This gorgeous restaurant sits by the water bringing you a slice of Mexico to Maryland! I truly enjoyed how vibrant the ambiance is, as it is decorated with live plants, bamboo finishes, and bright colors. The tacos are clearly made with love! Each taco is extremely fresh and I can tell that it was crafted meticulously in the kitchen. Be mindful that each taco is priced separately and you get a single taco ranging from $10.00 - 15.00. The guacamole is fresh and garnished with strawberries. Personally, I typically go for a spicier and more flavorful guac, but if you opt for a fresh and simple dish, then it certainly checks the box. The queso is thick, cheesy, and topped with peppers. I personally could appreciate a creamier queso, but I will say the dish looks and smells amazing. The oysters are rather small in size but they're extremely fresh and come topped with a jalapeño. My expectations for the drinks were a bit higher than what they delivered. Drinks tasted a bit watery and the flavor wasn't as potent (this says a lot for someone like myself who is pretty light weight). Service was fairly accommodating, however, keep in mind that they enforce a rule of having half of your party there prior to seating you. Also be mindful that their menu changes to dinner at 5:00PM, and seating at the outside bar may be closed depending on when you arrive. My favorite of all the dishes was the was the Al Pastor taco! My husband and I had dinner at Maximón a few nights ago. I'd wanted to check it out for a while, but I'm almost never in Harbor East. Maximón is the Atlas Group's Mexican/South American restaurant in the Four Seasons Building (between Azumi and Loch Bar), and it's as beautiful as you'd expect of an Atlas restaurant: high ceilings, leafy plants, pottery, gorgeous bar, great light... With Latin music playing, it fault like a beautiful and relaxing space for a Mexican meal. (They consider themselves a Mexican and South American restaurant. Other than a couple of dishes, like a more Peruvian take on a ceviche, the menu and decor read almost entirely Mexican-inspired to me). We started with a few drinks. A spicy mezcalita for him; a fruity, smoky Sotol-based cocktail for me. It's rare that we stick with a drink if ordering a second round. I almost always want to try something else or switch to wine with the meal. But both of us ordered the same for our second round - the drinks were good. Our food was less successful overall. We started with their yellowtail ceviche (with sweet potato, corn, cilantro, red onion, radish, fresno chile, and leche de tigre - the ceviche that leaved very Peruvian), which was good, but the fish was surprisingly fishy (it might have improved the dish to marinate the fish - it was more like a crudo than a ceviche as it was served, since the fish just sat on top of the leche de tigre). But it was a pretty good dish. Next up was their chile relleno appetizer (roasted poblano pepper, fresh pomegranate seeds, mozzarella, queso chihuahua, and avocado puree). This dish was pretty good (although - am I crazy or did they use a wonton wrapper rather than a flour dredge for the fried relleno?!). The relleno was simple and the cheese had a great cheese pull. The avocado puree was acidic enough to be a good accompaniment to the fried component of the dish. Next, we had two tacos. (FYI their tacos are one per order and pretty wildly expensive. The cheapest is their al pastor at $10/taco, and the most expensive is their Angus ribeye for $22/taco). We ordered one al pastor (duroc pork, pineapple, avocado salsa cruda), and one pulpo zarandeado (chile-spiced octopus, cabbage al escabeche, and salsa borracha). The filling of both tacos was pretty good, but - and this has never happened to me before - one tortilla didn't even make it one minute at our table. I picked the taco up and the tortilla just gave out - it was soggy and fell apart. I've never seen this happen with tortillas made in house and fresh. I suspect that the filling sat on the tortilla for a while before they served it (which is weird, because the food came very fast and all at once). We showed our waiter, who immediately brought us two additional tortillas so we could transfer the filling. These tortillas - when fresh and not having sat out with filling on them - were excellent. (Their menu says they source their heirloom corn for their tortillas from Oaxaca, and the flavor and texture of these replacement tacos were great.) We also ordered a side of black bean risotto (with caramelized manchego cheese), which had great flavor but very overcooked rice. Then, we shared a dessert, too - their pastel de chocolate (which they now serve with fruit to break up the rich chocolate). The dessert was okay - I wish it had much more of the guava puree, because that was so bright and delicious, but you couldn't taste it against the strong, rich flavor of the chocolate. (I also had a shot of great tequila with the dessert - their bar program really wowed me.) I absolutely have to give a shoutout to our waiter David. He was great. I started this review at three stars - the food was just inconsistent and didn't wow me - but as I was writing this paragraph on service, I knew I had to raise it to four stars. On the food alone, I might have given Maximón three stars, but at the same meal, we experienced five star service. David was friendly and helpful and was hands out the best part of our experience at Maximón. Ultimately, the food was a little underwhelming to me, but I would absolutely return to Maximón based on the quality of the drinks and that great service. Maximón has a Harbor-facing patio, which in warmer months, looks like a dream. I'd absolutely come back, request David as our waiter, and drink cocktails on the patio all evening! read more

I came here for a work dinner, and was at first blown away by the design of the space. Very tasteful and relevant style to their Mexican and South American cuisine. We got a mostly private table, towards the back of the restaurant with a half curtain framing our space against the larger room, and this contributed to an elevated experience. Drinks were great - I got the Coqueta, which had vodka, cherry, lime, almond, and ginger. They blended together into a new flavor that worked seamlessly! I'd rate that drink alone a 5/5. Chips & guacamole were also fabulous. The guacamole was flavored fantastically. It also had pomegranate seeds and grapes, which were interesting but I'm not sure if they contributed much to the flavor. Beet salad: the yellow beets were thinly sliced and wrapped around goat cheese like a sushi roll. It honestly looked better than it tasted, the flavor was just okay. Al pastor taco: I was so excited for this but then utterly disappointed when I picked up the taco and the tortilla literally fell apart. And then the pastor was bot even that flavorful. Palomilla steak: this is the most expensive item on the menu, but I would argue that this is no better than another steak at any other restaurant. This is a 10oz wagyu steak with chimichurri and some shredded veggie salad on top. The chimichurri was sooo underwhelming. The steak was a nice texture and well cooked but the seasoning was unspectacular. Two of my coworkers got a side of butter sauce typically used for lobster that the waitress recommended. They let me try it, and it saved the steak. I personally think that should be a normal sauce option for the steak, it leveled it up the dish (as butter typically does). The service was wonderful, no complaints there. But the food was not great enough to justify the crazy pricing. I guess it's fine dining, because it's just "fine." Also found out this is an atlas restaurant, and I haven't been to many of their restaurants before, but I'm seeing a trend that they have average food for steep prices. Maximon was a great experience. I was with a large party for a bachelorette and it was so fun. Being seated took quite some time, as the restaurant was dealing with booking difficulties and the drinks were very slow to be delivered, however everything else was amazing. The guacamole and queso were definitely my favorite. The blackberries in the guac are such a unique and flavorful touch, and the chips were perfectly crispy and salty. I choose not to eat at Atlas Restaurants because they are usually overpriced and underwhelming and this experience was no difference. I will admit, we had great service, the ambience was very nice and upscale (especially with the live music), and the drinks were great. The food was a letdown. The chicken tings tetela was ok but I don't think it was worth $12. Also, the roasted chicken was meh. Not horrible but I wouldn't care to eat it again. I didn't care for the risotto it came with either. And honestly, the way it was plated didn't sell it to me. The only thing I did love other than the drinks were the trio of desserts they gave us on the house for our birthdays. The churro was my favorite. My friend and I shared the Maryland crab fritters, roasted chicken, plantain fried rice, carne asada and shrimp tacos. My husband an I had an all-around great experience and will return soon! The restaurant is kinda hard to find. It is located at the bottom of some fancy hotel. Better signage would be great to make the location easier to find. The ambiance within the restaurant was amazing. When you step-in, you feel like you have been transported out of Baltimore. There is also outside seating, but it was rather a cold nice, so we didn't take advantage. There was a live band preforming during our visit. The lime served on dude gave much needed brightness but the sauce gave dimensionless HEAT without any flavor (and I like Hot and tolerate it better than most). The Cardinal Sin cocktail was great and many other drinks looked intriguing so maybe a good place to gather for drinks to start the night. It was the perfect balance between acidity, with a slight kick. I came with a group of 4 for a birthday celebration. They did have a live band playing music. At first, they sat us in the back, where it was dimly lit. We could not even see the live band. The manager did accommodate us and moved us to a better table. The live band was a bit too loud and we could not really have a conversation without asking the other to repeat themselves several times. Came here with a large group for a friend's birthday brunch and we had a lovely time. Space - The ambiance is gorgeous! It's on the first floor of the Four Seasons and matches that luxury vibe. There's a beautiful blend of stone, wood, greenery and fabrics reflecting Mexican and South American cultures and styles. It's upscale casual. Food - Everything we ate was delicious and something I would order again. The tuna tostadas were fresh with great flavor and the crab omelet had a generous amount of crab meat in it. The guacamole was a standout in our group - folks were surprised how well the strawberry complimented the saltiness of the dip. It's a great combo! Service - The service was good overall but spotty and confusing at times. We started at the bar with the bartender and then moved to a table when it was ready. Once at the table, the bartender kept coming over to have us order drinks directly with him, even though we had a waiter who understandably wanted us to order through him. At one point the bartender "forgot" to make one of the drinks because we had ordered it through our waiter. It was also a busy Sunday so there were times we were waiting for a while to order more drinks or food. Everything I tried was flavorful, fresh, and nicely balanced. Pricing is up there because after all, it is a Four Seasons hotel restaurant. I ordered a grilled shrimp taco $13 and the Maryland crab fritters appetizer $23. Shrimp was nicely grilled and the pineapple salsa and avocado crema sauce was just right - finished this in 3 bites. The crab fritters are a small, bon-bon size, so I was glad the filling was mostly crab and not filler. It came with a garnish bed of arugula greens tossed in lemon juice. My friend and I shared the Guacamole $16. It came topped with white strawberries, cotija cheese, and cilantro. I think I also tasted bits of cactus or starfruit in that mix. My friend told me that at other times she came here, the fruit in the guacamole changes (could be grapes, figs, or goose berries instead etc), depending on what's in season at the time. Maximon on a sunny day is where you go when you want to pretend you are on vacation. It was kind of a shocking find for me on a weekend trip to Baltimore. They've curated the interior and landscaped the exterior so that you feel immersed in the tropics. It was a wonderful way to get away from the hustle and bustle of the world and sip a cocktail in the sunlight. They weren't very busy at brunch which was surprising but it might be due to the prices. The food was pretty good but the portions were rather small. The yellowtail ceviche was my favorite but is not very filling. The norteno was not my favorite but my dining companion enjoyed it. We were staying at the hotel and had breakfast included so stopped in on Sunday morning at around 9:45am for breakfast. They were understaffed and having issues but we were seated at a nice table with a water view after about 15 minutes of waiting. The hostess actually took our drink and food orders, bc they were so understaffed, but did a good job and all was right when it arrived at our table. We tried many things off the menu to use our breakfast credit: avocado toast, yogurt parfait, crab omelette, side of pork sausage, side of fruit, daily muffin (blueberry) and coffee and tea. The star of the show was by far the yogurt parfait. The yogurt was SO good. Smooth and creamy with a wonderful taste - it really tasted homemade. The granola and fruit atop was perfect and I added fresh honey. The avocado toast was also delicious - great portion and size with fresh and yummy toppings. The pickled cherry tomatoes were a nice touch! Hubs did not love his crab omelette - he said it was bland and the crab didn't taste that great and it was missing cheese. The pork sausage was very good and warm and savory. Coffee and tea were mediocre. Tea was served where they bring the box to you and you steep yourself, not what I expect at a fancy hotel/restaurant. The blueberry muffin did not taste housemade and was bland. All in all - my two items were the stars and were yummy and fresh and healthy. Gorgeous water views and nice ambiance inside and decor.
