Interesting new addition to Columbia Heights. Was very excited to have a Cuban Cafe so close to my house, but there was a disappointing lack of actual Cuban treats. I opted for a Cuban sandwich with fries, a coffee, and an order of Cuban tostones. The service was super friendly, I would go back for that alone. I grabbed food to go since I live right down the street so I was a bit disappointed when I got home to find that the the tostones were so overcooked to the point of being inedible (I was worried I might break a tooth). The fries that came with the Cuban sandwich were also over cooked and I ended up throwing them away. The Cuban sandwich was pretty tasty but also didn't blow me away. I will say the prices are very reasonable and the service was great so I'm hoping these are just some growing pains!

I have been to Cuban Espresso once for food and 3 or 4 times for coffee- the aforementioned Cuban espresso is a decadent caffeine boost and the cuban sandwich is quite good, especially for the price. Most memorable part of the experience was striking up a conversation with the espresso operator, who was eager to talk about what went into the coffee. A very pleasant and informative chat. The interior is austere and geared for takeout, but the few tables and chairs are comfortable and rarely occupied. If I lived closer I would be a regular for the breakfast platters, which look wonderful. I hope they can make it work in a building that has seen a lot of turnover the last few years.

    Cuban espresso, so good.

Amazing food, coffees and service. This is a really quick and clean spot, and it's conveniently located. Sandwiches are bomb too. Definitely a must-go if you're on the way to work or the metro stop.

    Perfect shot.

Cuban espresso took me back to miami. Amazing. good tunes, staff was pleasant and quick.

    Cortadito- Delicious!!

This coffee shop is by far the best Cuban coffee shop in the Washington DC area! The coffee is delicious, authentic Cuban coffee, the service is excellent, especially by the owner owners Carlos & Maria. The food is also excellent, inexpensive, authentic Cuban cuisine. Street parking is available, free for two hours, and the hours of operation are pretty much all day and night. Give this place a try you will love it!

    Cuban Espresso and Classic Espresso

Stopped by Cuban Espresso today on our way to grab lunch. We were greeted by the nicest man ever with the biggest and warmest smile. His customer service was exceptional! We ordered a classic espresso and a Cuban espresso. The espressos are AMAZING. Some of the best I have ever had. The Cuban Espresso is to die for, I will be thinking about it for a while.

Food was good, coffee was good, but it's not "real " Cuban. It's more of a mix of a few Latin countries.

But anyways Paella was delicious, the flavor profile was super fun. We got the short rib and seafood, and we all preferred seafood as the short rib was a bit heavy. I did not like the patatas... sauce was good but the potato itself had none of its own seasoning and was tough. Yes crispy but not pillowy inside. The octopus was delicious and super tender. Would come back for seafood paella and charcuterie.

The sauce the shrimp are swimming in was amazing with pieces of garlic and peppers swimming in oil. Sop it up with the bread that comes too. I heard great comments on the octopus. I also really enjoyed the BOQUERONES CON NARANJA because I'd never seen anything like it. Really yummy if you like a salty briny bite. When she first said the name, I actually thought it was a some short of shopping plaza and never would have associated it as a Mexican restaurant. I'm not sure it's history, but seems like a staple in the neighborhood as every time I drive by since that conversation with her, I notice how packed and busy it is. I recommended to my friends who were in town that we check it out and we were able to get seated outside relatively quickly for a Saturday evening. Our table started with their drinks. Half of us got the pina colada and the other half had the margarita swirl. I'd say the pina coloda was pretty good; not too strong and the ones who ordered the margarita seemed to enjoy it. We all had eaten before arriving, so we didn't order too much. They also served complimentary tortilla chips with salsa so that was pretty good and gave us something to nibble on. I ended up getting the shrimp tacos and their tortilla soup. The shrimp tacos were good, but the tortilla soup was the highlight for me. It was very flavorful, and full of vegetables like tomatoes, carrots, and corn. It also had shredded chicken and cheese in it, and was so delicious. I would definitely order it again. Our server was also very friendly and regularly checked in on us. The reason for one star off is just due to the cleanliness of the cups and plates on our table. I noticed food residue still on it, and although I personally didn't use the cup or plate, I didn't care to see it on the table.

The food was amazing! We ordered the octopus off the main menu and 2 items off a June experice menu. The octopus tasted smoked to me. I ordered because based on what I read about the restaurant I felt they would do it well.. and they did! The potatoes needed a touch of salt for us, but we are salt people. The Croquetas were so creamy and delicious with the garlic shrimp. The cream cheese on the toast set off the flavors of the carleized onions and whisky reduction pork. The coup de grâce was the Cheesecake desset. It was warm and a combo of airy and dense. The granny smith apples on the side were tart and pallet clensing. So good! We also received shirtbread cookies and a chocolate cookie thing that were delicious! The prices are on the expensive side, but definitely worth it. Great place for sharung and date night.
