It's been years since I've had some good homestyle Cuban food. Visited on my last night in town. It was a really refreshing meal. I love a good grilled chicken breast. It was very flavorful with the citrus notes. I substituted the plantains for yucca, I'm a sucker for yucca. This meal was quite large and gave me plenty of leftovers for lunch the next day. My wife and I had a very enjoyable experience at Sabor de Cuba. The service was one of the highlights of our visit. Our server was attentive throughout the meal, and other staff members also checked in regularly to make sure we had everything we needed. We started with the Fried Yuca with mojo sauce, which was cooked very well - crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The accompanying dipping sauce wasn't really to our taste, as it appeared to be oil-based, but that's more of a personal preference than a criticism of the dish itself. For our entrée, we ordered the Seafood Paella with tostones for two. The quality of the seafood was good, and the dish was flavorful overall. My only criticism is that the paella seemed a bit heavy on the rice compared to the amount of seafood and protein. There was certainly plenty of food to share, but I would have preferred a slightly better balance between the rice and seafood. The atmosphere was also enjoyable. We visited around 5 PM and were seated in the front corner of the restaurant by the windows. The ambiance was relaxed and comfortable, while still feeling lively enough to create a nice dining experience. Background Latin music played throughout our meal, which complemented the restaurant's vibe without being overwhelming. Went on a beautiful sunny day with a couple friends. Ordered a sangria pitcher to share and a few entrees. The paella was a big portion and probably the best thing we ordered. The ropa vieja and vaca frita were fine but tasted a bit dry and tough. The service was slow. I have been craving Cuban food for a while. Who knew that in quaint downtown Frederick there was a authentic Cuban restaurant?? I come to Frederick fairly regularly as a bottle club member at Tenth Ward and Sabor De Cuba is right down the street! I was looking for a lunch option nearby and found this place. My favorite dish is masitas de puerco. The tender, marinated fried pork and onions do something to my soul! They do have it on the menu but I opted for something lighter in the middle of my long day. I ordered the papa rellena appetizer and a Cuban sandwich. The papa was pricey. At my favorite cafecito in my hometown in California, I can get 3 for the price I paid here but it was absolutely delicious. Not for nothing the sauce they served it with was good too and I'm not a condiment kinda girl. The Cuban was perfect too. Authentic bread, tasty innards, and a good portion. Just passing thru town and I noticed a Cuban restaurant. I took a peek inside, seems like a nice cozy spot so I came the next day for dinner. The restaurant is empty and we have the place to ourselves. The menu has lots of great Cuban staples. I started with the Bistec De Palomilla (Cuban Grilled Steak) and ordered a glass of wine to get the dinner party started. My meal came out pretty quickly. What was a little disappointing was there was more vegetables than meat. It was just an average meal, nothing too exciting. I'm ready to pack it in but waitress mentioned they have a homemade Tres Leche dessert that I must try. I ordered the dessert. Again, just average in my personal opinion. Bread was terrible, wet with cooking oil and cold on the inside. The carnitas was decent but the ham was off. The pickle and mustard didn't pull the sandwich together like it should have. It's just not a quality ingredient sandwich. It all tasted old. I've never had bad fried yuca. The yuca was off too. We arrived at Sabor de Cuba with a large group and a dog but they were able to accommodate us for outside seating. We were also happy to see that they were able to meet vegetarian and vegan options for friends we were dining with. I tried the camarones enchiladas with fried plantains, rice and beans. My husband tried the cubano sandwich and my son had the picadillo meal with, rice and yuca. Overall I think we all enjoyed our meals, which showcased a different flavor profile in each. This place is a downtown Frederick treasure! The atmosphere is inviting and the customer service is always great! Servers come around constantly to check in and offer refills. The food here is always amazing!! You have to start with the sizzling shrimp - if anything, ask for more bread! It is such a mouth-watering dish to look at and even better to eat!! I ordered the Bistec de Palomilla which was very tasty and filling. My friend ordered the Ropa Vieja which she also enjoyed. The serving sizes are great - I had enough for the next day. First off, I have been to South Beach and had the pleasure of eating at a traditional Cuban restaurant. Sabor De Cuba is phenomenal and it was very apparent from the very first dish that I had found my new favorite go to restaurant. The atmosphere screams Havana and the service was top notch. The appetizer was sizzling shrimp with avocado along with a salsa/chimi mixture. Amazing! I had the flank steak with grilled onions, black beans, white rice and plantains. My girlfriend had the same but with pork. The food was very hot and seasoned perfectly. And, very little wait time. The food was prepared perfectly and if you are in a hurry and want a great Cuban meal, this is where you need to go! A good balance of sweetness, coffee, and cinnamon. Food was good. The chimichurri steak was our favorite, though that was a special. It came on a sizzling plate and was mouthwateringly good! On a recent date night in the town of Frederick, we were excited to try one of their many restaurants. Our show was at the Weinberg Center for the Arts so we strolled down Patrick Street to find a cute bar. We had a choice between Italian or Cuban. We went with Cuban based on the many 4-5 stars. The bar was super cute, about 8 seats. Our server was new but he did try. He didn't know much about the food and also didn't know much about the wines. He did make a delicious Mojito. Hubby enjoyed his Cuban sandwich but we thought weird that it didn't come with a side, not a chip or a salad. That sandwich was $12. I ordered what I thought was yucca chips but instead the server said it was the tostones($5). They reminded me of bland potato cakes. Not something I would order again. read more

Great service and excellent food! The shrimp was the best I've had in a long time--jumbo-sized, perfectly cooked, and full of amazing flavor. The Cuban sandwich was also very good, as expected, but the portion was so large that I had to take the rest to go. The Caipirinha was refreshing and pleasantly strong. In Frederick and what some Cuban food? This is the place to go. The host tries to sit you right away but sometimes it can get very busy and you must wait outside. Luckily there are plenty of shops around. The sopa de pollo has a great cooked-at-home flavor. I like to get it as appetizer to share with family. It's a decent portion, good to share with two or three people. The tostones rellenos are delicious too. The ropa vieja was a bit salty for me but with a nice drink, it's fine. Masitas de puerto are my go-to dish. Lively music is always playing and at the end-left of the restaurant you can find more privacy, if needed. We went to this low key spot after a local race. My cousin in law comes here regularly and highly recommended it. We had a variety of dishes all came with rice, beans and plantanos. The variation is in the style of meat and how it's cooked. The empanadas were amazing. I really enjoyed the outer layer and the savoriness of the inside. I forgot to take pictures of our meals. A lot of the restaurants in the Market Hall area of Frederick were packed and some required a 2 hour wait for our group size. I ordered the seafood paella (which is recommended for 2 people) and it comes with mussels, shrimp, scallops, red snapper and lots of rice/veggies. I also ordered the spicy margarita with habanero. The drink was good but not that spicy. The seafood paella was more than enough food for 2 people and we ended up taking leftovers. I really enjoyed the paella as it was filling and flavorful. When living in DC, it's quite to find authentic Cuban food and this place did pretty well in serving up some yummy food. We ordered the vaca frita and it was delicious. We love Cuban food, so I was super excited to try and compare to other places we've been to. We ordered margaritas (Cadillac style). They were so good! We also had mojitos afterwards, which I wasn't a fan of. Our server was nice and very attentive. We ordered an appetizer and entree to share. We opted for a papa rellena, which we enjoyed. I would've preferred a different type of sauce with it, but it was good. We then had the bistec de palomilla....the meat was so juicy and tender. The onions added to the flavor.
