Some friends told me of if I wanted some authentic Puerto Rican food, I had to check out Owls Corner Cafe. Today was the day. The place is cute and very much a place for photo ops. The service was pretty good. Even though I can't have sugar, the pastries at the register looked delectable. I had the grilled chicken mofongo. My chicken was perfectly cooked and seasoned to perfection. The chicken broth and mofongo were very tasty however, the yellow rice and peas paired a little better. Definitely getting that next time, overall, cute spot. Would definitely recommend and go again read more

I've been wanting to try this place for a while and finally made it in. I'm sad I waited so long! My bf and I went around lunchtime on a Sunday. The space is bright and welcoming with a good amount of seating, both high top and low top tables. We were greeted and handed menus to review before ordering at the counter. The staff here were very friendly. We ordered bacalaito, arroz con gandules, habichuelas, and a tripleta sandwich. The food was brought to our table after a short wait and was nice and hot. Everything was amazing! The beans were some of the best I had, full of flavor. The rice was also delicious and perfectly cooked. The sandwich was pressed nicely with a generous amount of meat. The bacalaito was also tasty and my bf was very happy with it since it's one of his favorite foods! Overall, this is an awesome spot and I can't wait to go back! read more

The caramel macchiato was excellent! Easily one of the best I had. The bacalito was yummy! Big and crispy and full of flavor. I just wish they had drained it on paper for a little longer because it was quite greasy. The sorrullos are a little bit different than I'm used to, but they were good. They were a little bit sweet and I tasted an unexpected spice (cinnamon?) that added a nice touch. There was a little dollop of cheese in the middle as well as some chunks of corn. Different but delicious. The fried sweet plantain was so good! I almost missed it though because they stacked a ton of sauce containers in the bag on top of my order. If I didn't look in the bag closely, I would have easily missed them. The beef and cheese empanadilla was pretty good. The crab empanadia was a bit too salty. Too much Old Bay, I think. The cheese empanadilla was stuffed with lots of cheddar cheese. Never had one with cheddar cheese one before (It's usually cream cheese with some kind of fruit paste... Usually guava). It was pretty good. Not sure if I'd get it again though. The chicken empanadilla was easily my favorite. The chicken was seasoned absolutely perfectly and there was a ton of it! Highly recommend this one! The guava pastry was good, but I would have liked a little bit more guava paste in it and a little less powdered sugar on top. The dough was flaky and offered a nice crisp before yielding to the sweet and slightly tart guava paste. It was a bit of a hike up the highway to get here but I'm glad I came. Street parking is available but it was a little bit scarce. Glad I came early in the day before it got too busy. I love Puerto Rican food, and it's not something that's easily found in this area. I would only wish for a little more filling, but somehow the amount that was in there was enough The chicken empanada was SO good too!!! The dough was beautiful and cooked perfectly. Customer service is always excellent, friendly and quick to greet customers. The restaurant has a simple but very clean ambiance, decorated light but pretty. We ordered the Mofongo w chicken and husband ordered his with pernil. Everything was delicious, fresh and just made at the moment you order. We are permanent customers. I visited Owls Corner Cafe on my lunch break, it wasn't too busy and I was greeted right away. I placed my order ahead and was given a 15-20 min window of being ready. I'd recommend calling ahead if you want to grab and go, they also had plenty of seating areas inside to dine in. I ordered the pernil platter that comes with two sides, rice and beans and tostones. You get a ton of rice compared to the amount of meat you get and a few tostones on top. The pernil was tasty and I loved the beans, everything was seasoned well. I also ordered a crab and a beef empanada that was prepared fresh. I would try other things on their menu and likely dine in next time. read more

We joined them for the soft opening at the new location. I will start off by saying that I love the ambiance of the new location. It is nice ans bright and very welcoming. The new decor really adds and emphasizes the Latin culture. As soon as you walk in, the staff is smiling and inviting you in. They offered great suggestions on the menu offering. They also have an offering of cultural drinks such as soursop and passion fruit. It is a soft opening so they didn't have all the items, but that was ok because they did have a crowd and items were selling fast. Now for the food... BANGIN!!! everything came out pipping hot. The empanadas had great meat to pastry ratio. The pork chunks were seasoned and juicy. I want to give a special shouts out to Zahyrah and Michelle, they ran the front of the house effiently by executing orders and getting everyone their food as soon as possible. I miss them being a 5minute drive from my house, but i will happily take the 27min drive for this food read more

Lovely location - street parking - indoor seating and some outdoor seating. Enjoyed the live music (they also do karaoke). Staff were very welcoming. This is one of my go-to spots for empanadas! The beef empanadas are great and I also love the fish cakes they offer. I usually stop by after the gym for a snack and the service from the ladies at the register has always been very courteous and kind, and they are happy to answer any questions about the menu. The inside is kind of small and does get crowded at lunch time, but it is decorated nicely and I love the bar seating by the window. I recently stopped by and they were closed due to a license issue, but I hope they re-open again soon! read more

This review is well overdue. My first time enjoying their food was while they were still at their location in Dundalk, where I had their carne guisada (beef stew) and arroz con gandules. Easily some of the best carne guisada I've had in the area. Their move to a new location in Baltimore was awesome news, and since then, I've had the chance to enjoy even more of their food. Solid Mofongo, really good proteins (their churrasco was definitely a standout for me), and a bacalaito so good that I went to them days AFTER going to Puerto Rico and realizing I still had a bacalaito craving. Beyond the food, what seals the deal is their team, the ambiance, and the energy you feel when you walk in. They go the extra mile to make you feel "como en casa," and beyond the food, that right there makes visiting them even more worthwhile. Glad I checked this place out! Service is so friendly and helpful. There is plenty of seating available. I like the vibe and it seems like a great place to get a quick meal. The menu did feel a little limited for now, but we tried a few different things and they were all good. Our food and drinks came out quickly. I got the churrasco/grilled steak platter with a side of potato salad and macaroni salad. The steak was good but was a little dry. The sides that came with it were delicious though, with my favorite being the macaroni salad. At first, I didn't think I would get full but it actually filled me up quite a bit. My friend got the carne frita/fried pork chunks platter and enjoyed her plate as well! She also got the pina colada smoothie, which seems to come with some edible glitter. I have picked up food a couple of times at Owls Corner Cafe, had their steak, bistec enceballado, pork and chicken. I have picked up a couple of pasteries as well. I was not a fan of the chicken everything else is great. The younger girls there are nice and accomodating, i did have an arkward encounter with an older lady there who took my order on if i could order my steak a certain temp, She initially said yes, and when i specified medium, she kept on insisting they cook the steak two different ways. Next time, please make that clear smh. She was kinda rude about it. read more

Fabulous mofongo with pernil! I lived in Puerto Rico in the early 90s and the thing I missed the most when I left was the food. After that the only place I felt comfortable getting Puerto Rican food was in New York. That has changed. This place is the real deal! So delicious was the mofongo, just like I was in Puerto Rico, and the roast pork was so tender that I ate it as slowly as possible. This was my first time going to this place, but I will return as often as I can. The ambience in the restaurant is perfect. It's like being at a café in Cabo Rojo. I rarely give a not so positive review but based on the service me and my group received was just awful. The process is that you order once you come in and the seat yourself and they will bring your food to you. Many of us had to go an ask were our dishes ready and by that time they were cold. The owner's wife was rude and one of our members didn't get her food at all, and they didn't even tell her, she had to go inquire. I honestly would not recommend this place to anyone. read more

I recently visited with a group of 14, and the experience was nothing short of disappointing. The customer service was terrible. We were stunned that the owners made a point to speak with every table except ours, despite our large party. The wife also yelled and raised her voice in front of everyone. We were all stunned by her unprofessionalism. A restaurant is more than just cooking good food, it's about good customer service. The husband came to my table and brought my money back which was uncomfortable for everyone. My friend got up to speak with the wife to let her know her poor behavior was u called for. Before our visit, I informed the owners a month in advance about our large group, and even confirmed the day before. The husband actually CALLED me the night before! Yet, there was no effort to accommodate us. When I raised this issue, the owner's wife shockingly yelled at me, stating they don't take reservations. This was confusing since my only prior conversation had been with the husband, who confirmed our visit. The lack of coordination and communication was frustrating and unprofessional. To add to the poor service, they ran out of rice, a staple they should have prepared for, knowing our party's size. Half of my party was randomly offered free cake, but the other half wasn't, adding to the sense of inconsideration. When I asked the owner's daughter if more cake would be served, her rude "no" was disappointing. Such partial treatment was embarrassing for everyone involved. When they finally served the food, they never brought utensils. Each one of us, had to ask for utensils. The situation worsened with a friend's order. She requested fried chicken with yellow rice and plantains but was given a bag of food with Mofongo, macaroni salad, and plantains, minus the expected broth. No one approached to inform her about the mix-up or offer an alternative. She had to request a refund on her own and eat elsewhere. Not offering her money back upfront was another example of their lack of customer care. Overall, the poor service and lack of respect for our group were glaring. We expected a pleasant visit, but unfortunately, OWL Corner Cafe left a bad taste in everyone's mouth. I wouldn't recommend it based on this experience. My restaurant group frequents establishments all the time and we will all submit our reviews about this bad experience. I also believe in Karma and this poor treatment will come back to the tenfold. read more

What a gem! Owls Corner Cafe blew us away with the quality and flavor of their food. We tried the biftec encebollado, tripleta, and alcapurria de yuca -- and every dish was spot on. As Puerto Ricans, we can honestly say the food tastes authentic and made with love. The owner's friendliness made us feel right at home, and having parking nearby was a huge plus. If you like excellent Puerto Rican food, this is the place to go. My husband and I have been to other restaurants that claim to have authentic Puerto Rican food, and the entrees are over seasoned or too greasy. You will not have any issues in this restaurant. It is a family restaurant and everything is cooked fresh. It was newly remodeled and even the bathroom looks good. We ordered the Churrasco with rice and Chuletas CanCan (a tasty Pork Chops cut) with tostones y amarillos (sweet plantains), and let's not talk about their desserts. We ordered Flan and Guava pastries (pastelillos de guayaba). Delicious! Service was excellent and everyone is bilingual. We will come back as soon as possible.
