We recently hosted an office gathering of about 15 people at Octobar, and everything was outstanding from start to finish. The food was exceptional. Our favorites included the salad, roasted carrots, tuna steak, chicken kebabs, and tacos. Every dish was beautifully presented and full of flavor. The desserts were equally impressive, plated beautifully and absolutely delicious. The staff was attentive, accommodating, and provided excellent service throughout the evening. They made sure everyone was taken care of and helped create a wonderful dining experience for our team. Came here for Baltimore Restaurant week during brunch for the $25 bottomless buffet special. Its usually hard to get a breakfast buffet wrong but unfortunately this buffet experience was lackluster. They offered a variety of items: deviled eggs, scrambled eggs, chicken and waffles, beef and chorizo quesadillas, sausage, home fries, and French toast. They advertised fruit salad on the menu but they didn't have it out on the day we went. For starters, the food was lukewarm. Everything could have tasted so much better if it was warm. Even when they would refill the pans, everything was still not warm enough. The restaurant was not packed but they were slow to refill for the parties that were there. When we tried to go back for a second plate, most of the items weren't replenished and the line was getting longer. It was so bad that one group asked to pay for their drinks and leave because they weren't able to get any food. My option of each item: Deviled eggs- yolk mixture was on the drier side and bland Scrambled eggs- they were ok. Just needed to be warm Chicken and waffles- it was giving "chicken tender on eggo waffle" chicken was better than the bland waffle. It also didn't help that the syrup they had was cold and thick. It made the waffle (and French toast) colder and hard to swallow. French toast- the first batch was (with the exception of being cold) perfectly cooked and dusted with cinnamon and powdered sugar. The refill batches were so burnt and hard to chew and they didn't bother putting powdered sugar on them. Again, the cold syrup didn't help. Beef and chorizo quesadillas- they may have been a crowd favorite because getting a second serving was hard because they kept going quickly and took a while to replenish. They just needed to be warmer and served with sour cream. Home fries- great with the peppers and onions. Just need to be warmer. Sausage- my least favorite thing because it didn't taste like Sausage. It was very dry. Sadly, the food was a epic fail. This may be a great place for cocktails because the bartender mixed our margaritas perfectly. They had a Build Your Own Margarita menu with many different flavor options. I opted for the watermelon margarita with a Tajin rim. Delicious! My friend had a pineapple mango margarita with sugar rim and he was impressed also. The drinks earned them an extra star because otherwise, I think the food and the slow refilling of the buffet earned it 2 stars. read more

Happy hour is from 4 to 7 pm. The food was unfortunately subpar. Some of the potatoes were hard, the battered shrimp still have the tail shell on so when you bit into it you were eating shell. The crème brûlée was probably the best tasting thing that I had from the menu. My first time at Octobar. I walked in with a big group and it was five minutes before Happy Hour ended. They were all ordering drinks from the HH menu two at a time. The bartender was busy so I looked at the menu until she was available. I waited for my friend to arrive. I thought I was going to get the tacos since it was Taco Tuesday. Went to Octobar with a few friends for drinks and a bite to eat Saturday night. The espresso martini's were very good and they have a great margarita bar. It is a tapa based menu so we had the fries, tortellini, chicken piccata, and the trio dip (tzatziki, hummus, and jalapeño feta dip). The food was pretty good and paired well with the drinks. I love tapas and a Mediterranean meal and MAN did OctoBar nail this place. With such an extensive menu (both drinks and food) I bet everyone is just as happy to find several mouth watering options here. The bar upfront is a little intimate but the restaurant then opens up in the back (and upstairs) for more space. Favorite dish: the mussels entree with the creamy lemon sauce. Some of the best mussels I've had. Avoid: the escargots appetizer. They say there's escargots in there but all we are/saw were mushrooms... the service was phenomenal. The space was beautiful; there was an upstairs and downstairs space. The vibe was fun. The food to me was just ok. I preferred the brussel sprouts and they were cooked well and had a decent flavor. I also othered the lamb meatballs and the meatballs were lacking in seasoning and the sauce tasted a little like metal. It was definitely a more than decent portion size for the price. It heated up better the next day and tasted considerably better with a little more flavor added to it. I think this place has a lot of potential if some small tweaks are made. read more

So so close to 5 stars! Almost perfect but just biffed it at the end. This was my first time to Octobar, came with my husband and another couple on a Wednesday. Happy hour is until 7 with lots of options on the HH menu. This would be a great first date spot! All of our food (some from the regular menu) was great as was the red sangria (maybe a tad too sweet- but I loved the fruit in it!). Octobar has both small tapas plates and big entrees. I loved the big menu which was great for sharing with friends. Some standout plates were the chorizo sliders, the mussels, and the warm olives. Some of the dishes could come with a few more pieces of bread. During the meal, service was great but when it came time to pay - our server was nowhere to be found! It took over 25 minutes to pay our bill, totally unacceptable. At one point he asked if we wanted boxes... surely that is a sign we are wrapping up right? Then NOTHING. He never came back. He took another table's order right next to us and then I just kept walking. It was bizarre. If I could give 10 stars I would! I ordered the Ginger Mule mocktail, which was made with fresh juices made in-house -- the perfect end to my night. The owners both took time to speak to me and my party and made us all feel at home on our first visit. The location is beautifully decorated with low lights, nautical themed decor and comfortable seating. The upper floor of the bar was cozy and quiet when we visited (around 11:00 PM). We came here for a girl's night happy hour after Googling great happy hour menus in the area - and this one was killer! The service was amazing from the moment we walked in, the bartender, bar back, and owner stopped by frequently to check on us and make sure we were taken care of. The best thing about Octobar and the one I've been screaming from the rooftops is a make your own margarita bar! They offer 10-15 flavors and you can mix and match as many as you like. We tested a few combos and we loved cucumber jalapeño! Each drink comes with a fresh garnish, as well. I had the pan con tomate, the meatballs, and the papas bravas and they were perfect. My friend had the chicken kebab with couscous, the grilled street corn, and the basil pesto tortellini and really enjoyed them. Her fave was the kebab and couscous and the tortellini. This was my first time dining at OctoBar. I made a reservation online for a Friday and it was insanely easy. Upon arrival I noticed there was cozy outdoor seating with music playing (fantastic playlist by the way!) and it feel extremely welcoming. The front door was propped open and it really made you feel like you were connected to the community and those outside walking by but still in a cozy and chill environment inside. It's dimly lit with screens showing the local games and the music isn't too loud. Overall the vibes were great. I love espresso martini's so I had to try their "world famous" one, and it did not disappoint. Out of all of the places in Baltimore I have been yet-- OctoBar takes the cake when it comes to a good espresso martini. The flavor, the body, the sweetness was perfect and they didn't forget the 3 coffee beans! I ordered the warm olives, the Tzatziki, Hummus, Feta Jalapeno with Pita Bread shareable and the lamb with orzo and feta in a spicy red sauce. It was all fantastic. I'd been eyeing the spot ever since it opened and couldn't wait to try it out. A friend and I popped in for brunch one more afternoon this summer. We got parking pretty easily and were seated right away at a table near the bar. The bartender was also our server and had great energy. She was a joy. We got the sangria she suggested which was delicious. The food, however; was a bit disappointing. It was Restaurant Week so we got a mixture of those offerings and food from the regular menu. We got the mussels, the dates, the steak and eggs, and a pork chop dish. My friend liked the dates but we didn't care for much else. Perhaps brunch wasn't what I should've tried first. A pleasant surprise. What appears to be a bar has an incredible selection of delicious cocktails and tapas. First things first, I can't recommend the OKTINI enough, it was the most refreshing and devious cocktail I've ever had. Beware it is strong with cucumber but you get used to the flavor easily. We also tried the bottle of pinot Grigio which wasn't anything to write home about, was also kinda pricey. Our server was alright but she just seemed frenzied. The tapas were the best part of the night. The Stuffed-Peppadew was to die for. I have never had anything like it, the goat cheese filing is divine. The stars were the octopus ceviche and the mussels. We had the red sangria and i was brave enough to try a mixed drink. I got a spicy Paloma. A lot of times drinks aren't spicy enough for me but this was tasted spicy from the first sip until the last!! The bar makes all their own juices. Unfortunately visited for restaurant week which may have contributed to my poor experience here. First, kudos to the single bartender that waited on the entire room on Sunday night- he was attentive however clueless. Only the pre fix menu was available, which was a little disappointing since I wanted to try certain dishes on their regular menu. We ended up getting the lamb kebab and chicken kebab. The lamb was a little tasty- but the chicken was dry and the couscous watery and tasteless. Next, I had ordered the lamb shank, but was confused when I was brought a few shredded pieces of lamb over orzo. I tried a bite anyway- did not taste like anything. I questioned if this was the correct dish - where was the shank? The shallow dish was also 5 bites at best. The bar back said he wasn't sure and would get the waiter. The waiter said he wasn't familiar with the food (what?). I actually sent it back in exchange for the burger which was better but certainly not what I had planned to pay $35 for RW. Lastly, we finished up with the chocolate cake and homemade churros. There's no doubt that cake came from a grocery store package and the churros were definitely homemade since one was very crispy and the other was still raw in the middle. Aside from the food, the margarita bar concept is cool and they were tasty. The bartender didn't end up honoring the happy hour prices, but this was rectified by management later. read more

You gotta check this place out. For tapas, the food is very reasonably priced in addition to the fact that it is DELICIOUS. I've tried the watermelon margarita and one of the cocktails, both so well made. The staff is incredibly friendly and outside seating is available. I highly recommend both the Padron peppers and the house salad -- I will be ordering both every visit. Split the chorizo burgers with a friend, and they also raved about the mussels. Cannot wait to try brunch! They're still very new, so cut them a little slack while they figure out the ropes, but they have surpassed all my expectations! read more

I'm in love with this neighborhood gem. The service was fantastic. Octavio was amazing, fun, he had great knowledge of the menu items and made suggestions based off our preferences. This place is warm and inviting. I love that there's two levels downstairs can be a bit hectic and packed during prime hours but there is an upstairs bar as well with additional seating but check with staff before sitting. Happy hour has tons of delicious bites to eat and try. I'm a sucker for Mediterranean/Spanish food so this place was my jam. Also not pictured were the mushrooms and flatbread. If I could give zero stars I would. They mislead customers. Their happy hour is not as advertised. The "speciality cocktails for $7" is only one happy hour drink not the menu listed "speciality cocktails." This was extremely misleading. When we first sat down, the customers next to us were upset because they were charged normal prices not the "happy hour." We didn't think much of it until our bill came and we had the same confusion. I visited the restaurant for the first time as a party of five-we were greeted immediately and shown to our table. The restaurant is cute there's a bar in the front and some seats in the back and there's an upstairs as well I don't know what's upstairs and they had some outdoor seating on the side of the restaurant too. We were given the normal menu as well as the menu with the daily specials. We ordered that drinks and most people enjoyed theirs. I had an espresso martini and I thought it was very strong (which is a good thing). We ordered tapas and shareables for the table. The croquettes, lamb meatballs and crab eggrolls, couscous and brussels sprouts and it was all a hit! We were all familiar with couscous but we've never had it prepared the way Octobar makes it which was with tomatoes and onions in it. Everyone raved about the brussels sprouts they had pieces of ham in it so they were quite yummy. I had potato crusted salmon for my entree and I was disappointed. The potatoes were overcooked, the salmon was undercooked and it all needed salt . Also, the salmon was undercooked. I know several years ago it became very popular to start asking people how they want their fish cooked like they do for red meat. First, I was not asked tonight and because I'm not really used to being asked that anyway I didn't think to even bring it up so I assumed it would be cooked the way I grew up ordering seafood when I went out- it would be cooked all the way through though it was not. It was well done on the ends and medium in the middle and I was highly disappointed so I couldn't finish it. read more
