Love this spot for a quick bite and some amazing drinks. We made it in for happy hour, and Alma has one of the best! The drinks are delicious, and the HH food offerings are great! This time we went with the tequenos which are basically the most delicious fried cheese sticks. Both my daquiri with aged rum and my maid tai were spot on. We sat at the bar but they have tables and a large event space. Staff is very friendly and service was quick!
An upscale, earthy vibe greet patrons as they enter the large main dining space of this Venezuelan restaurant -- wall art and planters with trees provide a welcoming ambiance in which to dine. Alma Cocina strikes the perfect balance of refined and welcoming. We arrived at opening and were greeted with calm, attentive service that carried through the night. The patatas bravas-inspired starter was spot on, while the shrimp and plantains surprised me with their savory coconut twist. My favorite was the fish...paired with stewed tomatoes, pearl onions, masa spheres like little dumplings, and a crisp topping for texture. What stood out most was the level of service: they reset the table between courses, a detail I usually only see at Michelin-level restaurants. For date night or a special occasion, Alma Cocina delivers. I'll be back to try their new arepa window.
I had the best experience at Alma Cocina Latina! I went for restaurant week and it absolutely did not disappoint. A beautiful atmosphere that already elevated the dining experience and every dish, from appetizer to entree to dessert, was incredible. The cod in my dish was cooked perfectly, buttery and tender and well seasoned. I was able to try my friend's dish as well which was a vegetarian entree with mushrooms and a crispy coconut rice and that was my favorite of all the dishes that night! Thank you also to our server who was attentive and kind, and always brought our dishes out right when we needed them. Would highly highly recommend.
Wonderful experience at Alma. Beautiful restaurant with beautiful dishes and plate ware. The ambiance was divine. We got tequenos, cauliflower, and hamachi. That was the best hamachi I ever had. It was sweet, tart, and salty. The yellow tail melted in my mouth. The Arroz con Chipi-Chipi reminded me of Paella. The Bienmasabe desert was tasty. It was sponge cake, coconut ice cream and chewy jellies for texture. The punch like a lady cocktail was refreshing not too sweet. Something about having it on the rocks took it over. We were well taken by our servers.
This place is super cute for a date night. The interior is so aesthetic and the service is top notch. Our favorite dish hands down was the duck! It was soooo tender and well seasoned. It was then placed upon a savory and flavorful crispy rice bed. The mackerel dish was delicious as well. We did have a dish we ended up not liking and sending back. The waiter was extremely understanding and receptive about it and replaced it with another dish of our choice and took it off the check. They even gave us a free dessert as an apology. I appreciate how much they value customer input here!
My wife and I had an excuse to come back because my sister got my wife a gift card for her birthday. We didn't get a chance to come for her birthday but instead, came for our wedding anniversary. We've brought family here on special occasions, celebrate my wife's birthday three years ago, have come for happy hour and we've always enjoyed the food here. It was no different this time. I absolutely loved the patacón salvaje which we've never tried before. They use cornmeal to coat the calamari so it is naturally gluten-free, which my wife was able to eat. Also, their Caesar salad was delicious. The bar was set high from our first two courses. I wanted a second order of the fried calamari but we had a steak coming. We were warned about the restaurant being short staffed on Sunday, since we told the hostess that we tried making a reservation through Resy, but nothing was available until Wednesday, which the hostess found odd. Because they were short staffed, things took longer than usual, and our food came out really slowly, but that was a communication issue with the waiter. We saw tables around us who ordered after us get their food first, but we appreciated the waiter who chdecked in on us realizing it was unusual that we've been sitting for a while without any food. The food was worth the wait though. Although the steak was good, and the yucca that came with it plus the sauces, I feel like it wasn't as special or outstanding as the first two dishes. We asked for the steak to be cooked medium, but there were parts of the NY strip that looked a bit rare. We also ordered dessert, the Cacao+ and they also brought out two glasses of non-alcoholic Prosecco which were all on the house. We will definitely be back, especially finding out that Happy Hour runs all day on Sundays.
Went to Alma Cocina Latina for Valentine's Day and the total came to about $362 for two. Pricing was $130 per person, plus an optional $45 wine pairing, a mandatory 20% gratuity, and a 3% kitchen fee, so it's safe to say expectations were high. Food was mixed. The appetizer had a mustard-based sauce that was hard to enjoy, and the lobster salad second course wasn't great either. The lamb chop third course was actually very good, and dessert was solid. We also added the steak tartare with yucca, which was just okay. Service had a few issues. I made the reservation over the phone and wasn't told we'd be seated at the bar, but that's what the system had us down for. Our server also brought an appetizer we didn't order. Ambiance was generally nice and the dining area and table were clean. However, the bathroom was noticeably less clean, and it appeared there was only a single gender-neutral restroom available (for me, male), which created some inconvenience. Overall, not a terrible experience, but for a $300+ prix-fixe Valentine's meal with mandatory fees, I expected stronger consistency in both food and service.
What can I say... I had a lot of expectations as this place has been open for a while, but I was a bit disappointed. We had to get an early reservation as they were fully booked at dinner time. The food was just okay: the appetizer with the plantain and fried calamari was okay, it lacked a little bit of dimension and was too acid forward (needed more salt to balance it). The main was the "olleta" which is a vegetarian meal; it wasn't exactly memorable. It has an incredible amount of olives and capers and not enough tofu/plaintain/mushrooms. It was also very acid forward and lacked layers/balance to the flavor. Lastly, we tried two desserts: the flan (I believe it was called quesillo) and the chocolate one. I LOVED the flan with the foam on top, and the chocolate one was towards the bitter side (which was pretty good) but I wouldn't get it again. The desserts were very overpriced for the size of it. The place is well maintained and I love the plants all around. I would like to give it another try as I like to support my fellow Latinos
Yearly summer dinner date at Alma Cocina was a hit. We sat at the same table with the same waiter as last time! Food and drinks came out very quickly. The tequenos and yucca bravas were EXCELLENT. The sauces to dip them in were divine as well. The soup was a goat cheese lovers dream. The pabellon is an excellent veggie friendly dish and the steak was very flavorful for my bf. We ordered so much food and didn't finish it all (much to the staff's dismay lol they thought we didn't like it! Quite the opposite! The leftovers were DELISHHHH.) Apparently D Hop was also here from the Ravens. Excellent choice!
Stopped in for the first day of restaurant week. As we passed behind the curtain we were transported to a tropical place! We even started speaking Spanish! They offer both the regular menu and the restaurant week options. We had some appetizers to start-my friends loved the squash/tangerine soup and the fried yucca and the tequenos with the guava sauce were to die for-I would love some for breakfast! I had the shrimp en mojito with a side of rice (def needed) and it was delectable. Two of my friends ordered the cod and loved it. I tasted the sauce and it was out of this world. I did the wine pairings with the restaurant week menu and it was absolutely lovely. I also had a tiki style cocktail that was amazing. Our server did not ring a few items by mistake but made up for it by easily switching out wines I didn't enjoy from the restaurant week pairings. All in all we had an amazing experience and will definitely be back.
This is specifically for the arepa-side window. Holy Molé. Best arepas in the city, hands down. The price, the ingredients, the convenience, oh, my! Run to this place now! Also, you can take it to go or take it inside so you can order booze and enjoy the lush ambiance. Great people and food.
Another fabulous meal at Alma! I'm always so impressed that every dish has a unique delicious flavor and is presented in a new creative way. For example the calamari appetizer was a whole calamari on top of a crispy patty with lime and sauce and was delicious. The plantain appetizer was in a broth of deliciousness. The shrimp mojo and all the entrees, cocktails and desserts were all fabulous!
I had an Alma birthday gift card so it was time to use it on a Saturday night. We had a reservation at 6 but arrived earlier to enjoy the Bar and some apertivos. A good list/variety of Cocktails including Zero. Dan is the Man and not only made drink recommendations but navigated the menu for us. Lessons in Alliteration and the Mezcal y Manaca were my favorites, Guayabita and Vieja Escuela were also enjoyed. We started with the Patacon Salvaje -Calamari, avocado etc-just wanted to look at it as it was a work of art-tasty, Tequenos-their version of cheese sticks-the Guayaba sauce takes it over the top! First course-Alma Caesar salad-order it! Brussel sprouts, kimchi dressing-enough said, Caribe Atomico-have never had scallops (thinly sliced) this way before and loved it-the sauce wants to be spicy but stops at savory and the rice cracker complimented nicely-basically a Ceviche and another must try. Entrees-based on recommendation went with the Solomo Criollo (prime NY strip)-came out medium rare as ordered and Yuca with Chimichurri was a perfect side. The Duck Attolado stole the show! Exquisite spiced Duck breast over a bed of rice similar to Paella-delicious! Service was attentive and engaged-Kez took great care of us. First time in but it won't be our last! Service was amazing. Our server, Spence, was great! Very knowledgeable about the menu and always there making sure we had what we needed. Do not sleep on the cocktails! The Lessons In Alliteration will bring me back here, it is so well balanced and goes down a little too easy. The food was incredible. We started with the Tequeños and Patacón Salvaje (the best bite of the night for me!). Then came the Caribe Atómico (a little too salty) and Caribbean Surf & Turf Salpicón. For our entrees we tried the Duck Atollado (the rice in this dish was amazing and so flavorful) and the Pelao Guayanés. Everything was well prepared and so tasty. Dessert was the Vanilla Quesillo and Cacao+, would skip, dessert was our least favorite course. read more
Worst dining experience I have had in a long time! I don't even want to waste my time on them more than I have already so keeping it short: extremely small portions, very expensive (think half sliced red snapper for $53 and a lobster tail for $42), 20% automatic gratuity, and 3% automatic kitchen appreciation fee!! Food was honestly horrible and drinks were mid at best - a dive bar could make better drinks both taste and presentation wise! After spending $250 and leaving hungry, I feel like a total idiot for trusting the reviews here. What pissed me off the most was that a specific dessert was mentioned in the regular dessert menu but apparently only available if you chose the prix fixe menu. So the people ordering à la carte aren't worthy enough for you to serve that dessert? So my overall experience can be summarized as follows: insert as many cry emojis as you like! read more

We came here for Baltimore restaurant week for dinner. We were a bit early but were promptly seated nonetheless. The decor and ambiance are lovely. It's definitely classy without being too pretentious. Service was quick and attentive. On to the food. Everything for restaurant week was priced at 55 per person (20 additional for a wine pairing) for 3 courses. I got the cauliflower nikkei, the moqueca, and the suspiro de limena. Everything was absolutely delicious. The mushroom nikkei might have been my least liked of the items I got, but that's only because I tried the tequenos my boyfriend got and instantly had a preference for that instead. The Moqueca was perfect, perfectly umami. I just wish there was a bit more rice with it. The dessert was also really good, with a light kick of acidity from the yuzu. My only complaint honestly was the portion sizing for the price. I was still hungry after we were done. With 2 sodas and tips, our total for two people was about 146. Fairly expensive. I'd say definitely a place for a special occasion kind of meal. read more
What a treat! First, the restaurant is beautiful. Seating is spacious and staff is friendly. Parking is right across at the Charles theater lot so no issues with city parking. We started off with two drinks and later a glass or white wine our server recommended. Honestly you can't go wrong with any of the drinks. I got the Sandia and it was delicious. We ordered a few things from the entire menu and it was all delicious save for a few exceptions. Mushroom Ceviche: fresh, delicious, tangy. Amazing. Such an exquisite take on ceviche and a fun way to prepare muchrooms. Mushroom mole: fantastic. The mushrooms take on a scallop texture, the mole sauce is savory and thick and the pumpkin seeds add a crunch and nutty flavor. Cauliflower: similar to a gochujang sauce but even better. Could be spicier but honestly perfect as is. Shrimp and for stew: I'm not sure how this is a stew as it was more or less seafood served in a sauce. The fish and shrimp were perfectly prepared but the sauce was on the salty side. Needed a wedge of lemon or some other acid. Still enjoyable though. Coconut dessert: the weakest item we tried. The foam was a weird texture and there was too much of it. The vanilla sauce was overpowering with rum flavor. The jelly and croutons and ice cream and cake under all that foam was nice but the other items made the dessert not that enjoyable. I would definitely want to try the other desserts! Overall such a wonderful meal! I would love to return and try the other dishes! read more
Our first food adventure in Baltimore and we could not have asked for more. The food was incredible, the service was top-notch, and the atmosphere was perfect. We arrived at 7pm for our reservation and were promptly seated. The room has plants everywhere and the music isn't too loud, so you can actually have conversations at the table. We decided to go vegetarian for this meal and ordered pretty much every vegetarian option on the menu except the tomato & peach salad. We were pleasantly surprised and delighted when the chef sent us the tomato & peach salad to complete the full vegetarian menu at the restaurant. I'm glad they did because that might have been our favorite dish. The combination of sauces, flavors, and textures was excellent. I'm not sure whether the cauliflower and tofu dish was prettier or tastier, because it scored highly on both fronts. We had two mushroom dishes and they could not have been more different. The ceviche really felt like seafood and the mole dish was well balanced and showed me another way to prepare mushrooms. Above all the service was excellent. Every staff member was friendly, our leftovers were boxed and labeled for us, and we received fresh dishes and silverware for each course. I was once again pleasantly surprised when we received the check. You receive superior quality for the price you pay at this establishment. Cannot wait to return and also can't wait to try their new arepa place when it opens soon. read more

I'll be 100% - I had my mouth ready for the Cauliflower Appetizer, but when I found out it wasn't being served anymore, I searched for the next closest thing, and was pleasantly surprised. For my first time having romanesco broccoli (tastes like a cross between traditional broccoli and cauliflower), I loved it! The crunchy consistency definitely made for the illusion of feeling full from a vegetable, something that would be a great go-to for Vegans/Vegetarians. The grilled oysters were BEYOND - give me 14 of them, seriously. Put these on the Happy Hour/Cocktail in droves of Half Dozens and I'm sold. I WILL be back. The ambiance is so light and vibe-y, it sells Spring/Summer on a tropical island, so I'm really looking forward to visiting when Baltimore's late evenings are warm and breezy. read more

I loved my experience! The restaurant is beautiful, lots of plants and it feels as if you are in a totally different city. Servers and hosts are warm and inviting. I started with the roasted oysters, which were good, although I was not a huge fan of the beurre blanc sauce, it was a bit too creamy for me. I also tried the cauliflower which was lightly fried with tofu in a sweet sauce. I preferred this starter but the sauce did get overwhelming. For my first course, I had the avocado mixed salad, which was so delightful. I loved the crunch from the crispy onion and the dressing was not overpowering. The salad went nicely with a paella inspired dish with mussels. The rice was accented with a savory pumpkin purée and fresh lime. I found the mussels to be a little fishy, but the rice was delectable. For dessert I had a chocolate tuile with sponge cake and chocolate sorbet. The flavors were rich but the dishes were not heavy, there was a lightness that I appreciated and I think it's due to the quality of the ingredients and preparation. Food, service, and ambience were all excellent from the beginning of the meal to the end! Came here with a group and ordered everything to be shared family style, which I highly recommend. We sampled the tequeños, Iberian croquette, crudo, and steak tartar for appetizer. All were really yummy but the crudo and steak tartar were by far my favorite! For entree we ordered the duck, fried branzino, and eggplant. Every dish was excellent and beautifully presented but the fried branzino really blew me away! Perfectly cooked and paired with a citrus, ginger sauce that really took the dish to another level. Our server Mauricio was amazing and took very good care of our party, despite the dinner rush. Something has changed at Alma. Notably Chef David Zamudio is suing the owners. The entire menu is different from before. We got two apps to start this time octopus al olivo from their 1st course menu and it was bad at first bite but the more I ate it the better I liked it. The fried chicken was too breaded but I liked the sauce. The entree of small Cornish hen chicken and steak were pedestrian. The cook of the meat was great but somehow it tasted like tough nothing? I was so disappointed in the apps and entree but the carajillo and dessert of coconut cake was delightful. This is now become a place for drinks and dessert only. I hope they bounce back because I used to love this place. The staff was so friendly and Alma is the prettiest at sunset when the interior is all lit up with the flow of the setting sun. read more
Vibes: Lots of beautiful (and real) plants. Tables are a little close to each other so waiter had to really squeeze in when addressing either our table or one next to us. Cocktails: Tried 6 different ones amongst our group, they were all good. We popped in here for a quick cocktail and snack while we were at the gallery around the corner. The space is absolutely gorgeous - it has an open floor plan and an entire wall of windows. I got the cocktail of the day, which came with a tree of rosemary anchored in the glass by tiny clothespins. A lot of thought was put into the presentation. And I couldn't tell you what was in it, but it was strong enough that I knocked over the glass after I'd had about half of it. We also had the Mexican street corn, which was warm and delightful. Alma Cocina Latina is a restaurant that needs to be on everyone's 'must try list'. I was pleasantly surprised during my dining experience and look forward to dining there again VERY soon. I initially made my reservations for an anniversary dinner for my boyfriend and I two days prior to going [although securing a reservation a week prior is advised]. I must say, it was a magical evening to remember. From the time we walked into the restaurant to the time we walked out we were awestruck. Walking in-we were greeted with soft Latin music that immediately transported us melodically to a different world. Service was exceptional from start to finish. The hostess greeted us and was prompt in getting us to our seats. The pictures of the location do it no justice- you'd simply have to experience the glamour of this location. Next to the hostess podium is the official entrance to the restaurant marked by beautiful curtains- once drawn back you will get a glimpse of what is housed behind them and the true experience begins. My boyfriend and I were escorted to our seats and our hostess, having made a note that it was an anniversary dinner, (which I added to the notes section when I made the initial reservation) came back to give us complimentary champagne to celebrate. Spencer, our server was very attentive and helped us peruse the menu while including his recommendations. Appetizers came out almost as soon as we ordered them. The dumplings had an array of flavors that exploded in our mouths- the taste intensified with each bite- dancing from smokey, to savory, to delicate. It was smoky from the bacon or perhaps barbecue- presentation was amazing. Kinda tasted like a sophisticated breakfast burrito in a dumpling. Chicken is smaller the size of my palm but worth every bite! The creamy sauce underneath is delicious mimic curry, chicken creamy texture chicken was very well seasoned fish came in a spiral flaky crust white meat in the middle. Presentation was beautiful. Fish had heavy cilantro flavoring. If you don't like cilantro I wouldn't order it but if you do, it's very decadent. The desert was exceptional! Best churros I've ever had! read more
We came here for my dad's birthday dinner and I really liked it! Alma Cocina is overall just a nice vibe with all the plants (very impressed with how big some of them are and I think they're all real!), exposed brick, lights, and big windows. I've actually been meaning to go back. The prices reflect that the restaurant is a little upscale but I didn't really mind because in general the food was... well balanced? (The steak was a tiny bit too salty but still cooked well and I enjoyed it anyways.) The drinks were good and the service was great! My dad had a question about one of the drinks and the bartender came over to our table to not only explain but ended up making him a customized cocktail, which I thought was really sweet. read more
Wonderful restaurant that I highly recommend for a very delicious and high quality meal in an establishment that is very unpretentious yet still very nice. I went here with a 3 friends and we split 3 appetizers and 2 entrees and left very full. The special passion fruit martini was also so delicious! I've been here before and I'll def be back. Only issue is that of you were dining on entrees alone you definitely wouldn't be full. read more
Delicious food, wonderful service, and impeccable ambience! The decor and greenery in this space is one of a kind! There's a paid lot across the street that is fairly priced. Make a reservation if you can, the place is always poppin and the food speaks for itself as to why. read more
