Loved loved loved everything about this place! The ambience, quality, selection, and superb service was outstanding at this location. My husband and I enjoyed the convicted ambition, ephemera & gossamer, don fulano reposando margarita, & beguiled with delight. All of which were great! I will say the ephemera gossamer was a bit sweet, which is not my usual; it tasted like the milk left over from fruit loops (not bad but sweeter than I expected). We also enjoyed the beef tartar with the perfect crusted garlic bread slices. Overall, absolutely blown away by this spot! Case and Ted were the perfect combo bartenders that vibed off each other! Cannot recommend this spot enough!

    Just HALF of their bottles.

We love coming to the Elk room for our night caps. This place is definitely speakeasy. The door is unmarked. When you walk in you don't have access to the whole venue. But once you're in it's beautiful. Rich and dark. Very luxe. We love sitting at the bar and talking with our bartender whenever we go. I always feel like I learn new things. I'm mostly sober and they're always willing to create a mocktail and have fun with it. Things are pricy. But it's nice to come out and treat yourself to a little luxury

I have been to the Elk Room twice and both times my experience has been alright. The service and ambiance is fantastic but their drinks leave much to be desired. It is a good place to enjoy a speakeasy, romantic vibe but if you are looking for creative libations, you should look elsewhere.

Beautiful bar, such cool speakeasy vibes. You can find it through the Atlas corridor. I'm not sure it's actually worth the price tag and it can be difficult to get in, but we were there early enough that we decided to try one cocktail. Our server was very friendly, and gave some good recommendations after we found the first cocktail that was ordered wasn't available. There was a singer which made the experience even more luxurious. The cocktails were good, I very much enjoyed mine (Golden Fleece) although did not try the mezcal because I don't like the Smokey flavor, but it sounded like it was delicious.

I haven't been here in a while but came for drinks with a friend. The dim setting and ambience here is romantic and fun. Service was a bit slow but the cocktails were great. A great place to come for drinks before or after a nice meal.

This speakeasy was such a cute and fun find! We were just looking around on Yelp and found The Elk Room. Beware though-- the door is somewhat hard to find! We were lucky to find a seat as the place was packed. The bartender was super helpful and just quickly got us seated and took our drink order. The drinks were great-- but very alcohol forward. While the menu is small, the bartenders are great at creating fun drinks on the spot!

I have been wanting to visit here for a while now. It took a little legwork to find where the entrance is. But once we found it, wow! We were so impressed! The ambiance is great! There are table/chairs, bar and lounge area. We went on a Sunday night and the menu was different, limited. We thought the food was ok but nothing to rave about - we had the pizza, fries and a burger. I would be interested in going back and trying their expanded menu though. Service was great!! We sat in the lounge area, closest to the fireplace, 4 of us. It was perfect especially for a frigid cold night. The drink menu is interesting, lots of artisanal cocktails. We tried a few but they weren't to our liking and at $20 a piece, the bartender wanted to make sure we enjoyed them so she personally came over to ask how we liked the drinks and when we stated we didn't, she offered to re-do them but to something else, which was more similar to something we'd normally drink. For example, I love lemon drop martinis so she made me a martini with pineapple and passion fruit. It was delicious! I also want to return on one of the nights they have live jazz. This is a great, chill spot to hang out, in a group or just a couple looking for a nice date night.

Medium sized place. My manhattan was amazing. Bartender wasn't very engaging but I mean he made the drinks perfectly so I can't really complain- not there to talk to the bartenders. Definitely a nice and cozy spot to have a drink and talk with friends or a date! Would definitely come back!

Stopped by for a night cap cocktail with a friend. We were greeted and provided seating options of our choice. The service was quick and there was live music to enjoy. I ordered the Bebop. It was delicious. I would definitely go back, if in the area.

Stopped in on a Thursday evening and there was live music and a great speakeasy vibe. Had two drinks. The prices were not on the menu but they ended up being about $20 each. They both were very good and service was fast and attentive. The music was loud enough that you couldn't hear others conversations but still hear the people you were seated with. I enjoyed the atmosphere and would recommend.

The overall ambiance is 5/5 for a speakeasy that is still accessible and open to people that may not frequent speakeasies. The service and live music were great. I love when an establishment can share a bit about what makes them different - our server shared how the beverage director is very particular about classics and how he holds the quality to the utmost. I appreciated that. BUT OH DID THEY DELIVER. I ordered a Vieux Carré as well as a few other drinks and I'm pretty hard to please but this was the best Vieux Carré I've ever had. They took some liberties with it but the flavor and balance was second to none. We ordered a cocktail we were sure to not like... to just test the drinks and even THAT was balanced and approachable enough where we could see the craft and knowledge it took to create it and we appreciated and enjoyed it regardless. The little touches to the space was very much noticed - though I hope people get to experience next door and accessing the space from both entrances! What a fun space. Will definitely recommend and be back again.

I've been wanting to come to The Elk Room for the longest time and finally got the chance on a Friday night. It's an intimate setting, soft lighting which is signature for a speak easy. Seating is my only complaint, but if you come earlier, you'll get to choose the best seats in the house. They have a wide selection of spirits to choose from and their specialty drink menu offered different cocktails, all for $20. I got the Dark Horse, which had a smokey undertone. It was different for me, but it wasn't bad. They also serve food and there was live jazz music as well. All in all, I would definitely come back.

This is Puerto Rican pitorro, also known as ron cañita, made with care and intention rather than gimmickry. Many local liquor stores now carry the brand, and it is well worth picking up a bottle, but visiting the distillery is an experience in itself. The founder is a fellow Puerto Rican born retired military member, a background I share, and like me, he has put down roots in Maryland. That story is reflected clearly in the brand's own framing, "Puerto Rican born, Maryland made." The space feels grounded and unpretentious, and that sensibility carries through to the hospitality. We arrived late on a Saturday and were still welcomed warmly, never rushed. We were taken care of by the founder's daughter, who was exceptionally kind, attentive, and knowledgeable. She guided us through a flight that included the traditional pitorro, almond, pineapple, coffee, coconut chai, and several seasonal offerings. The flavors were thoughtful and well balanced; even the infused expressions retained a clear rum backbone rather than drifting into novelty. We enjoyed them enough to leave with several bottles. This is artisanal pitorro done right, rooted in Puerto Rican tradition and confidently made in Maryland. Buying it locally is convenient, but going to the distillery is where the people, the story, and the spirit fully come together.

The vibes are homey, almost feels like a library but not quite, very cozy very comfy. Food: Tomato Mozarella, this was my two fav things in one. Tomato and burrata/mozarella, and prosciutto and melon. Delicious. 10/10. Prawns: so good, so flavorful, and I typically am not a shrimp/prawn girl. Skirt Steak: this was such a juicy and moist (sorry) steak. I don't like chimmichurri (cannot spell that omg) but it was good! The fries were also a winner. Moroccan Hen: this felt like a cookout bbq to be honest but in the best way. It's super flavorful, very smoky, and SO juicy. Drinks: watermelon marg, orange espresso cocktail, and I cannot remember the blue drinks name but all delicious. I fear this is my fav espresso martini to date. A few of us came early and got drinks at the speakeasy upstairs which I definitely recommend! It had a great drink menu and cool vibe. For actual dinner, the restaurant itself had an eclectic menu and swanky decor. The service was spotty. I had to ask for water refills 2x. Also for a group of 12, it took about 7 mins for everyone to be served food. Yes, this is a large party, so you must have several servers come bring the food when you're charging these prices. It should've been a seamless experience but we had several friends waiting on their food while others were halfway through. The food quality itself was hit or miss. The pork belly app was delicious! Crispy and tender. But the octopus was overly chewy and weird. We had 2 dishes with it and both were cooked like that, it wasn't good. The lobster poutine was delicious and went quick. Paella was okay - the shellfish was overcooked and seemingly dried up. Drinks were good and staff was friendly. Overall, there are a lot of kinks to work out. I'd like to come back but at the price point, I wish our experience was better and wish the food was more consistently good.

This is such a perfect spot for either a date night or a fun night out with friends. The speakeasy vibe, the chic atmosphere, and the music (a smooth, chill house mix) all come together so effortlessly. Plus, being open until 2am on Fridays and Saturdays is a huge bonus. Definitely make a reservation ahead of time - this place stays busy for a reason. From my previous visit, I remember having a ravioli dish, what I believe was a braised beef, and their sliders with duck fat fries - all of which were incredible and clearly memorable since I was thinking about them for months. The sliders paired with those fries were honestly a standout. This time around, we had to get the duck fat fries again, and they were just as phenomenal as I remembered. The cheesesteak oysters were easily a 10/10 - fresh, meaty, and honestly surprising coming from someone who used to not even like oysters. We also tried the grilled octopus, which was well-seasoned (as expected, slightly chewy), and the fried calamari, which was light, not heavy at all, and paired perfectly with the sauces. The tuna tartare was another standout - super fresh, soft, and practically melted in your mouth. For drinks, we went all in. The Dirty Diamond martini with blue cheese olives was great, though if you like your martinis extra filthy, I'd recommend specifying that. The Hemingway Special had a nice subtle sour kick, and the vanilla mint espresso martini was strong (you can definitely taste the alcohol) but still smooth and frothy. The Mary Pickford with Malibu was surprisingly delicious - almost like a mocktail. The Paloma was solid, and the Code Red cocktail gave me slight cosmopolitan vibes. But the real star was the dulce de leche espresso martini--absolutely unforgettable. What really ties everything together here is the service. The staff - from the hosts to the servers - are attentive, welcoming, and genuinely elevate the experience. Overall, Code Red is one of those places you keep coming back to. If you're looking for a stylish speakeasy atmosphere with great food, drinks, and energy, this is it.

Low lighting and live jazz on Wednesdays that was a little too loud for my liking as it was super difficult to talk over but otherwise pleasant. The drinks menu is a creative format and delivered as a newspaper with some history on the prohibition era as well as drinks popularized around that time and what said drinks are known for. What Code Red loses in innovative drinks it makes up for in a well crafted cocktail. Nothing fancy or frilly here just a solid list of mostly classic cocktails done right in a nice vibey setting. Prices are about on par with a standard cocktail in DC these days. Really enjoyed my time here! Perfect place for a date or girl's date. Overall friendly service and a really friendly bouncer.
