I was looking for a more lively place on a Tuesday and someone recommended Bloom because of the jazz band. Nice venue and esthetics but the atmosphere is WEIRD and SUCKS! The service completely sucks!!! When I first walked in... the hostess flagged me down to ask where I was sitting...I told her I was by myself...she walks around half the bar and told me there is no seating available at the bar. She it made seem taboo. Sooooo...I go stand by the doorway and after 1-2 mins I ask her what does she recommend I do...then she tells me I can stand at the bar. After that it took over 45 mins before the bartender acknowledged me. The bartender then tells me that they are not serving patrons who are standing because they're busy. The manager tells me to stand in a specific spot and the bartender was like I am not serving standing people..my thought: "this place does not want to make money" The bartender even comes back around and let's me know that someone is about to get up, which I did appreciate. This dark and moody little spot off the lobby of my hotel was the perfect place to stop for my first cocktail in Baltimore and to enjoy a bevvy before heading out for dinner. The vibe here definitely gives 1970s, and the small, intimate space would be the perfect spot for a date night or ladies night. Since I was solo, I sat at the bar and ordered a delish Ocha Kudabai from their newly-released spring cocktail menu. I also had fun talking to the bartender, who was knowledgeable about literally ALL things Baltimore (and made a mean drink as well). Blooms is a classy, dimly lit bar located inside Hotel Ulysses. I had gotten the Spring Fling cocktail ($16), which had lavender, honey, butterfly pea, lemon and vodka and sparkling wine. It was not overly sweet, but very light and refreshing. I also tried the Jamila ($14), which had a rose infused tequila, cucumber, lime, and honey. For me this cocktail resembled a floral margarita with a unique addition of cucumbers. Our server, Mason, was very kind. He constantly checked in on us to see if there was anything we needed and made sure that our water was always filled. Bloom's does also serve some light snacks like a cheese plate, shrimp cocktail, house made chips, marinated olives, and roasted almonds. Cocktails range from $14 to $18. Very Friendly service all night. We really enjoyed that the seating was so large and comfortable. So we were pleased as soon as we were seated. We decided to try 3 different drinks to share and we loved all 3. The Old Fashioned was the purest Traditional version I like. Properly prepared. Last minute decision to go out for drinks. We made reservations for 9 and were promptly seated. At first glance I was impressed. I actually thought it looked dark and sexy. We asked for recommendations for the drinks and the waitress provided a couple options. Neither of us thought our drinks were great but mine was more palatable. So we chose from the 3 of the available options, olives and chips (nuts were the other option). So the chips were like regular potato chips . I would say roughly a 1.50 cent bag of chips. No gourmet chip, hust plain chips. And the olives were a tiny little bowl of these greasy olives. Most of them nothing but puts. I understand a limited menu and I've had bar snacks. They could do much better than this. They sell gourmet potato chips and you can get nice olives anywhere. I keep better ones in my own pantry. In terms of the service. It was ok. We were told when we arrived that there was a 90 'minute sitting period and there was no chance of us even needing half that time. The ambiance was the best part ... I would not return . Not a fan. Great vibes for a business or casual conversation, that's not centered exclusively around dining. For a bottle of sparkling water, a cocktail, and a mocktail, I paid $40 before tip. The cocktail I got tasted like medicine a little bit. The one with vodka that's $14. I had to add my sparkling water to make it palatable. The mocktail was cool, not sweet and not super memorable. When we finally asked for a menu, he told us "oh there's one over there". Another woman had it in her possession, so it was just weird that we were expected to ask someone for theirs (hence my rating). The bartender made us a mezcal cocktail with apperol, chartreuse liqour, & peppercorn garnish. It was delicious! The bartender also recommended another speakeasy in the hotel called The Coral Wig, which was actually more of a vibe. What a cute cocktail lounge. The decor alone is worth it. I came on a weeknight, with a coworker and there were a few people seated at the bar and few on the sofas. There was only one bartender so there was a little wait but he made his way to us and made our drinks with care. I ordered an espresso martini which was not on the menu but the bartender took the time out to make it for me and I really appreciated it, especially with it being my first time trying one. But even after the hype and appreciation of him going out of his way I wasn't that happy with it. No fault to the bartender and his skills just not the drink for me. If you're coming with a group of people would recommend making a reservation, by 9pm the place was packed. There is a $50 reservation fee online (for no shows). The bar staff were polite, and for the most part were pretty busy getting the orders in. They have some great cocktail choices and some small bites (I loved the French fries!). We paid $35 for two drinks and fries. Ambience is fantastic - the music is not too loud, low lights with a red tinge, and cozy seating makes this a great place for a date night or a friendly get together.
