    Cuban espresso

I just wanted a simple, non-complicated, non-brunch, non-pretentious, breakfast in the neighborhood while out running errands and slightly after standard breakfast hours. This place was perfect. It's a simple little Cuban cafe that's deceptively spacious. There's ample seating for a couple groups and nice window counter space for people watching--my favorite activity. A nice espresso and a large window onto a busy street are the little things that make my days complete. The plates are all made to order and pretty quickly ensuring that you get a hot meal. I'm sure that I'll pass back by this place again for a midday stop.

Interesting new addition to Columbia Heights. Was very excited to have a Cuban Cafe so close to my house, but there was a disappointing lack of actual Cuban treats. I opted for a Cuban sandwich with fries, a coffee, and an order of Cuban tostones. The service was super friendly, I would go back for that alone. I grabbed food to go since I live right down the street so I was a bit disappointed when I got home to find that the the tostones were so overcooked to the point of being inedible (I was worried I might break a tooth). The fries that came with the Cuban sandwich were also over cooked and I ended up throwing them away. The Cuban sandwich was pretty tasty but also didn't blow me away. I will say the prices are very reasonable and the service was great so I'm hoping these are just some growing pains!

I have been to Cuban Espresso once for food and 3 or 4 times for coffee- the aforementioned Cuban espresso is a decadent caffeine boost and the cuban sandwich is quite good, especially for the price. Most memorable part of the experience was striking up a conversation with the espresso operator, who was eager to talk about what went into the coffee. A very pleasant and informative chat. The interior is austere and geared for takeout, but the few tables and chairs are comfortable and rarely occupied. If I lived closer I would be a regular for the breakfast platters, which look wonderful. I hope they can make it work in a building that has seen a lot of turnover the last few years.

    Cuban espresso, so good.

Amazing food, coffees and service. This is a really quick and clean spot, and it's conveniently located. Sandwiches are bomb too. Definitely a must-go if you're on the way to work or the metro stop.

    Perfect shot.

Cuban espresso took me back to miami. Amazing. good tunes, staff was pleasant and quick.

    Cuban Espresso and Classic Espresso

Stopped by Cuban Espresso today on our way to grab lunch. We were greeted by the nicest man ever with the biggest and warmest smile. His customer service was exceptional! We ordered a classic espresso and a Cuban espresso. The espressos are AMAZING. Some of the best I have ever had. The Cuban Espresso is to die for, I will be thinking about it for a while.

    Cortadito- Delicious!!

This coffee shop is by far the best Cuban coffee shop in the Washington DC area! The coffee is delicious, authentic Cuban coffee, the service is excellent, especially by the owner owners Carlos & Maria. The food is also excellent, inexpensive, authentic Cuban cuisine. Street parking is available, free for two hours, and the hours of operation are pretty much all day and night. Give this place a try you will love it!

Food was good, coffee was good, but it's not "real " Cuban. It's more of a mix of a few Latin countries.

The colada and breakfast quesadilla were phenomenal. Highly recommend. Looking to try the Cuban quesadilla next.

Famous Chef Thomas Reviews: Dolcezza (Washington, DC)…read more The Famous Chef Thomas visited Dolcezza in Washington, DC, expecting a proper café experience, especially at the prices being charged. When a place is asking $4 to $7 for tea or a latte, there is an obligation to deliver something above the level of a bargain counter operation. Instead, the Famous Chef Thomas was handed a tea cup with the tea bag resting on top, wasting valuable brewing time and shifting the work onto the customer like some cheap do-it-yourself setup. That may be understandable at McDonald's for $1.79, but at Dolcezza it is unacceptable. At these prices, the worker should have already put the tea bag in the cup, added the honey, and served a finished product with care. Do not charge premium café prices and then behave like preparation is somehow the customer's responsibility. And to casually tell the customer that the honey is over at the stand only adds insult to laziness. Hospitality is not pointing. Hospitality is serving. What makes it worse is that this place has clearly declined from where it was when it first opened years ago. The standards are slipping, and it shows in more than one way. The table was dirty, and because this visit was early in the morning, that dirt had to be left over from the previous day. That is not a small oversight. That is evidence of poor closeout, poor maintenance, and weak attention to detail. Then came the final insult: too many bugs. The Famous Chef Thomas had to kill them or dodge them just to sit there, which made it impossible to enjoy the experience without feeling like he was in a battle against being bitten. A café cannot expect customers to relax, sip tea, and enjoy themselves while swatting pests away from the table. Dolcezza is charging as if it still deserves a premium reputation, but the service, cleanliness, and overall execution no longer support it. Premium prices require premium standards. The Famous Chef Thomas did not receive them here. The verdict: lazy service, dirty conditions, bugs, and a café experience that has fallen far below its old standard. The Famous Chef Thomas is not impressed
