The coolest and cutest restaurant in Baltimore! Cookhouse has been on my list for quite some time now and I am so glad I finally went. While the line was long, I got there about 15 minutes before they opened and it was perfect. I love that the menu changes all the time, but was specifically excited about the "sticky situation" cocktail. Wow! It was amazing. Definitely sweet but such a fun, yummy drink. My table neighbors raved about the matcha cocktail and the caesar salad martini. Will have to try those next. And, I will have to go back on a Thursday and get the burger. The steak frites (Wednesday special) was amazing. The summer salad (locally sourced and grown ingredients) was the perfect start to the meal, as well as the sourdough bread they gave us. The lobster mac and cheese are an incredible dish to have with our steak. It was truly the perfect meal. Come early and enjoy the sunlight coming through the windows. This swanky restaurant has so much character. I decided to sit at the bar and watch the food and drinks come out. The bartenders, full of smiles and dimples , are knowledgeable and very busy. A lot of Sticky Rice Cocktails were sliding from behind the bar. It is a fan favorite. I know because I tried Sticky Rice at a private event and it was delicious and in high demand. I opted for a low acid White wine , Bambino Bianco . Very tasty and I was tipsy . ( also I was on an empty stomach) The guy next to me was LIT. He and his girlfriend had several shots of PAISON ANCESTRAL. Cookhouse is popular . Do not come here thinking you will have a table . Ppl like to sit and talk and pretend they are in NY. Outside seating allows you to bring a dog with a big bone . There was one in the front of the line waiting for his chance to be seen here. I ordered the THERMIDOR CROQUETTES for the starter but never again. The filling should be in a seafood pot pie. Lobster was scarce and that tasty stock sauce was minimal. There was lots of fried dough, good but for $25 I want more filling. I was kinda jealous of the couple next to me because they had the Birria Empanadas and they were stuffed ! We got here at 5:45 pm on a Wednesday to line up as this place opens at 6 and typically has a line as they don't take reservations. This was good as the line grew pretty quickly. This is also a cozier ambiance with limited outdoor seating and limited indoor seating. The service was okay, we kept having to remind the waitress about a couple of things. As for the food, the wings were my favorite. I think this menu wasn't as interesting for the entrees as they previously have been and with higher prices. I wish there were more creative dishes. I was recently in town for an event and met my local colleagues here for an absolutely AMAZING dinner! From the whimsical (and tasty) caesar salad martini to a truly spectacular array of food, this was an experience I'll remember for a long time. But before I get to the food, I want to mention how accommodating the restaurant was as our party size nearly doubled in the 24 hours leading up to the dinner. I was so grateful that they were able to make space for what ended up being a group of six of us. We were seated at their lovely, luxurious chef's table near the back, where we were able to settle in to their beautiful velvet seating and await the evening ahead. We started, of course, with cocktails. The bartender at my hotel, when I told her where I was having dinner, said the caesar salad martini was a must-try and that the CookHouse master of spirits, Gabe, was a true genius behind the bar. She wasn't wrong. The martini truly tasted exactly like a caesar salad, and was adorned with a crouton garnish to complete the effect. Then, we dove into appies. I'm pretty sure we ordered one of almost everything on the starter menu. I wish I could remember everything we ordered, but standouts included the octopus, steak tartare, and burrata & lobster toast. Next, it was time to order dinner. We shared several entrees, including their famous steak frites (which happened to be half price because we were there on a Wednesday!), soft-shell crab, and a spring paella. Even though we were full, we couldn't resist splitting a few desserts, including a fantastic house-made creme brulee, a ginormous slab of cheesecake, and some ice cream. Let's just say, they almost had to roll us out the door. As always with an over-the-top experience, the service is what truly put CookHouse into the 5+ star range. We came to Cookhouse on a Wednesday evening. It's half price wine bottles on Wednesdays. We knew we were going to have a wait. We had about an hour plus wait. During that time the hostess let us buy a bottle of cava to drink on one of the stand up tables. We were lucky it wasn't crazy hot out. Once we got seated we ordered the Cesar salad martini and the Piney. Both were very good. Loved the crouton in the martini! The outside area was nice but very close to others since the space is very limited both inside and outside. For food we got the burrata toast, summer wedge, and the truffle mushroom ragu. My husband and I had conflicting likes and dislikes. I loved the salad and ragu but he really liked the burrata. I will say if you are plant based there seemed to be only one option. But maybe I was incorrect. So check the menu before hand. But all in all good meal, a little wait, but flavors were good. read more

We had a delightful visit for our first full meal at Cookhouse, after coming once before for drinks (the Caesar salad martini really does taste like a Caesar salad). The fondue pumpkin was pretty wild, and once we figured out that we were supposed to eat the whole thing and not just scoop out the melted cheese, we enjoyed it. The proper French dip burger was incredible. The Wagyu beef really does make a difference, and it shone here. Service was excellent throughout the meal. Came here on a Saturday night and had a pleasant experience overall. I do think there's a few things that are in need of improvement...first off the menu options, esp for food, were a bit lackluster. We just got food and wine so I can't comment on the cocktails, but I was hoping there would be NA options and there weren't any. And for such a small food menu, having 2 steak frites (one bavette and one strip) seemed odd. Second disappointment was they had run out of 2 things we planned on getting - burrata toast and orange wine. We ordered the conch fritters instead and those were excellent. For my main, I went with the bavette steak and was unimpressed. I ordered it medium-rare, and it came out medium well. There also were not enough fries IMO. Shoestring fries are already skinny and sparse, so when you only provide a small handful, it leaves a lot to be desired. For a $38 dinner, I expected better. Additionally, my partner and I both got fries, but the server only brought out one ketchup/aioli combo. Of course we're not gonna use ketchup so we had to share the aioli and ran out pretty fast. If 2 ppl get fries, 2 sauce combos should come out. The wait for mains was also a tad longer than expected but nothing too crazy. One other point of annoyance is an automatic 3% service charge as a "tip for kitchen staff." We're already tipping, so applying this without giving the option is a little ridiculous to me. It doesn't amount to a lot, but it's the principle. The norm should be paying your staff a solid living wage, and this just tells me the business doesn't value that and puts the onus on the customer instead. There were some very solid positives (the s'mores sundae was delightful) but for the price point and other amazing food in Baltimore, I'm just not sure we'll be rushing to come back. read more

Cookhouse team, you met and exceeded expectations! I had been wanting to dine here for some time, so I was excited to finally check it out on one of their "50% off wine bottles" Wednesdays. By the stroke of 6pm, there was already a small group of people collected outside. We were ushered in with a warm welcome and seated immediately in this cozy, intimate, corner row home. Service was prompt and attentive from the start. The wine and drink menu is diverse and extensive, making indecision a likely occurrence. We settled on a bottle of orange wine--deliciously funky, earthy and tart. Taking a family style approach to the seasonal, rotating menu, we started with the mushroom arancini and tigelle (burrata with ramp pesto, mortadella and fresh rosemary bread). The arancini was exceptional--that perfect crispy crunchy exterior with a creamy, Parmesean studded center. The housemade marinara and basil aioli atop made for an elevated, memorable bite. The Tigelle was equally fresh and flavorful. The burrata had the right gooey center when sliced and paired with the ramp pesto atop fluffy rosemary flat bread, the bite is firing on all cylinders. For our main, we shared the artichoke paella, a unique, show stopper. The artichoke itself was cooked to perfection, while the fiddlehead ferns end added their own roasted but still with a touch of crunch component to the dish. The paella itself was well-balanced, with flavors that complemented rather than dominated. A squeeze of fresh grilled lemon added a welcome pop of acidity. I really enjoyed my meal and experience at CookHouse! I had been wanting to try this place forever and was able to get spot a little later in the evening. The space itself is small but so cute and really well decorated! It feels homey and upscale. I came here with a friend and we split the winter salad which was really delicious and then I got the lobster rigatoni which was great! All the food was really really good and filling. The prices are a little high... but I did have leftovers and I was very satisfied! I enjoyed the cocktails I got as well- the Caesar salad martini was really interesting. Came here on a Friday night with a group of 4, it was very good but had too many issues for the price point. Cookhouse opens at 6pm, there was a small line outside but we got in right away. It is a VERY small restaurant, suggest not going in groups larger than 4, and really 2 is the best size. There are maybe 12 tables and about 6 bar seats. The cocktail menu is creative and had a lot options. We each got something different, and while the cocktails were great, only 3 of 4 were brought out. The waitress then came back multiple times to refill waters, bring us appetizers, and check on us, before we had to ask for our friend's drink for the second time. It's an "easy mistake" but for the price point of this restaurant, I don't have much tolerance. That said - All of the cocktails were delicious! I got the "You Cheeky Devil" which was super spicy and delish. I love the little fruity strawberry balls in it! For appetizers our friends got the winter salad and lil wings. The wings were actually so savory and delicious with honey gochujang sauce AND peanut sauce, loved those. The salad was ok, but a lot of bitter vegetables. For entrees, I got the lobster rigatoni. I loved the large chunks of lobster and the pasta was great. However... they didn't bring out fresh Parmesan. This is a $40 bowl of pasta, it's just not acceptable. I even paused to wait a bit but the waitress never returned so I just ate it. It was really good but that's such an easy and obvious thing to do, I was surprised. The star of the show was definitely my husbands shepherds pie. The flavors were delicious - with a savory gravy and a beautiful presentation. Everyone tried a bite and loved it. Lastly, this is a tiny restaurant with no waiting area. It's been open over a year. They can't figure out how to take reservations? This policy makes it so anyone with a disability basically wouldn't be able to come unless they came when it opened. If you need any sort of accommodation, forget about it. Pretty disappointing and totally unnecessary. Overall, this was a beautiful restaurant with a great cocktail menu and a small but mighty supper menu. I believe it's good, but at its price point, it has some unacceptable issues. However, with a few small improvements, it could be great. Cookhouse had been on my to try list for a while, and I finally tried it a few weeks ago with a friend before a show at the nearby symphony hall. And then I went back again a few weeks later. And I cannot say enough good things about this restaurant. What a hidden gem in Baltimore! Why did I wait so long to go? Why hasn't everyone been?! (Full disclosure: I have technically been before, when - during the pandemic - it pivoted to being a coffeeshop and cafe, but they are back to only dinner and drinks 4 nights a week. Just in case you see some old pictures of bagels when I used to frequent it from work.) What you need to know: It's really good. It's also small (maybe 10 tables tops - a few larger, most two-tops and four-tops - with a bar with another maybe 8 seats?). It's only open for dinner and drinks four nights a week for 4 hours each night (Wednesday through Saturday, 6-10pm; although it stays open late for cocktails until 1am on Saturdays!). And it doesn't take reservations. Don't let this stop you from trying it. Do like the locals in the know - get there at 5:45 (they open at 6) and be the first person in line for a table (each time I've gotten there at 5:45, I've definitely gotten in with the first group and gotten a table)! What makes Cookhouse so spectacular? The food and drinks are spectacular. Practically every bite I've tried has been some of the best food I've had in the city. On my first visit, the ox tongue steak with Bermuda onion red wine gravy, pomme purée, and glazed carrots made me silent for about 8 minutes while I ate it. I couldn't even talk to my friend, because I had to eat that entire tender, luscious tongue steak. (I talk a lot and silence when eating is pretty much the highest compliment I can give a restaurant and its food.) I've never had tongue like that before (I love it braised in tacos or sliced thin at delis); it truly blew me away. The smoked salmon and caviar starter we had and the gnocchi Bolognese we shared (we shared one starter and two entrees, although I think I might have taken more than my fair share of the tongue) were both excellent as well. And the food on my second visit made clear that first visit was not a fluke. Those pig ears, the perfectly cooked Iberico pork, that sticky toffee pudding...! And - as if that weren't enough - their beverage program is fantastic. The cocktails, the wine, the after dinner options...! Everything I've tried has been amazing, but there's something special on the menu if you're up for something a little different. A drink called "You" involves a member of the beverage staff coming over to your table and asking you some pretty personal questions (the idea is that they ask questions that require answers that show a little of who you really are - they don't just ask your favorite spirit and your favorite mixer; it felt like a really interesting conversation with a stranger). It takes a little bit of time, but it felt really personal and special, and I enjoyed both the experience and the cocktail created for me. Cookhouse is simply excellent. A gem. I'm almost afraid to talk it up too much - the line might get longer and I might have to start showing up at 5:30 instead of 5:45. But since it's so good that I've already been telling everyone I know, I guess there's no harm in sharing here, too! read more

The restaurant is very small but quaint and nestled in an adorable neighborhood. I was able to find parking easily on the street on a Wednesday at 5:30p which was a big plus. Note* Cookhouse does not take reservations so be sure to show up around 5:45p (restaurant opens at 6p) so you can nab a table without a wait. We arrived at 5:45 and were first in line. I ordered a mocktail to start- There isn't a list on the menu so I just asked the bartender to surprise me. I was presented with a beautiful drink with a lavish dill garnish and house made passion fruit "caviar." It was amazing! I have no idea what it was but I was impressed. If you are having a dry March or just not feeling like a cocktail, I definitely recommend trying out one of their unique mocktails! For appetizer, we tried the crispy oxtail wontons, crisped mushrooms, and crab Welsh rarebit. All 3 were amazing but I was really dazzled by the crisped mushrooms and truffled aioli! 10/10 recommend. For entree we tried the half roasted chicken and rigatoni. The roasted chicken was perfectly cooked with crispy skin, truffled mashed potatoes, and a delicious au jus on the side. SO GOOD. The rigatoni was hearty, yet light and full of flavor. I honestly couldn't stop eating it. So glad I finally made it out to try this place! We will definitely be back for more. read more

I stopped in on a Wednesday night for dinner with a friend and we had an amazing meal! There was free street parking on the streets surrounding the restaurant, we were both able to park easily. They don't take reservations so we put in our name and tried to get a drink from the bar while we waited. The only odd occurrence of the night was that they wouldn't serve us cocktails while waiting, but would serve us an entire bottle of wine (which, coincidentally was 50% off due to a special on Wednesdays!) That was strange but we ended up being able to sit at the bar for dinner so it didn't end up being a problem. I had several appetizers for dinner and my friend got the scallops. We loved every item! The restaurant itself has a very cozy and intimate feel and we were so wrapped up in enjoying the vibes that I forgot to take photos of our food -- which should speak volumes! I could just come here and drink. The appetizers: absolutely delicious. We ended up getting two plates of the escargot because it's been the best we've had in the area! The mains: the lamb? Melt. In. You. Mouth. And the portion was massive. I had to share it. And the rockfish was absolutely succulent. Our waitress was such a peach and so attentive, even though we were seated outside. Cookhouse is a cute neighborhood restaurant tucked neatly into Bolton Hill. The place is small but inviting. When we arrived on a Thursday night, we had a 40 minute wait. The time prescribed was very accurate. We were seated and received drinks and service pretty quickly. The highlight is the overall experience was by far the service. I loved how attentive but down to earth everyone was. I didn't get to try any drinks but by looks of the crowd at the bar, the bartenders are worth coming back for. For starters, we had the wings. They were delightful. Small but flavorful. The peanut sauce took them to the next level in my opinion. I would definitely order them again. The downside was the burger. I was super pressed to get one but honestly I was very underwhelmed. I saw the intention to provide a burger worthy of the price tag, however in my opinion, it was juts too many flavors that didn't come together for me. The French fries were good. They taste like fresh McDonald's fries. Overall, even though I did not enjoy my burger, I would come back. It's very rare that I don't enjoy my entree and still recommend a restaurant, but in this case the quality was there. read more

This place was super cute! Small and quaint with delicious craft cocktails. The entire place was lit up by candles! How cool is that! They had a late night cocktail hour and it was the perfect way to end the night. The bartender who created the menu was excellent in explaining everything and great service! Def recommend. read more
