I hadn't been back here in a while and I had gotten a Groupon to use (Mon-Thurs only). It required dine in, which I didn't expect, but didn't mind. I was greeted warmly and able to choose my seat. There was one other individual at a table and a couple of people at the sushi bar area. The server checked in on me and asked if I wanted something to drink. I hadn't realized I came during happy hour, which was perfect. I ordered the sushi platter, DC monument II (no longer on the menu but they can still make it), and spicy tuna with a pomegranate ginger ale. I was also offered miso soup. Everything came quickly. We found this place randomly after the Festival of Lights at the nearby Mormon Temple a week before Christmas for dinner. It's attached to Ana apartment complex which was a bit confusing as first. There weren't too many people inside when we walked in but we were starved! The service was great. There were many wait staff ready to serve us. We ordered the veggie dumplings and shrimp dumplings to start - highly recommend the shrimp ones! They also offered miso soup since it was a bit chilly which was a great choice! We got a bunch of rolls for the table. They were all pretty good but my favorite was the shrimp tempura roll. There could have been a bit more eel sauce on it for my liking as someone also with me agreed that the sauces on their rolls were lacking but overall they were delicious! read more

I don't think the ingredients are particularly high-quality or fresh. Would not come back. Food is 2 stars. As a sign, none of the staff (including the owner) appear to be Japanese. Ikko is my self-date-night spot. When I want to just have a nice meal with myself, I always find myself here, but I see all sorts of guests. You really can't go wrong with good sushi, I guess. The service is always timely and friendly without being theatrical, which I appreciate (especially when I'm listening to music or reading a book!). The restaurant itself is always clean and the dining area is very presentable, which always makes me more comfortable about eating in. I almost always get the broccoli yaki as my appetizer, and it's so simple but so good. It's always cooked just right and has a perfect sauce over it. I've tried a variety of sushi rolls, but end up getting the fried (I believe it's the Las Vegas Roll) each time because I'm southern and fried food is the best food :) I always love that you get fruit at the end of the meal to cleanse the palate, which is a great way to end the experience. Literally the only thing I can think of to improve the experience would be for them to offer tempura ice cream and I would actually be there every night. read more

The space is a little small but feels cozy and it's centrally located. If you're there in person, and like rolls, try out the monument roll. It's different. Certain not sushi worth writing home about but a convenient location with good service and reasonable options. Best thing on the menu is the Monument. I can't recommend the dumplings and the edamame is basically steamed with no salt. The service is always super friendly and it's such a convenient location to all the apartment buildings and the NOAA building near by. Wish I knew about this place sooner! It's tucked under an apartment building so it's easy to miss. It's a small establishment and pretty clean. They have awkward opening and closing times. So before going just make sure they are open. The hostess was very warm and attentive. Their sushi was SO good! There is so much more I have to explore on their menu but their Spider Roll and Firecracker Roll were perfect. No complaints at all. I love a good Spider Roll and this was the best I've had so far. The sushi chef's definitely seemed to know what they were doing! They also wore gloves when making the sushi as well, which is definitely a plus. I live across the street from Ikko Sushi, which is located in the Bennington apartment building. I decided to try it out. There is a small dining area inside and plenty of outdoor seating. It had steady customers each of the three times I came in. I ordered takeout directly at the counter inside. The service is GREAT and the real reason for my review. Across my three visits, I ordered sashimi, beef udon, shrimp shumai, shoyu ramen, and yakisoba. They also have about twelve alcohol (sake) options to-go and I ordered two different kinds across my three visits. The sake is good. The food just isn't anything to write home about. Everything had a similar flavor across dishes and wasn't all that flavorful. It tasted bland. That being said, the sashimi was fresh and they had a nice variety and big pieces. I think that's where they might shine. I will try the sushi again, but won't order anything off the rest of the menu. I will probably stop in for some sake from time to time. read more

If you're lucky, you'll get Amber as your waitress; we were fortunate to have her when she was volunteering to help out at Ikko. Amber was attentive and patient and even brought me a new pair of chopsticks three seconds after I dropped my pair. We were sitting outside and I didn't think anyone had noticed but there she came as my savior with a new pair! I ordered the veggie and sweet potato roll and enjoyed both. The sweet potato roll was awesome and came with some added crunch on top. My boyfriend had the crab and sweet potato roll. Our meals also came with free miso soup and a bowl of edamame on the house. Miso soup was soothing! Much to my surprise and satisfaction, we were given two servings of watermelon for dessert since it's "good for my skin." It was the best summer treat ever! I ate two slices and then had no shame in saying I would take two more because it was so sweet and refreshing. I would really give Ikko 4.5 stars but I ordered take out the other day and the two cardboard cartons of miso soup imploded in my bag and there was tofu and seaweed swimming around by the time we got home. Little sushi spot that's kinda tucked away under an apartment building. A bit hard to find only because there aren't other restaurants or shops immediately adjacent to it. There's street parking and a parking lot behind the building (so I was told). I didn't have trouble finding street parking on a Saturday evening though. My friend and I ordered 3 tuna rolls and a firecracker roll. Both were good, nothing extraordinary, but I will say that they give you a good amount of tuna in the tuna rolls. The rolls look small, but that's because unlike other sushi establishments, Ikko doesn't 'fill up space' with more rice in the roll. I appreciate that. I also liked that miso soup came with our rolls, to our surprise. Apparently they give you complimentary soup if you order alcohol. Yay! There was plenty of outdoor seating--definitely a plus when there's nice weather. And of course, indoor seating as well. It's a small place, but with the current volume of customers, I don't think seating would be an issue. The staff are really nice and accommodating as well. I would definitely come back! read more

The manager on duty on Saturday, May 1 was very unprofessional and ill-mannered. He threatened me and attempted to intimidate me because I told his employee that I wanted to post online so that others are aware about the "shumai" menu item. I got warmed-from-frozen, makeshift, Korean grocery store-purchased shrimp dumplings. (You will know if you have ever purchased them yourself.) As my son put it, "Mom, the frozen P.F. Never realized how good the deal is here during weekday lunches. Huge fan of the Love Roll, Shrimp Tempura Roll, Yellowtail, and Salmon Rolls. The Love Roll was by far my favorite, but the Asahi Roll is now my clear cut winner. I just had it today and can't wait to have it again. I've also had the Monument Roll in the past and it was delicious as well. Great customer service here and they did a good job with the seating arrangements. Went on a Saturday night, ordered salmon, sumai & beef ramen which were all great. I proceeded to order bulgogi udon because I wanted to try it, however, once it came to the table & I tasted it, I realized I did not like it. took one bite and the server grabbed it off my table after telling him I didn't like it. The bill comes and I asked my server if he took it off the bill, he says yes. I get the receipt back and it's still on there, meaning they STILL charged me for it after taking it back. The server gets her manager and he comes to the table, his approach was very rude as if I was wrong for not liking it. he says with an attitude "you ordered something you didn't like?!" I said "Yes! and was still charged for it so how can we compensate for this?" both him and the server continue to ask me what was wrong with it. from my understanding, just because you don't like something doesn't mean something is wrong with it... it could simply just not be for me! The manager also asked the server "so where is the udon noodles" as if I lied about taking it back. why do you even care where it is, are you going to take it and give it to another customer after I've already put my chopsticks in the bowl? I'm appreciative of the refund but after jumping through hoops just to get it, I can't recommend this place. Money hungry people! hopefully everyone likes their food when they come or they'll still have to pay and/or have difficulties getting a refund while being met with aggression. read more

However, today was my first day since the start of the pandemic and I was terribly disappointed with their customer service. The restaurant closes at 10 pm according to Google and restaurant website. I drove as quickly as I could and walked in at 9.57 pm to order take out. The door was propped open to let people know they were open and also there were at least 6+ diners at the restaurant. I walked in and stood there for a minute after several glances from the staff and then I was told that the kitchen closes at 9.30 pm. There is no mention anywhere about this fact and the door to the restaurant was propped open invitingly. I eat at Ikko fairly often as it's super close to my office. Because of that, I forget to review it. Sorry. The bottom line to sushi is that sushi is about rice and not necessarily fish. The rice at Ikko is unparalleled. It's always the perfect temperature, consistency, and texture. Its flavor is excellent. The fish that accompany their sushi/sashimi is wildly inconsistent. I've had sushi there where I'd swear a master chef was flown in from Japan - perfect slices, consistent thickness, accurate across the grain, and a freshness of fish straight out of the water. Other times, it's like there's a sous sous sous chef behind the counter who's just hacking his way through some fish he picked up at Giant across the street. To be fair, the latter is rare, but it has occurred. I guess what I'm saying is that if you've had a bad experience here, try it again; it'll probably be better the next time. BUT...if you are taking someone out to impress them with flawless sushi, then you're taking a gamble by going here. read more

It was still very crowded and we had a party of 6, so we had to wait a couple minutes for a few tables to clear out next to each other so we could combine them to sit together. If you have a large party, I would advise to put in a reservation or go in during off-hours. The menu is fairly extensive and there is street parking free after 6pm. They also have garage parking across the street for $7. I really liked how each person with any order receives a miso soup and salad with peanut sauce. I had the Love Roll which consists of eel, tuna, avacado, and salmon. The fish was very fresh and melted in my mouth. My boyfriend got the Monument 2 which was a more unique dish than I've witnessed at other Japanese restaurants (see attached picture). He really enjoyed the texture and taste. A friend recommended this place to me. I was in the area for something so we decided to come here. It's a convenient distance to the silver spring metro. They have a good selection of sushi. Having recently given birth to my daughter, I was ready for some post-pregnancy sushi! I ordered the fried Philadelphia roll, some tuna sashimi, and saba, my default favorite. I personally liked the fried Philadelphia roll because the heat from frying made the cream cheese really soft and melty. I could see others not liking that. Tuna was as expected, and I was pleasantly satisifed by the saba. Some places give you sad pieces of fish, but yhe saba were good sized, and it must've been the end piece because they gave me an extra chunk. Sooo good. Two of us had salad, miso soup, green tea, and plenty of sushi for about $35 before tip. I think for the location and quality of sushi, it was a very reasonable price. This is a hidden gem underneath the NOAA offices. We found parking a garage that serves the metro station near by and it was a short walk to the restaurant. It was busy on a Friday at lunch time but wasn't packed and we got a table easily. We both ordered from the lunch menu and he got the fish bento box which came with a miso soup, and I got the udon which came with 5 California rolls. My boyfriend liked the miso soup and we both loved the California roll. it was a TAD warm because they JUST made it to order and it was so so good. The fish was crispy and my boyfriend was full from his box. I LOVED the udon. it was perfect on a cold January day and cam with a shrimp tempura and various tempura veggies. The service here is great and the food was good too! In terms of service, they are so friendly and accommodating. They made sure all our needs were met and they did it with a smile on their face. They give you salad and miso soup to start. Also, at the end of your meal, they give you fruits. The food is good, but not the best rolls I have ever had. It is just a average sushi restaurant. I ate here for the first time probably like 6 or so years ago, and recently have gone back twice. To explain the weird lapse in time, the first time was a visit to the area and now more recently I live close enough to in increase frequency. I'm a fan of some of their simpler rolls as that's what I've tried here recently as I don't remember prior visits as well. If you like Sushi Jin on Fenton you'll like this place just as much! I'm sorry to have to write this review, especially about a neighborhood restaurant. But I feel responsible to share an unfortunate incident about 1.5 weeks ago with food I took home as leftovers (bulgogi on rice). I should mention that I already had hairline fractures in two of my molars, and I needed to get crowns before something happened. Before I was able to get crowns, there was a small rock or stone in the bulgogi leftovers and I chomped down hard on it, causing one of those molars to split vertically (yes it hurt!). It was too damaged for a crown or even a root canal; today I had to have the tooth extracted and a rod placed in my jaw bone, preparing for an implant in a few months. This is setting me back about $2700. Obviously, I cannot hold the restaurant responsible for breaking my tooth; I already had fractures and I was eating the leftovers at home. But I just want the restaurant to know that there was a small rock in their food and they need to be more careful, lest this happen to someone else. read more

YES. Yes, yes, yes, yes, Y-E-S, YES! Excellent sushi. I don't know why it took me so long to find Ikko, but now that I have, there's no turning back. Ever. So fresh, so smooth, so flavorful, so exceptionally delightful. Their rolls and nigiri are beautiful and perfectly portioned. The ingredients of each roll are thoughtfully and expertly combined. Nothing is out of balance, nothing is off. It's just perfectly perfect sushi. Favorites include the blair roll, the yellowtail lover roll, and the white fish roll--it's honestly some of the freshest tuna and white fish I've had in this area. Their nigiri, as I mentioned, is also beautiful and I am partial to their salmon. Take my advice, and get your sushi from Ikko. You'll be so very glad that you did. read more

HOW LUCKY AM I TO RESIDE ON THE SAME STREET AS IKKO!!! I recently moved to Downtown Silver Spring and this gem is walkable. They are fresh, prompt and hospitable. Get the Ikko Style roll if you like spicy tuna- it's one of their specialty rolls. I also love the Dragon roll and the pork dumplings. I think part of it is the convenience, but this place has a new biggest fan. also, sit outside and watch the "wave pool" next door at NOAA. read more
