The food at Chris' is awesome. Today was my first visit. I intended to stop in for a light lunch but the menu has so many great options. I chose the falafel pita, and elected to make it a platter. Even with huge portions, the price was still a bargain. The Greek side salad was crisp and tasty. They brought out a bottle of house-made dressing. There were so many chunks of Falafel in the pita, and the mound of rice with it was huge (you can have fries instead). I enjoyed a beer with it and the frosty mug that came out with it actually had little icicles on the rim. My server was Billy, who was very friendly and attentive. I will have to get back there soon & take my husband next time.

I would eat here everyday if I could. The staff is extremely friendly, and the food is AMAZING. Great variety to menu. The famous gyro is HUGE and DELICIOUS! Grape leaves are the most authentic I've ever had. A beautiful woman on their staff gifted me a mini Jesus after seeing my cross necklace. God bless all of you at Chris'

So, they haven't been re-opened for too long. They were packed tonight so the service was slow, waited for 10 minutes for a menu in a "seat yourself" joint. Tried to order a combo plate and was told they "were too busy". That might need to change or put a disclaimer on the menu. For the goods, the food is just as good as it used to be at the old location and the prices are still reasonable. The decor is white walls with Greek art and some interesting decor option that they brought over from the d location.

    Pasticio

I had not gone to Chris Charcoal Pit since before it was destroyed by the tornado. Decide to try the New location. Ordered Pasticio which comes with a salad and pita bread. It was very dry, no flavor, very little meat and sauce. It was covered in oregano. Lots béchamel sauce. Not impressed. The previous Pasticio that was served when they were on West Street tasted like Pasticio this does not. I don't know what happened to the recipe. Also, you do not serve Pasticio with pita bread unless this is the new modern style.

I was finally in the area and got a chance to go in person and wow, the experience of eating the food fresh there was even better - although I must say this food does travel very well. I wish I caught the young man's name, who was the cashier, but he was great! He was very friendly, just seemed like a good, hardworking kid. I wanted a classic so I just got the gyro platter, the Greek fries and the soup. The soup is so good and reminds me of my favorite Greek place back home in chicago, I used to eat this type of soup every weekend with my family. Ingredients are fresh here and quality is always A1. The Greek fries are my favorite and a guilty pleasure. They are so flavorful and have the best texture. The gyro was also very filling and they really don't skimp out here with their toppings. I'm an extra sauce kinda gal and here, they really just go above and beyond without you ever needing to ask them. I wish I had a closer location in DC! Kidding, because my friend and I were treated as if we were royalty, wearing nothing but the finest of finery. We were there just before noon on a Tuesday, not the busiest lunch of the day in every restaurant I know. But this place is enormous, so I imagine they could have accommodated two very easily, regardless. Everything was absolutely spotless, gleaming and shining - there are photos of dining there, but even in daylight, it had a beauty seen in the finest restaurants. The service was absolutely perfection - as a former wait person, I'm picky ;) Richard was there when we needed anything and left us alone to gab when we didn't. And of course, the food. The FOOD! Seriously, best Greek food I've had in years and years. I chose the lunch gyro pita, which was overflowing with tender, perfectly spiced gyro meat, with just the right balance of tomatos, onions and feta cheese. Coulda been more tzatziki but I am kind of an addict to that stuff, so it was probably just the right amount. ;) I also ordered the fasolakia (green beans simmered in tomato sauce, but that doesn't begin to explain the complex mix of flavors and textures!) So delicious, with the beans still crispy tender, and a hint of cinnamon which I dont' recall having in this dish before. It was amazing! They serve every platter, sandwich and pita with a very hefty serving of giant steak fries. They had a nice seasoning but were more like house fries. In other places, "Greek fries" had a drizzle of oil and crumbled feta so I wasn't expecting these. But yum! Good enough to bring some home, because the air fryer will make them terrific again. In all, I was so delighted and really wish this wasn't such an out of the way place from home. I definitely will come back, despite that, because there are so many dishes I want to try. As others mentioned, lots of free parking but here's a quick word of caution if you use GPS to get here. When you exit from MD100 onto Executive Park, it will tell you to take the first left but DON'T DO IT! That's the M&T Bank parking lot. Go just a tad bit farther and don't be surprised by having to look a little because it's so like a business park.

First off, I'll say that I like their food. My wife and I have ordered from them and eaten on-site in the past. Last night, we opted for delivery. First, I called in. The person on the phone (all evening over about three calls it was the same person on the phone, I believe) said they didn't take delivery orders over the phone, they only used delivery services, and I would need to order that way. Not optimal for me, but okay. I went to the BGC (Big Greek Cafe) site, selected the Urbana location and ordred delivery. After taking all my information the site swapped my address for another address (an address I don't even know, at that). I used the "edit" feature to once again select and save my address, but the delivery address wouldn't change. Okay, I called BGC to ask them to change the address. What I got was one of the worst customer experiences of my life. We have nothing to do with the delivery services. Only they can change anything. No, I can't look up your order--it's "Impossible." No, you can't speak to a manager. There's nothing I can do. He then got defensive and thought I was personally attacking him when I said that their system seemed pretty useless. Mind you, the order had just gone in a couple minutes before. The idea that they couldn't look up an order they were about to prepare was just mind-bending. I told the voice on the phone that if the order didn't arrive I'd cancel the charge. The answer--go ahead and cancel the charge. When I then said I'd write a bad review if the issue wasn't resolved the voice on the phone--and I kid you not--laughed and hung up the phone. The issue did get resolved. The delivery driver called to let me know he was just a few minutes away from the (wrong address) house. I let him know the right address, and he delivered our order just a few minutes later. BGC, however, was worse than useless in this case, and actively unhelpful. If the person BGC chooses to be their customer-facing ambassador has such a disengaged, uncaring attitude, I have a concern for how long it takes for that attitude to infect the rest of the operation. In any even, that's not the type of experience I look for when just trying to order a pleasant dinner. Buyer beware at BGC Urbana.

Cons: The service was not great. They have lots of staff--someone to light the candles, someone to bring the water, someone to take our order, someone to bring out the appetizer, someone to bring out drinks, someone to bring out entrees, etc. But there was very little follow up along the way. Our waters never got filled again. Our server took our drink order right away, but took a long time to come back to take our food order. Despite that, we still got our drinks well after the appetizer came out. The next time we saw the server was when we were done eating. The food should have been better for the price as well. We shared the grilled halloumi cheese appetizer. The cheese was cold by the time it got to us, and the plate came with two small olives--just two. At that point, don't bother. I had the bronzini, which had a good flavor, but was mostly skin. There was very little fish attached to two filets. My wife had the scallops. The entree came with five or six (can't remember exactly) medium-sized scallops. My wife described them as "forgettable," with very little thought to presentation (some of the scallops were laying on their side on the plate. The asparagus was overcooked. The calamari was perfectly breaded and crispy. The hummus had a great blend of garlic, parsley, a bit of cayenne and red chili flakes with lemon and paprika. All these ingredients make a plain hummus extra tasty. Our two main entrees consisted of the broiled Atlantic salmon with asparagus and Greek potatoes and the Yero plate containing rotisserie beef and lamb slices serviced over pita, with tzatziki, and salad. The salmon was impressively at the perfect temperature. I thoroughly enjoyed my entire meal. The Yero plate had the best slices of beef and lamb. They were soft and absolutely well prepared. Our dinner was accompanied with two musicians who played lovely traditional Greek songs. The music was not too loud and we were able to have a nice conversation at our table. Service was a tad slow towards the end of our meal. We were seated in the basement and there was a time when not a single server was on the floor. Water service was lacking and odd -- we waited quite some time for a refill and when someone did come, only one of us got the refill when we both needed water! Still, I loved the food and atmosphere. Parking: Plenty in the back of the restaurant.
