birria pupusa + pupusa de pollo con jalapeño - A Salvadoran dish featuring two pupusas, a side salad with shredded cabbage and carrots, and a small bowl of sauce with chopped onions and green peppers.
Kiana B.

I came here again 2 years after my first impression, which was fire pupusas and mid Honduran food. I intentionally did not order pollo con tajadas this time, and instead found the baleadas con carne to have everything I needed it to have. The pupusas were amazing, of course, as they were almost 2 years ago. This place is still a great hidden gem, with bachata playing low in the background and workers favoring spanish (though they are bilingual), but definitely adds to the ambience if you can appreciate the spanish language.

6. Yuca con Chicharron - A large square plate holds fried pork pieces, yuca fritters, and two dipping sauces, served on a bed of lettuce with a lime wedge, in a restaurant setting.

When I went here, my small party of three ordered a lot to get a taste of the menu: yuca frita con chicharrón, pupusas, baleadas, tamales de elote, horchata, and some jugos. The service was good, the restaurant was clean, but the food tasted like the oil could have been fresher, and there seemed to be a lot more excess oil than I'm used to. This was especially evident in the yuca frita. I am giving them the benefit of the doubt because we came later in the evening, but I do think a popular dish like yuca con chicharrón should be on-point all the time.

Superb food. Authentic. Corn cakes, plantains, soft corn tortillas. I was made to feel welcome, and I had leftovers for 2 days!

10. Baleadas con Carne - A person holds a folded torta sandwich filled with meat, lettuce, and other ingredients on a white plate, with a salad and drink in the background.

Delecious great service and waiters are very polite Jugó de melón was delicious 10/10 Hospitality 10/10 And price was 10/10 If you wanna grab some authentic Central American food this is the spot

46. Plato Tipico Salvadorreno - A meal featuring rice, grilled beef, chicken wing, salad, and sauces, served with lime, on a white plate at a Salvadoran restaurant.

My husband and I visited Mi Comalito for lunch recently and had a great meal! We shared the baleadas de pollo and the Plato Tipico Salvadoreno. I had never had baleadas before, but I would describe them as kind of a large Honduran take on a taco? It was simple and delicious and HUGE. And the plato I got was great even though I think it was missing a few things (the corn tamal and the avocado). The steak, pupusa, fried plantains, beans, etc. were all great. (Seriously that pupusa - I want it again now just thinking of it!) Mi Comalito serves Mexican, Salvadoran, and Honduran cuisines, so it has something for everyone! I am definitely more familiar with Mexican and Salvadoran food so I was excited to try baleadas. The service was great. I'd happily return to try more of their dishes! A great place for Mexican, Salvadoran, or Honduran - whether you already know and love those cuisines or whether you're looking to explore!

Chorizo tacos - I ate 1

First time coming here after living in station north for 4 years. What was I thinking! This place is really good and tastes super authentic. I am impressed and will definitely be back... in this pic I already ate one taco on the road because it smelled so good and I was starving.

This is the sorry side of salsa that this woman wanted to charge me $2 for - A hand holds a small plastic container of red sauce above a partially unwrapped takeout meal with vegetables on a kitchen countertop.

The Machete Barria is so good! Small place. Better for take out than sit down but there is a bar upstairs

Staff friendly, food tastes great! Yummy Baleadas. Price was also reasonable. The food went down too fast that I have no pics! Next time.

The food is delicious and I love the atmosphere. It's the only Salvadoran place I've found outside of highlandtown.

La Campesina Restaurant - Krispy chicken quesadilla

La Campesina Restaurant

The meat options were also greatly appreciated by my friends who joined me at the restaurant. Ask for the in-house spicy salsa if you like a kick of spice. The prices are very reasonable for the generous portion sizes. The service is friendly, and the food arrived in a decent amount of time even when the restaurant was busy. Definitely recommend visiting this restaurant when you're in the area.

I wasn't feeling up to the big chains and places I wanted to try seemed to close early. Luckily this place was open and I had been wanting to try it for a while. Definitely it let a hidden gem! There are some parking spots right in front, although not many. There is a decent amount of seating, but it would be tight if you had a large party. My partner did note that the bathrooms weren't that great. You immediately get served complementary chips and salsa. They were pretty basic, but not bad. We ordered the following: + Papusas (Pork and Cheese & Loroco and Cheese) - Decent, although I prefer the Loroco (an edible flower bud). + Pollo à la Primavera (chicken dish) - Yummy, especially the sauce which mixes well with their hot/spicy sauce too! I could do without the salad dressing. + Camarones con Calabeza (shrimp dish) - Same as above! Note they leave the tails on. + Natural Juices (Mango and Maranon) - So refreshing! I loved the Maranon (cashew apple) was a wonderful burst of tropical sweetness with a subtle nutty taste. I appreciate that for the pupusas they had the foresight to provide my partner and I two plates so we could sphere the papusas. The portion sizes of the entrees were great for the price. It did take a while for the staff to swing by so that we could get boxes and the check. Note that credit cards and mobile pay are accepted. I definitely wouldn't mind coming back again to try more items on their menu.
