My very 1st time going to a Speakeasy in Baltimore and I am a native Baltimorean. We came here to wrap up a date night for a late night cocktail and conversation. There is a secret black door to enter. You can make reservations however, I was unaware that reservations were needed. We waited for about 20 minutes before a table opened up. It's a cool spot. It was a little hidden like most Speakeasy's which I love. When we entered it had a cool dark but calming vibe and they weren't too busy. We had a party of 7 and we pretty much had our pick of where to sit. The waitress was talking really fast and low and we kept having to ask her to repeat herself. She never slowed down OR spoke louder. Once she had our drink orders, they didn't take long to come out. I ordered the "AKA" it was tequila based and was pretty good. Everyone was pretty happy with their drinks. This is when the night turned. 4 of the 7 of us wanted to leave and head elsewhere, the waitress made ALL 7 of us pay even though the others wanted to stay and order more. As an out-of-towner,i found this place through some research. It was right next door to our dinner location. We had to walk through an alley to find this place as it was not quite visible from the street. We walked in and was seated between the bar and the door. My husband and I enjoyed the convicted ambition, ephemera & gossamer, don fulano reposando margarita, & beguiled with delight. All of which were great! I will say the ephemera gossamer was a bit sweet, which is not my usual; it tasted like the milk left over from fruit loops (not bad but sweeter than I expected). We love coming to the Elk room for our night caps. This place is definitely speakeasy. The door is unmarked. When you walk in you don't have access to the whole venue. Beautiful bar, such cool speakeasy vibes. You can find it through the Atlas corridor. I'm not sure it's actually worth the price tag and it can be difficult to get in, but we were there early enough that we decided to try one cocktail. Our server was very friendly, and gave some good recommendations after we found the first cocktail that was ordered wasn't available. There was a singer which made the experience even more luxurious. The cocktails were good, I very much enjoyed mine (Golden Fleece) although did not try the mezcal because I don't like the Smokey flavor, but it sounded like it was delicious. read more

There are table/chairs, bar and lounge area. We went on a Sunday night and the menu was different, limited. We sat in the lounge area, closest to the fireplace, 4 of us. It was perfect especially for a frigid cold night. The drink menu is interesting, lots of artisanal cocktails. We tried a few but they weren't to our liking and at $20 a piece, the bartender wanted to make sure we enjoyed them so she personally came over to ask how we liked the drinks and when we stated we didn't, she offered to re-do them but to something else, which was more similar to something we'd normally drink. Service is a 10+/10. Zoe, Case, and Gina know exactly what they're doing. Don't let their baby faces make you think they don't know their stuff. These are some of the youngest bartenders I've come across that know what they're doing!! The vibe is great. It does sometimes get crowded even on the weekdays. My all time favorite drink here was their Splitzville. A close second would be the Fools Gold and Golden Fleece. They do a great job with their cocktails on the menu. I love when an establishment can share a bit about what makes them different - our server shared how the beverage director is very particular about classics and how he holds the quality to the utmost. I appreciated that. BUT OH DID THEY DELIVER. I ordered a Vieux Carré as well as a few other drinks and I'm pretty hard to please but this was the best Vieux Carré I've ever had. They took some liberties with it but the flavor and balance was second to none. We ordered a cocktail we were sure to not like... to just test the drinks and even THAT was balanced and approachable enough where we could see the craft and knowledge it took to create it and we appreciated and enjoyed it regardless. The drinks here are more adventurous than your normal cocktail bar and spirit forward. While the ingredients taste too notch, the biggest drawback was how expensive the cocktails were at $20, including the two mocktails on the menu. None of us loved our cocktails, but enjoyed them, but we felt there was better bang for our buck (ahem) elsewhere. Love the ambiance - it's like you stepped into a Scottish hunting lodge with wooly tartan couches and leather accents, dark moody colors and hunting prizes mounted on the walls. A Friday night in little Italy. Tonight my wife treated us to drinks at the elk room which is a known speakeasy located in the Atlas corner of tagliata and monarche. Upon arrival I was greeting by energetic lady Mikayla, she was very accommodating and entertaining as we were waiting for an available table during this busy Friday. Upon walking in you are greeted by red velvet curtains, low lighting, noises from the bartender crafting drinks and very comfortable seats as you await your waiter to take your order. The menu was intricate and detailed. With many ingredients that would require you to ask questions like I did but as someone who likes to taste how a drink is crafted It excited me. I first tried the nefarious purposes which was a very funky drink as my waiter warned me about. The drink had an earthy taste with a slight sweet aftertaste that honestly I was not a fan of. If you're someone with an easy stomach this might not be the one for you. The waiter asked if I wanted to switch out to another drink which I took his offer and chose the bebop. The bebop was blended well to the point that I was unaware that It had wasabi in It. The mezcal smokiness added a great blend of smokiness to compliment the sweetness of the coconut and sweet Potato. Overall this is a great speakeasy and It if you're ever hungry you can take a couple steps to either monarque or tagliata but you will spend a pretty penny. read more

This place was interesting. Was looking for a cigar lounge and this seemed to fit the bill but alas no smoking there, unless you have a membership. Love speakeasy's and this one was cool. Upon arrival we had to wait about 15 mins to be seated. They took our name and we waited. Not overly communicative during the wait but when it was our turn, they knew who we were. A blanket or a sheet separated the waiting area from the bar. Drinks were complex and good (and pricey). We sat near the bar at a high top because that's what was available when we were seated. Looks like they had more comfortable seats in other spots in the bar. We had a good spot to watch as people came and went and we could watch the bartenders crafting the cocktails. I would say my first two visits to the elk room were 5 star visits. In Oct 2022, I visited the first time with two people. We sat in the back room which had an awesome Halloween theme and had different cocktails. It was so great that my husband and I visited a few months later (January 20203) and loved that they had changed up the menu. Fast forward to December 2023, we visited again. I was a little sad that the menu was the same as when we visited. That's the main reason for 4 stars. Having seen the innovation the year prior, it was disappointing to not see any changes. One thing about me is that I'm consistent in what I order, so I picked what looked best to me on the menu (Fig & Matcha) and after I ordered, I looked back on my photos and realized it was one of the same drinks I ordered last time.
