What can I say about this place that hasn't been said already? The food here is authentic, delicious, filling, and is well-made with wholesome ingredients. It's an amazing mix of food that fills you up but you are excited to eat more later as left overs. Mi Comalito crafts food that you savor until the last bite. I was in the mood for Mexican food and SY found this restaurant as we were driving back from the Wine and Food Festival. I wanted some comfort food to absorb all the alcohol in my system :) So very happy we stopped here and will definitely be back. This is a humble looking restaurant. Nothing at all fancy in the decor and furniture but the food and the service were excellent. Our waitress was friendly, helpful and very efficient, with a sense of humor. We ordered the guacamole with chips; I need to elaborate here. The guacamole was more dense than most and although they charmingly kept mum as to the secret ingredient we guessed that it might have been the famous Latin american white cheese but cannot confirm that. Whatever the secret it was sooo gooood. The chips were freshly made and came piping hot to the table. Again, sooo goood. One minor note: the salsa could be improved. For the main, we ordered tacos of chicken and of beef, which were tasty, especially with the handmade tortilla. Mi Comalito definitely hit the spot for me. Serving a variety of traditional dishes from El Salvador and Honduras, this place reminded me of home. The pupusas revueltas were great. Good amount of cheese and filling, not too doughy but just right. Encurtido could have use more acidity to it but it wasn't bad. Mariscada was really good as well. Soup was flavorful. The Mariscada came with shrimp, scallops, squid, salmon, langostino and more. None were rubbery and overcooked but rather cooked perfectly. But the selling point is the food hands down I was quite pleased. We started with a shrimp quesadilla and it was Delish, and it came out pretty quickly. For a late lunch I had the Carne asada with Camarones (surf & turf) The flavor was great, the steak was tender and juicy, and the shrimp came in a lite tomato base sauce alongside rice, salad, and refried beans. I was full and satisfied. The only reason I am giving this place a 4 star is because I think it would be perfect with a full bar....start serving margaritas and you will not have a empty seat in the place!!! First time trying Honduran/Salvadoran food and I LIKED IT! Can't really judge whether they are authentic based on my limited experience, but it is always a good sign when some of the waitress can't speak English very well. It is a small restaurant but tidy and clean (there is a clear family-friendly atmosphere). They have a High School Musical poster on the bathroom wall, which I found pretty cute and interesting. We order tons of food and they all exceeded my expectations! My favorites were the fried plantains and pupusas (as always). We also got a pork plater and seafood soup, which were both pretty amazing as well (freshly prepared and well-seasoned, not mushy or rubbery). The food was inexpensive given its quality. However, the neighborhood is a little sketchy, so maybe visit there during the day? And do not park your car too out of your way. Overall, I would recommend this place. read more

This place was BOMB DOT COM. Only thing I'd say is their Horchata is a little too cinnamoniney. It's okay, o think I just personally have a preference for El Salvadoran Horchata. Total dive place...but awesome food! We came here before a play at Hippodrome. It's about a mile from the harbor. I was surprised at how amazing the food was. Pros: +Awesome food. The seafood, steaks and pupusas* were excellent (*they're probably from El Salvador/Central America). All the dishes were super savory and prepared perfectly. +Fast service (I recommend carry-out) Cons: -The neighborhood is a little sketchy but so long as you come during the day or don't have to park too far, you should be fine. -Some of the waitresses don't speak fluent English but they are really nice. The bean and cheese pupusas here are SO good. I always get mine with a side of guac, and I'm never disappointed.

This place is pretty cozy but large enough for a small group. Remember not to go too late - they will sometimes close early if there aren't a lot of people. My friend and I decided to split a few dishes. We ordered the pupusas loroco (vine flowers with cheese), yuca con chicharron, and tamales con pollo. The pupusas loroco were awesome. They were warm and oozing of cheese when you opened them up. I ate up the slaw - always a fan of the slaw with the tang and crushed tomatoes. The yuca and pork were freshly fried and came with homemade aioli. It was a little too heavy for me, but I can see how people could enjoy it. The tamales con pollo was mushier than I would have liked, but it had great flavor - the masa was prepared in chicken broth so it made the whole tamale flavorful. Overall, a good addition to the neighborhood. I'll be back for the pupusas. read more

My son and I wandered to Mi Comalito, since he had a hankering for a burrito (which he pretty much always has the hankering for). The place was pretty empty and much smaller than I expected. My son got a chicken burrito and some papusas. The papusas were pretty average (if a restaurant manages to screw up a papusa, they should just shut down. His burrito was the kind that was smothered and had to be eaten with a fork and knife. I ordered the Plato Tipico Salvadoreno with the intent to give half to the teen to make sure he had enough to eat. Well, we ended up bring half of it home because his burrito was big enough for him to be STUFFED, which is impressive in it's own right. The food was really good, and we took the sign that it took forever to come out as they were actually cooking it and not reheating it. I could pass on the salsa though. read more

Since I live directly around the corner from here, its nothing for me to grab a platter. The carne asada is to die for. For $13.95, you get a generous portion of flank steak that is cooked to perfection, rice, black beans and a fresh garden salad. There tacos and quesadillas are delicious as well. You really cant go wrong. They also serve American fare as well, which is really good. I was surprised that they can make a mean cheesteak too, better than any carry out believe it or not. Mi Comalito is a a South American spot that seems to serve, El-Salvadorian, Mexican, American food based on their extensive menu. Service is nice and seems to be family owned. I went there back to back and ordered fish tacos the first go-around. It was fine, nothing special. A second visit i ordered a pork chop dish. Now, that was delicious. I think i will stick with their marinated meat dishes; bistek and pork moving forward. read more

I was tired from standing on my feet for over 8 hours and smelled delicious meats cooking. They greeted me and served me water, I was on work time and could not indulge in alcohol. The portions were huge, and I love fried plantains, my husband is a chef so they were perfect. The steak was thin and sinewy but left a good juice on the rice with carrots, peas, and a grainy peas (my husband has a better term for this). The platter was huge, more than 3 people could devour. I recall working at BCDSS and enjoying a wonderful Indian restaurant there, but it was grimy and dirty. They improved the cleanliness of this location and inserted a bathroom and pocket doors. I really loved the fried corn menu item (I am Czech so I am not familiar with this food). They greeted me with not too spicy salsa and home deep fried corn chips. read more

This is a place to wear your fat pants because you'll end up eating even after you're full. It's just that good. You'll be hard pressed to find a better tamale, even after you've backpacked around Latin America. I've always been "meh" about tamales because they tend to be dry, flavorless, and all filler, no meat. The ones at Mi Comalito are bursting with flavor. The corn meal sings of sweet corn and is plump, juicy and glistening from the gristle of the chicken slowly cooking inside it. There's a generous slab o' chicken in the middle, plus some potato and peas. That's two more ingredients than most chicken tamales I've seen. The pupusa is generously sized. The loroco pupusa (vegetable pupusa) was light on the veggies. It was more of an herb sprinkled in there. But, it's tasty! It came with a refreshing cabbage salad that was just the right level of spicy. The atmosphere feels like a little corner of utopia, in that all ages and races were gathered there, hunkered over their comfort food, having discovered this place way before me. read more

This place is so so so good. I've ordered from here three days in a row, I'm obsessed! I've had virtually all of the papusas which are excellent and reheat well for breakfast the next day too. The yucca con chicharron is amazing; the pork is succulent and the sauces are perfect. It's always well packaged to retain heat and the portions are amazing for their price. So, this place is pretty good considering the other closest Mexican place is holy frijoles (ick). The meat plates are really well marinaded and they use top quality beef and chicken. However, the rice and beans are probably instant (not homemade) and the "salsa" literally comes from a can of tomato soup. I'm Mexican American and grew up in a border town. I grew up eating and cooking this kind of food. so while the carne is fantastic the rest is pretty inauthentic. I got the chicken enchiladas and they were dry, filled with instant beans and rice (lol wut) and didn't have either red or green sauce. Only like three pieces of tomatoes. The best enchiladas in bmore are from cinco de mayo. Let's just say the chain on the border is more authentic, although granted they use hatch green chilies at said chain which are amazing. Service was slow. They also overcharged us by a few bucks. Also, super pricey relative to the food. I'll probably come back though because there really aren't any good Latino restaurants round here. read more

This is such a great hidden spot! This place is pretty authentic! Little tiny restaurant, not too much seating and definitely wouldn't seat larger parties. I've tried the Chicken Burrito (almost San Diego style with vegetables on top, cheese and beans!). Very interesting. I tried the #22 - Palto mixto mi comalito. It has grilled steak, chicken and shipr along with rice, beans and a little salad. Really interesting flavor. The shrimp was delicious! I also tried the Steak tacos. I think that the chicken burrito was the best option -- the steak meat was just okay. Chicken is really their biggest selling point! I would definitely recommend the Plato -- lots and lots of food and they give you tortillas too! read more

We stumbled upon this place in search of great Mexican. The staff is welcoming and the atmosphere is relaxed and complemented by traditional music. The warm chips and salsa was delicious and we're devoured in seconds. Now for the main course, WOW! It was so good I hardly stopped for air. I got the enchiladas, 2 chicken, 1beef. My boyfriend said he knew it was good because I was so quiet. Come ready to eat because you won't be able to stop. This place was mad awesome and I will go out of my way to come back again.
