The drinks came out first and the bakery items we ordered from the display case were heated up and brought out shortly after. We came for the mango sticky rice toast which was brought out shortly after we finished the savory baked goods. It was delicious! Mangos aren't in season yet so they were a bit tart but I thought it was a nice contrast to all the sweetness. It's a small cozy cafe. I got to say this is probably my favorite place for desserts in the area now. Their Southeast Asian fusion desserts are amazing. I got mango sticky rice loft toast, and it was amazing. This was a cute place, just inconvenient to get to (and I didn't have the best experience/had uncomfortable encounters on my way in and out of here. Happy to know there is a locally owned cafe with great food and drinks in Downtown Silver Spring area. The cafe itself is located two doors down from the Fillmore across the street from the "mall". Inside has lots of lighting and good amount of seating but is a bit narrow so depending on time of day you may want to pick up an order and go. They also have seating right outside. Staff were super friendly and willing to answer questions on shop items if needed. We ordered a Thai tea, a matcha, the ham and cheese croissant, and the Thai bread pudding. I stopped by Sweeteria for a coffee before a movie last week. I needed a coffee and a place to sit and read my book for a bit before my movie started, and a lot of places were closed the day after Christmas. Sweeteria was open so I popped in. Sweeteria is a Thai-inspired dessert cafe, so most of what they offer are desserts: honey toasts, French toasts, custard buns, crepes and more. They also offer lots of beverages and drinks: butterfly pea lemonade, milk lattes, frozen drinks... I didn't want to order my standard Americano - Sweeteria inspired me to try something different. I ordered a Thai coffee to try something different. Unfortunately, it was much too sweet for me. I love the smell of Sweeteria - you almost get a sugar rush from walking in - but I'm afraid I don't have enough of a sweet tooth for it. I wish they had one or two more savory dessert or beverage options - something fun and delicious for those of us without a sweet tooth. But it's a comfortable place and the customer service was good. This place is open in the mornings, and I stopped by at least five minutes after the posting time to find nobody there. There wasn't even evidence of anyone setting up inside. This is a big red flag for me and I had places to be, but I roamed around Silver Spring for twenty minutes or so on the theory that this place would be worth the trouble. And indeed, it is That Good. While Asian desserts are in vogue, I don't think I've seen anything quite like the specific Thai flavorings they offer here, primarily delivered on fancy toast. This is a wheat, dairy, and eggs place, which they make clear, but they do offer a coconut-based vegan cheesecake. For me, premium desserts are among the modest amount of non-vegan items that I eat. The elements of a top quality dessert you'd find at a high-end restaurant were all here. The bread is a bit savory and offers contrast to the sweeter flavors. Fresh fruit is abundant, flavors are creative, and textures vary. My Thai tea custard was amazing, and every ingredient on my delectable looking toast made it totally worth skipping breakfast (and lunch) for. They had beverages, but I didn't want even more sugar, so I went with a coconut water with some butterfly pea flower, an interesting color experience that adds a bitter note for contrast. This was impressively presented as well. They had some more conventional bakery items and such, but the fancy ice cream toasts are unmissable in my view. They carry a variety of Thai style selections (Thai toast, sticky rice and custard buns) as well as Taiwanese style cheesecakes, croissants and panna cotta. We got 2 croissants (crème brûlée and chocolate). Staff offered to heat both up for us and we obliged. The crème brûlée croissant had a rich, custard like filling that wasn't too heavy or sweet. The chocolate croissant was a pleasant surprise. Instead of the usual pan du chocolate offering, it was a butter croissant filled upon order with chocolate mousse and wafer cookies topped with chocolate sauce drizzle. Both croissants were buttery and flaky, enjoyed them. The staff refilled our water regularly. The shop is adorned with teddy bears in the window as well as a giant one sitting on a bench.
