My friend and I just finished our lunch here and the experience was superb. We ordered 3 dishes (pictured below). The beef chow fun was an absolute banger. One bite was enough for me to know the dish was prepared to near perfection. The high heat (not spice) of the dish remained within the noodles. The touch of oil was apparent and not overwhelming. This dish was amazing. The roasted duck noodle soup was also great. The duck was juicy and tender. The soup balanced out the duck's greasiness. A fine dish as well. The GuiFei chicken was okay to good. The chicken was slightly dry, but it was still tasty. This dish was definitely a miss on my judgment but it was good enough. Recently, I ordered lunch from Noodle King Restaurant (via Grubhub), and I had a overall positive experience. For lunch, I went with a Beef Noodle Soup and and order of Crab Wontons. Generally speaking, I thought the food was fine. Was the food amazing? No. BUT, it was not horrible - I would say that my meal was slightly above average. Also, I thought the prices and portion sizes were pretty fair. I think the noodle soup was about $14 and the wontons were about $7. My order arrived to my home around 45ish minutes. However, I think the delivery aspect is more of a Grubhub thing rather than the restaurant. While the restaurant provided separate containers for the noodles and the broth, I wish they provided a larger container to mix the soup and noodles like many of the ramen and pho places provided for its delivery/take-out orders. Although I was not blown away by the food, it was good enough for me to reorder in the future. read more

Don't the view from the road deter you from coming here. From the road, it looks like this place is closed, but if you drive into the parking lot, you will see it is open. The interior is a little dated, but clean. This was our first time here, so we figured we should get noodles. We got the beef chow fun (dry) and the triple delight pan fried noodles. Both were excellent. A lot of smoky flavor in the beef chow fun and a good portion size of tender beef. The pan fried noodles was delicious. We really enjoyed the hot oil on the table too. Oh man, don't sleep on this place. As a fellow Canto person, this food is the real deal. It's a well known place in the nearby hood, but it's a shame it hasn't been written up much, as it really should be well known as one of the better, if not best, Cantonese places in the DMV. There I said it. It's just not in the flashier Chinese food mecca known to be Rockville. You'll have to know what the more legit dishes are vs the Americanized ones, but they definitely can do both well. Yes, it's dumpy on the outside, but don't let that fool you. Our new find for comforting Cantonese food in the area! We had the roast duck noodle soup, fried tofu with salt and pepper, udon noodles with vegetables and chicken in chicken broth and the ja jain mein noodles! All the dishes were packed with flavor and very enjoyable, our 3 year old slurped down the duck and egg noodles while our 21 month old enjoyed her udon and chicken broth! Came to Noodle King for a late lunch with friends and had a good meal. We ordered the seafood pan-fried noodles, beef chow fun (dry), beef noodle soup, and chicken wings. Noodle King is another example of that old adage: "you never know where you'll find good food!" A friend mentioned that there was a restaurant located off of New Hampshire Ave in a section of the Colesville/Silver Spring area serving up old skool Cantonese fare. So we decided to pop in and I'm so glad we did. Noodle King shares a small lot with the Hollywood Beer and Wine store and Clips Barber shop, so parking can be tight; be prepared to park along one of the adjacent neighborhood streets. Interesting exterior with a few tables for outdoor dining in the warmer months, and plant and greenery along the wall right before you get to the front door. Upon walking in, the diner is transported to the 1980's with low tables, metal chair, wooden panel chair molding, and formica table tops which have had the veneer worn down from years of cleaning. There is a dining area off the right with a lazy susan in the middle of the table for larger groups. I was a bit skeptical at first, but the food is legit. One of the standard bearers of any good Canto place is the Seafood Fried noodles, or Hosin Chow Mein. Jumbo shrimp, pieces of calamari, tender pieces of fish, scallops, and imitation crab meat was gently tossed in a mild clear sauce and mixed with veggies atop crispy deep fried egg noodles. I dunno if it's as good as the joints I enjoyed as kid growing up in NYC, but for the 'burbs of Montgomery county...it was delish! The wonton noodle soup was uneven. The noodles were boiled properly without being overcooked and had a nice springy texture. But the soup broth was...meh. It tasted more of a generic chicken broth but needed salt and more umami flavor. But the wontons were tasty. They were definitely handmade as indicated by their irregular shapes (unlike some places which use frozen mass produced varieties) and stuffed with shrimp, pork, and veggies. Both dishes were accentuated by using a mixture of the provided table chili oil and soy sauce. Service was efficient and friendly, and the aunties running around the dining room appreciated my brief conversations with them in Cantonese, since that dialect seems to be disappearing from the Chinese language diaspora. Didn't get to sample any of the BBQ meats displayed in the window behind the cash register, but I'll definitely try the next I'm in the area. Noodle King has earned it's 4 star rating! read more

The only rule we have when visiting our family and friends anywhere near Silver Spring is that we must have at least one meal at Noodle King. It does not matter if we are visiting the friends who live down the block or the family that lives 100 miles away, all that matters is that we will have one of our favorite meals at least once as long as we are close enough to drive. One order of Szechwan String Beans, at least one order of Deep Fried Spicy seafood (fish, calamari or mixed) and whatever else might catch our fancy on that day and we know without a doubt that the remainder of our trip will be filled with memories of these flavors. The good news is that everything else we've tried has also been very good, just not good enough to be what brings us back over and over again. One word of warning for those that order the standard Chinese American dishes - think sweet and sour anything, beef with broccoli, and the like- you might not be as happy as those that order the more traditionally Chinese foods. The French Beef cubes are delightful and are probably as close as you might find to the flavors you seek, but I urge you to try something new and keep your mind and tastebuds open. Noodle king is not fancy. It's a simple restaurant filled with big round tables and not much decoration. It features friendly but efficient service and has a constant stream of people picking up take out orders while you eat. None of this matters if you like the food, and I hope you do! read more

U m a m i Pan fried meat dumplings: i am personally a big fan of these thicker doughier chonky dumplings but if you're not into a doughy bite it might not be for you Deep Fried Spicy Salted Calamari: SO GOOD I love calamari already, but this is perfectly salty and spicy . Order this every single time. I just had it and I would eat it again right now. Beef chow fun: i love this dish anywhere, but there is something extra tasty about the gravy here, I can't explain it Tapioca: this was a surprise free dessert only available on weekends. It's so unassuming and isn't much to look at but it's actually very light and pleasant. I would never order it on my own but I'll always eat it if they bring it, you know? It's a definitive hole in the wall - the entrance is facing the parking lot and the back of the restaurant faces the street. It's the kind of place you drive past a hundred times and ignore because it's not much from outside, but you step in and it's almost entirely Asian families so you know they know what they're doing. You will miss this gem if you don't look carefully...you go in through the back...when we walked eyes were on us because it was all Asian customers and they thought we were door dash ! We told them we would like to be seated, they said sit anywhere. Decided to try there lunch specials for the first time and something I never had before there. I ordered the Sweet and Sour Chicken and upgraded the rice to fry rice for an extra $3 charge. It came with a one spring roll which tasted good just a bit too oily. I really wanted to like my order but sadly disappointed. The sweet and sour chicken was heavy breaded. It taste like something anyone could buy in the frozen section of the grocery and make at home themselves. Even the sweet and sour sauce tasted like store brought and was very sparing on the chicken. Greatly lacking in quality and flavor. For these reasons I usually don't order this item as I'm picky and it's had to find restaurants that make a quality and flavorful version that's worth eating. I'm surprised by Noodle King because other dishes I had was just the opposite. See my first review. The fry rice was very basic and I'm still trying to figure out what I paid $3 extra dollars for.... the oil they had to fry it in. No egg nor vegetables was added. Nothing as you can see from the picture. I was quite surprised by this as well since I always order fry rice from there. One of my favorites. We were nearby around dinner time and I found this place on yelp. As others have noted, it's hard to tell that it's even open from the main road (New Hampshire Ave). But we drive around back and went inside... ... and found a cozy little hole in the wall with quick service, friendly staff, and good food. We had seafood fried rice, roast duck and beef noodles. All great. We were all impressed. Not sure if I'd drive out of DC for this but if you're in the area it's a solid choice. Total price $58 without tip. read more

I thought I had reviewed before but guess I hadn't. We really like the Singapore noodles and the sizzling noodles. I know there were other dishes we ordered in the past that were good and some that were just ok but apparently I slacked on the job of recording them. I know I wasn't impressed with Wonderful Chicken from our first visit and I ordered a tofu dish at lunch one time that was bland but can't remember which one. These notes are more for myself than anything, as we come back in future I'll try to be more specific. Last night our friend got kung pao tofu that looked good (we didn't try) and veggie lo mein that looked a bit dry to me and had a stray piece of chicken in it so she got squicked. Although the location is a bit strange, it is a great spot for good authentic Chinese food. They have all the usual take out fare, but also additional select Cantonese-style dishes that hit the spot. Downsides are the place has a unique smell and not the most elegant looking place (but it does add to the authenticity for me). read more

I stumbled upon this restaurant based on my fellow Yelpers. I also have driven past this location several times, but never noticed the restaurant. Tons of free parking and accepts both cash and credit card. If you are familiar with the Cantonese food businesses in the Wheaton MD area, then you will know how popular those cuisines can be. I decided to give this place a try as other Cantonese restaurants do not have their full menu due to supply shortages from the COVID-19 outbreak. As of August 2021, they do have dine in eating at their establishment. The restaurant is located in a busy street and inside a very unusual parking lot. It can be confusing. Just remember that the entrance is next to the parking lot. The entrance is not adjacent from the street and that door leads to the kitchen and not the customer area. Tons of free parking here. Upon entering inside, it has very similar decorations as the other Cantonese restaurants that I've witness. We ordered several dishes such as the pork and preserved egg congee, duck noodle soup, shrimp wonton, and their fried bean curd w/ veggies. The pork and preserved egg congee was pretty tasty. Tons of pork and not too salty. It comes in a quart size container so you can definitely share with others The Duck Noodle soup was pretty good. Given that the pandemic has impacted suppliers of certain foods, it impacted many restaurants that normally sell this protein. Luckily, this restaurant still had it. The duck was a bit on the fatty side, but the meat was very tender. Tasted quite fresh. The noodles had a nice pull and had a nice bite to it. Also comes with some green veggies (boy choy). We request the wonton added to the soup which was about $4 extra. Might as well order their small wonton soup for that price., The bean curd w/ veggies was nice and light. Tons of variety of vegetables with tender tofu. The staff here were very friendly. Tons of tables inside the establishment. If you are in the area and in the mood of Cantonese food, this is a good option. Prices are reasonable. Prices of certain BBQ items have increased. Otherwise worth giving this place a try. I love Noodle King! It's an extremely consistent and reliable take out spot for me. That said, you have to know what to order here because not all dishes are created equal. The ones that are good are really consistently good, such as all of the Hong Kong Noodle Soups (my favorite is the shrimp dumpling), basically all of the noodles because duh (my favorites are all the chow funs and Ja-Jain Mein Beijing Style), the roast duck, mapo tofu, the shrimp toast, and spicy wontons. I would say stick to these and other authentic Chinese rather than Chinese American dishes and enjoy! read more

Last month my wife and I ordered a Roast Duck Noodle Soup, an Orange Chicken, and a Malaysian Style Curry Beef from UberEats which we loved. The portion sizes are very generous so we had plenty of leftovers. We look forward to ordering from here or dining here in person in the future. read more

This was our first visit for carryout dinner on 2/12/21, which was the start of the lunar new year. We called at 2:30 and placed our order for pick up at 4:30. You may pay in advance or wait until pickup arrival. The latter option is good in case parts of your order is missing. We arrived 5 minutes beforehand, and our ready was still being packed. It was fairly busy since it was a big holiday. We waited 10 minutes. We got a whole Peking duck for $39.95 that is normally priced for $34.95. Other entrees we ordered were at the prices listed on their website. Overall, the food tasted great and were large. Service was friendly. The prices are a little higher. Much better than going to Full Key in Wheaton, which is slow with service and parking is limited. read more

We went here for lunch today after church. It was busy today since it's Sunday. But they were able to accommodate us quickly. The food came quickly and it was all very delicious. We had the fried rice with chicken and salted fish! Yummy! My favorite was the Deep Fried Spicy Porkchops. They were amazing. The flavors is so on point! The Chinese broccoli was so simple yet really flavorful. And of course the Beef brisket Noodles was exceptionally great! tbh as I pulled into the parking area, it took my wife several minutes to convince me to get out of the car because the area looked so...I mean, was it even open? was it actually abandoned? Looking from New Hampshire Ave side, you would think even more so. But as it turned out, we went in, and it opened up to a pretty decent indoor dining set-up: clean, tastefully decorated, and, whoa, actually run by Asians. The menus are even written in both English & Chinese on real menus, not just paper. The tea was legit black tea, strong. I got a lunch special - beef & broccoli. It's so White, I know, but it's also one of the "standards I use to compare very basic dishes. Gotta say, it was pretty good! Broccoli bright green, not overcooked, tasty. Beef was TENDER, nice cuts, very flavorful, "the good stuff" (not some cheap cut that's tough & chewy). and it wasn't skimpy on the beef. Sauce was classic, went great into the rice. Lunch specials also include either an egg roll (pass on principle) or 1 of 3 soups. I like to use hot & sour soup also as a standard measure. It was full bodied, had a nice kick, nice combo of tofu & other normal ingredients. didn't have pork though, but as a side soup, I could live with that. As a standalone, though, it's gotta have pork. But for $9.95, what a great deal! My wife got the soup noodle with beef brisket. Pretty good too. The broth is on the lighter side (probably to keep people from needing blood pressure pills). The beef was good, flavorful - could be a little more tender? but still very good. and it included bok choy, pretty legit. She also wanted to try out the honeh walnut shrimp. These shrimp were no shrimps, they were generous tiger prawns. very plump, fresh tasting, classic taste. The walnuts were ok, not as candied as other places. and I know restaurants have greatly increased the price for this dish, so be prepared to pay that top price for this. Last but not least, we got pan-fried dumplings & char-siu (roast pork) to go. Dumplings are another standard dish I use to compare Chinese restaurants. Many don't even use pork anymore, they use chicken (insert barf emoji). Many also add veg fillers. This place does neither. Near 100% pirk, flavorful and with my preferred THICK skin (dough). Decent size too. I could eat just these as a full meal. The char-siu was also very tender, very succulent, easy to eat in one sitting (and probably refusing to share). I'm so happy to finally have found a legit Chinese restaurant closer to the White Oak area and not have to schlep all the way to Rockville!! I'd just probably go during the light of day? Personally, if this place was not vouched by my friends - I don't think I would have tried it! But don't let the outside fool you! This small restaurant behind a hair shop had surprisingly pretty good food! It does seem a little run down inside but the service is quick and simple inside this quiet little place (a plus if you can speak Cantonese to them as well!) For a party of 8 we had the hot and sour soup (good) and the egg drop soup (pretty rich but a little too rich for myself). Chef's special noodle did not disappoint, definitely hit the msg craving. Tomato beef over rice was delicious! Tender beef, soft tomatoes, and the flavoring wasn't strong at all! The snow pea leaves were my favorite! Perfect seasoning and easy to eat! The Mapo tofu was good but a little bland and definitely was not spicy at all. They also gave us a hefty portion of Peking duck! Had plenty of crispy skin and the buns were super soft and puffy!
