barista was kind enough to bring it to me. Although it did taste a bit different from other cappuccinos I've had. Could be the beans they used or the unusual milk combo. In any case, open to coming back and trying another drink. COVID content - Staff was masked. Most of the patrons were not wearing masks because they were eating/drinking but you choose where you sit. There is also a back door to an outside patio which is more COVID friendly. Definitely will be back. Perhaps with a friend next time to catch up over a coffee (or beer/wine!) read more

My stars are low because after I ordered my coffee, I turn around and see something moving under a chair. It was a small mouse and startled me. I just decided to drink outside instead. Started ordering an iced latte and caramel macchiato only to hear that the espresso machine was broken, as was the steamer...it was only one guy behind the counter, but no one else was ordering. I received a drink that didn't resemble coffee: it was a drink with two layers, the bottom layer being a shot or two of straight vanilla. The other order was a coffee with milk, and he presented the coffee with a teaspoon of milk for us to pour. Every Starbucks I've ever been to is filled with hipsters galore. It bothers me...so very much. You can imagine my delight when I found this place. The coffee is fresh and delicious. The service is attentive and quick. Nobody bothers you. Wi-fi is automatically available, no need to enter a password. Couches are comfy. People keep to themselves. Music plays softly in the background. Everything is absolutely perfect. The omelets are deliciously fluffy and there's an array of sandwiches to choose from...or do what I do, and order another coffee :) Definitely worth checking out!! read more

An eclectic hipster cafe with a very unassuming outside appearance. Plenty of seating for you to do some yelping and blogging on your laptops. The menu is a good handful select of diffent sandwiches and pastries. I got a simple lemongrass tea and tried to do some work. While they did supply WiFi, I feel a bit squished for the space. However there are some couches perfect for a friendly gathering. The soundtrack was a mix off upbeat indie music. The overall ambiance was great for doing busy work. read more

Where the heck have I been? I love this place. Yes it's true to the marketing- it is like a giant living room! So if you're alone or with a friend it is still comfy and inviting. I like the patio out back. I know what you're thinking, what patio? Uh huh, walk around the cash register and through the door and you'll see an eclectic assortment of furniture on a deck. Now there may be no rooftop view, but if you want to sit outside and enjoy a cup of coffee in piece in quiet (no cat calling, shenanigans or peddlers) it's a little oasis back there. The food is also delish. When I need a chocolate fix, I come here for a slice of their chocolate cake. It's rich and cures the urge for chocolate for a weeks. I recently tried their omelet. It's quite possibly the best $7 I've spent on breakfast so far this year (pic speaks for itself). The service is friendly and sometimes they top it off with a happy ending, a free cookie! read more

It wasn't crammed with folks peering over their laptops when I was there, but with considerate patrons actually having quite conversations. And I discovered that Zed's Cafe is so. much. more. than just a free Internet connection. It's full of random mismatched couches, comfy chairs and small tables, with art, local and otherwise, I believe, decorating the walls along with a cool selection of books. There's also a couple desktop computers and even a printer in one corner, apparently for public use. I think Zed was controlling the music from one of them; the playlist during my stay included reggae tunes, Christmas carols, Broadway numbers, and some Etta James to round it all out. If that's not awesome, I don't know what is. The caramel macchiato Zed made me was delicious (sweet and foamy!), and even the for-here cup was a winner: a mug-sized coffee cup on a saucer that definitely did not come from IKEA. I didn't see much in the way of food (I had a Yoplait yogurt, and also saw some croissants and other pastries, fruit, ice cream or gelato, and lots of chocolates and candy bars), but I see a menu of soups, sandwiches and salads on their website, so I wished I'd asked Zed what else he had going on back there. This is a fantastic place to plop down for an extended stay, do some work, studying, or surfing, and feel quite relaxed and at home the whole time. And hey, if you need a last minute gift, there's even gift baskets for sale! Not sure what's in them, but they're there! This place is such a gem that get's overpassed. It's a small entrance to a little hideaway that hosts treats and amazing customer service. I haven't made it into the back patio - where I've heard rumors of a turn table being set up so you can bring your own records and play. The fact that I haven't been there to work is a true miracle, actually really a product of my ADD. But the one time I have gone in, I have received amazing customer service from a man who I believe to be Zed, and an iced coffee that I could of made sweet love to. Product is good, people are good. There motto is "One Big Living Room." Independently owned. There are couches and seats and what not. Yelpers paradise. Gotta hit this place up again real soon! read more

To the owners: could you please clone your place and put one in Alexandria's West End??? I'm the type of weirdo that if I need a place to study and I'm within 30 minutes of a place that's rated well enough that I'll check it out. I was in DC and this cafe was exactly 27 minutes away...sure I could have went back to Alexandria and went to a coffee shop there but for all the good coffee there might be in Alexandria, there's no place that has good food, good coffee AND good ambiance. This place has all three. So cute with all the knick knacks and art that doesn't-go-together-but-kind-of-does-in-a-quirky-way. Had the omelette with the tomato, bacon, onion and added spinach. Zed's Cafe is simply charming. I arrived one sunny afternoon to meet a friend so we could form a game plan for the Gov Ball in NYC. There was ample seating- at a counter by the window, at tables and a couch. I opted for the larger table. I ordered a latte at the counter and the smiling waitress brought it over to where I was sitting. She felt that she took too long from when I ordered it to when she delivered it so she gave me a piece of almond chocolate to go with my latte. The latte was much bigger than I expected and totally delicious. The wi-fi was not working for me but I latched on to the neighboring restaurant's free wi-fi no problem. In the end, my friend had to cancel but I'm glad I came to Zed's anyway. Upon leaving, I believe Zed came and he thanked me for coming and enjoying a latte. You definitely need to hit up Zed's, esp if you have work to do. The people are so friendly! Just pop in with your laptop, order up a coffee or any of their other eats/treats and get cozy. read more
