Welcomed by owner and treated like family. Food was authentic and delish. Try the octopus! And the pork!

    More bar at Zorbas.

After going three times, it's time to review. This is a fantastic restaurant in Greekstown. The food is among the best Greek I've had. I love that it's a real Baltimore bar on the first floor and really no different than many cool local hangouts. Upstairs is dining and it's nice, not fancy. Every time I have gone in I'm surrounded by the Greek language, which I don't know, spoken by older gentleman who have populated the neighborhood for decades. That was my hint that I was in the right place Yesterday I got take out during COVID. We bought a feast. The best (no joke) lamb chops I've ever had. They are so tasty I want the leftovers with eggs in the morning. They come with sides like Horta (a Curley endive cooked like collapses sorta) Amd the traditional green beans in tomato sauce. The grilled octopus is extra good. One Greek salad they make will blow your mind. No lettuce, but onions, tomato, olives, huge chunks of feta, and the dressing of oregano, vinegar, Amd the best olive oil. See my pictures. This is a wonderful place. I want badly for Covid to be over so I can go hang at the bar and learn some Greek.

"Sliced" zucchini - there were 3 more pieces. There was no seasoning whatsoever - not even a grain of salt on or in this.

We came here because of the great Yelp reviews, and they also happened to be open on Sunday. Yelp is normally a great resource that we frequently use, and it is rare that we are steered in the wrong direction. This was one of those rare cases. We expected and were looking forward to great Greek food. We really wanted gyros since we love the combination of the meat with the spices, cooked on a rotisserie. We know not many places use the traditional lamb, and since this place offered chicken or pork - that was fine. We ordered two pork gyros. We also ordered the appetizer of sliced zucchini, and a couple of beers. When we got our beers, mine tasted fine, but I am not really a beer expert. My partner started drinking his, and then he asked to look at my bottle. I didn't ask why. I later found out that his bottle had expired - it was past the date - and he could taste it. Considering that they have NO beer on tap, the fact that we got an expired bottle makes even less sense. He didn't tell me at the time because he didn't want to sour my experience at this place. We got our zucchini app - and although it was technically "sliced", they were huge, cross-wise slices - not really sliced in a normal way. They were hot, and we dug in. Salt. All I was thinking when I took my first bite is that they forgot to season the flour, or the zucchini - or anything. Bland was an understatement. Even with the accompanying lemon wedge, it was so bland that it seemed to be a mistake. All they had to do was sprinkle some salt when it came out of the deep fryer. It was disappointing, but when we added salt, it was better. Then our "gyro" stuffed pitas came out. At first glance they looked appetizing. Then we took a bite. There was nothing even vaguely resembling gyro meat in those pitas. We knew we ordered pork, but the chunks of "meat" in there didn't look or taste like any pork we have ever encountered. Hidden by the tzatziki sauce, there were pieces of meat that were so fatty, so flavorless, and so disgusting that I actually pulled them out of my pita and just ate some of the pita with the salad that was in there. We clearly left food on our plates because our waitress asked if we wanted to wrap it. I then told her that this wasn't a "gyro". She then said that they don't make lamb (we knew that - it wasn't on the menu), and that's why she asked if we wanted chicken or pork. She said they call it gyro because most people expect chunks of meat - not really gyro meat. In other words, they believe that most people have no clue, so they can throw whatever they want into a pita, and customers won't know any better. Sorry, but that's a pathetic excuse for what was served. Not all customers who are not Greek are that clueless. We're from NYC - we know what a gyro is SUPPOSED to be - and we expected it to be authentic - or at least CLOSE. Here is the official definition: A gyro or gyros[a] (Greek: , gyros [iros], literally 'turn') is a Greek dish made from meat cooked on a vertical rotisserie. Like shawarma and tacos al pastor, it is derived from the lamb-based doner kebab.[1][2] In Greece it is now most often pork, or chicken, while a mixture of beef and lamb is common in the U.S. and other countries. It is usually served wrapped or stuffed in a flatbread such as pita, with tomato, onion, tzatziki sauce, and sometimes french fries. When she offered "pork or chicken", we still presumed it would be gyro - and not some tourist-trap sandwich. I'll be honest - I love grilled shish-kababs of meat - almost any kind of meat - including pork. This was nothing like that. I was even considering that the pork might have been spoiled because of the gray color and weird texture. Thankfully I didn't eat enough to test that theory and get sick. After a lovely 4 day weekend vacation in Baltimore, we were expecting an authentic, enjoyable and great Greek meal. Unfortunately, it turned out the be one of the worst meals we have had in many, many years. Perhaps their other food is better. Perhaps they simply forgot to rotate their beer stock. Maybe the chef thought he salted the food. There is NO excuse for using one word on the menu, and then substituting a completely different product and making excuses when they are called out on it. Never again.

Stopped in Zorba's which is next door to the Acropolis Restaurant for an early afternoon snack; ordered the fried eggplant app and a glass of Retsina which was very good. The eggplant was perfectly cooked and fried a delectable golden brown, while the breading was excellent it was slightly bland but with the addition of some salt it was perfect. The portion size was extremely large, I ended up giving at least half of it away to several people sitting next me. I wouldn't hesitate to stop by and try some of their entrees in the future as many of those items are open spit roasted and looked amazing.

We got tons of recommendations to come here from friends, and boy am I glad we did. For starters, the place was cute and the waitress was very nice. Before our food came, we got bread and that bread was out of this world. Personally, I usually don't even like bread but this was something else. We ordered lamb chops and a chicken gyro wrap (it was for 3 hungry people), and they were spectacular. The lamb chops were fully cooked, but still so tender and juicy. The chicken gyro wrap was so wholesome and fresh if it had been any fresher we would be in a farm! All in all, a bit pricey but definite my favorite Greek restaurant and one of my favorites in general.

This is a sad review to write because I so wanted to have a better experience. Let me start with the positives - Zorba's is authentic and the food is solid. Portions are plentiful and everything you want out of a traditional Greek experience. On my most recent visit I got the spanakopita, saganaki, and the chicken souvlaki. The spanakopita was personally more spinach than I'd like but definitely still good. Describe it as a mound of spinach with a little bit of feta and a sheet of phyllo. The chicken souvlaki was so good and tender. Sauce was on point. What makes me give this place 2 starts is the service. I went two times, once with a big group and once with just me and a friend and both times I was so disappointed with the service. The time I went with a big group (10 ppl) the food took FOREVER. Our waitress was generally so confused every step of the way and never checked on us after giving us our food. She overcharged the table about $40 extra for food we didn't order. I personally had to recalculate every item myself in order to prove the overcharge. Even after that misstep, a 25% gratuity was added. At this point I was so over it that I didn't contest even though I should have. I figured this mess might have been due to the fact that we were a big party so I went back with a friend to give it a second chance. Again, very disappointed with service. Food took forever even though the place wasn't crowded, waitress was extremely inattentive. I wish I had a better experience because the food is good. But, for now, I'm going to hold off on Zorba's.

Wow, as soon as I walked in, I felt I wanted to eat fish there. And that's after letting it go for 5 years! Though I asked for scallops that were the best I've ever had. And the basillie fish wow! And the egg plant wow. The staff were wonderful and kind and receptive. Great service! Me and my family will come back again!!!!!!

5 star, that's right. Every one is deserved. I was told by a Greek friend (actual FOB greek) that this was the place to go for MEAT, of all the other choices in greektown, baltimore. The venue is small although there might have been an upstairs. There is bar as first walk in followed by some dinner tables at the end. In the very back, you can see pork being roasted on large rotisserie sticks behind a glass window that looks into kitchen. The smell is immediately intoxicating. Our waitress was incredibly friendly and attentive (greek hospitality?). I'm a big ice water drinker, and she kept my glass full the entire time w/o me noticing. Bravo. Now for the food. - Grilled Octopus: plz plz plz get this. everyone deserves to try this at least once in their life. Incredibly tender, LARGE chunks of octopus. The outside had great char, the inside was juicy and flavorful. BEST i've ever eaten. - Lamb chops: some of the best tasting rack of lamb i've had. the same quality you'd find at a fancy steakhouse but for only 25$ you get 8, EIGHT, 8 pieces. This comes with a side of taziki which is a great compliment to the meaty tasty of the lamb. - Pork: the pork was wonderful flavor, not too salty either which is a danger with roast pork. The portions were ENORMOUS. my only criticism was it was a bit dry (just a bit). - Side: greek potatoes, endives, rice pilaf, string beans: these were ok, nothing to look forward too but they have an

First time here and really enjoyed it. Due to the snow most places were closed but thankfully they were open. Michelle was our waitress and she was great. Although it is a Greek Restuarant I ordered the whole rockfish and it was fantastic but you have to pick out the bones. Well worth the effort. My wife ordered the lamb chops and she enjoyed it. Give this place a shot

It's a very small restaurant but the vibes were perfect - the staff really made us feel like family. They don't have large tables but they put a few together just for us. My heart was so overjoyed by that because I've been to places that will just split you up when that happens. The food was IMMACULATE. First off, most of the menu is already dietary restriction friendly (for people who don't eat pork or gluten or have nut allergies) -- but I was really impressed by our waitresses knowledge and her intuitiveness. We didn't have to ask, she went over everything unprompted to make sure everyone ordered comfortably. Secondly, whoever is in the kitchen needs TEN THOUSAND KISSES. Don't you dare skip the salad! So fresh and so good. The homemade dressing was perfect. Foodie hack: Add a piece of feta to your pita and drizzle dressing over it, trust me. The branzino OMG - this dish alone deserves Michelin stars. You get the whole fish (bone included) and it's cooked to perfection. The sides were delicious but I didn't eat much because I was so focused on the fish. I love that they let you do half rice/half potatoes if you're indecisive like me. Both were so flavorful, I couldn't pick a favorite. The roasted veggies were also pretty fire, they put some kind of sauce on them that really turned them up, I finished these first btw if you wanted an indicator of how good it was. I had a bite of one of my team members moussaka - definitely will order this when I'm looking for a heartier belly-warming meal. It's like a Greek lasagna. Another 10/10. All the desserts are made in house and you can tell. I thought I hated baklava, turns out I never had good baklava until yesterday. It was so warm and sweet and full of spice. We loved the custard and rice pudding as well! Premiere entrees and dessert for 5 people for $150 is unheard of! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do yourself a favor and treat yourself (and loved ones) to this amazing authentic Greek spot.

We were greeted right away by super friendly staff who made us feel right at home. To start things off, we split an order of their Tzatziki served with pita. The Tzatziki was creamy and fresh, with just the right balance of garlic and dill, and the warm pita was perfectly soft. It's a must-get if you're a fan of Mediterranean appetizers; it really set the tone for the meal. For my main, I went with the Sliced Gyro pita wrap. Let me just say: this is a classic done right. The meat was tender and flavorful, with those crispy edges that make a gyro amazing. It came loaded with fresh veggies and a generous drizzle of more of that delicious Tzatziki. Everything was nicely wrapped up in a fresh, fluffy pita, making it super easy (and not too messy) to eat. Service was quick. Our food came out in what felt like no time at all, even though the place was comfortably busy. The staff checked in just enough without being overbearing, and the space was spotless. If you're looking for great Greek food in Baltimore in a relaxed setting, Samos Greek Island Grill is definitely worth a visit. Between the welcoming staff, fast service, and tasty food, I'll absolutely be back to try more from the menu. Highly recommend!

The calamari was perfectly breaded and crispy. The hummus had a great blend of garlic, parsley, a bit of cayenne and red chili flakes with lemon and paprika. The salmon was impressively at the perfect temperature. I thoroughly enjoyed my entire meal. The Yero plate had the best slices of beef and lamb. They were soft and absolutely well prepared. Our dinner was accompanied with two musicians who played lovely traditional Greek songs. The music was not too loud and we were able to have a nice conversation at our table. Service was a tad slow towards the end of our meal. We were seated in the basement and there was a time when not a single server was on the floor. We shared the grilled halloumi cheese appetizer. The cheese was cold by the time it got to us, and the plate came with two small olives--just two. At that point, don't bother. I had the bronzini, which had a good flavor, but was mostly skin. There was very little fish attached to two filets. My wife had the scallops. The entree came with five or six (can't remember exactly) medium-sized scallops. We don't live in Baltimore but if you live or work nearby. I highly recommend checking them out. Parking was about a block away. For twenty five cents an hour. Also metered street parking available if you can find it. We would not hesitate to attend another event here. It was definitely worth it.
