You just can't go wrong here!! Even under new management the food was still delicious. I will add this disclaimer though the salsa and the guacamole are definitely spicy so I would recommend asking for a mild version no spice. The meat was seasoned well chicken and steak and birria were the choices of the day. The service started out well but I think the waiter was a little irritated that we had to send back the guacamole due to the spice. But after that no problems. I enjoy the food pricing, absolutely great but the drink prices are a little pricey and honestly for a Margarita it just tasted more like juice. But because that wasn't my main reason to stop in, it did not make any difference. And we also had the horctata and it was the best compared from most places that we have went. The lighting is still low in there, very intimate spaces but if you want to brighten the light in any booth you may do so. read more

Do not eat here! This place is trash! My family and I were passing through and wanted to give the food a try as we heard Maryland has good, fresh seafood. The only good thing here was the fries. We all hated our food. The quesadilla had a weird after taste, the ceviche is cooked in a red sauce, not in lime, and the shrimp fajitas had absolutely no flavor. And the shrimp was not fresh at all. Do not go there please! I just ordered food from there (a ceviche tostada and a torta Cubana ) and it was the worst thing I ever had in my life! That's an insult to the Mexican culture! The lack of food options around Bayview Hospital is staggering. The nice thing about summer is that we can normally convince one of the summer interns to go get lunch for everyone. This week it was La Sirenita. I had been there once, and the food was decent. Burritos for 4 dollars can fit anyone's budget. But how would they be able to handle 12 lunch orders. The waitresses are very friendly and the place is authentic-looking. However, the food is average. While the beans aren't very tasty, the pastor meat definitely is. I would go back just for the pastor tacos. I probably wouldn't order anything else again (I've tried the quesadilla, tostada, and other tacos). I get it, I know it's hard to find decent mexican food in this area. I mean, I know this is not California or Texas, but that does not make this place a 4 or 5 stars restaurant just because of the lack of options. This is by far the worst mexican food restaurant in the whole metropolitan area. Everything we tried was poorly made, bland, just spicy and pricey for no plausible reason. I had to send back a tripe soup because it tasted like boiled, spicy tripe with no flavor at all. This is a rough latino neighborhood, still, Los Tres Reyes, just a few blocks away, offers far better food in a much smaller, almost claustrophobic mexican food joint. It gets the following accolades: - Best Mexican restaurant in Baltimore - Best tacos in Baltimore - Best La Bistec Mexicana in Baltimore - Best Huarache - Best Enchilada - Best Tostada - Best Posole I've up'd the rating from 4 to 5 stars because the restaurant has moved a few doors down to a new and larger space. The interior is clean, spacious and the wood carved furniture is impressive. As of the writing of this review, the restaurant is waiting for it's liquor license to transfer from it's old location. I can't emphasize enough how rare it is for me to give a 5-star rating. I think Haley's comet comes around more ofter. My friends and I checked this out on the heels of the recent glowing city paper review. We tried the sopas, and the three of us couldn't even manage to put them away because they were filling. The bread base was a super awesome fattening fried pastry dough. The salsa served with the chips was outrageously good, tart and fresh and spicy. It reminded me of the salsa at La Fondita (which I wish I could teleport to). I ordered mole enchiladas. The mole itself was definitely a product of chiles and chocolate and time. I could only eat one. I am normally quite the eater but those sopas really did us in. The decor in the restaurant is vibrant and fun - intricate wood archways over the booths and mermaid-emblazoned everything. If I were a child I would find this to be a magical place. Our server was good. We didn't have the experience of being ignored that other reviewers mentioned. The only complaint is that our drinks were way too expensive. Standard margaritas should not be $10. You can park for free at el oasis parking lot across the street - same owner. I plan on eating my way through the rest of the menu, although next time I'll smuggle in a flask. read more

My boyfriend and I usually enjoy the food here. My boyfriend likes the goat burritos, and I go for the chicken tostadas, both of which are simple--you won't find fancy here--but both are generally satisfying. A little bland at times, but this can be easily fixed with the several hot sauces on the table. And our check is generally under $20 for the both of us plus tip. Overall, I'm a fan of the food, though I will admit good Mexican places are hard to find around here. Customer service, however, can be rather uneven. My boyfriend and I were there last Thursday and we waited about 10 minutes to just get the menu. Another 20 minutes went by before we finally flagged down the only waitress to ask if we could make our order. She took our order without writing anything down. We ended up waiting roughly an hour and a half before walking out. Two parties after us were served, had eaten, and left, but we didn't even get the water we asked for. This place gave me nasty food-borne illness. I got chicken, beef, and cecina tacos. The tacos tasted a little bit off, as though the meat was sitting around from the weekend (I ate here for Monday lunch), but I just doused them in sauce and ate them anyways. We order the tacos el pastor every time and you can't beat the price and taste! Always fresh and delicious. Fantastic food, beyond-terrible service. I decided to try La Sirenita on my walk home from the store, as I had been craving some Mexican food for a while. The food itself was amazing -- spicy salsa, well-seasoned beef enchiladas, fantastic rice and beans. The service, on the other hand, was beyond awful. I entered the restaurant at 5 p.m. After standing for nearly five minutes before being told to sit anywhere I liked (which wasn't difficult, as there was only one other occupied table in the restaurant). After several more minutes, a waitress finally came over to me and asked for my order, which I gave. Five minutes later, I received a small glass of water. Twenty minutes later, my food came out (from another server); I had to remind the staff that I had asked for chips and salsa. Those hadn't arrived, however, because my original waitress spent those twenty minutes outside the restaurant, making out with and schmoozing with someone whom I would presume to be her boyfriend. The restaurant began to fill up throughout my time there, and other guests went similarly unattended. After my plates were cleared, I waited with an empty table for thirty minutes before I finally flagged down a server and asked for my bill (which then took another ten minutes to arrive). So, after entering at 5 p.m., with one other occupied table, I finally left at about 7 p.m. Go for the food, but do not expect anything resembling quality service. My wife an I had dinner there, as we have in the past. We enjoyed the food portion of the dinner as usual, but we ordered margaritas, expecting a reasonable sized drink. The waitress came out with two huge margaritas that ended up being $16 dollars each. They were more than the dinner, by far. We didn't ask for the large, and we had no idea they would be so much. 1- Most importantly the food was authentic Mexican. Not Tex-mex. But the real deal. It was delicious. 2- The service was fast for us, but there was only one other table, so we couldn't determine the speed of the food. 3- We were given no cutlery and when I asked for it, they gave me a little funny attitude, look at the table, look at the table!! But there was nothing at the table. Once we got the cutlery she only gave 2 sets for 3 people. 4- The waitress was on her mobile phone, while serving us. 5- The music was way to loud, and after I asked the waitress turned it down. 6- The price of the food was fair to cheap. Lets see where to start, when i first came in, i assumed it was a quiet mexican restaurant which is perfectly fine. However when my boyfriend and i sat down, this is when my visit started to go downhil. My boyfriend is mexican, however i am not. So we sat down, needless to say the server greeted my bf but turned her back to me, strike one. She only bought out two menus and one utensil set which i thought was kind of crazy considering there are two people. She took the orders but never once asked me or directed any questions to me. I ordered the tamales...although they were chicken,they were spicy and dry. She never once sat the plate in front of me. She sat the plate in front of my bf and brought me out a plastic fork. This lady is extremely rude. I watched other families get treated as if they were carte blanche, however i guess you get what you pay for. Best Tacos in Baltimore; maybe best I have had anywhere. Mexican style with homemade corn tortillas, radishes and limes on the side. I have tried all the flavors, including goat, steak, tripe, but none can live up to the Al Pastor. A well marinated pork that is the best. Sopes and soups are great too. But at only $2 per taco, get three, a couple of Tecates and call it a night. Service ranges from friendly to awkward, but never bad per se. read more

Food was good, decorating was really interesting and fun, but the service was abysmal. I asked for the meatless enchiladas (which was on the menu as a meatless option) and even asked for meatless in both languages (no meat and sin carne). Enchiladas has meat. That would have been fine, as mistakes happen. But when I asked for it to be replaced the waitress became hostile and said that my wife ordered meatless but not me (we both did, in fact my wife said she would *also* have the meatless enchilada). She was very brash and never apologized. It was clear she thought I was lying. Friends took me this weekend. The food was great, and our service very attentive. I tried several types of tacos - all delish as was the guac. I was really surprised at how fresh and clean the ceviche was - no fishy smell - very mild and tasty and chopped super fine. Didn't get any alchoholic beverages - so can't speak to price. Bottled cokes were a little pricey but are the cane sugar version - yeah. The food prices are very reasonable and I am taking friends back this week!
