I am beyond ecstatic that Chris's was able to re-open after that devastating tornado! We are in Crofton, MD (not sure why it says we are in Arlington?) and have loved their food for years (especially their cheesesteaks!!!!) but it is their staff and especially the owners who keep us coming back no matter where they are. Ordered this on delivery app. Pizza is very bad and the cheese all arrived slide off. I felt the urge to review this place because prior to ordering I didn't see much about the pizza... so I'm here to say don't do it. The calamari rings tasted like something from the frozen food aisle not a restaurant. Gyro seemed like a good size but nothing to really say about it. OMG I live for a good Gyro and this place consistently delivers. The meat has a nice charcoal flavor, the toppings so fresh ( including cucumbers and cilantro which are not always seen). Service was quick and plenty of napkins included. Honestly I have never had better. It's the gold standard. read more

This was our first visit to Chris's since it re-opened in Edgewater. We arrived mid-afternoon and it was easy to find a table. They have definitely recreated the ambiance of the original Chris's on West Street. Our server was delightful. We ordered the gyro and it did not disappoint. Lots of shaved beef and lamb with all of the usual accompaniments. We were, however, disappointed in the onion rings. They were fairly expensive as a menu item and looked they had come from a bag of frozen onion rings from the supermarket. Took home a baklava to enjoy later. read more

I was really looking forward to their reopening as they consistently had the best gyro in the area. But my wife and I went there for lunch yesterday and we were massively disappointed. The gyro was packed with a generous potion of meat but unfortunately it was dry and the spicing was inadequate. The pita bread too was dry and kept cracking apart making quite a mess. And for some reason, they seemed to hold back on the tzatziki sauce. Barely a teaspoon's worth. The food was excellent, the service was lacking. We visited early on a Friday evening, it was not that busy when we arrived but was when we left. We ordered the white pizza which was delicious and the chicken parmigiana, also delicious and such a hefty portion it has lasted me three meals. Our disappointment was with the wait staff. She was very flustered even when she wasn't that busy. My salad came out after my chicken and only came because I asked her for it. Then I asked for the bread, she said she'd check to see if I could get some (the menu said my meal came with bread and salad), but she never came back with it. She didn't know the menu and got frustrated easily. We will give them another chance because the food was so good, but if the service is the same or similar, we will probably just stick to carry out. read more

Bottom Line: Flavorful food, friendly staff and a casual, comforting atmosphere. Chris' Charcoal Pit serves Mediterranean fare that is cooked on a charcoal grill, super flavorful and often healthy. The menu has so many good items on it that it's hard to choose but I don't think you can go wrong with any of them. The service is super friendly and the staff makes you feel right at home. The restaurant isn't fancy or modern but it does has a homey feel to it, which I like. Wonderful!!!! Excellent service and perfect food! We came with our toddler and they were so kind to him (thank you, Chris)!!!! They carry two or more types of Greek beer. We loved the Mythos! I shared the Greek Sampler platter with my mom and it was sooooo good! The stuffed grape leaves and the spinach pie were my favorite. We got the hummus for an appetizer and it was homemade and delicious. Highly recommend this restaurant and can't wait to come back. read more

I normally don't like to give bad reviews especially with businesses losing money during this pandemic but I have to this time. This place robbed me of $11.50....yes they did! I purchased a steak and cheese with mushrooms and paid a $1.50 extra for green peppers also. The sub was literally and I mean LITERALLY nothing but mushrooms and mayo. I counted 3 little pieces of steak on the entire sub. I was disgusted because I didn't open it until I got home which is almost 50 minutes away. The cheese was burnt and the sub roll was hard as a roll of quarters. I'm so disappointed with this place. It wasn't by accident either. I will NEVER step foot in this place again! I stopped in for the Gyros and fries for lunch. This decor is outdated and if you dine in you get to eat off beige plastic plates from the 70's. The food and the service was good. The prices are way to high. $15 for lunch with an ice tea to drink. Give me a break. Pita bread, Greek meat, cucumbers, tomatoes and onions...$9, fries $2.75. The gyros might have come all the way from Greece and that would explain the high price. Cash only business, no credit cards. Decided to go to the new location . So disappointed with the food. I ordered a gyro..The gyro came out with so much lamb on it there was no possible way to pick it up. If I am ordering a wrap one wants to pick it up and eat it. I could not do that and i was not planning on picking it apart and eating all that. I lost any desire to eat it and could not and sent it back. It was also very dry from the looks of it.I asked for the menu and ordered the chicken on rice,. This was edible but the chicken was so dry. There was absolutely no taste to it. My friend ordered the Athenian delight and she said the chicken was dry too. It was like it was already cooked and it was microwaved to warm up. I was looking forward to going and am sorry to say I won't be going back. So I got tell ya I Love this place staff is nice and super helpful! It reminds me of the old greek shops on the streets of Astoria Queens in New York. They have a great Gyro that's over flowing. I was a frequent customer of the location on West Street (dine-in and carry out) and then...a tornado. I finally visited the location in Edgewater and was somewhat disappointed. Don't get me wrong, the service and family atmosphere was amazing however, the food I enjoyed at their original location was far superior than what Chris' Charcoal Pit is now serving. I ordered my all time favorite, a basic steak and cheese with lettuce, tomato, grilled onions with hot peppers, mayo and ketchup on the side. There was absolutely no flavor in the steak, tomato was mushy and almost green, the roll was not as sturdy to support ingredients (turned to mushy bread), and they are now using a very green leaf lettuce which is not necessary and overly abundant (1/2 the ingredients on the roll). Couldn't even taste the slight portion of provalone cheese. To all the West Street location loyalists, this is not the same Chris' Charcoal Pit and I'm sad. read more

Meh!! I have had better cheaper greek food from a food truck. Very disappointing. The restaurant is a little dirty and the food is just ok. My biggest complaint is that a gyro platter is $16.95 when you dine in and $14.95 if you take it to go. So strange. Why are they different prices??? When we asked, they said because one was take out and the other was dine in. That doesn't make any sense to me. The greek salad was good. No complaints. The gyro took a while but it was hot. It lacked flavor. I have had a lot better. We were one of the first customers when it opened and it wasn't very busy. The food took a while. The server was nice and attentive that's one star and the food was hot. Two stars. This restaurant was recommended by a friend and the yelp reviews sold us. We'd been wanting to try this place forever, always driving by and saying we'd come back. Well, we finally had a date night last night and decided to check it out. It's smaller than I expected, and pleasantly casual. All the tables are high-tops, but it's relatively family-friendly. The ambience is kind of like a bright-lit, family-friendly bar that happens to make bomb food. Seriously, the food was *awesome*. We ordered the awesome smoked burger (initially, we got it undercooked, but they were super gracious and quick to cook it some more). We also got the cole slaw (delicious), wings (good), ans the collard greens. Lemme tell you, those collards are some of the best I've ever had. We ended up buying a pint of it at the end of the meal to bring home to us. There's a good amount of craft beers, regular beers, and hard ciders. I ordered a Moscow Mule, which was good. The service is so friendly - we had a hard time finding somewhere to leave the carseat, and one of the guys working there made sure we found a comfortable spatious spot. The food does take forever to come out of the kitchen and I didn't get a refill for my water and did not wanted to beg to get a refill. I liked the Fried Zucinni Sticks. With the outside of the locale looking like a dive, I knew we were in for a treat. Walking in, guests can seat themselves. When a server introduces themselves, you'll quickly learn from their menu that there's something for everyone! For starters, we had to get the mozzarella cheese sticks. Out of curiosity, we ordered the fried mac n cheese. The stocks were great but Oh. My. Word. The fried Mac was da bomb. Imagine little fried nuggets with Mac and cheese inside. You won't regret this little delish dish. I had to order the chicken gyro just to confirm they could handle the task. Delish slices of chicken buried in feta cheese, lettuce, onions, tomatoes, and tzatziki sauce are lightly hugged by a pita. Two hands or a fork are your only ways to eat this. Lastly, if you have any room for dessert, go for the baklava. Or get some to go. read more

AMAZING. Haven't found authentic Greek food like this except for the place by my grandmas house in Astoria, Queens. The decor is a little dated and makes you question what you may have gotten yourself into. But let me tell you, you WILL NOT be disappointed. First time. Quick lunch alone. Decent restaurant, worth a try. Small greek salad with gyro meat on it was a good size. Lots of tasty red onion, tomatoes, cucumber, and green peppers. Light on the crumbled feta, which I like better than too much. Oil based dressing was sharp tasting, perhaps lemon flavored. My only issue was the lettuce was iceberg, not romaine. About 5 strips of meat on top was plenty. Everything is additional cost for salads and sandwiches (some entrees come with sides). $1.50 for one 6 inch diameter round of toasted pita bread. Could not tell if it was homemade or not, but good enough and warm. Sauces like tzaziki would have been extra. Fresh brewed iced tea was delicious with free refills. Outside is a rundown strip mall storefront, but inside is nice, with a take-out counter or restaurant seating. Nice Greek decor and music. Friendly staff, prompt service. Pay at counter on way out. They accept Visa/Master Card, but tips must be cash (which I don't like b/c it enables tax evasion). $16 plus tip for my quick salad lunch. This place was a surprise. We never go to Greek restaurants but when we asked our car salesman where was a good place for lunch, he suggested this place. It looks like a little hole in the wall but it was very nice inside. Loved the ambience. Our server was amazing. Everything arrived promptly. We had the Ultimate Gyro and the Chicken Gyro. They were huge. The pita was thick and delicious as was the meat. They come with honey mustard sauce or a white sauce (Greek name; can't remember) that tasted like a cucumber/dill mix. Very good! We really enjoyed this place. Someone in a previous review said they only had high tops. Maybe that was true a year ago but we only saw regular tables. They also have carryout.
