Food was BOMB!!!! Oh my goodness. Portions were hefty. I got two quarter chickens (one white meat, one dark meat). The white meat had more meat but the chicken was a little dry. The dark meat was a little smaller (not noticeable) but the flavor was way better and it was moist from all the juice. The sides were so delicious- the plantains and yuca fries were everything! I'm not a fan of brussels sprouts because they can easily burn but the ones here were perfection. The green (spicy) sauce was excellent and the perfect amount of spice. The mild sauce was great with the fries. Service was exceptional- was greeted warmly when I walked in and was given explanation of ordering. Somebody recommended this spot to us, so we decided to give it a try. This is a busy part with paid parking on the Main Street. $0.50 per hour, but there is free parking in the back streets. ChickenRico is also busy, people come and go, some dine in others take out. When you walk in you place your order where the chicken is, not at the cash register. We made that mistake, and had to go to the end of the line that had formed in the mean while. There was no signage, so for people out of town like us easily make that mistake. I went for the 1/2 chicken with 2 sides, steak fries and green beens. The chicken is of great flavor, but not as juicy as I had in another place recently. The green beens are also tasty and great, as well as the steak fries, and the potions are generous. The plantains were sweet and caramelized which was a good balance to the well seasoned (salt forward) chicken and beef in the lomo saltado. Chicken Rico is one of the first places my husband and I have come back multiple times after moving to Baltimore. Moving from the west coast that didn't have a ton of Peruvian chicken options, we were excited to be able to get some more readily when we were back on the east coast. Luckily, Chicken Rico is less than half a mile away from us. We have gone there numerous times, and each time it has been fantastic. We normally get the full chicken meal with fries and potato salad as well as the chicken sub. My husband can literally house almost 3/4th of that chicken. It has always been perfectly cooked. Not dry and well seasoned. The yellow sauce is creamy and delicious, the green sauce gives it a little bit of a kick. I weirdly love that chicken sub. The warm chicken with the cold tomatoes and mayo, just really hits the spot. And we both fight over the potato salad. It's our favorite side. It's located in a pretty busy area. We normally just walk over and get take out. The guys behind the counter are always super friendly and nice. We put in an order online and pick it up. I've been coming here for over 10 years I absolutely love the food but the night shift customer service is terrible you for the last 3 weeks 1-2 a week I try to come and get dinner before 9pm which you guys have posted as your closing time. This review is overdue because we already had Chicken Rico multiple times. We had the one in Dundalk and Highland Town. Both are delicious. I just happen to live closer to this one. The chicken is always seasoned so well to the point that the flavors from the seasoning enters deep into the bone and cartilage. I love eating the cartilage from the ends of the chicken long bones and even that has flavor from the seasoning. The sides are always huge in proportion. Both of the sauces go well with the chicken depending on what flavor you are seeking. The yellow sauce has more of a creamy mayo texture which is good, but if you are in need of spice, the green sauce will do it justice. I would say that it can be a little bit more spicer but I am someone who likes spicy food. We ordered to go and we haven't been in the shop since COVID-19 started and they have plexi glass over the counter and all the staff members are masked and gloved. As we were picking up our food other people in line were getting their orders quickly as well. This is definitely a place to come back to! read more

Everything about the food is great. This Peruvian rotisserie is juicy, tender, flavorful and fresh! Luckily when I went to get the food, a new batch was freshly out from their coal oven and so my chicken had that addictive coal smoke flavor in it. There are 2 sauces which comes at an extra $2 and I think it is worth adding those 2 bucks to your order. They goes so well with the chicken and actually lot if other boring food in the fridge. Once again the food was amazing, I was pleasantly surprised with their potato salad, but I was disappointed I did not get what I ordered. Chicken Rico is a staple for catering at the Hopkins medical campus and now personally, take out during the pandemic. The Peruvian chicken is delicious, and if you love all potato-like items like do, the yucca fries are a must. Also, the fiery green and creamy, dreamy yellow sauce are seriously amazing. If they sold the sauce in a bottle, I would get it. The green sauce isn't that spicy to me (compared to other reviews) but it gives a really great kick. On top of all that deliciousness, the price point is fantastic. For $10-15, me and my boyfriend usually get a box with 1/2 chicken, fried rice, plantains, yucca fries and a drink that very much fills us up (with a little more to save later too). When I say this is one of the top 10 meals of my life, I really mean it! It's an unassuming storefront on Main St. USA. I don't know how safe this area is in general but I've now been twice and haven't felt uncomfortable, both times at night. You walk in and there will likely be a line. Start at the right, put in your order and wait about 3 minutes for everything to be ready. I took a friend the 2nd time around and we got the amazing family deal of a whole chicken, two large sides and three cans of soda for only $16.99. The chicken is the superstar here. You could probably stand one up on it's back legs and trump it out in front of the paparazzi. I've never had chicken this good in my life, at least a whole chicken. The "exotic" rub and marinade process is different for US palates but is still succulent and as moist as can be. The Colonel must have chicken-envy when walking into a place like this, you don't need to deep fry chicken to make it this delish. It's cooked over hot coals right in front of your eyes, the sides are ala carte so you can pick and choose what you want after looking at them. I'm still upset I haven't tried the plaintains, the beans and rice are that good where I just haven't had the room when eating to add a 3rd side to what I was getting. I've never had Latin rice with egg in it, like you usually get in Asian fried rices....that's a great touch. Forget the chains in Inner Harbor, make the 3-mile trek out to the eastern Bal'More suburbs to this hidden gem if you're into "ethnic" foods as much as I am and finding one of the best meals you can ever devour. read more

I had never tried Chicken Rico before but I could not have been happier that I did. The food was absolutely delicious. When the food was delivered it was still hot which is a huge plus for me and delivered in recyclable containers! I got the black beans, plantains, and the fried rice and dark meat. I know they only give you two sides but PLEASE get all three the plantain were the sweetest plantains I've ever had in Baltimore. This review is for delivery only as I've never been to the actual restaurant. I've ordered from here once through an online delivery platform and didn't have any issues. However, when I actually made the mistake of speaking to one of the employees at this restaurant on the phone, I knew that I will not be ordering from there ever again. I feel bad giving such a low rating for a place that has decent food, but I just can't make myself eat at or recommend an establishment that does not care about its customers and clearly does not reinforce good customer service on its employees. I had no idea what Peruvian chicken entailed, so I had no expectations when I came here. Chicken Rico schooled me. It's good coming here in groups, since you get the best deals. For example, if you get the Family Special #2, you can feed six people -- two whole chickens, four sides, and six cans of soda -- for $32.99. Forget grocery store rotisserie chicken. That's less than $6/person! Anyways, the chicken is indeed very special. It's juicy and tender, and the spices make it taste all the better. Mix the green cilantro sauce in, and you've got a perfect concoction of goodness that'll certainly excite your taste buds. For sides, definitely get the plantain. It's fantastic. As long as you get that, it doesn't matter what else you get. The rice is decent, the lucca is interesting, and the fries are alright. Oh and by the way, check our their mango and pineapple nectar drinks if you get soda from them. It's good to try something different from time to time.
