I really enjoyed my meal at Gio's! The service is super fast, at least when you order chicken with sides. It is basically Chipotle style, like many of the other Peruvian chicken joints these days. While the white meat chicken wasn't the most juicy, it was very tender and I enjoyed the texture. It was also seasoned very boldly, I was a big fan of that. Review is based on one visit. Tried Gino's Saxon this evening and was blown away at the quality and depth of flavor in the nacatamals. Masa was tender. Filling with pork was flavorful! Tamal was very carefully wrapped in parchment and banana leaf. Best of all, it was served with bread and coffee, which I'm told is the traditional way! Platanos maduros with fried cheese were perfectly cooked and accompanied with a sour and spicy sauce (I'll have to get the name of the condiment as I want more!!). Not quite the fritanga taste I'm used to as a Miami-raised Nicaraguan, this is closer to a 2.5 than a 3. I'm used to a different flavor profile, so I'd say this is "different" and not bad. Total hidden gem! We were in the area getting other takeout when I spotted this place. We gave it a try and I was so glad we did! OK so, I have been raving about this place ever since I moved to the area and I've even shared it with a few coworkers and close friends and I'm here today updating this review because they have lost this customer FOREVER! First, let me say this incident happened a few months ago and I did not want to do this update, but it keeps resurfacing and I feel compelled to inform the public about what they are dealing with when they spend their money and consume food from this place. Since they cut back on the ingredients in their sauces, I've been ordering extra sauce, especially when I ordered a whole chicken and other items . On this particular day, I paid for (three extra green sauce and three extra yellow sauce), and remembered that they did not deliver enough sauce the last time although I had paid for it, so I decided to call and reinforce my point about my sauce before my food was delivered. The young lady who answered the phone did not speak English. She tried, and then handed the phone over to someone else while I was speaking with her. When this person came on the line, I overheard her as she was handing the phone over to this lady, while calling me loco. When I ask this woman, "did she just call me crazy"? She brushed over my question and basically ignored it. Personally, I find this very offensive and comments like this could've been interpreted numerous negative ways. I am a customer and you don't know me to refer to me as "loco" I have paid you in the past for extra sauce and I never received them, and I never bothered to make a fuss about them, but this particular day when I wanted to make sure I was not ripped off again over some petty sauce I was called crazy. So to end this, y"all don't need this "crazy" woman's money. And good luck with your business and I hope you continue to receive only Spanish-speaking customers who you can treat fairly and give them all of the sauces for free while the rest of your customers have to pay for them. I mean my goodness we can make the sauces at home, but why should we when we are spending our money on the food? The sauce comes with the food. I used to eat here often but it's no longer very good. In my recent visit, I got 1/2 chicken with sides. 1 portion of the chicken was extremely dry. I suspect it to be leftover from the previous day. The other piece was ok neither had great flavor. They're also more expensive than other places with better chicken. El Pollo Rico in Wheaton is some of the best Peruvian chicken around and Gio's is more expensive. Not sure how that's possible. Last time my fries were not all the way cooked, but I've eaten here dozens of times and it's never happened before. I like that you can get plantains as a side instead of having to pay extra. Came by this local place for lunch carry out. The staff are so friendly!! We picked up a whole chicken all white meat. They chopped in more pieces so my grandkids would have smaller portions. The chicken is soo good here. The skin, which I don't usually eat, was full of flavor. The meats tender and moist. The green sauce is spicy and very good. The white sauce had a little too much mustard. The sides we got, chicken rice, white rice, and a mix of yucca and fries. The yucca was really good. First time at Gio's chicken and the customer service wasn't bad even tho I was being difficult (couldn't make up my mind). The portion size for the sides were bigger than avg places and the chicken seasoning was different from every other Peruvian spot. They gave a good amount of sauce not like other places that just give you two. Next time I'll try the beans I wanted to get them today but I was confused because I wanted to get rice and beans mixed together but didn't know if that would count as both my sides so I just said screw it. The staff was nice and could of figured it out with me but I was already being difficult and didn't want to be "that guy" p.s I got pics if you have questions ask but I'll do a part 2 review when I go again Part 2 I finally went again and got the rice and beans as one of my three sides. Overall the sides are alway a bless, the chicken has a different flavor but it's still good. Most of all the strong flavor is in the skin so just don't eat it and you'll be fine. Parking lot was packed but there is more parking on the right side of the store and you can even exit though the back. You come out next to the flower shop on the Main Street cause it is a hassle leaving that lot. If you want to save a little more go on Groupon ... My go-to is ordering the family whole chicken special with 3 sides: fried yucca, rice, and salad. It's always for delivery and, because I'm single and generally dislike cooking meat- this basically sets me up for several quick meals during the week. Totally worth it. I tried this blind and had no idea what to expect. What an incredible surprise. They make fabulous, well-seasoned and delicious food. I had the Lomo Saltado and it was the best I've had in years. Also got the Peruvian Chicken and it was delicious - the best in Montgomery County. There is a Peruvian Chicken half a mile from my house, and I will happily drive down here for their vastly superior chicken, moist, tender, and great spices! This is my new go-to place.
