Went here for a late lunch on a Monday and was surprised to see that the restaurant was still half full. It was an easy order process and the food came out very quick. We ordered a salad, lomo empanada, and 1/2 chicken meal with brussels sprouts & carrots and black beans. To drink we got a chica morada. The lomo empanada had a great flavor and texture which was great to split as an opener. The 1/2 chicken was flavorful with both the light and the dark meat worth trying. The chicken was halved right in from of us with a large cleaver and the freshness was notable. The brussel sprouts were plentiful, crispy if a pinch oily, and with a slight sweetness that went well with the chicken. The beans were fine; likely the only thing we would not get again. Both the mild (white) and medium (green) sauces went very well with both the empanadas and the chicken. The chicha morada tasted of corn, cloves and cinnamon and was a nice sweet treat. I ordered this in so I didn't get to experience the store but the food was made and delivered very quickly-- it was still hot by the time it was served! Why did it take me so long to come here?! I am so sad that I've driven past here so many times and it's only a 13 min walk from my apt. The Peruvian cuisine here is excellent, reminds me of my trip from a year ago. The veggie platter is such good bang for your buck and allows you to try 4 items in a sizeable quantity. The food is fresh and hot. The veggie empanada was soooooo gooey and yummy on the inside with a nice fried crunch on the outside. The spinach and potatoes were incredible. It was my first time at the physical location - I've gotten delivery from here so many times, it's probably embarrassing but there's nothing I love more than peruvian chicken. The location is hard to get to by car - it's by the PowerPlant in inner harbor so parking is tricky. The store itself is huge - and the best part about going in person is their sauce station - when you get delivery they charge you per small container of their amazing aioli and green salsa - but not in person, they have lot of little containers and you can fill as many cups as you want for your salsa, and I'm a saucy girl. I got the half chicken (white and dark meat and their plantains and yucca. It was a dark cold day and there were a lot of people coming in and out, it's a popular spot for sure. Came by here recently and was pleasantly surprised with how good everything was! Poyoteca's on the corner near Power Plant. The inside is spacious and inviting with large booths. All the food is on display for you to choose, and it's a great way to take a peek before you order. Dozens of chickens spin on a rotisserie and smell fantastic. With so many delicious-looking options, we got a family meal (whole chicken and three large sides) as well as a Vegetarian Sampler (comes with four sides of your choosing). It was a LOT of food, and we had plenty leftovers. The chicken was well seasoned and moist. We loved every cut we tried. All the sides we tried were great, but some standouts: -fried yucca: sometimes can be too dry or not cooked enough, but these were perfectly fluffy and crispy. -plátanos: perfectly charred and sweet. I could eat these for days. -brussels sprouts and carrots: when I first saw this on the menu, I shrugged, but these were *fried* brussels sprouts with a delicious balsamic glaze and I wish I had ordered a larger size! -black beans: so delicious and well-seasoned. I was amazed how good these were! Don't forget to grab some sauces for dipping! They have a yellow mild sauce that seems mayonnaise-based, and a medium spicy salsa verde. I think both are a must. The chicken was "mid" as the kids say but this yucca was extraordinary. It's not often that a side dish outshines the main course but this yucca! Flavorful, light, crispy exterior. Soft and creamy interior, just perfection! Crunchy BUT melts-in-your-mouth! These people are wizards! The Burrito comes with your choice of chicken, brisket, vegetarian or vegan, along with long grain rice, pinto beans, pico de gallo, guacamole, sour cream all wrapped in a flour tortilla. I got the brisket and Holy cow! This thing was gooood! Succulent beef brisket, cooked to perfection, harmonizing flawlessly with Peruvian spices and flavors that dance on the palate. When I arrived at the restaurant, all the meals were hot and ready. Customer service was great! The manager helped me carry the bags to the car and was excited and grateful for our business. I came here last year and had a good time. I liked the food and I would come here again. They are located close to Shot Tower so accessible to public transit. They are also right next to the Inner Harbor so if you are downtown it's a nice place to stop in and eat at. They are a little pricey but the food was made well and the customer service was good. Parking is limited to paid parking and garages nearby, and there can be a lot of traffic downtown during the week during rush hour. Plenty of places to sit and most of the staff are Spanish speakers. The fries were soggy, the spinach was kind of mediocre (I know, who gets spinach at Poyoteca?) and the tacos were good but not mind blowing. This place is such a gem, and their family deal is an especially good deal. Redeemed my gift card today and we got so much food for just $15 (original $25). It's located right by Power Plant live. The Peruvian chicken was AMAZING. The pieces were huge, but so tender, succulent, and well-seasoned. Seriously so well-seasoned it didn't even need the sauces. Both the dark and white meat were great. For the sides, we got fried yuca, aji mac and cheese, and brussel sprouts and carrots. All 3 were fantastic. The mac and cheese was creamy and thick. The brussel sprouts/carrots were sweat and had a great roast on them. The yuca was not hot unfortunately, but after microwaving it, it was great and paired well with the 2 sauces provided. I love how they give you unlimited sauces for free. The sauces are not my favorite out of all the Peruvian chicken places I go to. The yellow mild sauce is missing something that I can't explain - it's a little too eggy perhaps? The green jalapeno sauce is refreshing and quite spicy (too much for me). I mixed the 2 sauces to see what would happen and it was a little better. They used to have more sauce options and I think I liked one of those better that they got rid of. The portions are also pretty generous for the price point and I had leftovers. I tried the chica morada because it sounded interesting. It was sweet and healthy tasting at the same time. Probably wouldn't get it again but that's just because of my personal preferences. They also have great vegetarian options besides a boring salad for anyone trying to eat more plant based!
