Love this place. It is not as internet famous as its neighbors, but is a delightful spot. The melon agua fresca was so refreshing, I could drink it every day. The al pastor tacos and salsas were delicious. This is a great place to stop at during a stroll around Fells Point. read more

We love El Taquito! Their food is super authentic and everything they serve is delicious. Their tortas are HUGE and a great deal for the price. Their salsas are great and proper spicy. They also serve house-made tepache which we never skip on. On weekends, they have carnitas and barbacoa which they cook in batch right by the main entrance to the restaurant. If you go on a weekend, you have to try those tacos, which also come with a side of consommé for extra flavor. read more

Came in here on a very cold day and were the only ones in the restaurant. Our server was very sweet and we started with complimentary chips and 3 salsas. I ordered the carne asada tacos as well as carne asada burrito. The burrito was good, rice and beans were flavorful. The carne asada itself however was not the highest quality meat and was a little rubbery. The guacamole appeared and tasted to be just mashed avocados (no salt, cilantro, lime juice etc). Have been here a few times now and can say that this is a solid place for a quick Mexican food fix! - has all the staples (sauces, complimentary refillable chips with salsa for your table, large pitchers of horchata, etc) as well as all the menu staples - yummy food at great price point. For example, a burrito is $7! - friendly neighborhood vibe here (once when the line was long/they were busy, one of their staff even came out and gave the people waiting samples of their michelada) - good service whether small or large table (they were super accommodating when we had a large birthday table there once) - fun, inspired decor complete with two TVs playing Latin shows/music. Clean and well maintained interior. Coming from California, there are times when I miss Mexican food and I am very glad I have this place within walking distance! We were provided chips and three different kinds of salsa (salsa rojo, verde, & pico de gallo) as we settled into our table for dinner. My partner & I ordered three tacos each and we split a horchata (literally a pitcher size provided). My goodness! The meats of everything we ordered is what I know what amazing Mexican food to be -- flavorful, homemade feel & great texture of meat. Yes I admit the chips we had were unevenly cooked, some chips obviously older & just refried, but who really judges the entire place off chips?! (A gringo who literally can't handle the heat of Mexican salsas! Lol). Back to the tacos! The corn tortillas are made in house (handmade & pressed to order) and a generous portion of your protein, with a side of nopales, grilled scallion, limes, and radishes. Thank goodness we ordered a horchata to give us some relief in between. Horchata is a very sweet rice milk drink with plenty of sugar and a cinnamon stick. I got the bow, I had couple of bites and then I found something suspicious like meat. I asked what is it, and I found and confirmed with their cashier that it was chorizo (pork meat)). I understand mistakes can happen, but the cashier confirmed twice! They were nice enough to offer me something vegetarian, so I decided to not take any chance and ordered cheese quesadilla (refer picture), I mean it is very difficult to mess up cheese quesadilla. I had the WORST cheese quesadilla, you can see in the picture that it was kind of soggy and not sure what kind of cheese they had. It was not even properly cooked. My boyfriend has lived a block away from this restaurant for over a year, and this was our first time going here. And regrettably we should have come much sooner. We ordered: the chicken enchilada, chicken tostada, and an al pastor burrito. The enchilada came with rice & beans. All portions were great, especially for the price. Everything tasted fresh and it was prepared so quickly! Packaging was neat and provided extra napkins, plastic ware, and sauces. The service was friendly and attentive. I told everyoneee about this place after I ate there. It's a family-owned and run restaurant and the owners were so sweet! The prices are also too good to be true... WWednesday: tacos are $1. Whaaaaat Horchata was $3 and it came in a JUG. So big that I snapped it! And it was tasty They also had this fermented alcoholic drink (kinda like a Mexican kombucha but with pineapple). If you like lucas or those mango lollipops with the spicy powder on top, you will LOVE this. I forgot what it's called but it's in the barrels near the cashier. For Baltimore, El Taquito Mexicano is legit and quite authentic. It's got pretty much everything you'd expect -- tacos, sopes, tostadas, tortas, quesadillas. The complementary chips and dips are great, the horchata is sweet, the tortas are huge, and a good variety of meat is offered here. Prices are reasonable, seating is plentiful, service is decent, and split checks are a no no. read more

Best Horchata ever. The horchata I had been searching for all my life. Finally, i found the holy grail.

Didn't know that it was possible to have flavorless Mexican food, but El Taquito managed to do it. Not only that, but the complementary tortilla chips--which were good---were served with a trio of salsas which were hot and tasted as though they had been left in the back of the fridge too long. This is especially true of the pico de gallo, which, instead of being bright and fresh, was horribly muddled in flavor. Pozole was the most tasteless soup I ever had. Even after dousing with hot sauce and lime, I couldn't tease out flavor. They came with equally bland tostada. Dining companion got the paradilla, and the problems with flavor (or lack thereof) continued. The only good thing was the grilled nopales. We did, however, greatly enjoy the tempache, and could see buying that for take out. Service was slow and not overly friendly. Atmosphere was loud tv playing some awful 80s era car chase and women screaming show. Given all the other options for Mexican/Salvadoran food in the immediate area, I see no reason to return. read more

This place gave me a little taste of Mexico! They have a great menu of authentic Mexican food, along with good prices too. I got the chorizo burrito and it was delicious. I only ate half of it and I was completely satisfied. They also give you complimentary chips and salsa with three different kinds of salsa to choose from. I have no idea why this place is so underrated on Yelp. I haven't eaten at El Taquito since high school, which was quite some time ago (not to age myself). However, I was recently reminded of this place and needed to give it the boost it deserves on Yelp. One word: TAMALES. Get some. Get them by the dozen. Get them by the dozens and freeze them. they are THAT good. I seriously, SERIOUSLY still think about the tamales from this place, and I live out here in CA where great tamales are made at mexican joints on every other street corner. I have really only found two tamales that can rival El Taquitos. They are THAT good. Trust me, just go. I don't know what the place is like now, but back in the day, it was a little hole in the wall joint. Stop being a snob about it and realize that the best mexican food is found in the seediest of mexican joints. read more

I'm not the kind to leave reviews because I've been in the customer service industry, but tonight this place really disappointed me! If you plan to go there just don't go after 8. My husband and I decided to go eat there tonight with our two kids and we got there t 8:35 and prior to coming we checked what time they close and the website said they closed at 9:30 so we thought we would have time to eat but to my surprise we didn't. Coming in our server "Lazaro" greeted us then took our order and then right after that he started cleaning and it made us feel VERY uncomfortable. Once it hit 9, they received a call and he told them they were closed already and I was surprised because they're website says 9:30 and especially for it being a Saturday night. He started asking the other servers to help him pick up chairs as we continued to eat and then he started sweeping and mopping and just started to have an attitude because we weren't leaving and sat down on his phone telling the other server he still had to clean our area so he could leave. This just really made us feel even more rushed and uncomfortable. My family and I have met the owner, Mr. Victor and his wife and any time they are there, the service is GREAT! This is a great stop for locals and visitors to Baltimore alike. The tortillas are obviously hand-made; they're more flavorful than any tortilla I've eaten. And don't be afraid to try the rabbit - it's delicious. Think of it like a big, Mexican family reunion - large tables, traditional specialties, and food that may not be healthy but is always delicious. And judging from the foot traffic while we were there, El Taquito Mexicano is where the local Latinos eat (and that's always a good sign). You probably won't wander this direction if you're just staying on the waterfront - but you should. The Fells Point neighborhood has a lot of local flair and is less shiny and mass-produced (i.e., filled with chain restaurants) than the waterfront while being perfectly safe and fun. If for some reason El Taquito is closed, you can always wander down the street to Tortilleria Sinaloa, which is also delicious! (Tortilleria doesn't take credit cards, however, while El Taquito does.) read more

Unfortunately, my family was very disappointed with the service. The young lady that was serving us was not friendly at all! She didn't check on our table, not even once, other than to bring us our food. She didn't smile, she was down right rude! My husband works in a business where he meets and interacts with tons of people. He could have referred tons of business to the restaurant! I will give George a five star though. He wasn't our server, but he did apologize for the poor customer service. He told us to come back and request him as our server--unfortunately--we won't be back. I ordered a carnitas burrito with no cheese and avocado, however, I received a burrito with tons of cheese and avocado. The one positive thing I can say is that the carnitas was tasty. I am so thankful that I found this place. Baltimore does not have a huge Mexican food presents and and the places that they do have are just ok. Hispanic restaurants seem to cater to multiple Latin cuisines Salvadoran, Puerto Rican etc. But this place sticks to strictly authentic Mexican. They pay attention to the salsas (hot!), the tortillas and make sure they don't Americanize the dishes. They make carnitas right in the front of the restaurant in a huge wok for all too see. You can order by the lbs or by the taco. If you other by the lbs it includes a stack of tortillas, salsa and garnishes. Which is all you need! Old school and delicious! Another awesome plate they make are "sweaty tacos" which is a taco that is lightly fried and then steamed. ( only served on Fridays) I haven't seen this style of tacos since back in Juarez Mexico. A very indigene style of tacos, you must try them! I recommend the potato filled ones. Another rare item they serve is called Tapeche its a drink made from aged fermented pineapple ask them for the one that has been fermented longer. If you enjoy kombucha you will enjoy his drink. Be warned due to the fermented process it does have a little alcohol content. I haven't sampled a bad dish here. This place is definitely old style Mexican cooking. There is something here for all the foodies and the picky eaters. Happy eatings! read more

The food? ¡Qué rico! (Those tortas... that bread... all the avocado!) The drinks? ¡Qué delicioso! (THE SIZE! The flavors! Dat cinnamon, doe...) But the service? ¡Qué horror! It took an inordinate amount of time just to get seated and menus, then a shorter amount of forever to get our drinks, and a slightly longish bit of eternity to get our food. And don't get me started on the bill. We tried to split the bill at the end, but the lady "helping" us gave us the world's loudest sigh, and didn't come back with our cards for a good ten minutes after we handed them to her... only to tell us she was having a hard time trying to figure out how to divide the tab. (Um... evenly?) It was also the first time I had ever had a waitress/server straight up tell us she didn't like a bunch of things on the menu. Okay?! Thanks for telling me that what I want to order is "eugh, I don't like [x, y, or z]." That being said, I'd certainly come here again for their amazing dishes, whether my waitress liked them or not. Even the complimentary chips and salsas are incredible. That green salsa is definitely for scoville-heads. Even the guacamole has a bit of a kick to it. All spells yum and yes, please in my book! I ordered the torta with spicy pork and it did not let me down (unlike the service). The veggies were on point, and the meat was tender and flavorful. The only thing I didn't dig 100% was that stringy cheese. I could do without it. I can't complain, though. The portions are HUGE, and I enjoyed my torta yet again the next day. MmmMMmm. Speaking of huge portions: the drinks... frothy, fruity, and with just a hint o' cinnamon. It's like a Mexican milkshake on steroids. The cup looks like a mini pitcher, yet I'm sure you'll surprise yourself as we did by finishing it all, despite the gargantuan size. All in all, a great little joint. We were excited to hear about El Taquito, given the lack of Mexican restaurants in Baltimore. The strong recommendation and the good reviews seemed promising, but alas, it did not come to close to meeting expectations. The service was friendly, but the food is just, meh. The menu options go beyond the basic, standard, and expected Mexican options which is great! However, the food seems to lack freshness. I wasn't a fan of the tortillas. Too dry and too thick and completely overwhelms the taco. The totopos didn't have the right consistency (I said they were stale. My mom says they were just made poorly. Either way, not great). The salsas were spicy (yay), but had that "been sitting in the fridge for a while" taste. They used an obviously old avocado in the guac we ordered. That bite was less than pleasing. The chorizo was good but the chicken dry. The meat in the menudo was also a bit tough instead of super soft like it's supposed to be. It also had that refrigerated taste. They offer the soup daily, unlike most places where it's a weekend fare, so I imagine it's defrosted. We've been here a couple of times but won't be back. read more

The place was quiet on a late Thursday night but the clientele was all Latin American which I consider to be a good sign. I ordered carne asada, carnitas and two fish tacos. The fish tacos weren't on the menu but they were kind enough to make them for me. After about ten minutes my food came and I was pretty impressed. soft corn tortillas with plenty of meat and fresh toppings and salsas. The fish tacos feature grilled fish and a slice of avocado and were very tasty. They also threw in a few pieces of grilled nopales which you don't see very often and was a very nice touch. Updating to reflect my current thoughts... The place has shot from 4 or 5 stars, to 1. The 1 is only because their soups are good. But as a restaurant establishment, the service is abysmal. If you aren't Hispanic or speak Spanish (like me), you shouldn't try to become a regular here. They won't give you much of their time or respect. The kitchen food is the one thing they can't control, so the quality is unchanged, but the last 2 times I went to see if they had become better to their patrons, and unfortunately, not a bit. I am very disappointed. Will not return and suggest to the owners and other potential customers to be cautious. The girls that serve are quite slow and unresponsive.
